Born in California, Caryl McAdoo got to Texas in time to celebrate her first birthday. As a Dallas seventh grader, she remembers a homework essay on ‘What will you be doing in 2000?’ Looking into the future, she saw herself as an inter-galactically famous author, streaking from planet to planet signing books.

She laughs, “But I didn’t start writing again until the late ’80s, then was so blessed to find the DFW Writers’ Workshop in ’93.”

Her first book debuted ’99, then for the next nine years, she averaged a title a year from four traditional presses: two non-fiction, four novels, and three mid-grade chapter books.

In March 2014, her first historical Christian romance VOW UNBROKEN debuted from Howard Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.

In April that year, she re-released LADY LUCK'S A LOSER (formerly The Apple Orchard Bed and Breakfast) with a new chapter. In September 2014 HEARTS STOLEN, book two in the Texas Romance Family Saga historical romance series, debuted as her first new Indie, and in November A LITTLE LOWER THAN THE ANGELS, her first Biblical fiction series The Generations launched. So four titles in 2014.

Book three of the historical Family Saga HOPE REBORN debuted in January 2015 to start off a whole new year with eleven new titles planned. THE PREACHER'S FAITH comes in February, Caryl's first contemporary in Red River Romance series. THEN THE DELUGE COMES, volume two of The Generations, follows in March.

Since 2014, she's published over sixty new books, averaging over seven new titles a year through 2020. She completed the 'Texas Romance Family Saga' with a total of ten novels, plus several 'Texas Companion Books'!

Plus, she's eight books into a second series, the 'Cross Timbers Romance Family Saga' and debuts a third New Beginnings saga's book one WAGONS WEST in November 2022, her fifth book for the year.

Also known as Grami, she adores twenty-five grandsugars, and she and O’Pa—her high school sweetheart and husband of fifty+ years write together. She’s dedicated to advancing God’s Kingdom through her novels, praying her story gives God glory!

Caryl loves to share her testimony, pray, and praise and worship Him; He frequently gives her new songs.

She believes all good things are from Him and that her books will minister His love, mercy, and grace to her readers.

Irving, Texas remained her lifelong home until 2008 when she and Ron followed God’s leading to Red River County in the far northeast corner of the Lone Star State. There at The Peaceable, the twenty acres of blessings they call home, the McAdoos raise chickens and goats while waiting for God to open the next door!

"Please accept my profuse apologies; I couldn't pass us this opportunity to please Mother. Forever your servant" - said the letter from Reginald, Christina's fiance, breaking their engagement! Thus began the adventure for Christina, who had planned to marry and stay on the east coast in New York, while her brother Aster and nieces Patricia and Samantha journeyed westward to California to start a new life. What she did not expect was the addition of one handsome Ethan Cord, a man her brother hires to go with the family and an ulterior motive of matching her and Ethan up!
This was such a wonderful story and I could not put it down once I started! Caryl McAdoo writes with so much feeling and with her detail to the surroundings and indepth development of characters, you feel you can see and travel with them!
Can Christina move on from her broken engagement and find love again, even better suited for her in Ethan? I loved the banter between these two and the entire family. Aster's wife had passed away and the girls looked to Christina, so there was a lot of fun interaction as they tried to play matchmaker.
Be prepared to fall in love with this family and be left wanting Aster's story, because I know there has to be one!

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Life takes on a fast turn of events for both Christina and her brother when Christina's fiancee dumped her. Now she has no choice but to head west with her brother and his two kids. This story takes some interesting turns as this family joruney's across the US. Caryl McAdoo creates interested characters that fascinates me and keeps me interested in the plot throughout the story. I really enjoyed Christina's character, and felt she added so much to the story. Especially with the two completely opposite men who have been in her life. The cover of this book is beautiful,  and I appreciate the way Ms. McAdoo makes mention of the Christian life in the lives of her characters.

This is a story I encourage you to check out. I hope you will enjoy this one as much as I did. A copy of this book was provided by the author/publisher for me to read and review. The opinions here are mine only. I was not ask to write a positive review.

The book was 166 pages, which is deceptive if you think it's longer. Too much whining from the heroine, when the book should have concluded, it started right into another relationship, I'm sure setting the stage for another sequel-which left it as a cliffhanger, but not my type of thing. I haven't read any of the other books in this series.

Uniquely Common is #12 in the Lockets and Lace multiauthor series. It is second in the ten novels releasing in 2019 after ten were released in 2018 and the 2nd that beloved Christian historical fiction author Caryl McAdoo has in the series. It is rich with Christian faith, lovable characters, well-researched historical details, the start of a pioneer journey, humor, and romance.

