She's a surgeon. He's a firefighter. And September 11th brought them together after fifteen years.
Giselle Reeves, a successful surgeon, is given a once in a lifetime opportunity to move abroad and ultimately change the face of medicine. But when a terrorist attack strikes New York City on September 11th, Giselle finds her first love, who she hasn’t seen in fifteen years, laying on her operating table. She never got over the wrench of leaving him when they were teenagers. But now, as they finally reunite, will their rekindled love be strong enough to withstand her leaving again?
When Giselle finally met her best friend, Steven, after fifteen years, she was afraid to talk to him in case he was not the sweet guy he used to be and her memories might get tarnished… It is not often I read about a romance including life after death and how the people resurrected. This was a sweet, short story with an uncommon and interesting plot.
While I really liked the characters and the situations they were in, I just couldn’t accept the “paradise on earth” aspect. Near the end, I couldn’t tell was real or not -too confusing. Clearly this is a second chance story with strong inspirational undertones.
Good read but got a little confusing at the end. So wish it was a little longer so the whole concept could have been a little clearer. Very emotional too.
Very emotional for me she was a giver. So was her best friend. But losing her mom caused a long distance move. So many neat things happened in this story. But the best was her faith in God and fear helping ways to make a difference
I picked this book up free, thinking it was a short, clean romance. And it was...kind of. It was about a surgeon who met up with her best friend after 15 years, during the 9/11 disaster, when he became her patient. After reuniting and sharing their years of emptiness their love flourished. And then I don't know what happened...the opening flashback returned and there was a resurrection and I think the book turned religious on me. Confused.
I was immediately hooked and intrigued right from the beginning. Giselle wakes up on an island and is looking for Steven. How did she end up there if she lived in the city? That’s what kept me reading. The story goes back to Giselle and Steven and how they reunite after fifteen years. Their love is realistic and endearing, the writing is clear and easy to read. I loved Giselle’s character, and also her best friend Andrea—she was funny. The scene from 9/11 is not at all graphic. It’s entirely focused on the characters and not so much on the heart-wrenching catastrophe. But what blew me away the most was the ending to this story. How Giselle ended up on the island... I did not see that coming. If you like plot twists and being surprised at the end, this is the story for you. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommend it.
This was an amazing story that I could not put down. Another entertaining book from Jessie Cal. I loved Giselle and Steven and the romance they shared. They first meet when they're young, but when her mother dies, her father moves them to New York, hence why they're ripped apart. But then fifteen years later, when 9/11 happens, Giselle now a surgeon finds Steven on her operating table. Not only does she save his life, but she steals his heart. They rekindle their feelings for each other and together they are so adorable. I wish this was made into a movie. And boy, the ending blew me away! I did not see that coming. This author sure likes plot twists. Brilliantly done. It's one of those stories that you don't want to stop reading and the characters are ones that you wish you really knew. Jessie Cal is one of my favorites authors, always a must-read. Bravo!
I absolutely LOVED this book! It was adorable from beginning to end. And what a surprising twist at the end. I did not see that coming! I have noticed this author likes twists. It seems to be in all of her books so far, and I really have been enjoying her writing style as well as her well-thought-out plots. This book was a page-turner for me, the action was fun to read, and the romance was spot on. I would highly recommend this book in particular to anyone who enjoys contemporary romance with a dash of faith. Way to go.
Short story, sweet romance by a new to me author. Likeable characters who have suffered loss and hurt. This is Steven and Giselle's story and it was easy to get to know them. They both have dreams and are best friends until fate draws them apart. They never forgot each other and when a chance happening due to 9/11 brings them together they get another shot at the lives they've dreamed of, or do they? Unexpected ending that does bring closure, even if it brings in another dimension. I look forward to reading more books by this author.
Jessie Cal has a way of weaving a story that will suck you in. Before you even realize it you're on the last page! And. Your. Mind. Is. Blown. Loved everything about this heartwarming story. The ending was very surprising to me, but I liked it. It was an angle I've never thought about, but what a beautiful twist to a future hope. Highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a clean romance with a dash of faith.
Hmm, not quite sure what to think. I thought it was a clean romance. The story line jumped back and forth in time, without really telling the reader where...or when. Then there’s the paradise on earth with people being resurrected at different times. Strange concept, and not what I was expecting. I don’t mean to offend others’ beliefs.
I enjoyed this beautiful story of a young couple who were reunited in paradise along with other family members and friends who had gone on before. I didn't understand what was really happening until I read it twice. It is a beautiful concept of what happens after death. I recommend it.
It couldn't decide what kind of story to be. After the ending, the author explains that she wrote this story for a friend(s) who were dying with cancer and were having a hard time preparing to separate from loved ones. However, the book was blurbed as a romance with 911 in the background. And the story tried to be both and I was very confused.
The blurb inside this book said it was clean. It may have been clean sexually but it certainly isn’t otherwise. This book contains blasphemy. I found It forms a regular part of the general speech pattern after only a few pages. Just nope. Some authours don’t know what clean means obviously.
It was fairly interesting and an enjoyable read, but the ending was rather odd. There’s a paradise on earth, and people are resurrected at very random times and intervals from death (which is basically a long sleep).
This definately is a different take on death. I don't agree with the author on her take of it & goes against what I believe. It is an interesting read, captivating, a page-turner to the end.
I just couldn't get into the author's writing style; I found it boring and flat despite all the detail used. I typically love a friend to lovers - second chance trope but I couldn't get past 36%.
