She let him get away

SWAT werewolf Rachel Bennett is hounded by nightmares after a vicious attack left her with PTSD. Not knowing who or what she can trust anymore, she's relieved to be assigned to a high-profile protective detail. Diving into work might be the distraction she needs, until she notices the mysterious hunk who seems to follow her wherever she goes—and recognizes him.

Now he needs her help...

After he's badly injured, former Navy SEAL Knox Lawson seeks out Rachel when he realizes he's turning into a werewolf. He'd once been part of the group hunting her kind, but he knew he had to quit when he found Rachel in his crosshairs. Now he desperately needs her help.

Rachel isn't sure she trusts Knox, but having him around keeps the nightmares—and the monster creating them—away. Knox might not know much about being a werewolf, but there's no doubt he'll do everything in his power to win her trust and keep her safe.

WOLF REBEL by Paige Tyler is a well-written paranormal romantic suspense novel and is the tenth novel in the Special Wolf Alpha Team series. It worked fine as a standalone novel even though there are some references to events that took place in prior books.

Our initial protagonist, Rachel Bennett, was a police officer in Tennessee when she was badly injured and is now suffering from nightmares and PTSD. After the initial scene, the rest of the story takes place in Texas where she is a member of a Dallas police department SWAT werewolf team. Her team is assigned to protect an Assistant District Attorney and her family during a trial. Former Navy SEAL Knox Lawson seeks help from Rachel when he finds out he is turning into a werewolf.
This is a paranormal take on the enemies to lovers’ scenario that has been popular recently.

However, most of the book is focused around the suspense/thriller side, not the romance side. The story grabbed my attention in the prologue and it never let up. There are a lot of characters in the book, but I did not have any trouble keeping them separate. Rachel is a strong, but seriously troubled, female lead.

Overall, it was action-packed, engaging, suspenseful, sinister and compulsively readable. It has one very steamy scene in it. Additionally, it contains an underlying serious theme around PTSD. I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it to my friends that enjoy this genre.

Many thanks to SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca and Paige Tyler for a digital ARC of this novel via Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way.

Wolf Rebel by Paige Tyler

Romantic paranormal shifter suspense. With a creep factor not usually found in this authors stories.
Gripping, exciting, and satisfying with a bit of sexy play, this couple hurdled the issues to become The One for each other.
An awesome adventure. An easy, fast read.
SWAT seres book 10. Can be read as a standalone but better if at least some of the previous have been read.

A hero:
Excerpt of Knox being a great man. Aaron is an 18 year out boy that tried to step over the friend line with a 16 year old girl. Not a major part of the story, but a good indication of the man Knox is.

“I…um…should get back to the dance,” Aaron stuttered.
“Not until we have a little talk,” Knox said.
The kid swallowed hard. “About what?”
Knox put his hand on the back of the kid’s neck and guided him toward the door. “Consent and what that word means.”
“Okay,” Aaron said nervously.
He steered the kid into the hallway and started back toward the gym. “Then we’ll talk about you finding a girlfriend your own age. And after that, we’ll discuss the way you’re going to treat women from this day forward for the rest of your life.”

Once a hunter, Knox Lawson is critically injured and knows he’s turning into what he hunted…Werewolves.

Rachel Bennett is a member of the Dallas SWAT werewolf team. She knows that Knox was a hunter but he seeks her help when he realizes he is turning into a werewolf. They have both been assigned to guard an Attorney and her family during a trial.

I found Wolf Rebel more a scifi thriller with a dash of steaming hot romance than a scifi romance. The focus is on the action, suspense and thriller aspect which leads to some strong story telling.

In the end, this is an action packed adventure, with a dark and devious antagonist and a sultry attraction that just can’t be denied.

I received this ARC copy of Wolf Rebel from SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca. This is my honest and voluntary review. Wolf Rebel is set for publication November 26, 2019.

It’s been quite a long time since I’ve read a Paige Tyler novel and it’s been even longer since I’ve jumped back into the SWAT world. I don’t know why I derailed for a little bit, but I’m glad to have returned.

