You, Me and Italy

Rate this book
Maisie Knight had it all. A gorgeous husband. A successful business. A beautiful home. Until one day, after walking into the storeroom of their shop, she loses it all at once – catching her husband cheating on her with the girl from Checkout 3. So when she wins a holiday to Italy, a week under the Tuscan sun couldn’t come soon enough.

Treating best friends Cheryl and Emma to a girls’ trip, the terracotta-roofed Villa Marisa on a rustic farm awaits them. The fields of golden sunflowers could be the perfect cure for Maisie’s broken heart – and local farmer, suspiciously perfect Gianni, with his thick black hair and twinkling brown eyes, is a welcome distraction from her broken heart.

Mornings waking up to freshly brewed coffee and views of the rolling hills, moped rides with cheeky Italians, and feasts of prosecco and pasta help Maisie forget her troubles. After all her heartache, she’s surprised when she starts opening up to Gianni – she’s even more surprised when the temperature rises and it’s not just the rays of the Italian sunshine…

Maisie could get used to the good life. But just as she’s getting her spark back, disaster strikes. The next thing she knows, her past is catching up with her, reopening old wounds, and Maisie has a life-changing decision to make. Should she say ciao to her summer of love and limoncello?

A laugh-out-loud page turner about second chances, finding happiness when you least expect it and the restorative power of Italian food! Fans of Carole Matthews and Sophie Kinsella will be totally hooked by My Summer of Love and Limoncello.

Sunshine, friendship, and amore!

A delightful story full of fun, flirting, friendship, and food! Sue Roberts is brilliant at bringing the settings of her books to life. Once again I got to take a wonderful vacation to Italy from the comfort of my couch. Sue Roberts really gives you a vacation in a book!

Maisie has really had a string of bad luck. Still grieving the death of her mother she catches her husband in the act of cheating on her. Devastated and licking her wounds Maisie’s luck begins to turn when she wins a trip to Italy. The perfect time for a girls trip Maisie brings her two best friends Cheryl and Emma along for the fun. Italy was gorgeous and bursting with the warm sunshine, fabulous food, and gorgeous men.

This was such an engaging heartwarming story with a generous splash of romance. Maisie, Emma, and Cheryl‘s friendship was wonderful! I love strong female friendships in books and this was one of the best I’ve read. This was a group of ladies you would love to go on vacation to Italy with! Farmer John was a great love interest and I really loved all the... will he? Won’t he? This book was really packed with so many lovable well drawn characters that I am just certain I would know if I saw them walking down the street. Such a comforting story that made me feel warm inside and out.

A lovely story that will make you smile, laugh, and crave Italian food! Recommend!

An absolute warm feel good book which is about love and friendship along with a trip to Tuscany, Italy.

Maisie leaves her cheater husband, works 2 jobs, wins a trip to Tuscany along with 1000£ as spending money. She takes her 2 best friends Emma and Cheryl and the three musketeers find themselves enveloped in the beautiful landscapes of Italy.

Sue Roberts has written this book with a loving hand, dipping her quilt in the inkwell of sunshine and happiness. This was a light easy breezy read which went as most such books go with laughter and romance, good food and great wine.

What captured my heart and imagination were the description of locales and nature. Sue Roberts does love Italy and that comes out so beautifully in this book. Each description was simply gorgeous. It just put Italy on my wishlist of places to go in my lifetime.

Another delightful story from an author I really do enjoy reading.

I felt sorry for Maisie quite early on in the story, when she discovers the truth about her husband,

We then fast forward to her current situation, which leads to another amusing scene early on when Maisie quits one he jobs, in a rather public way.

However her luck is due to change with a competition with for a holiday to Tuscany, Who knew that this would be a life changing holiday for her.

From the moment Maisie and her friends Cheryl and Emma arrive in Italy, I completely fell for this book. The divine food descriptions, the sense of location, the sexy Italian men, its all just fabulous.

This is a story of love, friendship and finding new life opportunities when you least expect them.

