What an extraordinary life this man led! Call it ambition or consumption, Buntlines drive was insatiable. He was the man who 'discovered' Buffalo Bill and launched his show; he wrote over 200 dime novels or shilling shockers. Married at least seven times--three at the same time--and the father of many children--alcoholic who gave temperance lectures and used the donations to buy his next binge--he was a western rake and an eastern roue.
Monaghan's work as a biographer and historian is exemplary.
