If you are looking for gentle romps through the flowers, with lovers holding hands and never making mistakes, then my books are not for you.

I don't write heroes or heroines, I write people with baggage, history and problems. My characters are flawed, they're messy, they make disastrous mistakes that are hard to come back from. My stories are not sweet or kind, they are dark and, at times, cruel. They deal with uncomfortable subjects and I do not apologise for it.

If you like plot twists, characters you don't think you'll ever grow to love but eventually do, sarcasm, dark paths and messy relationships, then come on in. The water may be deep and shark-infested, but I know the way out ...I promise.

This book is for you if… you won’t let a sequel that’s not as good as the first instalment keep you from pursuing a series.

Overall.
I have mixed feelings about this sequel. While I was on board with the plot of Midnight Touch , I am very torn about the plot of Midnight Temptation. First and foremost, the way Gemma's trauma is handled and 'treated' was ghastly from beginning to end in my eyes. I was pretty appalled by the way Deke treated Gemma sometimes - brutal and harsh, almost violent even. I am not an expert and can thus not judge whether the positive effects he had with this on her are realistic or not.

On the other hand, I loved how Gemma was mostly healing out of her own accord, with her wolf protecting her and taking over when it got too much for her. It did a little something to take off the edge of that damaged female trope the author seems to be a fan of. I really hope this is not going to be a theme in every book of the series, it's just too much.

Also on the more original side of this book is the background story of Damien (Damian?)'s betrayal to the pack. I'm glad they made more of it than their random average killer who posed as a friend for the better part of their time spent together. I like things to be multidimensional, and that definitely the case with the story outside of the romances in the Midnight Pack universe.

While I praised the prequel for its steaminess, I can't really say the same about Midnight Temptation. They were meh and all seemed to be similar

What’s happening.
After being freed from her gruesome imprisonment, Gemma needs time to heal. While the confines of Midnight Pack seem to smother her at first, she slowly realises how much her half-breed nature and her heart depend on the shifters - one shifter in particular - that have already taken her sister in as one of their own.

Deke and Gemma were fire! You strong independent sassy people who are trying to overcome drama with an angst filled life? Perfection. Not only does this outline the one couples story but it also keeps on track for explaining the back story that’s working throughout the entire series. Kept me entertained the whole time.

Deacon Jacobs is the "irreverent asshole" kind of hero. He was pretty funny, a little wild, definitely attractive, strong not just physically, and sometimes too pushy. Really, he took it way too far sometimes. But, and you know it's coming, he's good at heart.

Gemma is the snarky and fierce kind of heroine. She's strong and independent, and gives as good as she gets. I liked her. Only one thing seemed out of place here: she has a waitressing job and either didn't have any career plans/ambitions, or we just didn't get to find out about them in the book. No interests/hobbies were mentioned either. I felt like a person like Gemma would want more out of life than just serving food and sitting at home.

This installment of the series had the same features I liked in the first book: there was a plot, high stakes, important side-characters. We got to see more of the relationships in the Pack and between brothers. There were some unexpected twists, too! The villain had an interesting story and complex motivations. He's not your generic cardboard cut-out romance villain. Cudos L. Ann.

One thing I have to say though: Gemma went through a very traumatic event (rape and a 3-day enslavement) at the beginning of the book. She and Deacon weren't in a relationship before it happened, they only kissed once. So for most of the book, they gradually overcome her trauma and end up together. And I had the same impression here as I had before with other genre romance books that put the MCs in this position: it felt like it was more about the abuse and abuser than it was about the development of their relationship. They talk of nothing else, and hardly get to know each other. And then BAM! love. It's not my thing...

So, strangely, in this installment of the series, again, the romance between the MCs wasn't actually what I liked about the book.

All in all it was a good read.

Audiobook read. Hooked on this series.

Midnight Temptation is the second book and would definitely be better if you’ve read Midnight Touch first. This is Deacon and Gemma’s story. Both of them are the siblings of the characters in book one. At the end of Midnight Touch Gemma has had a traumatic time and the chemistry she felt with Deacon is broken. Now the pair have to work out a way to move forward while still keeping their eyes on the past.

This is a steamy read. It’s about shifter wolfs and involves the community. It’s about finding the right person to heal all wounds. There are some interesting characters including villains. Gemma has some internal demons to overcome as well as a side of her to accept. I really enjoyed the twists and turns.

I had a break between book one and two which made me appreciate how much I’ve liked the world L Ann has created. I won this in a competition with no obligation to review. The author has a clear voice and tries to add feeling. Mike Peterman is growing on me.