It is New York City in 1851. Christina Adams lives with her brother, Asher, and helps raise his daughters Samantha, “Sam”, 12, and Patricia, 7. She is the only mother Patricia has known as their mother died when she was a babe. She receives a letter from her fiancé, Reggie; he is breaking their engagement as he is now going to marry a countess. Christina, at 26 years old, knows she may never marry, and considers herself to be “common” in comparison to a beautiful countess.

Asher and his daughters are taking a wagon (prairie schooner) west to California to buy and develop a vineyard and become a vintner. With their brownstone sold, Christina needed to find someplace to live and work quickly or go west with her family.

Asher brings home a friend he made quite some time ago when traveling back to the US from Europe. Asher is a handsome young man who seems kind and has a good sense of humor. He is considered a “hireling” of sorts, as he will go to California with Asher and his family in a second prairie schooner. He will stay in their carriage house until they begin their trip. Christina is not happy that Asher didn’t discuss Ethan with her before bringing him home; how could he bring a stranger to stay with her and the girls and go west with them?

Sam and Patricia have a different idea, however. They see how handsome Ethan is, how kind and friendly, and decide he is the man Aunt Chrissy should marry. Marry? She was just dumped and they want her to think of their “hireling” as a beau? Yet, as they take the train to New Orleans, then Missouri for the first leg of their journey, he seems quite interested in her. Asher and the girls are intent on throwing them together at every opportunity. Chrissy does not know if she can trust another man, or if she can spend months – months! On a wagon across the country.

The characters in this story are endearing and fun. I got to know Christina quite well, and appreciate her intelligence and sense of adventure, especially when learning new games. Including poker. Ethan seems a charmer who chooses to make his life an open book when Christina asks questions, even if it means losing her for some of the things in his past. The children are an absolute delight as they try to put their beloved Aunt Chrissy and Ethan together. Their next “project” is to find a new wife for their father, someone unlike their mother who would be a wonderful part of their family.

I enjoyed the plot, even if some things were predictable. There are surprises, however, that add to the story and pave the way for a new novel by this author. I very much appreciate the prayers and faith of those in the story, the games they play together, and how well they get along. I would love to follow up on their journey to California and see how they get through the prairie and mountains! I highly recommend this novel to fans of the author and historical Christian fiction!

From a thankful heart: I received an eARC of this novel from CelebrateLit, and this is my honest review.

The first thing I noticed was the beautiful cover on Uniquely Common by Caryl McAdoo. The next thing was that it was part of the Lockets and Lace Collection. The title of the book “Uniquely Uncommon” struck me as intriguing, also. All that being said, I was ready to dive in.

From page one this book had my interest. I became invested in the characters lives quickly. Poor Asher, a widower with two daughters and a younger sister tagging along on his journey out West. Christine (Chrissy), his sister, had just been jilted by her scoundrel of a boyfriend. The girls, her adorable nieces, decide to become matchmakers for their beloved auntie.

Wow, what a delightful book. I giggled my way through it. Author McAdoo has a knack for combining inspiration, faith, humor, history, and romance into one entertaining book that keeps readers on their toes. Plenty of twists and turns are added to maintain interest throughout the story. For me, the faith element was not as strong as in some of her books, but it is still woven from beginning to end. There is no question that this is a Christian Fiction novel. This books lives up to its Christian Fiction categorization.

Set in 1851, this book takes readers on a train ride and then boat journey to California. It has many fun historical facts about the time period and pioneers. I love books that leave me with information. It is a fun way to learn.

Author McAdoo scoops readers right up and plops them down in the middle of her setting and storyline. Her characters become friends as I “live” each book. This brilliant offering was well thought, researched, and exquisitely written.

Whether you are a seasoned fan of Caryl McAdoo or this will be your first time to experience one of her books, you will no doubt love it. I certainly did. She brings characters, settings, and situations to live with her lovely engaging writing style.

I highly recommend this book. It is a fast paced one so be prepared to call out for dinner or eat left overs. You won’t want to stop reading to cook dinner! I didn’t. There are no discussion questions at the end, but there are sneak previews for upcoming books. “Uniquely Common” gets a 5 out of 5 stars from me. It was a page-turning delight for me. I think a book club would love reading and discussing this book. A copy was provided by Celebrate Lit but these are my own thoughts and opinions.

As I finish this story, I remind myself how gifted this author is. Every story she writes, she puts her heart and soul into it. Her faith is strong and it shows in every story she writes. When I met Christina I was instantly pulled into her story. It does happen on occasion that a young woman is dumped right before the wedding. Poor Christina is devastated but more importantly I think her pride was a little bruised. Come on ladies, who wants to get dumped as you are about to get married. The scoundrel needs to leave as soon as possible before Christina's brother catches up with him. I liked seeing how the author allowed Christina to slowly heal from her broken heart by taking a journey with her brother and two nieces.