I don’t know if it’s my bad memory or something else, but WOLF REBEL felt a lot more action packed and suspenseful than I last remembered the series being. Since this is book ten in the series, it’s possible that Tyler has started to increase the dosage of her writing so that it hits harder and I have to say, I do like the result. This book felt a lot more like a suspense novel rather than the hybrid paranormal, which I really liked. I found the opening chapters to have an especially spooky and suspenseful vibe to it.

We get a lot of backstory for Rachel, which I think made her character really stand out a lot. She ended up being my favorite of the book even though I also liked Knox. I think that if you’re a fan of Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series, then you may enjoy the banter and worldbuilding that Paige Tyler has created here. The only difference is obviously that this one deals with werewolf shifters and Adrian’s series is about vampires. That being said, I look forward to reading more from Paige Tyler.

Rachel Bennett is a SWAT werewolf that is being hounded by nightmares after a vicious attack left her with PTSD. Diving into her new high-profile protection assignment just might be the distraction she needs, until she notices the mysterious hunk who seems to follow her where she goes and she recognizes him as the one she let get away. Knox Lawson is a former Navy SEAL who needs Rachel’s help because he turning into a werewolf. He once hunted their kind, so Rachel isn’t sure she can trust him but having him around keeps the nightmares – and the monster creating them – away.

This is one OMG, Amazing SWAT story that really gets the blood pumping. First the chemistry between Rachel and Knox is off the charts and readers can easily recognize that this couple belongs together but with what’s happening around them, who each of them are and what they are, the relationship is quite complicated with intense emotions flowing from every page right alongside the scorching heat of their desire.

Second, the plot is fast paced, non-stop intense nail biting suspense and excitement that has readers bounding in their seats with adrenaline. Readers can’t take their eyes off Rachel and Knox as her PTSD gets worse and with some super surprising twists her issues become way more complicated adding some fascinating and unique elements to this story. And let’s not forget the SWAT team has a history with Knox that could have this budding relationship ending in disaster and that’s not all folks. That high-profile protection detail has majorly stunning twists that adds lots of danger and thrills to the story as well. SO VERY EXCITING!

With a rapidly growing menagerie of paranormal creatures injecting new life into the SWAT series, ‘Wolf Rebel’ is a fun and campy, enemies-to-lovers with a twist story as Paige Tyler ups the ante here with more than just repetitive storylines of werewolves obsessed with finding their mates. Whether Tyler has consciously done this deliberate kink in the growing narrative arc or not, it’s one I can definitely appreciate—it does keep things fresh if you’re concerned with the onset of reader-boredom that far down this series.

A malicious entity taking the form of an evil clown, a traumatised cop and an ex-SEAL turned ex-hunter turned werewolf (how’s karma for that?) find themselves tangled in a thriller-romantic suspense mix that thankfully doesn’t cut too deep in order to retain its entertainment value. Essentially, ‘Wolf Rebel’ took a direction that I wasn’t expecting but it was easy to hop on for the squinty-eyed ride as shapeshifters, vampires and other paranormal things came together with faint echoes of Stephen King’s IT tied to even fainter echoes of gothic (?) horror.

Rachel Bennett and Knox Lawson might seem an unlikely pair, but Tyler writes them in a way that does work with the multiple obstacles that they both face. Their getting together isn’t as drama-laden as I thought it would be; external circumstances bring them together so that means there isn’t overt conflict for the sake of deliberately tearing a couple apart before some third party intervenes to drive them back together.

Suspension of disbelief is par for the course, but ‘Wolf Rebel’ seems to have regained that panache I thought the series started lacking in the middling few books, with a newly expanded arc that bodes pretty well for future books.

