Written in first person by Elin Wyn & Ava York, Rogue Instinct is the 3rd book in the Rogue Star series, and switches perspectives between the Shein male Orrin and the human female Maris.

The birthrate for human males had dropped so low that it was rare a woman encountered a man outside of a reproduction agreement. Courting was never something human females were prepared for. It was something only found in history books. So that meant that EVERY human female was a virgin until they decided to procreate, and even then, romance was non-existent. The few men alive fucked multiple women for the sole purpose of making babies and relationships were not a thing. I'm sure those men were in heaven; getting to have sex all the time with no obligation or commitment. Women on the other hand? Let's just say that I'm sure this version of our future had more lesbians than this series hinted to. Let's face it, we've been giving ourselves orgasms for centuries and we don't need a man to accomplish that.

Maris's own omother had signed her up for an experimental fertility treatment while she was still a minor. The treatment was one of many that had been tested over the years to increase the likelihood of conceiving male children. It was an invasive treatment that would have kept her hostage within the nearest breeding facility. The first round of treatment would take nearly six months to complete. After that, she would have been matched with a suitable male. In order to prove the effectiveness of the treatment, she was required to produce three sons consecutively. Having no way of stopping her mother from placing her in this program against her will, Maris signed up for the Space Force instead. She later got into trouble by altering the state official’s ship (a crooked politician) which landed Maris at the Persephone Station on Pluto. While there, she put her engineering skills to work by keeping the station safe and functional.

Orrin was the chief engineer aboard the Rogue Star. He built the engine for the ship and singlehandedly kept it maintained until Maris came along and improved things with her inventions. If he hadn’t joined up with a smuggling crew aboard the Rogue Star, he would have gone into the Dominion Engineering Corps. Years prior, his hand had gotten caught in a piece of farm equipment and was mangled beyond help so he spent the next year and a half building and designing his own prosthetic. He was of the Shein race, which were large humanoids with copper skin, sharp teeth and glowing tattoos that told their life story.

I would recommend reading this series in order, but in the event that you didn't, here's what you missed: In the first book, the Persephone space station on Pluto (where the 30 human females lived) was hit by a shockwave and destroyed. The Shein, who were nearby on a mission to harvest ice from Pluto, rescued the women and fled the Dominion. 3 humans were killed during a job, bringing their number down to 27. The Shein harbored the humans, giving them rooms and jobs and keeping them safe. They were looking for income, by the way of transporting illegal shipments, after the Dominion declared the Rogue Star unsanctioned. They remodeled the ship and were headed to a planet called Katzul for work. In the 2nd book, they made it to Katzul and took a shady job delivering packages. Something didn't feel right about the delivery, so Aavat and Shenna investigated undercover, discovering that females from unknown planets were being sold at auctions as slaves to the highest bidders. Not wanting to turn a blind eye, the crew rescued an entire lot of alien females, then headed towards the Qasar Station.

They made it to the Qasar Station, with the rescued aliens aboard the Rogue Star. While there, Maris and Orrin went to the market to purchase supplies to increase security and maintenance/upgrades onboard the ship. They stopped to get lunch, where they overheard a bounty hunter looking for foreign females. They accepted a job transporting a family hiding from the Dominion to Neo, which was a small moon in orbit around Wera, an uninhabitable water planet. Turned out that it was a ruse, and instead of a family, they allowed the bounty hunter on board, who took over the ship, with the help of one of the rescued females. Princess Tiatra was a mole, placed among the other captured females to help track down the humans and with her skills, she assisted the bounty hunter. The crew eventually fought their way free, but Orrin got shot and almost died in the process.

First intercourse took place around the 77% mark; the same point as the last book. The author(s) still dangled the cheese for so long that it molded. The Shein have a secondary appendage just above their thick cock that supposedly stimulates the clitoris. Or, in the Doggystyle position, penetrates the anus. Their monster cocks are lined with ridges, making it every woman's dream dildo. Oh, and they vibrate. The buildup to the couple coming together sexually was not nearly as attention keeping as the last book. Something else worth mentioning is how much the writing is inaccurate. I'm sorry, but the author(s) have yet to capture the authentic or realistic bodily reaction to a women losing her virginity on a massively thick cock (which brings up another point, how do they know that the cocks are monsters if they don't have anything to compare it to, having never seen a cock before?). There's no depiction of the sting or pinch from the hymen being broken, no awkward discomfort, no soreness after the fact. Just pleasure and bliss from being in love and experiencing orgasmic nervana. Almost like the writers are still virgins themselves, with zero clues about how this shit really works. 🤔🤷🏼‍♀️

This book was longer than necessary, and the adventure to romance ratio was heavily unbalanced. Overall, I was extremely disappointed, and so far, I don't recommend the read, especially since I know what Ava York is capable of. I will read the next book in hopes for redemption, and also because apparently I'm a glutton for punishment. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Amazing third book in the series about the spaceship Rogue Star

This is the third book about the series Rogue Star going in depth which two other characters. Orrin is it an alien mechanic who loves working on the spaceship Rogue Star. He is jealous if anybody else works on it. Maris is a human engineer who wants to help.

These two characters are opposite, but they say opposite attracts. They hopefully can work together for the good of the spaceship. Is there something more going on between these two characters?

