What happens when the species' most notorious womanizer meets the woman of his dreams?
As a werewolf Alpha's daughter, Sophie Gregory was raised to understand she has two important purposes in life--to be wed and bred. When she fails at the first, she wants nothing to do with the second, even if it means spending the rest of her life alone. After fleeing a disastrous arranged marriage, she seeks shelter with a neighboring pack. There's just one problem. Her new pack is home to the handsome, roguish Remy Arsenault: serial dater and notorious womanizer. Remy makes her laugh...and her heart pound. She's not looking for commitment, but she might just be up for a fling. That's all Remy is offering, anyway, right?
Remy has a reputation for being a player, but in truth, he's ready to settle down. Too bad that's the very last thing Sophie is interested in. He will do anything to win the heart of the woman who makes his head spin with lust--including seducing her with the most delicious sex imaginable. Sophie wants a fling. But what if he's ready for so much more? To convince her he's serious this time, he might just have to pull off a small miracle.
Amy Pennza is a USA Today Bestselling Author of steamy fantasy romance. After becoming a lawyer because everyone insisted writing wasn’t a “real job,” she stubbornly wrote anyway—and is delighted to have proved them wrong. She’s grateful to spend her days crafting dirty, swoony books about magic, swords, and unforgettable characters. She lives in the Great Lakes region with her husband and five children.
I enjoyed this book so much more than book 1, Remy was sweetheart but also fierce, and Sophie didn’t let all she had been through destroy her.
I kind of felt sorry for Remy, when Max felt the need to warn Sophie that should have annoyed me to say the least, but his depiction in the last book and at the onset of this book, as well as his treatment of Sophie meant I liked him as a hero/leading man.
Sophie may be the daughter of an Alpha, but rather than being cossetted and loved, she has been used like a bartering tool, forced in to an arrange mating one that brings her nothing but pain, and when she finally escapes her father and her father-in-law arrive determined to drag her back to. The chemistry between Sophie and Remy sizzled and I swear there were moments where I could hear Remy’s lush voice speaking in French, like a gentle caress.
The drama when it came to Sophie’s mum and dad, and what her mum does, near the end, felt a tad out of place, and I do think something else should have been done. That being said I really loved how Sophie stood up to her dad.
Max, I liked more in this than in book one, as an Alpha he came across a lot better.

This is the second book in the Lux Catena series and can be read as a standalone but you'll get more enjoyment out of it by reading book one.
Sophie and Remy get their HEA even though their path is full of obstacles. There wasn't anything super exciting that made this story stand out to me and there wasn't anything atrocious that made me hate it either. It was a cute and spicy PNR.
Sophie was a decent heroine with a backbone and Remy was a changed man when he met Sophie. He was sweet and possessive. The two of them made a good pair. Overall, an OK read.
When will parents learn that choosing the wrong partner for you kids never ends well for anyone?
Overcoming ones reputation is hard even when your friends don't see the change. Remy was known to be the player in the pack but his behavior has changed onver time and none of them have noticed.
Growing up as the alpha's daughter does not allow for much independent thought or activities and when he is overbearing as Sophie's lets just if you follow his rules it is painful lesson.
This book was a descent read with having likeable characters and an interesting storyline. If you like your female leads to a feisty and determined this book is for you.
If i take the time to read a book and enjoy it them a review must follow.
This is a very well-crafted series. The author has a unique take on werewolf culture, and her world building skills are impressive. Remy and Sophie are very realistic characters with strengths and faults. Their love story is filled with obstacles to overcome and enough suspense in parts to keep you at the edge of your seat. You are going to love Remy and Sophie’s story. Maura Reviewer for Coffee Time Romance & More Full Review @ Coffee Time Romance & More
WHAT A WOLF DARES is the second book in the Lux Catena series, and we reunite with Remy (playboy) and Sophie (Alpha's daughter). These literally are the descriptions for them, not mine!
This was a well-written story that not only brings you new delights, but lets you catch up on Lizette and Max from book one too. Remy hasn't been able to get Sophie out of his mind since he last saw her, when he was taking her to meet her new husband. Sophie has kept Remy's voice in her mind as the only thing to keep her sane as she suffers her husband's abuse.
You really get an idea of how political wolf packs can be with this story, which shows clearly just what Max knows will happen once he gives Sophie sanctuary.
A thoroughly enjoyable story and a welcome return to the pack. I definitely recommend this book, and look forward to reading more.