Another fast-paced, action filled installment in the SWAT series. I love this group of wolves, and am glad that they have not worn out their welcome with me. I fell in love with Knox right away. He’s a strong man out of his depth, yet he keeps his sense of humor. I also related well to Rachel, even though she had some strange stuff going on that stretched my believability. I was worried that it would sour me on the story, but happily it didn’t. (I won’t give out spoilers since I hate that.) I can say that it kept me guessing so that I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. I also appreciated the lovely romance that didn’t just rely on “the one”. Instead it blossomed and grew into a sexy romance surrounded by danger and intrigue. In other words – fun.

Super sexy cover…

This was my first read of this series and my only regret is not starting at the beginning. Rachel and Knox were an intriguing pair, on the surface definitely at odds but underneath, so much was percolating…

Their first almost-meeting was a trial by fire and sparked so much of what followed. Together again, secrets held Knox back but their attraction was clear. Trust though was hard and it made for a less than cordial relationship. Sparks, however, were everywhere…

It's hard to label this story. It's definitely paranormal (always my jam!) with strong men and women battling the bad guys and each other… Intolerance, intrigue, and plain old love are all in this romantic mix.

I really did wish I’d started earlier in the series as I quickly became lost in the many characters and the feeling that I was missing 'something' through it all. Thankfully, happily, that means I will have to start back at the beginning! ~Diane, 3.5 stars

Trigger warning: Clowns. I know this is a major trigger for some folks and something you should be aware of right up front, because the clown in this story is the physical manifestation of a literal nightmare which terrorised the heroine and almost kills both her and the hero. If that's too much clowning around for you, give this one a miss.

Horrifying clowns aside, this is a good addition to Paige Tyler's Special Wolf Alpha Team (yes, SWAT). Although it's several books into the series, about all you need to know is that the Dallas SWAT team is made up of werewolves, and they're not the only mythical creatures who are real in this fictional version of our world.

Heroine Rachel was a cop who survived an attack which would have killed her if she hadn't carried the recessive werewolf genes. Joining the Dallas SWAT team, she's carved out a place for herself, but she's haunted by ever more horrifying hallucinations of her attacker.

Knox used to be on the wrong side… until he took a bullet meant for Rachel and discovered he was one of the werewolves he was meant to be hunting. Between this and the Horror Clown thing, you'd think that would be enough obstacles, but no… people are trying to kill them in their day jobs as well, and the action just never lets up.

There's A Lot going on here, maybe a bit too much, as though I'm quite happy to accept werewolves and nightmares come to life in my fictional worlds, I do still expect it all to hang logically together and there was stuff that really didn't. (Why did the monster forget about Hannah, the victim before Rachel? Why skip thousands of viable, closer targets to hunt down Rachel specifically?) Having a contact who could all too conveniently identify the monster and tell them how to kill it took away a lot of the suspense, too, and felt like a deus ex machina. I'd much rather Rachel and Knox had to figure it out themselves.

I do like this series, but the author got a bit too caught up with different plotlines going on here, and we really needed more dramatic tension and less description of every bit of food everyone put in their mouths. Three stars.

At this point in the SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team series, if you haven’t read all the books, it would be impossible to really get the entire experience related to Paige Tyler’s supernatural SWAT team. The books continue to get better and better. More importantly, Paige has added some very unexpected elements to the series that I didn’t see coming but can totally appreciate.

This time, the focus is on one of the newer SWAT team members, Rachel Bennett. She finds out that “The One” just so happens to be someone that is an enemy of the pack named Knox Lawson. He also saved her life. And up until recently, he hunted werewolves. Rachel’s past has been haunting her ever since she became a werewolf. The circumstances behind her transformation are a key focal point in this book and very intriguing. Knox has his own demons from when he was a Navy Seal. Together, they are very complementary to each other although no one will think that they should be. That’s what makes Wolf Rebel so good. Nothing is what it seems. The action really ramps up as Knox and Rachel end up working side by side to protect the DA and her family from some seriously bad guys. Having been along for the entire ride, I was able to easily follow the action and had a good idea of where everything was going except for a new twist that is thrown in. I won’t spoil it but just as in the last book, it brought more things into perspective.

