A very secret war... With the planet Beredul liberated, the Wiyert and the humans from Earth celebrate their first victory against the fadohl—but at a cost. The fadohl now suspect the existence of an enemy. And they must never know the location of that enemy, since Earth's defenses consist of two stolen AI ships and a ragged band of Wiyert armed with salvaged weapons. How can the Earth humans hope to defeat the advanced technology of the galaxy-spanning fadohl? By never, ever, letting them know there's a war...
Chase writes satisfying, heartwarming connections very well, and this book is no exception. I especially enjoyed the rise of the AIs and how they each came into their own. It reminded me of the feeling I got from the first contact plot line in her earlier series The Sequoyah Trilogy.
I was a little disappointed that Seger and Tausos didn't have stronger parts to play in the plot, since they seemed like such high-potential characters.
The end felt like a good place to wrap things up, but I hope the author revisits this world with a short story or two to check in on everyone and their ongoing adventures.
Another fun read from Sabrina Chase. I thoroughly enjoyed this 3rd installment in the Argonauts of Space series. Since it had been a while since I read book #2, I re-read the last few chapters of it to prep, and then ripped through Soul Code in no time at all! More fun characters, including a special friend, and the complexity of the AI characters was a hoot. As with so many books I have enjoyed, I truly wanted to go join these characters and see what happens next - to the flesh/blood people, and the electronic people as well :-)
I should have read the first two books, I guess (this was a book I read while staying at a friend's house). I had a hard time understanding the characters and the story universe. Two and half stars rounded down.
This is a great series; the second by this author. Both are outstanding. I am so hoping she will continue in this genre. I have her in my favorites list.
Fun series to read, after some awkward points in the first book, the rhythm improved with each book, and this one was full of funny situations with the AI developing human treats and characters and culture clashing. Definitely I have to check out other books by this author.