I thought this was a perfectly adequate shifter-finds-his mate story. I didn't think there was anything to make it stand out and shine, but nor was there anything that made me grit my teeth and hate it.
I thought the writing was perfectly readable (or listenable, in my case) and I liked both of the main characters. I did think the villains were cartoonish in how vile they were and the person who came to the rescue in the end, wasn't really redeemed in my eyes for waiting 20+ years to step in. I don't believe they could have been oblivious. So, I didn't really find their sudden backbone and moral compass believable.
All in all, a good middle of the road book. The narrator did a good job with it too. It was easy to listen to. And the fact that I hadn't read book one didn't prevent me from enjoying this one.
I feel like this book was better than the first. The build up to the climax was better and the climax itself was better executed.
There were moments when I started to get frustrated but that was more with Sophie's father being a dick so openly, even going so far as to threaten his own daughter with a public bedding ceremony against her will.
I've seen a lot of terrible parents in books these last few months, ranging from just plan neglectful to be exploiting their children to downright trying to kill them. But a father willing to have his daughter be assaulted? Yeah, that takes the cake for me.
I was happy to see that Sophie's mother was actually good, though. That was a breath of fresh air. More often than not, they are either complacent, unaware, or submissive. While Sophie's mother was unaware of what she was going through, she didn't stand idly by when she discovered the truth. She took action in the best way. And the most heartbreaking.
But let's step away from the ending and I want to turn to something else I noticed with most shifter books: the "unshifter-like female." In most shifter books I've read, the male is always super extraordinary in some way and the female is not. True to form, Sophie is clumsy, not a great hunter, and not the best shifter in general. Where are the females who are just as special and strong as the males? Or stronger even? And like most shifter books, Remy is big, strong, and has a Gift with unique properties that puts him close to being overpowered, considering how he used it in the climax. They try to nerf the guys by putting a limit of some kind of the males but I've also seen males that ignore those limits. Remy does have his limits in terms of the burnout but even he stated he hadn't had one since he was a teenager before the events at the beginning of the book.
I'm not saying these traits are bad but having a shifter female be clumsy and awkward when the whole point of shifters is that they are not those things, it kind of ruins the feel for me. Shifter books are still my favorite simply because you can be as wild as you want with the characters and the world and just claim it's their animal that makes them so. It also gives the males an excuse to be super possessive toward their females and vise versa. But I would love to see a book or series where the female is not as clumsy and awkward as a human and can hold her own in a fight. I've seen very few of these and would love suggestions.
But before that, I'm going to continue on to the next book: What a Wolf Demands. It will be about Dom and I am excited to find out more about him. More of his past was hinted at in this book and shed a bit of light on his and Remy's relationship. I'm hoping this one will answer any lingering questions I have. But there's only one way to find out.
What a Wolf Dares Lux Catena, Book 2 By: Amy Pennza Narrated by: Sophie James
This is a great PNR, it is well written and well told with interesting storylines that are engrossing from start to end. I enjoyed Amy Pennza’s writing style, she grabbed my attention right from the story. She creates an imaginative world where shifters live in packs and claim their territories. I liked the world dynamics of these shifters, the Alpha rules and each territory lives by the beliefs they choose to follow, old school or new. Sophie's father was not happy to have a daughter he wanted a son to follow his footsteps as Alpha leader. So he used Sophie as a bartering chip to gain power, setting up an arranged marriage with neighboring shifters, the son of the Alpha of that territory. Unfortunately that shifter is abusive and Sophie refuses to complete the mating ritual with him. Remy met Sophie when she was on her way to her new husband to be. The two clicked, he sensed her unhappiness and tried to cheer her up and encourage her. He is a telepath and was able to communicate with her thru her mind. Even after they handed her over to her new pack he could not get her out of his head, he also lost his man-whoring ways, finding no interest in other women. Then he hears her calls for help telepathically and he searches to find her, when found she was severely injured, she ran away from her abuser. He takes her back to his cabin and vows to protect her and not allow her to go back. She has other plans though. I loved how their story played out, there is never a dull moment, there’s plenty of drama, twists, some angst and heartfelt emotions as well hot romance. I highly recommend this fast paced story, it can be enjoyed as a stand-alone. Amy Pennza, thank you for this great story and the emotional rollercoaster ride.
I listened to the Audible edition, Sophie James is a terrific narrator and voice performer. She brings these characters to life, gives each their own voice and personality, as well as heart and attitude. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to.