Midnight temptation is all that I expected and more from Deacon and Gemma's story. L. Ann explores some dark themes, tempered with her signature style of wit, humor and snappy dialogue. Like Deacon and Gemma themselves, this story has a tough outer shell that once it's been chipped away, exposes a softer and more meaningful underbelly. L. Ann has created an intriguing world with a unique blend of paranormal and contemporary, delivered with wit, style and a dash of suspense. I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

Continues the story from book 1. The H and h are siblings of couple in book 1, and they have to face so many challenges. This book includes a terrible situation for the h, not a a fairy tale. He tries so hard to help her but his tough guy image and smart mouth isn't what she needed. She's a strong woman, now lost and his love is overwhelming for her. Their story has a HFN but it's clear she's unhappy, and he can't help her. Great book, with more story to come in book 3.

3 Cosy Stars

Book 2 picks up where book 1 ended, focusing primarily on shifter Deacon (DJ) and Gemma, who found herself kidnapped by the hunters, a kidnapping that has left a lot of scars, scars that mean she blames herself and has lost some of her spark. A spark Deacon is determined to bring back, and so does all he can to annoy and anger her.

In all honesty I found Cassie's reactions or lack of them, when it came to Gemma and what she had gone through weird, it just didn't sit well with me. This book is darker than the first one.

This was a good read, but didn't like it as much as the first book, but still finished wanting to know what would happen next.

4.5/5 - Deacon x Gemma are FIRE!! PNR Wolf-Shifter, book two.

This book picks up after book one with Gemma dealing with the aftermath of her capture and horrific rape. Deacon is the only one she can be around but at arms length.

Deacon is hilarious. He’s an ass but owns it and we get to see a much deeper side of his character. #smokeandmirrors

Gemma is a fiercely strong female. She’s snarky and doesn’t put up with Deacons shit. #loveher

They oozed chemistry in the previous book and it just ratcheted higher and higher in this book.

So many plot twists that I NEVER SEE COMING!

The 4.5 rating is bc an editor was needed for this book. The spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors were distracting. Formatting was another area that seemed off. It made reading the ebook confusing at times.

✨Many props again to Jess for making me read this series!

FYI:

Off-page rape is discussed.

Lots of sex!! Heat level 4/5.

Temptation is right

This book picks up right where book one left off without missing a beat. The characters and story lines are amazing. Gemma is a very strong person who makes you want to wrap her up in cotton and take care of her. And Deacon? Him and all his brothers are serious book boyfriend material. I am really enjoying this series. I have been reading and listening to the audiobook and I highly recommend doing both. The narrator does a great job.

I am really happy I discovered this author. I don't normally read a lot of shifter books because they tend to be kind of cheesy. This series though is not in the least. There is a depth to the writing and characters. The storyline is complex and there is humor. I also love the banter and dialogue between the characters.

This book was a little heavier than the previous book because of the subject matter but it was handled with cafe. I cannot wait to see what is in store for Cormac.

I got one word…. Deacon, and we aren’t talking about the Deacon you find in church ladies…this shifter will steal your heart! He's the funny guy with heart. He's totally swoon worthy....

“Why do you think I call you Starshine?” he whispered. “You shine brighter than any precious gem. When we first met, you reminded me of the stars on a clear night – bright, beautiful and completely out of my reach." ~ Deacon

Overall Rating: 5 your breaking my heart Stars

Standalone: Not really, yes this story focus' on Deacon and Gemma but there is so much more too it that will be missed as as standalone
Steam: 3 make me scream Deacon so the whole house hears flames
Triggers: Still lots of triggers, most off page but many are addressed in this book

This book was a difficult journey for Gemma and Deacon. In book one Deacon is the comic relief, doesn’t let anything get him down. In book two, we find out there are more layers to Deacon than what he lets the outside world see. Yep, to be cliché, Deacon is an onion, layers upon layers.

Gemma is struggling. Struggling with her new normal, the ramifications of the events in book one, she is struggling to heal and not be a victim. Deacon is the crazy to match her crazy, and it is interesting to see Deacon help her on her journey to healing! I will admit that there is a lot of pain in this book, and that sometimes it just takes your breath away and makes you wish you could just hide under a blanket and pretend everything is hunky dory.

This story goes in directions I wasn't prepared. L. Ann has taken this shifter trope and flipped it on it's ass. Once again, WARNING: This book has triggers and dark undertones. If that is outside your comfort zone, I don’t recommend. However, this book is original, and the storyline is fresh. Just beware, everything is not as it seems. and I think we are about to step (or be thrown) off the ledge...

