In Cats in the My FANGtastically Evil Vampire Pet , the third in the spin-off series to Mo O'Hara's New York Times bestselling My Big Fat Zombie Goldfish chapter books, an aspiring evil scientist and his mostly evil (and totally forbidden) vampire kitten must face a trap-filled Volcanic Lair at Evil Scientist Summer Camp.

Welcome back to Camp Mwhaaa-haa-ha-a-watha!

My epic summer at Evil Scientist Summer Camp hasn't gone quite like I planned, but THIS week I will DEFINITELY be Evil Emperor of the Camp. I've been stocking up on evil inventions and Fang's been sharpening her claws. We're ready for anything!

Okay, so maybe I wasn't really prepared to find out that Geeky Girl's grandmother is actually Madame Mako, inventor of the original volcano lair, and ruler of the most famous evil empire ever . . . but, this is going to be GREAT . Geeky Girl can inherit her grandmother's empire, and I'll come in as Head Partner, and help teach her the best way to be an evil ruler―with an epically evil crown!

Let our Epic Evil Empire begin!

Signed,
The Great and Powerful Mark

"Originally from America, I moved to London because I wanted to live abroad but spoke no foreign languages. After a brief and unsuccessful stint as a serving wench at the Tower of London I found work as an actress and comedy performer. I’ve perfomed regularly at Edinburgh and London comedy festivals. A few years back I got a job touring around the UK as a storyteller and that’s when I discovered that kids liked, laughed at and didn’t fall asleep when I performed stuff that I wrote myself. I was hooked on writing and performing for kids..."

Another fangtastic adventure at Camp Mwhaaa-haa-ha-a-watha.

I've read this series a bit out of order as my library no longer has the second book (rip, lost library books), so I'm reading this one before getting a copy of book 2. However, while it's probably helpful to read them in order, each adventure is self-contained and can be read on its own while still being enjoyable.

Things heat up (literally) in the series when Geeky Girl's grandmother, the evil Madame Mako drops in as the camp's celebrity guest, along with her volcano lair. The campers are challenged with an evil task in the hopes of taking over Madame Mako's evil empire.

A very fun and engaging read that builds off the previous stories, while still having a unique plot of its own. Friendships develop, contraband pets stay hidden, and the characters figure out what it means to be evil for each of them.

Humorous, adventurous, and fun. A great continuation of the series. Will be reading book 4 next then hoping to track down a copy of the second book. Perfect for fans of the My Big Fat Zombie Goldfish series with its own unique and evil spin.

Mark is back, and still trying to prove himself while spending the summer at the Evil Scientist Summer Camp. But he hasn't been crowned emperor yet, and he and Igor, his roommate, must keep the camp counselors from finding Fang, his vampire kitten, who has accompanied them. Mark is thrilled to learn that Geeky Girl, his girlfriend, is the granddaughter of Madame Mako, who visits the camp and wants to leave her evil empire to her descendant. But Geeky Girl isn't all that evil or interested in ruling the empire. It's up to Mark to prove himself up to the task and change Madame Mako's dismissive attitude toward him as merely one of the henchman as well as learning to accept Geeky Girl on her own terms. There's plenty of action and courageous acts provided by Boris, Geeky Girl's pet, Fang, and a Komodo dragon looking for love, acceptance, and a little tenderness, but there is not a zombie goldfish to be found. Fans of the original series will continue to find value in reading this spin-off.

I'm going ahead and giving this 4 stars because of the ending bit. Mark and Geeky Girl working together, surfing down the side of an erupting volcano, , it was all pretty cool, and kept with the "evil, but not cruel or mean" vibe the series has.
