This retreat series offers you the opportunity to make a retreat with some great saint or holy person from history. Under the guidance of series editor Gloria Hutchinson, some favortie authors weave the mentor's own words into seven days of prayer.
This is a treat for a busy person or if you need something new in your spiritual practice or if you enjoy the work of either or both poets. For seven days, you meditate with Hopkins and Hildegard on the healing powers of "creation, creativity, and communion." Each day begins with a short example or exploration of the theme. Then there is a poetic opening prayers, reflections from one or both retreat directors, questions for spiritual reflection, and closing prayer from Scripture and both poets. Each day brings you closer to appreciating not only the wisdom of their writers but gaining insight and strength from their relationship with God and their expressions of faith. This was much needed. I'm glad I have kept this book over the years as this is a retreat I would definitely repeat.
Such a great retreat study! An abbess from the 11th century who stood up to the worldly clergy of the day and a Jesuit priest who was way ahead of his time with his poetry and understanding of nature and the divine.
This really resonated for me today, but I don't know that it would hit everyone as it did me today. It seemed to be God's special invitation to me as I closed out my 48 hour retreat today, and it was a great gift.