What a lovely summery read this is, I would expect to see this on kindles poolside all over the coming months as we move into Summer Holiday season (or even wishful thinking there could be sun season,)

Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

After having read and loved "My very Italian holiday" by Sue Roberts, I was really excited to read her new book "My Summer of Love and Limoncello" and wow oh wow! I loved this book so much! I read it in 3 days and I just couldn't stop reading it! I give this book a 5 stars out of 5 without any hesitation! This book is full of good vibes and good energy! I was so happy for Maisie to win this stay in Tuscany, Italy and that she was able to spend a well deserved vacation there with her two best friends. The book is so well written that I felt myself on vacation, it was like I was also there in Tuscany under the warm sun, enjoying good Italian food and good wine and limoncello. And I enjoyed visiting these nice places with the 3 friends. I also loved the romance going on in this book, such a sweet romance! And there is so much going in this book, you never get bored! That would be so brilliant if Sue Roberts would write a sequel to this book! I so want to be back in Tuscany with Maisie and Gianni! :-D

*Book provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review*

Maisie had it all: a great job, a loving husband, a house etc. But then she walks in on her husband cheating. Her life changes from one second to the other. Luckily she wins a holiday to Tuscany and takes her two best friends there as well.

The surroundings are great for her and she gets distracted. Also by a local farmer called Gianni. Can her broken heart be fixed?!

Even though Maisie went through a lot in this book and her story was full of ups and downs, it kind of seemed too good to be true at times. The book is very predictable, but still very enjoyable.

My favourite thing about this book was definitely the setting. I love Tuscany. I have been there so many times and I knew lots of the places. It was like going home. The atmosphere really came through and I really want to go back there now.

A romantic, warm and funny story, with the perfect setting and a fantastic holiday read.

You, me and Italy takes its readers to the beautiful Tuscany valleys and I was just in love with the setting of the book.

Maisie has a good life right until she walks into her husband cheating on her. Luckily she wins a trip to Italy and embarks on this beautiful vacation with her two best friends Emma and Cheryl.

I liked how Maisie discovers the beauty of life and moves on from the trauma of her marriage, Gianni and her vibed great and I loved seeing their interactions together. This was a feel good book with all the elements of life, friendship, discovering yourself and ofcourse a dash of romance.

Reading My Summer of Love and Limoncello is a lot like listening to your most garrulous girlfriend describe her trip to Tuscany. She tells you about every single meal she and her friends ate, what they saw at the different museums all the while mixing it with random thoughts of her cheating ex-husband that you wished she'd gotten over by now because, hello, he cheated. When she says that when they wanted a nibble, they picked olives from the trees and you raise an eyebrow waiting for the punchline that never comes.

The good stuff, the romance, is kind of swept aside until later, much later, when she says her love interest called her "bello" and "bellissimo" and you want to ask if he's really Italian...or if he thought she might be a man, because, you know, that would be kind of funny.

So I was a little disappointed with My Summer of Love and Limoncello. I think my funny bone is intact, but I didn't laugh. I quirked a smile a time or two.

This is definitely for readers who want to escape and armchair travel to Tuscany. Don't expect too much of the characters or the plot. Don't think too much. Just imagine eating some of the luscious dishes and then having a shot of limoncello. You'll be happy.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

You know the feeling when you are tired of the winter and long for the sun? Although we had a lovely week here as well you know it won’t last and you are counting the days.

If a holiday is not really on the horizon yet, you can certainly escape by reading this story. The author takes us to sunny and hot Tuscany where she regales us with a bit of Italian culture and history. But don’t worry if that is not quite your cup of tea. There is plenty more to enjoy here. If you are more into a love story, then this will be your kind of book.

This book should come with a warning though. Make sure you have a snack handy, because the description of the dishes is simply mouthwatering. Foodies will love this.

The way this author outlines the details is divine. You are not reading about Tuscany. You ARE in Tuscany. You can almost feel the sun, see the views, smell the food.

After reading this story, it felt as if I had been on a mini break and I could not agree more with the author : sunshine does solve a lot of problems.

I give the ‘touroperator’ a 5 star rating.

Thank you, Sue Roberts, Bookouture and Netgalley.

What a delightful read! Maisie wins a holiday following a break-up from her husband so takes her 2 friends Emma and Cheryl to the very picturesque sounding Villa Marisa in Tuscany.

The friendship group of Maisie, Emma and Cheryl was brilliant - this trio were firm friends and that came across despite being miles apart at times.

Naturally, given the title has 'love' in it, there are a few very hunky Italian men that catch Maisie's eye, farmer Gianni seems to be the easy frontrunner. His family own the holiday apartments Maisie is staying in so she spends time with him frequently. I was worried their relationship lacked depth but as the story wound on, it was clear Gianni had genuine feelings for Maisie and vice versa.