At 10 books and counting, this Special Wolf Alpha Team series still has plenty left to offer. I have yet to be disappointed and continue to be impressed by Paige’s storytelling. Although werewolf tales are far from new, Paige keeps it fresh. I look forward to the next book in the series.

In the previous book, we learned that Rachel is plagued by nightmares that keep her from sleeping. We also learned that she feels guilty that she froze and let a werewolf hunter get away during an ambush of the SWAT compound. That hunter, Knox, then encountered her on her previous assignment in LA. Knox had taken a bullet for her at the compound, which jump-started his becoming a werewolf. He followed Rachel across the country hoping he could learn more about what was happening to him.

Rachel and Knox end up on the same security detail protecting the assistant D.A. prosecuting a crime lord. Rachel is SWAT and Knox is private security. Rachel’s nightmares become worse and more realistic. Knox is the only one who can calm her.

The nightmares become deadly, Rachel has to keep Knox’s past a secret, characters are betrayed, and suspense is high.

Highly recommended.

Prediction: Some day we’re going to find out what and who Kat is, and she’s going to be Connor’s The One.

This is the tenth book in the SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team series by Paige Tyler.

I have not read any other books in this series by Tyler and I to say this works perfectly as a standalone. All the characters that are important get a lot of details and the interactions between them all are so genuine. What a well-written paranormal romantic suspense book! There are a lot of great scenes concerning the struggle of being a wolf and the whole structure of how you become an alpha or werewolf was fascinating. Great backstories here.

The book centers on Rachel Bennett, an alpha female werewolf. She has PTSD, or she thinks she does, and it comes in the form of a scary evil clown who seems to show up at every turn. Now, I don’t have a problem with clowns but this seems like the Joker/Heath Leger version which is a particularly spooky adversary. Not going to mention how this entity crops up but this plot point is just so bang on!

Rachel encounters Knox Lawson, former SEAL and newly minted werewolf. He is just coming into his powers and is at odds with it all. He is drawn to Rachel and he believes that she can help him find his way though the werewolf world. The only problem is… he is a werewolf hunter and that makes him not accepted by the pack.

The trust in this story had to build up over time and I thought it was particularly well-done. I am not a big reader of paranormal romances but I thought this series was well thought out and executed with a ton of grace and feeling.

If you are into paranormal romances, definitely check out this book and series, you won’t be disappointed! Another must read author for my TBR shelf.

I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title.

After Wolf Instinct I was glad I didn't have to wait months and months (like after Wolf Rising) for another of my favorite werewolves hunkies of SWAT. This time it is Rachel who is feeling like she is going crazy after the attack on the compound. Ever since she was nearly shot by one of the hunters, she feels like she is being followed. Just when she thinks she has lost it, it turns out that she actually was being followed.
Knox knew exactly what he turned into when he felt his arms change into claws and his eyes began to glow. Since turning his back on the hunter group, which was after werewolves, how ironic to be turning into one. But as he doesn't know how to control his new temper and how to prevent from shifting in public, he needs help. And since Rachel is the one, who had him at gunpoint, but didn't shoot him, he decides to try to ask her for help. But how to confront her? Well... the creepy stalker technique isn't working very well. But when he hears her screaming at night, he comes to her rescue. Only to find that Rachel was hunted by a nightmare.
Rachel keeps having nightmares, which get creepier and creepier. Mixed with the feeling of being stalked, doesn't do very well with her mood and physique. So, when she meets Knox, she really wants to kill him. Recognizing him as the hunter, who got away certainly doesn't help things. But why does she confide her nightmares to him? And why does it feel good to be around him? Certainly, fate won't be so cruel as to make him her One? Would it? But it's not like she can check it with her pack mates. Because they would kill Knox first and ask questions later...
So, yet another great read, with some suspense and some unexpected twists and turns. Sit back, relax and enjoy SWAT Alpha Team number 10! Awaiting number 11 and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

I liked the suspense side, I was sure there was something fishy with Knox's boss even if I didn't realize the extent of it. I thought the couple worked well together and their story run smoothly -perhaps a bit too much seeing Knox was a former hunter (even for such a short time).
The plot with Rachel's nightmares was interesting, I was thinking more about witches so that was a surprise. Definitively the series took a turn into a more fantasy world.

