Five years ago, I died to save my family.

Through a twist of fate, I survived. Since then, I've been helping my sister run a shelter for supernaturals fleeing London's magical underworld. To fund it, I steal back dangerous magical objects that have fallen into the wrong hands. Not a simple task when I'm the only dragon shifter in London who can't turn into a dragon, but it pays the bills.

When an egg belonging to an unknown dragon species is delivered to me and then promptly stolen, however, my life is overturned. To retrieve the egg, I have to risk my neck in an underworld arena where shifters fight to survive. It doesn’t hurt that a smoking hot rogue dragon shifter has my back, but even he might turn on me when he finds out about the weird new powers I've been developing since I came back from the dead.

Five years ago, I died to save my family. This time it might be permanent…

Being the younger sister has its perks as much as disadvantages. It is up to Cori to use it to her best - and the best of everyone else.
Never shifting before, Cori works as a mercenary, catching criminals, to earn some money. When receiving a mysterious gift containing suspicious dragon egg, she is pulled into a whirlwind of action - Ember out cold from a strange anti-dragon poison, soul-sucking device, fighting arenas for shifters, mage and necromancer magic following unclear goals, and unexpected dragon shifter as an ally. Cori might now face the biggest challenge of her life.
Ember's story was the first series I read by this author, and was glad to return to this world with Cori. Dragons, faeries, mages, witches, and ex-assassins are a great bunch of characters, and set in a somehow fantasy-dystopian mashup of a world, it sets a good base for another entertaining story. It was a very fast read, with unpredictable twists and turns, and I enjoyed it a lot while lying on a beach relaxing :))

It was nice to get to know Cori in this series. Ember and Astor along with the rest of the gang are still involved. There is always something brewing at a key point or a ley line in this big world that Emma has created and I love it!

“This is your team? A gargoyle-witch, a cat shifter, a faerie and two dragons?” LOL

This is the funniest action-adventure from Emma Adams I have read. After Cory's (aka Coriander's) sister Ember gets poisoned, she receives a Dragon's Egg through the post. I can only imagine what the postman thought while delivering it. However, the dragon's egg gets stolen from her, and Cory decides to save her sister and save the egg by attending an underground supernatural fighting ring. Despite being the younger sister, she has balls. She takes no flack. I wish I had had her as a sister to show me an example of how to be strong but nice.

The action is constant, and there are a couple of mysteries to solve. The small one: why is every other shifter named for their capability (ember=dragon, get it?) except Cory? I can guess, but I am not telling!

While there is a love interest who also barrels into action with half-conceived plans, there is no spark (LOL) between them. It is just a story plot element. But read it for fun. I did!

I dove into this blind. But it seems that a lot of the characters you meet and overall plot references are from a previous series. I think I would’ve liked this story more if I had read the other, earlier books set in the same world.

Emma L. Adams’s Ignite (Heritage of Fire Book 1) is a wonderfully fun novel. It’s plot is frankly too much for me to easily summarize, but luckily the publisher’s blurb does and excellent job of it. I will just go directly to the “bottom line” instead. This is a neatly imaginative and extremely well written book with a plot that draws you in (all night long I kept reaching each chapter’s end and going for “just one more” until it was done - and now I’m exhausted but happy), plus a great lead in Coriander (Cory) supported by a really superb cast. Can’t really ask for more. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

Better

5 years on from the battle against everyone.. Coriander, Cori, has been working with Becky to collect dangerous objects for the ministry to raise funds for the shelter Ember's running for orphaned and lost shifters.

A mission to collect an enchanted record player from an innocent unaware human and a mysterious dragon egg sent by post from "you know who" is causing them enough strife. But when it's followed by an attack on their home and the shelter by gargoyles, Ember is poisoned and the weird egg goes missing it all seems to be more than just a bad day at the office.

Who are the Faulkner brothers? And why would they attack the shelter? Is it to do with the egg alone or the beginning of a new attempt to rid the city of shifters. But who is the enemy this time? Is it a new enemy or old?

You get thrown into the chaotic life of Coriander and her friends and family, not even 12 hours after being delivered a mysterious egg it is gone and now she needs to get it back as well as work out how to reverse the poison affecting her sister. I will be honest and say there is a load of characters you meet in this book and at times it can get a bit over whelming however you get past it and learn who they are more. I really can't wait for the next book to see what happens to Kits new pet as well as the mysterious Zeph !

Ok Ms. Adams's Heritage of Fire

Read the book " Ember " first. Even though this is book one of the series, Ember sets this storyline into focus. Looks to be another good book of action, action, action. Filled with new characters, Dragon Shifters, trolls, elves, hybrid dragon eggs, good guys, & gals. Of course there's handsome, not so handsome, a few worn around the edges, some drool worthy. Read EMBER 1st, helps you to understand the beginning of main figures.

I love this book. This book is engaging and I couldn't put it down. Cory is a dragon shifter who has not fully developed her abilities yet. But that doesn't stop her at all. When she meets another dragon shifter she faces some serious challenges and danger. This book is a must read

I loved the way the characters grew together. The story continued with the twists and turns of the plot continuing to surprise. I am looking forward the next book in the series. Great job Emma Adams!

DNF. I couldn't finish it. It had huge info dump and i needed to read again the previous pages to understand some things. I found it tiring but maybe it's a spinoff from another series (??). I don't know but i don't have the patience to try again.

Good read

This is a good start to a new series with a whole new set of challenges and characters. I was surprised that none of the characters from the other books were mentioned.

YA fiction

This is YA fiction. Personally I found it boring. I didn’t think you could make dragons boring but I was wrong.

An excellent continuation of this Dragon shifter storyline set in a post faerie invaded London. It is possible to read it without having read the Legacy of Flames series as the background is full explained in it but it is a great trilogy too so you should read it.

Some fiery dragon shifter leading ladies make this a great read.