There may have been a little information left out about the trip. Oh well I'm sure Christina won't mind an extra person tagging along. Christina and her brother Asher are very close and she adores her beautiful, funny nieces. When Ethan appears as the tag along, I could hear Christina gasp a bit. After all he is quite dashing and the perfect match for one certain young woman. I laughed at the banter between the two people who try their best to just be friends.

The story is a wonderful look at how love slowly develops when two people trust God, and allow themselves to heal from their past.Walking the streets in New Orleans was a treat to experience. What I really liked about Ethan was how patient he was and how protective he became with Christina. I feel like I've been taken back in time where women wore beautiful dresses that flowed and men were gentlemen while escorting their lady around town. The ending is wonderful and I'm anxious to read the authors next story called "Remi."

I received a digital copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

What if you were engaged to someone and he broke the engagement off in order to marry someone else. Your brother and his two daughters whom you live with are leaving to travel west. So the only real choice is for you to travel with them. This is the situation Christina Adams finds herself in, with the added twist of her brother and his two daughters trying to play matchmaker between herself and Ethan Cord.

From the moment the two meet, I wanted the two to fall in love. During the pages of the book everything from card games to dancing to shopping and more happen. The story moves at a great pace and the two daughters add to the story in the form of meddling (done lovingly) and more. The only character I have to say I did not like was the horrible ex-fiance who had the nerve to break up with Christina through a letter. On the other hand, that break-up allowed Christina to find the man God planned for her to be with all along.

The idea of traveling west in prairie schooners does not excite Christina but in the course of getting to where they will begin their journey by finding a wagon train to join up with, Christina and Ethan find true love.

This is the first book I have read in this series, but now I plan on starting at the beginning and reading all these books. While the book is Christian fiction, it does not slam that in the reader’s face, instead it is done in a way that brings the reader along on their journey. So check this book out for yourself.

Quick, engaging read. I had some concerns about the modernness of everyone’s language but it was easily overlooked. The setting and characters were fun. With quick wit and snappy comebacks, I felt I was watching a volleyball match as Christine and Ethan volleyed barbs with one another. I love conversations saturated with sarcasm, and Uniquely Common satisfied that point.

The two girls, Samantha and Patricia, were a delight to read. Their attempts at matchmaking made me smile and occasionally shake my head with laughter.

I thought the entire book moved at a quick clip, no sagging portions or periods of inactivity. As soon as you read the last chapter, you know there’s going to be another book. And I’m okay with that.

I wouldn’t say it was overtly spiritual, just a steady little thread. This tactic kept the book light, allowing you to absorb each moment without feeling overwhelmed. My favorite part has to be the journey itself on the train. Caryl McAdoo does a wonderful job making you feel right at home.

"Uniquely Common" by Caryl McAdoo is a clean and sweet fun read. I love how the characters are "real people" with pasts that are not the best, but after coming to Jesus, their lives are changed.

" Uniquely Common" has a little bit of matchmaking that is quite obvious to the one being set up.

I have only read this one book in the "Lockets and Lace" series, but I believe there are 19 books and Want to read them all if I ever get my to be read list done! Each book can be read as a stand alone title. If the other books in the series leave you with a feeling that all is right with the world and a song in your heart like "Uniquely Common" by Caryl McAdoo does than I say this series is a hit.

The ending makes you want to get started reading the next book by Caryl McAdoo because it is a sweet cliffhanger for at least one of the characters. But, it is a sweet cliffhanger!

I was given a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit. These opinions are my own.

Lockets and Lace series does not only entertain the reader, but is informative of pioneer life in the 1850s and beyond. Uniquely Common is Christina and Ethan's love story, but seems to have two subplots - widower Asher, Christina's brother and Samatha, Christina's niece. The Adams family begins their journey to California first by train and then continues to St. Joseph, Missouri by steamboat. I enjoyed the story until the last two chapters, which seemed rushed especially about Ethan's unexpected trip home. Then in chapter 20 ended with a cliffhanger - promoting a new series for the author. Another reason I would give this book 3.5 stars is Christina's 13 year old niece Samantha's voice seemed too modern for the 1851 setting. Not sure about the historical accuracy in Book 12 - travel by rail and steamboat, all the ready made clothes and at every stop the ladies wanted to shop.