I've been waiting for this book since I read the last one. I had to know why Rachel let the hunter get away. This one didn't disappoint. Rachel and Knox meeting for the first (actually speaking) time was entertaining. The twist of Rachel's nightmares that we learned about a few books ago caught me off guard and I was amazed by the author's creativity there.

The hunter turning into what he was hunting is poetic. That answered the question I've had for a while. I really liked the DA's little girl and how the author threw in some family issues that had to be worked through. There were a couple of twists that I didn't expect at all and that made the read even better. Overall it was a great addition to this series.

It was a 4/5 for me and I can't wait for more of these Dallas shifters!

This was a great book! I have read the others in the series but this one had a bit more of a thriller feel to it along with romance, action, and some mystery worked in. Rachel and Knox story was really good to read about and I have to say my favorite in the series. If your looking for a really good read this is it, you won’t be disappointed .

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

I am so happy Rachel's story is out! I wondered about her not shooting the hunter in the previous book and how that was going to be explained and the trust issue with the pack.

With a new threat to Rachel and the pack, the story keeps you wondering if the threat is real or imagined! Rachel should also not trust Knox when she finds out that he was with the hunters but until later in the book, you wonder why that is.

Good to see the other members of the pack and can't wait for Diego to find his One, maybe in the next book! I love when we see Kahki, Gage, and others and how they interact with each other.

A side job adds to the drama and action so it was hard to put the book down as there is also something going on and I stayed up way too late to finish reading to the end of the book but it was worth it!

While the author has a great way of explaining why someone turns into a werewolf and the processes of accepting the events. The story its self falls just a little flat an lacks the drive of the others in the series.
The characters are from other books are brought together completing a secondary story line from at least two other books.
The author keeps the story as a stand alone and makes it perfectly easy to read.

There was so much I really enjoyed about this book.

Knox and Rachel weren’t supposed to be together, much less fall in love. He was a former hunter and she was a werewolf. Her ability to forgive him and move past his mistakes was very well written. I really liked how Paige Tyler incorporated this scenario into the book. It really tested the SWAT team and shows how the team was able to overcome their initial feels of Knox.

Rachel deals with PTSD in this book and I feel like it was very well done. The struggles and stigma of talking about your problems were played out through the book. Paige Tyler talked about the hard parts of PTSD but also how someone with it can cope and live with it while helping others with their struggles.

There was an introduction to another type of paranormal in this book beyond just werewolves. It brought an interesting twist in the story that gave it a more fantastical element.

I really like the direction this series is going. It’s evolving into more paranormal and broadening the world beyond Dallas and the SWAT team.

Overall I really, really liked Knox and Rachel’s love story and I can’t wait to see how they pop up in future books. They were absolutely perfect for each other!

What is a former hunter now turned werewolf to do when he's attracted and stalking a female on the Dallas SWAT team? Get himself chased down by Rachel Bennett when he can't stay away. This book is another in Paige's wonderful SWAT series that introduces a new spirit creature and builds the world even bigger. The possibile stories she gave us clues in the story are huge. I just love it.

Rachel Bennett, one of the 2 female werewolves in Dallas' SWAT team, is thinking she's losing her mind. She's seeing shadows and smelling things her teammates aren't. On top of that she can't sleep because her PTSD nightmares have returned in force. She's exhausted. After waking from another terrifying dream she finally makes out a figure in the shadows while cooling off on her balcony one night. She chases him down and find it's the same guy she couldn't take down when the hunters raided the wedding. He's Knox Lawson and he's become one of them from the injuries in the raid. He just can't stay away from her for some reason and he knows she has answers to how to deal with what is happening to him. We the readers know the are the ONE for each other, mates destined to be together, and she agrees to help him out. He explains he fell into being a hunter without understanding the situation and during the raid he took a bullet for her. He never killed a werewolf and tried to get out at every opportunity after he learned the deal with the hunters. He's now working for Direct Action Private Security that gets hired to protect Jennifer Lloyd who is prosecuting Anton Marshall who rebuilt Walter Hardy's crime syndicate that SWAT took down. SWAT is asked to also aid in Lloyd's security by the new Chief.

