Prepare to be amazed as readers are taken into the world of the sea. Explore all of the ocean’s infamous beauties within its salt marshes, rock pools, coral reefs, kelp forests, coastlines, and more. Readers will take awe at the bioluminescence creatures in the dark, or the eerie deep ocean monsters, while the dancing dolphins and mighty whales and sharks cruise through their pages. Exploring life within the illustrious seas is paired with beautiful sketch-type illustrations showcasing an abundance of knowledge, and fascinating facts.

Beautiful middle-grade book with amazing art and lots of facts but, sadly, only one page about plastic pollution and nothing about how we all can pitch in to use less plastic in the first place. Instead, "Governments worldwide are introducing bans and levies on plastic bags and bottles, discouraging their use and encouraging people to find cleaner, greener alternatives to fight this tide of plastic and clean up the oceans for future generations."

Adding even one page of how we can help by not using so much plastic in the first place would have made this an excellent book rather than one that feels like it uplifts the oceans, then, as an aside, talks about how polluted they are and makes it seem like our governments have this under control.

As a book geared toward the educational marketplace, in addition to teaching about the wonderful sea creatures, it should also teach kids how to preserve this vital resource by not to using single-use items and so forth.

Zone by zone, and many places besides, are explored in this book. Each location is given a two page spread, and on those two pages are artistic renderings, in colored pencil, paint and watercolor, of what that part of the ocean looks like, as well as what the animals that reside in it look like.

In addition to traditional ocean zones such as the Arctic, the Deep Ocean and Coral Reefs, this book also examines places like Salt Marshes, Estuaries and Tide Pools. In Each location between three and five items, be they animals or features of that location, have small paragraphs devoted to them. The animals and their characteristics are described.

In certain cases animals such as the blue whale, and polar bears, have sections devoted to just them.

This book would be a great tool for elementary research, or an intriguing book to browse.

This book is packed full of information! You may look at it and think it’s a picture book, but it is a nonfiction book that is best read in multiple sessions. It gives tidbits of information on lots of different ocean animals. The illustrations are beautiful!!
