Michael Farr (born 1953 in Paris) is a former British journalist and an expert regarding the comic series The Adventures of Tintin and its creator, Hergé. He has written several books on the subject, as well as translating several others into English.

Tintin & Co är en underhållande och lättillgänglig bok som ger en intressant bakgrund till persongalleriet i Hergés klassiska serie Tintin. Författaren Michael Farr lyckas visa hur seriens tydliga stil och sammanhållning inte kom till direkt, utan snarare genom improvisation och osäkerhet från Hergés sida under de tidiga åren. Det är fascinerande att se hur 1900-talets stora frågor reflekteras i serien, ofta på ett ytligt men tillgängligt sätt – kanske en nyckel till varför Tintin förblir relevant än idag, även om vissa delar har åldrats.

För en nybörjare inom Tintin-universumet, som jag själv, är boken en bra introduktion med gott om exempel och historisk kontext. Däremot kan Tintin-entusiaster nog tycka att den är lite ytlig, och jag hade gärna sett att Farr gått djupare i sina analyser. Det finns intressanta spår – som hur Hergé skildrar kvinnor eller vilken inverkan serierna haft på läsarnas världsbild – som hade kunnat få mer utrymme. Trots det är Tintin & Co ett trevligt tillskott till Tintin-litteraturen och en okej startpunkt för den som vill lära sig mer om figurerna bakom albumen.

Solo para los muy tintinófilos. Reflexiones sobre los personajes más recurrentes de Hergé dentro de las aventuras de Tintín. Aunque tiene alguna curiosidad sobre las bases de inspiración que empleó Hergé a la hora de crearlos, el autor usa excesiva complacencia a la hora de describirlos y mostrar sus cualidades.
Un libro que te puedes ahorrar si no eres muy muy fan y que adquirí en su día en una librería de saldo.

This is good, but Farr's other book on Tintin, Tintin: The Complete Companion is better.

The text in these character sketches often devolves into Farr simply describing the comic, which seems unnecessary. If one wants to know what happens in the comic, one can read them. Farr is at his best when he describes the inspirations behind the characters, particularly Chang, and the process by which Herge arrived at details of their character.

A lot of the more interesting facts are repeated from the Complete Companion, but there are enough new details to make this worthwhile for a real Tintin fan.

W. Müller ja Roberto Rastapopoulos. Palvelusväkeä, kuten Nestoria ja Irmaa, ei käsitellä lainkaan, vaikka he esiintyvät monessa kirjassa, joskaan eivät seikkailujen kannalta kovin merkittävissä rooleissa.

Never having experienced Tintin until the 1980's, this wonderful book by a "Leading British Tintinologist" is really cool! Seeing the history behind this boy adventurer is fascinating and an excellent read.
Recommended for all comic history devotees as well as those who enjoyed the Tintin movie (of which I am one).

I'm a huge Tintin fan, so any books that provide in-depth character studies of Herge's greatest creation are always interesting to me. This provides a pretty good summary of the people in the Tintin stories.

Behind the scenes of the comics. All kinds of information on the people Herge got inspiration from for his characters. The most interesting one I learned about was his best friend, Chang. A Chinese, just like Tintin's best friend.

Erittäin mielenkiintoinen kirja Tintin ystäville... Kirja esittelee päähenkilöiden tarinaa ja "tosielämän" henkilöitä mistä Herge sai inspiraatiota piirroshahmoihin.
Kirja valottaa myös hieman Hergen yksityiselämän verhoa.

Sejarah penciptaan Tintin dkk, karakter tokoh, dan sumber ide para karakter. Chang, sohibnya Tintin sendiri ternyata benar-benar ada, teman baik Herge yang bernama sama pula.