Entertaining wolf shifter romance. I liked that the shifters have other abilities too; like super speed or telepathy.
The narrator did a good job. A clear, solid performance and she had a nice tone to her voice.
Sophie has been forced into an arranged bonding, but before it can fully be completed, she runaways because her intended abuses her. It’s kind of weird because they got married, but not fully. It’s like having the ceremony, but not signing the marriage certificate. Sophie runs to Remy’s pack for help, but the archaic wolf laws cause problems; men who like to keep women down and subservient. These wolf females really need to put those jerks in their place!
Sophie and Remy met before her “marriage” and had a connection, but obviously they couldn’t do anything about it. They have a mental link since Remy is a telepath, which connects them even further. Lots of danger from not only Sophie’s old pack, but that of her abusive “husband”.
Also, Remy doesn’t exactly have the best reputation. Remy has a reputation for being a manwhore, so he’s not taken very seriously, and telepaths are looked on as weaker. It’s to be expected that there will be negative talk when you sleep around, so no one is thinking much of Remy intentions towards Sophie; not even her.
I liked Sophie; I do wish she were a little stronger, but I suppose that has to do with her upbringing. Remy is a sweetheart and I love how protective he is. I didn’t like that whole scenario where he has taken multiple women to get styles; that was just weird, but I really appreciated that it seemed like he hadn’t been with anyone else since he met Sophie. They have some great chemistry and passion. Some hot stuff! The story flows nicely and there’s a bit of action; which I always enjoy, so overall, a entertaining read. I haven’t read the first book, so I’ll have to check that out next! This can be read as a standalone, but does have some storyline with the characters from the previous book.
A chance encounter between Remy and Sophie is all it took for a spark to start…but she is on the way to her arranged marriage. She is scared and unsure and Remy is there is comfort her. Little do they both know, or actually Sophie had a pretty good idea what she was walking into, she would not be fine and she would end of fleeing from her abusive ‘husband’ a short time later.
Fate has her ending up in the arms of Remy, who nurses her back to health and helps her recovers from the physical and emotional scars. Until she can’t hide anymore because her father and father-in-law have come to drag her back.
Poor poor Sophie. Man, she had it rough. Her mother in her ear about her weight and appearance. Her father disappointed because she isn’t a stronger, faster wolf and forcers her into an arranged marriage with someone she is scared of! Then her husband abuses her to pressure her into completing the pax cantena! Geesh.
And then Remy, who has been told that no one wants a son, let al
But with Sophie it’s different. I loved that they weren’t ‘dated mates’ per se. There wasn’t a strong pull, even if there was definitely a strong connection in play. But they CHOSE each other and that was awesome considering their past experiences. There was drama, danger, lust and angst and I Ate. It. Up. Remy and Sophie might be my favorite book in the series…even over Max and Lisette!
This is book 2 in this very interesting series, like book 1, it is full of intrigue and passion.
Sophie Gregory is the daughter of a very powerful and biast alpha, his only goal is to unite 2 powerful packs by arranging Sophie's marriage to the other alpha's son. On the day that Sophie is to be delivered to her soon to be husband she meets the infamous Remy Arsenout who is one of the Hunters charged with the deliverance of the bride. Sophie has an instant attraction to Remy and then she hears him in her head and that seals the deal. Problem is she only has a little while until she is delivered to the man that will make her run into the arms of the rake Remy.
Remy Arsenout is a Hunter with a Gift that most were's frown upon Telepathy and now his ability has grown to a point where he can speak into the minds of those without telepathy. When he sets eyes on the she wolf he is tasked with turning over to another man, he uses his Gift to soothe the girls troubled mind, but she's not the only one he wishes to soothe. He also wishes to calm his wolf and himself from the desire to wisk her away.
I can't wait to read the powerful and mysterious Dom's story.
Smart and sexy wolf shifter PNR What A Wolf Dares by Amy Penza is a well written paranormal wolf shifter romance. This book sheds light on this paranormal society and more of its faults. Remy and Sophie have more in common than either understands at first, but it’s abundantly clear to the reader. I love these characters independently and together. Remy comes off as a player, but he is kind hearted and warm, protective and alpha in his own right. Sophie is strong willed, beautiful, sweet, courageous and perfect for Remy. The plot of this book, Book 2 of the Lux Catena Series, is engaging, suspenseful and attention grabbing. I did not want to stop turning pages! Between the urgency of Sophie’s predicament and the budding relationship between her and Remy, it was imperative I finished reading this book. Overall a very well written, enjoyable, romantic and steamy book. I read an ARC of this book and voluntarily share my review.