You will love Deacon and Gemma’s story! It has romance, suspense, healing and of course the hunt for revenge. Revenge is my favorite activity, I mean trope. I picked up the book immediately after reading Midnight Touch and simply couldn't put it down until I finished it. I couldn't stop turning the pages....There is a major storm coming and things are about to get real interesting for the midnight pack!

There is so much to this story and I don't want to spoil any of it because that is half the fun. I will admit that L. Ann scares me because she isn't afraid to yank the rug right out from under you. Just when you think you know what's going to happen, yank...and you are left wondering WTH just happened. Just when you start to feel comfortable again...yank.

So for me to reread any book is a recommendation in itself. For me to reread an entire series...I can count on one hand how many series I would reread. All I can say, I recommend! Grab this series and start reading! I don't think you will be disappointed.

This book is amazing! Deacon rescues Gemma and while everyone else is tiptoeing around her trying to hold her together like fragile glass, Deacon goes for the kill! He knows what she needs is not to be pieced together gently, but to remember how strong she is. She needs normalcy. Not only does Deacon push past her walls, he shatters and obliterates them. He is just the wolf to help her put herself back together, but he is the glue as well. Deacon has the ability to bring Gemma back from the fog and the edge of insanity just by being Deacon. On top of that, they've made some horrible discoveries regarding Damien, Shaun, and Gemma's family. Deacon, Shaun, and Mac are in some hot water, and the Midnight Pack alphas have overcome some serious obstacles before, but this new piece of information from their world is bigger than anything they've faced. I don't want to give too much away but this book is epic. It is worth picking up and 100% makes you want to keep reading! This deserves 2 thumbs up and 5 stars! Loved it. I can't wait to get my hands on the next one.

"Do you keep running from me because you want me to chase you? Or because I scare you?"

Holy Hannah this was amazing!!! I've read many shifter books, and I have to tell you, these wolves? They are the hottest shifters, hands down!!! Gah!! I so wish there were really wolf shifters in this world, because I'll be first in line to try to make one mine!! (Ooooh!! Do you think there could be?)

Gemma Duncan is finally free. Free from that monster and the cage he kept her in. But she's still in a prison of self-loathing, guilt, and shame. It was all her fault - what happened to Shaun, what happened to her - all of it her fault. They all look at her with pity, but they'd hate her if they knew. But Deacon doesn't look at her that way. No, he looks at her with a hunger she can't resist. He's pushing her buttons with every other sentence - forcing her to fight when she just wants to curl up and hide. When danger finds the pack once again, she knows he'll lay down his life to protect her. But this time, their roles may just be reversed.

Deacon Jacobs isn't looking for a mate. He's just not the mating kind of wolf. But something about Gemma calls to him. He can't explain it, nor can he resist it. But she's broken after what happened. He won't let her withdraw inside herself and carry the guilt any longer. That monster, Damien, will pay for what he did to his pack - to Gemma. But, not everything is what is seems to be. There is more going on than anyone could have imagined, and Deacon just might pay the ultimate price.

I absolutely love this series. I think the sexiest thing Deacon said was "You need to take your hands off her. My wolf doesn't like it." SWOOOOON!!! I thought I was calling dibs on Shaun from Midnight Touch. Nuh-uh. I'm calling dibs on Deacon. I'll probably call dibs on each of them as their stories come out, but hey, a girl has a right to be fickle. Y'all definitely have to read this one!!

You need to read the books in this series in order. It’s necessary in order to fully understand and appreciate what is going on within the story, characters, and world.

Deacon is Shaun’s twin brother and one of the 3 alpha’s in his pack (though Shaun and Deacon are not leading the pack). He is quite a bit more cocky and playful than Shaun. His family means everything to him though and it’s obvious. I loved Deacon right away and knew from book one that he and Gemma would have a fantastic story with so many emotions and definitely some issues. Gemma is Cassie’s sister and very independent and stubborn. Deacon and Gemma both fight their attraction to each other, making it seem like they hate each other more often than not. When a situation comes up that leaves Gemma traumatized (book 1) it’s up to Deacon to get her to come back around and start to heal. It’s a rough go with these two. I had moments where I was angry and frustrated; really feeling the lack of trust and communication. I also had moments where I wanted to cry along with the characters because you could really feel their pain. Even after this book ends, these two do not have the easiest of relationships. Their story is only just starting in this book. They have so much to overcome and work through together.
We also get more of Shaun and Cassie in this book and get to see them grow as well.
A truly wonderful follow up in the series.

