StormProof: Weathering Life's Tough Times

Rate this book
Go “storm chasing” through the pages of the greatest Book ever written! What storm has blown into your circumstances? Are you—or someone you love—suffering from the trauma of plans that have been washed away, relationships that have been uprooted, or security that has been devastated? Many believers have been known to ask, “God, where are You in this storm?” or, “Lord, did You send this storm into my life?” Just what does a believer do during a stormy season? Weathering Life’s Tough Times tackles these and other tumultuous questions. Author Carol McLeod is a storm survivor—more than that, a victor—over infertility, depression, and cancer. She understands the spiritual, emotional, and physical challenges of the trials we face in our lives. A gifted Bible teacher, she provides “life preservers” of hope and faith through the eternal, practical wisdom found only in God’s Word. By examining key storms in the Bible, and the lives of those affected by them, Carol guides you to uncommon comfort for your own storms, offering the shelter of hope, joy, and faith. In StormProof, you will step out of the boat to walk the waves with Peter, knowing that Jesus always comes to be with you in the midst of your storms; you will be rocked aboard a wind-driven ship with the apostle Paul, in danger of being smashed against the rocks, but be preserved by God’s power; you will watch the gathering storm clouds with Noah, holding on to faith in God’s purposes. You will also experience Jonah’s self-inflicted tempest while affirming God’s unconditional love, sit in silence with Job and ponder his questions about the greatest storm of testing, and huddle with the disciples as their boat is swamped by surging waves—only to hear Jesus’s eternal words, “Peace, be still.” You will also hear about storms of harsh circumstances that others from recent history have encountered and overcome. Storms are common in every season of life. Yet, for a believer in Christ, the damage such storms cause can be contained, depending on how we navigate their tumultuous waves. There is a way—a triumphant way—to encounter the fierce gales of life and then exit the tempests with strength and resilience. There is a definitive way to walk through the most devastating of circumstantial tornadoes and emerge with grace, empowered for the future. There is a way to be StormProof.

"Storm Proof" by Carol McLeod is a book thats takes key storms that are in the Bible and compares them to our lives and how we can we can be storm proof. I have truly learned from reading this book, I have unlined lots of quotes and I have shared quotes from this book on face book.

The things I learned are; we are to put out 4 anchors and pray for morning like Paul when we are in a storm. These four anchors are The word of God, worship, Prayer and the Holy Spirit. The author explains why these are needed. She also explains seven things that courage is. There is also a chapter on what to do and what not to do when we or a friend is in a storm. She explains that sometimes just sitting and being kind is all we need to do as unkind words can and does bring more storms. There is also a chapter on how to be prepared before the storms comes.

I know this book is listed in the Religion/Christian life/Woman’s issues genre but I think men would gain insight from reading this book as well as women.

This is my favorite quote from the book
"One of the lies the enemy utters to a storm-tossed believer is that he or she is alone.... Abysmally forgotten and alone. The deceiver endeavors to convince a man or woman of God that no one has ever experienced their particular pain and that there is no one who is capable of understanding what they are going through. According, whenever you are in a storm, firmly remind yourself that you are not alone! You are in the excellent company of Abraham, Job, Hannah, David, Esther, and Paul and Silas. Generations of believers who come before you had to make this choice, and the generations who follow after you will look to you as their example--so sing loudly and extravagantly! Let no storm ever out-shout you!"

Some of the storms in the book are the ones that Job, Noah, Paul and Jonah endured.

The author explains the best way to be an overcomer of storms is to sing!

I encourage every one of God's children to get and read this book and be storm proof because storms will come to us all. This book really speaks to the reader.

I was given a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit. These opinions are my own.

An excellent book to read and reread. Great for a group study and for anyone in a life storm. I do enjoy McLeod’s writing and definitely a 4* book.

Great statement. “If you long to delight the heart of God, offer Him a sacrifice of praise.”