Book 2 in the series. It’s a great listen just like book 1 was . Book 2 has lots of action and twists and turns . It’s story will have you loving it . This one involves an Alphas daughter with a rival Alpha . Heroine is Sophie. Hero Remy. Sophie runs away from her pack because as a little girl she was drilled that the females in the pack only have 2 purpose in life , get married and have little pups . Sophie says no to the arrange marriage , so she runs away . Little does she know she will end up in a rival pack . The alpha in the rival pack is Remy . Remy always shows himself as an Alpha who makes his round with the women . But he wants to settle down . He knows that for sure once he sees Sophie. Thing is he needs to convince Sophie that they were meant to be together. Does Remy get his desire
Sophie James performance was great . Her voice is always strong, clear and smooth. She does the characters great
I found this second book quite enjoyable and I liked Remy and Sophia as a couple. Sophia a alpha's daughter is being escorted to her wedding that crosses over wolf territories. She meets Remy during one of the hand offs and they start talking by Remy's gift-Telepathy. Months later Sofia is escaping from her abusive husband Asher and along the way she gets hit by a truck. Remy hears her cry in his mind and he and Dom go to find her. Remy takes her to his place and takes care of her. Her father and her father in law come to claim her and to force her back to her husband, do they? The interaction between Remy and Sophia were touching and steamy. I liked that both grew up wishing to be loved for who they are. Overall the story was well written and kept me engross to the final page. I volunteer to read and review this ARC.
H-Remy- Max 2nd in command. A telepath & a hunter also a playboy. (Manwhore) h- Sophie- Alpha’s daughter who against her will, she will married someone out of convince of her father’s doing. Lux Cadena- chain of light- where mates were joined together for life. If one dies so will the other one. Sophie meets Remy he & Max Beta was transporting Sophie to her new husband future arrange marriage. The instantly clicked but they both knew nothing could happen between the 2 of them. A few mths passed & Sophie decides to run away from her abuser (husband) they never consummated the marriage. A few things I didn’t like: they focus a lot of HIS perfect body but on her they only focus on how “different” she was which she wasn’t thin.. This book really makes me want to read book 1- Max & Lissette’s story
Sophia and Remy are perfect for each other. And Remy is smokin' hot! I love the Frenchman in him.
Sophie escapes an abusive arranged relationship and finds protection with Remy. He thinks they can never be together because she is an Alpha's daughter and he is a Telepath wolf, which is considered weak amongst other wolves and would not be good enough for mating an Alpha's daughter. The story follows them as they try to get Sophie out of her father and her intended husband's clutches.
It's a really creative, enjoyable spin on traditional werewolf stories. The author did a great job on this one. I really enjoyed it.
I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving a free copy via Hidden Gems.
Good story. Possible triggers as deals with an abusive relationship though not detailed. Loved Remy. Despite his past there is no other woman drama. Other man drama for heroine as she is arranged to match with an Alpha from another pack but the bond was not completed. No intimate scenes with anyone other than the Hero and heroine. Breadcrumbs dropped for Dom' s story and updates on previous couple from book 1. HEA.
To me there was no cheating. The heroine is in a forces arranged mating, vows were taken but the bond as not completed as she refused to cooperate. It does refer to her as the other alphas wife and him as her husband at times but she says they are not husband and wife.
HEA Series, Standalone but read in order or you get spoilers Shifter Alpha book
Trigger warnings DV
Remy has a reputation as a playboy and his Gift means most will over look him. He's a telepath, which other wolves view as being only a step above not being able to shift. Sofia is a neighboring Alpha's daughter, sold into marriage against her will to an evil Alpha's more evil son. She refuses to finish the mating ritual and after 2 months of constant abuse manages to escape. Remy is the only wild she knows that can help her. But helping her defies his own Alpha and could instigate war with the three territories. Remy loves her but does she love him enough to risk war? Well she defy her father or give in to save Remy?
Sophie's father has arranged a mating with the son of another alpha an abusive monster. Alpha's daughter Sophie is on her way to to her arranged mating with Asher Benton the son of another alpha when she first meets Remy Arsenault. When she meets Asher and realizes he is a monster she refuses to complete the mating so he tortures and threatens her but she escapes and goes on the run. When she is hit by a truck she sends out a mental call to telepathic Shifter Remy who hears her and comes looking for her. A shifter romance to relax and enjoy.

