The Age of Hysteria

If you’re between a rock and a hard place, choose the rock…

Pinned down in a hot zone with a woman he’s not even sure he likes, Roque “Rock” Dimas is herded into the fiery center of an extinction-level event where only two choices exist: run for your life, or burrow in to the last place anyone sane would go and confront the enemy directly. The problem is, one man against a multitude of threats just isn’t enough…

Locked down on the outskirts of the emerging Chicago wasteland, a more nefarious conflict is brewing, one between Fire Dimas and a ruthless human trafficker with an axe to grind. In the high-stakes game of kidnappers and assassins, Fire and his brother, Ice, will tear the world apart to get what’s theirs, but will that be enough?

I can see I will be an outlier, but I just could not even finish this book. It starts with new characters (one is related to one in the the first book) before the drone attack and goes on and on with them for quite a while. None of them survived the drone attack so what was the point? It resumes with just evil people and, as it was, I had ended book 1 with lukewarm interest for even starting book 2. It always feel like a failure when I can't complete a book that I started, but life is too short to continue with an unlikable book.

Five Stars

This series is phenomenal! The character development is on par and not just an info dump, but not also drawn out. The story lines all run independent but are slowly coming together. This book picked up right where the first one left off and I’m very glad that it did. I love that we are now adding Rock to the mix, with the story line continuing on the West Coast in addition to Chicago. Fire tracking down his kids had me on the edge of my seat with some turns that I didn’t see coming. I think I said “WHAT” aloud no less than four times.

This fast-paced apocalyptic novel is perfect for anyone who likes future dystopian books that can actually happen. Drones turning against us with an evil AI merging with humans. I would not be surprised to see this in the near future. Although, I hope I don’t!

I give this five stars and I can’t wait to start book 3!

Part 2 continues where Age of Embers left off in the very violent world ripped apart by drones. Ice - Fire's brother (heh!) - is a sicario in a Mexican cartel. He meets a young and very capable lady intent on getting to Chicago to find her niece who was stolen to become a child sex worker, and he agrees to help her get there. Fire has to rescue his kids from the very same human trafficker intent on sending young white girls to Sudan. Roque (Rock for short) the third brother in California finds himself entangled with a hard up actress....and a swarm of deadly drones. Meanwhile, the Silver Queen (Marilyn Monroe super AI) finally merges with a (of course stunningly gorgeous) woman named Marie Antoinnette and commences to raise hell. This was a pretty fast paced, very gritty look at the depths humans can go when they have to. I am looking forward to what's next!

Spoiler alert. No electronics in the bedroom or bath...

Okay. I am now hooked. Book One gave us the synopsis of each character in the book. Book Two introduces to what they can do and what is most important. Family.

One thing I am enjoying is yes, it is good to prep and do all of the right things if an event happens....but it is the people you surround yourself with that will make your life strong.

Such a good read!

I loved this story of three brothers, one believed dead, whose stories we follow. Two of them find each other and I hope we have them all together in the next book.

Oh there are strong women too. There are harrowing situations that will horrifying you.

I will be reading more by this author.

Relatable characters, nice story development, real rather than contrived evil, and stand alone endings rather than abrupt cliffhangers. Thoroughly enjoyed both books, but left with no idea when the next book might come out.

Great reading

This was an excellent book, with a few exceptions; those being too much repetitive dialogue. Some of us have enough retention to remember previously made characters history and comments. Other than that, action enough to satisfy anyone.

Great series

Our group is coming together and I can’t wait for the next book. Terrorism, child sex trafficking, drugs, murderers, the very worst of society is present. Lots of suspense in this book. So glad it’s followed by three more.

Daunting!

An eye for an eye, a child for a child, child trafficking and devastating drones. The hysteria cackles beneath, flows over and around the characters. Their journey has only begun.

Child trafficking, more destructive drones, more building on the characters which is what makes a book. If you hate all the characters you aren’t going to want to read it. On to book 3. I like it when I find them later and can get them all and read them back to back.

What an incredible 2nd installment! I am loving the characters. I really like the way the author transitions from Chicago to California to tell the different characters’ stories.

First of all, thank you Ryan Schow for including me on your list of advanced readers for “Age of Hysteria”. I love this series. I was hoping this book, Age of Hysteria was to be as good as Age of Embers (book 1). It was better. Ryan definitely knows how to capture ones attention and hold onto to it. He drew me into the end of the world like I was actually living it along with all his great characters. Waiting impatiently for the next book in this series.