Oh I loved how these two seek to protect Jennifer Lloyd and her 16 year old daughter Adalynn. Somehow husband Conrad never seems to need protection. As surprise ambushes happen we see how well Rachel and Knox work together and seek what the heck is really going on. Knox also has a calming influence over Rachel's terror when visited by visions of the clown that attacked her, the event that flipped on the change. We get introduced to a new paranormal creature, a nacht-mahr that's tormenting Rachel. It was a feast for my imagination on this adventure reading the crafting of this story. I loved every minutes.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Wolf Rebel is book 10 in Paige Tyler’s SWAT Team series and for those familiar with these books, you will recognise Rachel and her battle with nightmares from a previous mission. Knox and Rachel have history; saving Rachel’s life in L.A. inevitably kicked in his transformation to werewolf and the mysteries surrounding this inexplicable change. After locating Rachel with the intent of getting answers, Knox and Rachel are partnered on a protection detail, but Rachel’s night terrors become exceedingly worse and place her in danger.

Wolf rebel is a fast-paced, action-packed thrill ride from start to finish and everywhere in between. As we’ve come to expect from this series and the author’s imagination, there is no shortage of mystery and suspense, deep seated secrets, and some combustible chemistry that will keep you warm at night. I’m hoping we will eventually solve the mystery of Kat and she will be that special “one” for a sexy wolf.

The tenth book in this wonderful series and a great addition to the story of the Special Wolf Alpha Team (SWAT) team of Dallas. This is Rachel Bennet's story

We have met her in previous books and even the incident that is the catalyst for this book When the SWAT compound was attacked by hunters during a wedding. She gets a chance to shoot one of the hunters but for some reason she cannot pull the trigger and she hasn't been able to get over the guilt since. After a vicious attack SWAT werewolf Rachel Bennett is hounded by nightmares that left her with PTSD. Not really knowing who or what she can trust anymore, she's relieved to be assigned to a high-profile protective detail. She hoping the distraction of work will be just what she needs. But there appears to be a very gorgeous hunk who appears to follow her wherever she goes and she recognizes him.
Now he needs her help.

After being badly injured, former Navy SEAL Knox Lawson seeks out Rachel when he realizes he's turning into a werewolf. He'd once been part of the group hunting her kind, but he knew he had to quit when he found Rachel in his crosshairs. Now he desperately needs her help.

Rachel isn't sure she trusts Knox, but having him around keeps the nightmares away. Knox might not know much about being a werewolf, but there's no doubt he'll do everything in his power to win her trust and keep her safe.

Holy crap was this book confusing! Too many characters introduced far too quickly with too many side stories.

We start with a prologue that grabs your attention from the first page. Don't get too attached though because it's almost as if that becomes a forgotten piece of the story. At least it's not mentioned again in the first 16% of the book that I read. Maybe it comes back later.

We're then introduced to probably more than a dozen characters in a chapter or two. There's so many side stories going on that it's easy to forget who the key players are.

I quickly lost interest and gave up.

What I love most about this series is that it doesn’t take half of the book to get to the origin story of how the characters were “turned”. Because that is one of the first things we learn about them, we’re able to concentrate on the story line without the mystery of how they became a werewolf.

In this addition to the series, the focus is on Knox and Rachel. I like how Rachel’s character had all the power in this story. Even though she was going through some very intense and mentally draining things, she set the pace for the relationship with Knox. Yes, he’s an Alpha, but knew that he needed her to help him navigate his new normal. It made for a different dynamic than in some of the previous books.

The book is fast paced and such an easy read. The last few chapters are extremely exciting and you won’t be able to put it down. Can’t wait for more in this series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book from NetGalley