This is a entertaining story that tell of Remy and Sophie. I enjoyed learning more about Remys gift. As well as how his gift is perceived by packs. It’s amazing how the prejudices of something/someone different is everywhere.
We get to see Lizette, Max and Haley in here. Also a bunch of other characters from Sophie’s fathers pack as well as the pack she was given to for mating. They all are nice but I enjoyed seeing Max and Lizette again.
I listened to this on audio and enjoyed Sophie James rendition of these characters. This is my second book by this author. She does a good job with the story line and making the characters fun and interesting.
I didn’t expect to love Remy as much as I did, but I do!!!! I definitely pictured him much differently than the True Blood character, but I appreciated the reference. I also LOVED how body positive Sophie’s character was in this book! Don’t get me wrong, I’m still Team Lizette, but it was a nice change to have the lead love interest be a regular sized woman AND capture the heart of a playboy all in one! The end of the parents was definitely a game changer and “seeing” Asher meet his end was definitely satisfying! No more underestimating mental toughness! On to book 3!
Oohhh this story was such a delight. I already loved Remy in the first book, so it made me so happy to finally see more of his story. And Sophie is just amazing. Everything she has been through… pfff. I am so glad she and Remy found each other.
This series feels a little different from what I am used to from Amy Pennza, but I absolutely love it. There is less spice, but it is still there, and it has everything I enjoy: a bit of slow burn, some yearning, and a strong plot. I also loved seeing glimpses of Max and Lizette again. And the fact that the next book is about Dom makes me so curious to see if I will come to love him as much. I am definitely continuing right away 🤭
The second book in the Lux Catena series a well-written story that captured my interest from the first page. Sophie Gregory and Remy Arsenault's story had me smiling at some things that happen. Sophie has been taken for granted for most of her life on her way to meet the man her Father has said she is to marry she meets Remy. Her husband to be is not a nice man so she runs. These are two underdogs that are just right for each other. I am voluntarily reviewing this book after receiving a free copy via Hidden Gems.
A well written story that will keep you reading till the end to see what happens. It is full of action, great chemistry. Sophie was raised to understand she has two important purposes in life--to be wed and bred. When she fails at the first, she wants nothing to do with the second, even if it means spending the rest of her life alone. Remy has a reputation for being a player, but in truth, he's ready to settle down. Too bad that's the very last thing Sophie is interested in.

Sophie was the Alphas daughter and is to marry another Alphas son who she didn't know and didn't like. One of her escorts was nice and put her at ease until they arrived and thoughts of him kept her going until she could escape. Remy had meet a lovely young female that called to him in a way no other had but she was to be mated to another but he couldn't get her out of his head since. This story will make you cringe and smile, with it's great story line as two people come together as they were meant to be with a few twists that will have you on the edge of your seats.
Enjoyed the shifter story of Remy and Sophie. Love the title of the series (Lux Catena) and how this book takes a different angle to approach it. I learned in book 1 of the series that although Remy is high up in the chain of command to the Alpha, he is not taken as seriously and tends to be the pack's class clown. However, this is when he sort of "grows up" bearing very adult challenges (falling in love, taking a stand, risking his life and possibly his loyalty to his alpha). Recommend it. It's an interesting context of shifters and their rules.
I didn’t read the first book (which I will remedy ASAP!). I initially thought that I had missed some major info from the first, and I may have. But as the story went on, I found myself so entranced with this story and Remy and Sophie. I loved their undeniable chemistry! I was completely engaged and really interested in the whole storyline as the politics of the wolves! I received an Advanced Reader Copy from Shifted Sheets. This is my honest opinion.
“She was her father’s daughter. A good girl. Responsible and obedient. Those things had landed her in bed with a monster, with his fangs in her back and his threats hissed in her ear.”
I feel like this quote sums up the entire quandary of the story. And for so many women living under patriarchy throughout time. The MMC is a perfect sweetheart and antidote to the pain caused by the MFC’s father and abuser. I especially liked how he defeated the bad guy.
What a Wolf Dares by Amy Pennza is an awesome story that I really loved reading very much. This is book number two in this awesome series that I really loved reading and I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about shifters.

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book. This is another really good, entertaining Book from Amy Pennza. “What a Wolf Dares” has a very enjoyable and well written storyline. The great chemistry and interaction between the interesting characters kept me engrossed till the end. This is an intriguing, engaging Must Read Book that I really enjoyed reading.