So what can I say L.Ann is certainly becoming one of my favourite authors, her books are absolutely amazing and beautifully written.
This book starts of where Shaun and Gemma are rescued by Deacon Cormac and the others.
Deacon finds Gemma Caged Battered and Naked chained like a Disobedient dog , although he doesn’t want a mate his wolf is restless and wants only Gemma and the blood of Damian,Gemma and Shaun’s Kidnapper.
And he will stop at nothing till he gets what he wants.
Gemma Has put up her walls and doesn’t want to acknowledge what went down with Damian Everyone treats her like she’s broken and damaged everyone but her sisters Mate Shaun’s asshole brother deacon.
He refuses to treat her like broken glass instead he takes every opportunity to show her that she’s still the strong sassy sexy woman he knows , and he’s breaking down her walls and she can no longer deny the chemistry between them .
But with new dangers and secrets being brought to light how will the pack cope .

This book was amazing I love the characters so much and I seriously can’t wait to read Cormac’s story.

L. Ann did it, the second book is better than the first.

Deacon is a super hot wolf and a super asshole, or so everyone thinks. Deacon feels very deeply about his pack and his brothers. He doesn’t feel the same driving force to mate and settle down like the other wolves in his pack, but his feelings are supercharged whe he meets and rescues Gemma from a Hunter sect.

Gemma is such a strong character, what was done to her was horrendous but with the love of a super asshole wolf she overcomes and thrives in her new pack.

This is such an awesome shifter / werewolf paranormal romance and it is so worth the read. This trilogy is beyond good and I know the twins are great but I cannot wait to read Big Brother Mac’s story.

I was sent this ARC by the author in exchange for a spoiler free honest review.

This is the second book in the Midnight Pack series. It tells Deacon and Gemma's story and is a continuation of events in Midnight Touch, the first book (which you should also read).
Here, we get a deeper involvement in the story and some all important insight into the reasons behind the villain's targeting of the Midnight Pack. What is fueling all that hatred? The twists will take your breath away and have you on the edge of your seat with excitement and anticipation. We're also given a few clues about the Alpha of the pack and his story which is still to come.
L. Ann carries us off into a place where reality dances around the edges of fantasy beautifully. Her words flow, her characters are flawed in all the right ways and their chemistry leaps off the page at you.
A must read for the paranormal romance reader who prefers shifters with brains as well as brawn.

Still trying to recover from her capture, Gemma finds herself in the middle of a pack of shifter wolves who treat her like damaged goods. All except Deacon. Can he help her through her troubles?

I’m just going to say that Deacon is my favorite. He doesn’t take anyone’s crap and has no issue calling people out for their deeds and words. Gemma is fiery and doesn’t take Deacons crap. They work so well together and I am here for the back and forth. The way he is able to help her through his trauma is perfect.

As the story goes on we find out more and more things that I am sure will lead into the other books. The way the author plants these seeds always has me trying to memorize every detail to bring up later. I’m ready for the next book.

Midnight Temptation is Book 2 of the Midnight Pack series. I do recommend starting this series with Book 1 as this story picks up where that one left off.

This story was great. Lots of suspense and a few unexpected twists and turns kept me engaged right from the start. Loved the connection between Deacon and Gemma. Even though there were some tragic moments, I thought the author handled it very well and I didn't feel like it was the main focus of the story. Looking forward to Mac's story!

Deacon and Gemma have their story now. I loved how Deacon wouldn’t allow Gemma to stay hidden and helped her face the demons. Their chemistry is there through all their interactions. Deacon is HOT! You knew from book 1 that these two were so going to be a pair. Knowing that the pack will be in each book brings the reader right into it as an honorary member. Learning more about the Hunters with this story, seeing Cormac with his Alpha in command when needed, getting their Trifecta in action...all make for another great read.

This book follows on from the end of book one as Shaun and gemma are rescued.
Gemma's suffering and guilt at the hands of Damien is building walls which Deacon is determined to break down with his assholeness and bad funny jokes. I loved this book. It is the second book in the Midnight Pack series. I love the sassy and sarcastic way Gemma and Deacon talk to each other.
Deacon is trying to help Gemma get over her trauma. She just deflects by either running away or using biting sarcasm and sassiness.
I really can’t wait for the next book in the series, I need to find out what happens next. The book kinda ended on a cliffhanger.

2nd book of a series from a new-to-me author that I just found. I’m really enjoying the story telling. The over all arc is intriguing. The characters are layered and flawed — which I love. These books are not just about true-mates finding each other and a HEA. They’re grittier and different in a good way. If you like shifter romances, do give this series a try. Though each book is about a different couple, it’s best to read them in series order. Because events from book 1 continue in book 2.