The characters are relatable, stubborn, and intriguing. The alien's physical characteristics of their reproductive organs make the erotic sexy scenario interesting. The plot is a fast-paced drama with intriguing twists and turns of the unknown enemies that play the spaceship. There is also some humor presented in the story. I don't know how much to say to give away spoiler alert.

The next book in the series goes in-depth on two more characters and I will borrow this book eagerly on Kindle Unlimited next.

Highly recommended for an alien romance.

I received an ARC edition of this book from the author.

You need to read the previous books to get the background for this story.

I really liked the progression from antagonists to colleagues to friends and only eventually to romance. We got to see the build-up between Maris and Orrin really develop in the story, both start out very unsure of each other and really come to trust and depend on each other. Maris certainly has issues with trust (don't want to spoil it, but her attitude makes a lot more sense as the story progresses), but Orrin slowly works past the barriers she's put up. Orrin started out as a bit of a jerk (very possessive of his engine and dismissive of what Maris could offer as an engineer), but as they are forced to work together he is willing to admit he was wrong in his judgement.

We're still getting pieces of the overall plot with someone manipulating both the Rogue Star and the women into some plot, though we get a few more hints there is still a good bit to come. The ending felt a bit drawn out at points (it was still good, just felt long).

Woohooo!!!

The adventures of the Rogue star crew are just getting more and more exciting.  Rogue Instinct is filled with nail biting suspense that will have you hoping that the next book in the series comes out soon as you want to get to the bottom of the mystery surrounding the crew and their unseen enemies.

In this book we see Orrin stepping back and giving Maris more hands on his baby(the ship's engine) and agreeing to listen to her ideas after she went over his head and straight to the captain.

The two end up spending more time working closely together.....very very closely..... and another beautiful romance blossoms on board the ship between a Shein and a human."

I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book.

Rogue Instinct by Elin Wyn and Ava York
Maris works with Orrin, on his engine on the Rogue Star. She does not make friends easily, she prefers working in oil and coolant. Orrin built the engine and does not like others to work on it unless he is standing over them but he is learning to let Maris help with the ship and she is softening his heart and hers. I love this third book in this series. It is full of different twists and turns, It keeps you guessing what is going to happen. I also like that you can read each book in a different order. I highly recommend this book and the whole series. I received an advanced reader copy and have voluntarily chosen to leave a review. This is my honest opinion.

Rogue Instinct

Engineers falling in love - super sweet. And the author ended it with Valentine's Day which was also super sweet. In true Valentine's Day fashion, the MFC gave the MMC a handmade Valentine's card,

“To my dearest Orrin,’” he read, louder than he normally would, “‘you are the only tool that keeps my heart in working order.’”

The cornier the better. There are a lot of unanswered mysteries going on in the background which are interesting.

I'd like to see some smoother transitions in later books (which are already written). The MMC starts out being rude and mean and then becomes the nicest guy ever pretty quickly. A bit more description might have helped with that?

This has been the best one for me so far. Maris is a hard woman to get to know. Always serious, a dry strange sense of humor and she can fix almost everything. Orrin is the chief engineer on the Rogue Star and allows no one to touch his engine or any mechanical part of the ship. I loved how cute they were together once they stopped arguing and Orrin actually listened to what she said. They make a jam up team and the Rogue Star has never run so good. They've ramped up security but the fight is still not over. I requested an advanced reader copy and am under no obligation to leave this review.

Who says only opposites attract? In this case Marin and Orrin couldn't be more similar and yet they made a perfect pair. I don't know who was more stubborn, Maris or Orrin? The stubbornness was definitely part of their charm and I really fell in love with the characters. Both very intelligent, funny, and brave. Rogue Instinct definitely had excitement and danger, and some moments my heart hurt for the characters. I really enjoyed yet again another wonderful book in this series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

I liked that Maris and Orrin both grew in personality!

Maris has trouble relating to anyone because of something that happened while on Earth.
She starts to form a relationship with Orrin the engineering supervisor. But the beginning involves a lot of arguing over how things should run or be fixed. They soon start teasing each other.
A betrayal puts everyone in danger.
I read some negative reviews but I really enjoyed this book. Each person has their own opinions but to me it showed the growing of the characters' personality.
The plot arc continues into the next story.

h has anger issues, both mechanics

I couldn’t get into this book. Both the alien H and human female, Maris, are mechanics ( engineers as called in the book ) on the spaceship. There was a bunch of warbling about parts and connections yada yada. They annoyed one another. The heroine would almost instantly fly off the handle. And she always read as she was internally angry all the time.
Couldn’t get into the book so did not finish it. Thank goodness it is in KU!

Orrin and Maris

I love this series! This one is just as good as the previous two. This story follows Orrin and Maris, our two engineers that have the same cocky attitude and inability to share. The relationship that they develop is really cute because after they learn to trust each other, the continue to pretend to bicker and tease each other. I also enjoyed the non-romantic subplot, that is SLOWLY developing the overarching mystery.

Mechanics and systems make connecting a bit difficult.

The hero is this tale reminds me of a good looking version of Scotty from Star Trek. He's gruff and doesn't care for anyone messing with his engines especially not some woman from a backwards planet. Read to find out what happens when she shows him up.

Enjoyable

Enjoyable story while learning more of the back stories of the Persephone ladies. As in earlier stories I found the alien characters more likeable than the humans. The human characters tend to be foolish, self centered and encourage dangerous behavior. I realize that sets up the story line but it distracts the reader from immersion in the story. Stupid behavior is not cute or appealing.