Full of warmth, humour and culture with snippets of Italian history when we as readers are treated to visits to Florence and Siena amongst other places.

An enjoyable storyline that didn't rush to a conclusion - with the descriptions of all things Italian I was happy to immerse myself in this book!

My many thanks to Bookouture via NetGalley for providing me with this advanced reading copy in exchange for an honest review.

Meet loveable Maisie Knight who is down on her lucky. Maisie’s currently going through a divorce after finding her husband and business partner, having sex with a newer, younger employee, in between the blow up Santa’s.

She is juggling two jobs to make ends meet, working in the supermarket and in a sandwich shop. Until one day she has enough, tells the sandwich company where to stick their job, and tells a rude customer exactly what she thinks of them. Walking out on the job, just adds further stress and troubles to her already mountain high stack.

But returning home that night. Maisie finds a letter declaring that she has won a competition in a magazine for a weeks stay in Tuscany, and she can take someone with her. Not only that but the competition is also throwing in £1,000 spending money.

Torn between asking either if her two best friends to go with her. Maisie decides to contact the villa people directly and as it is a four bedroomed villa they are kind enough to let the other person go for free two. Not only that but one of her best friends has loads of free airline points, which means they get to fly for free also. What could be better for a broken heart then a week in the Tuscan sun with your best friends.

But could their be love in store for Maisie with a hunky Italian man called Gianni? And will the holiday be exactly what Maisie needs to fix her broken heart?

Get lost in this romantic, feel good, holiday read. That will make you long for your own Tuscan adventure.

This book definitely makes you want to spend your next vacation in Tuscany. With the elaborate accounts of Maisies visits to Siena, Pisa and Florence, the book could almost serve as a travel guide. And food guide as well, since plenty of Italian dishes are described in detail. This creates a great atmosphere of a lavish Italian summer.

Unfortunately, for me it also made the story feel rather factual instead of emotional, with Sue Roberts enumerating Maisies every move, thought, place she goes, thing she eats and people she sees. For me it was a tad overdone.
Also, it was a bit too smooth sailing for Maisie as well as her friends when everything fell into place so perfectly. I was missing a bit of an edge, a realistic touch (and the accident is not what I mean here).

With that being said, I still enjoyed reading about Maisies holiday under the beautiful Tuscan sun!

Poor Maisie hasn’t had a good couple of years, her doctor thinks she’s depressed and quite honestly after losing her mum, her cheating husband and her home she needs some luck.
She ends up in Tuscany with her two best friends and together they find out a little more about themselves and the lives they lead. I absolutely loved the story sometimes though I think the author over explained things but it didn’t stop the overall captivating and believable description of living in Tuscany. I want to visit now! This is for all who love, romance, food and a good book.

Sue Roberts transported me back to Tuscany in this heart warming tale of friendship, love and a young, single again woman who rose above the ashes, took a chance and followed her heart!

With Sue's writing style I could smell, taste and see every bit of Italy I had the privilege to visit, all over again. This is a clean romance and I loved every page of this book to the very end! I read this one in record time for me and I can't thank Sue enough for this sweet piece of literature!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

These are the adventures of Maisie, Cheryl and Emma, who get to spend a lovely holiday in Tuscany, courtesy of Maisie, who is in dire need of a change of scenery. These three girls are very different but they complement each other really well. If you don't get a sudden craving for Italian food after reading this book, you are a stronger person than me! I also wanted to try limoncello :)

The descriptions of the countryside and the food are eloquent and the story of Maisie and her friends is very relatable. I thought this book might be a bit of a standard chick lit but it isn't really. It is down-to-earth and modern and even though there are some romantic scenes, that isn't the focus of the book. It is more about figuring out what you want in life and going for it, helped along the way by friends and family.

A really relaxing, enjoyable read.

4.5 stars from me.

When Maisie discovers her husband cheating on her at work her life falls apart, but then things look up when she wins a holiday staying in a villa on a farm in Tuscany. Taking her two friends Emma and Cheryl with her they set out for a summer of fun under the Tuscany sun...... and throw the gorgeous Gianni into the mix and who knows what could happen!

A lovely summer read, the descriptions of the beautiful Tuscan landscape really transport you there and with plenty of fun and flirting going on the book flows really well. Perfect light beach read.