I've had the privilege of meeting this sweet lady. Caryl always has a smile on her face and an encouraging word. Her talent as a author is amazing. Any time I see her name on a book I know I have to read it. Her motto "Praying my story gives God the glory" reflects her heart for God. In her newest book "Uniquely Common" she weaves a beautiful but fun story. Two little girls will win your heart as soon as you meet them. They are so adorable and smart as they work together to help their aunt realized she needs a husband. Will Christina fall for their match making or will she stand her ground on staying unmarried? Will Ethan be a willing participant of the girls plans? Please, read the book. You will love it!

Blessings,

I found Uniquely Common to be sweet, redemptive and hopeful with a dash of interesting history. I enjoyed Christina and Ethan as well as the other characters which all were colorfully described. The history was an interesting look into the past. The book seemed very redemptive to me in more ways than one. The spiritual aspect was light but was hopeful and inspiring. The history seemed a little light considering the genre, but I appreciated the aspects the author gave us. The plot had quite a bit of development, and the book was definitely one of a kind. If you enjoy light history, sweet romance, or a redemptive read, this one is for you.

WOW, another great book by Caryl McAdoo!! Uniquely Common is a Historical Fiction Romance book and it really it true to that genre.

The main characters, Christina and Ethan, really are quite interesting and watching their relationship develop throughout the book. The setting of the 1850's is one that I really enjoy. The storyline flows so easy and is a very fun read. I could not and would not stop reading until I finished the book.

Uniquely Common is book 12 in the Lockets and Lace series and I am very much looking forward to reading the next book in the series! Caryl McAdoo is a MUST Read author, as she is very talented and stays true to the History Era she is writing about! GREAT Book!

I haven't read any of the other books in this series so don't know if/how the stories connect, but this story started too abruptly for me without fully developing the setting. Overall it moved at too fast of a pace for me which stunted me from being able to connect. I would consider this a better read for fans of novellas. I personally prefer longer stories with more depth, but this one could easily attract readers looking for a shorter read with a lighter atmosphere. I've seen some other people share that they enjoyed the fast pace of this book, so it's definitely all personal preference. I'd recommend taking a look at some other reviews as well to see what others thought.

Overall, a lovely read!

What I loved most:
Relatable characters! While they fit some clichés, they were unique and not just like the characters in the last thirty books I have read from this time period.

Though I do have a few complaints:
1. The ending is rather abrupt as the story continues in another book (“Remi” of the “Prairie Roses Collection”). I much prefer stand-alone novels and this could have been one if not for the teaser ending.
2. There were a few times I was lost as to whether they were at a hotel or on the train or a boat. Their journey was not straightforward and a little more explanation would’ve been preferred.

I really enjoyed this book! The author wrote a story that manages to capture you attention yet leaves you wanting more at the same time. I have read several of Mrs.McAdoo's stories and have loved everyone. From the characters to the setting you will fall in love with Uniquely Common. I absolutely loved Christina! She has a grit and determination you can't help but admire yet she's not so tough you can't relate to her. I loved everything about Uniquely common and I think you will too!

Uniquely Common

I love these kind of stories. Set in the time when they had to travel by wagon. They also did some traveling by boat. This was a fun book to read.

The book starts out where Christina and her fiancé had broken up. So now she thinks she will never marry. For the time being she settles for caring for her nieces. Teaching them their schoolwork.

Christina’s brother hires Ethan to help in their travels. Some match making is in the works.

I received a complimentary copy of the book from Celebrate Lit. I was not required to write an positive review. This is my own opinion.

This was such a good story. Ms. McAdoo is a great storyteller and this book is no exception. I loved Christina, Ethan, and Asher, and Samantha and Patty were a delight. I loved their matchmaking. Fun Romance

I enjoyed this fun romance that started with an ironic twist. Our heroine turned cautious after her bad experience with a fiance who called off the wedding, but that stop her brother from bringing home a stranger and informing her she's heading west with the family. The author wrote some cute characters for nieces, very believable, and a great hero. There were a few loose ends. I suspect a related story is coming.

I am looking forward to the next book in this series. I am also looking forward to the book about Remi. This book talks a lot about people that will show up in future books. This was very interesting. I loved Christina and Cord. They were great together. I also love Asher’s children. This book shows a little how some people got to St. Joseph’s to start the Oregon trail. Loved the story. I enjoyed reading how Christina overcame her heartbreak. I loved her spunky attitude and quirkiness, that made her very unique. She was perfectly made for Ethan. It was fun to see that he already knew they were perfect for each other, he just had to convince Christina. Over time they were able to lean on each other.

Lockets, lace, and little girls

Little girls have fun playing matchmaker in this novel. Each story in the series has a unique connection to the Barbarian Jeweler in St. Joseph, MO. I have enjoyed the whole series written by different authors. This book a a fun story. The family starts out in a trip to California with Brother, sister, nieces, and brother's friend who is soon to be a partner in a new business. Trusting can be difficult.