Alcoholics go to Italy

They had shots of lemoncello, a bottle of wine, more sparkling wine and two beers BEFORE lunch. Every day was full of drinking and describing food ad nauseum. There wasn't much plot. The only tension was the main character trying to make up her mind. Maybe if she wasn't drunk it would be easier . The hero was one dimensional, gorgeous, perfect. And she didn't do her research. She had them snacking on olives right off the tree. Um you can't eat unprocessed olives raw ones are ghastly. Also not funny in the least. Tedious read.

I was expecting this to be a light read but this fell so much lower than my expectations. It was nothing more than a potter following someone’s holiday in Tuscany and a summer romance. There was absolutely no story to it whatsoever. Far too superficial for me. I shall be returning for a refund. The narrator did do a good job but with a poor book even the narrator couldn’t make this more interesting! Sorry just not for me.

2 ⭐️⭐️stars - rough to get through as the plot has a lot of confusing holes, but also wraps up extremely quickly. First 100 pages of the book is her depressed about her ex husband….the food and the location was great to read though.

DNF.

Had to push to get to page 132 (of 284) but the ridiculousness became too much. I can suspend belief for a novel fairly well but this was beyond.

I read this book based on reviews here, thinking even if it was formulaic and predictable (it is), the parts describing the Italian food and countryside would be so lush and delightful it'd be some easy armchair travel, like what others mentioned. It isn't. There's not enough of that or maybe enough that isn't tainted by the absurd, to keep my eyerolls at bay.

If you want an easy summer read where reality is suspended and the entire world lines up to focus on the main character as if they've been waiting for her to arrive in their lives to make them exist, this book is for you. There's not enough *actual* Italy in this book to help me push through to the profoundly predictable end (yes, I've been to Italy and yes, I checked the ending before sending this one back out into the world).

I really wanted to love this book, but I'm truly not into descriptive narratives and I had no idea this book would be so discriptive of scenery, food, wine, ambiance, streets, etc. Nothing about this book excited me or kept me looking forward to reading more. On the contrary, I wanted to finish it as quickly as possible. I felt 0 connection to the characters, was very indifferent towards the love story that was developing, and often felt the storyline was superficial. The prologue and epilogue were the most interesting. 🙃 Everything in between was meh.

One thing good though is that it motivated me a little bit more to go to Italy.

I wouldn't say it's a bad book and wouldn't recommend it because it was nicely written and does portray Italy beautifully, also, because everyone's taste is so different, but it simply wasn't for me. 😕

My Summer of Love and Limoncello is the ultimate feel good story. It is a light and airy read making it the perfect palette cleanser. It is impossible not to have dreams of first loves and scrumptious Italian dishes while reading. Sue Roberts’ writing is atmospheric and charming. Her pages are filled with antipasto, chianti and sweet and creamy tiramisu. It is a love story of first glances, accidental touches and passionate kisses that linger in the doorway. It is impossible to feel anything other than love for the characters in this story. This book would be a lovely read lounging poolside or on a sandy beach. If warm weather is not in the cards anytime soon, cozy up by a fire and devour this Italian delight. You will be under the Tuscan sun in no time.

This is a sweet story of love in Tuscany. Filled with loads of details of the scenery, food, wine, and Italian hunks, it will make you want to go over for a holiday yourself. especially if you're single. ;)

If you're not a fan of detail, you probably won't enjoy it a whole lot and find yourself skipping to the romantic parts, which can be a bit sparse and feel a bit more matter-of-fact than moments that fully engage the senses. Nevertheless, it's very readable, and a great beach read.

🗺 You, Me and Italy by Sue Roberts 🗺

At first I struggled to get into the book, I’d never read anything by Sue Roberts and it was completely different to what I was used to. The reason I had bought this book was because I’d love to go to Italy one day and experience the rich culture. While this novel captured the Italian spirit and was good at describing the scenery, I felt like it was just missing something. The love interest kind of swapped between two people which was a bit confusing, but in the end it was only one. In my opinion, Maisie (the main character) was fairly boring and I would’ve preferred someone who was happy to try new things willingly. Overall, this was an interesting book but it did take some effort to get into.

The joke’s on me! Romantic comedy, no, I found nothing even remotely funny in this book. It was like watching someone’s boring life take place. So mundane, simple. The only enjoyable part of this book is that it takes place in Tuscany, an area that I have been to a few times and love. There are so many other romantic comedy books that are actually funny, do yourself a favor and skip this one.
