I’m not gonna lie as soon as I started it those giddy butterfly feelings took over my stomach, I love stories like this, childhood friendships that turn into so much more are my weakness. And in true Ella fashion she did this genre justice, get ready for your world to implode!! This review is going to be as spoiler free as I can make it.
Their friendship goes way back before time, their mothers were best friends, then they raised their two kids solidifying their friendship even more. But that changed when Peggy was ten years old when her mother walked away from her father taking Peggy with her, and they left their old life behind. Their life then went from rags to riches in the blink of an eye. From mansions to three bedroom cottages and ball gowns to Chucks and worn denim. Two mother’s friendship severed forever. But that’s not the case for Peggy and Dash. Their friendship stayed strong.
Peggy never wanted to be friends with Dash but he had other ideas and in Preschool he made it clear that she would be his friend and that was the end of that. His idea back then of cementing it was by tipping cold water over her head and declaring that they were now friends even though she tried fruitlessly telling him that they weren’t. But over the years it was a losing battle, he kind of grew on her, and was hard to shake. In other words he was kind of like a brother she never wanted.
Dashiell Thane had been my best friend for as long as I could remember. He wouldn't have been my first choice, but then again, since he learned how to talk and use his words and that scowl as a weapon, I never really had a choice.
Now summer is nearly over and it’s back to Manila Cove Prep, near eighteen year old Peggy thought by now she would’ve experienced life a bit more, she feels like she’s missed out on so much. And that’s all because of Dash.
I'd never been kissed by anyone other than Dash, and even then, he'd only done it in the sixth grade so he could claim my first kiss.
But things are going to go all topsy turvy!! It all started with a kiss!! A kiss between friends!!
The ‘Queen of Angst’ 🙌 brought us a whole new crowd!! And she nailed it!! This one is a must read!! Dash is what makes all us readers crazy over book boyfriends!! All the feels, all the angst, High school drama at its best!! And the hot boys we love to claim!! This book had it all.
The hero and heroine were perfectly imperfect together, the secondary characters just added that extra epic factor. Easy to get into, hard to put down, inhaled it, breathed it, loved it. Childhood friends to more are my kryptonite, my go to weakness and Dash just cemented it!! !

Overall Opinion: I guess it was cute for what it was, but I'm confused now by all the 5 star ratings. If you're one of my friends that gave it 5 stars?! I'm happy you loved it! I just didn't feel it. It was kind of...meh. The drama felt OTT at times, the characters felt surface level, and it felt like a book about high schoolers for high schoolers (with descriptive sex). I also didn't like that we don't really get any development of feelings, as it just made it seem too insta for my liking. Overall, it was 3 "just okay" stars.
Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Peggy and Dash's story. They've been best friends since they were babies. Things change their senior year when Peggy makes some changes and wants to start dating and there is a popular guy willing to step up to the plate. Dash has been secretly threatening any guy that has been interested, so his world is thrown when this guy doesn't care and starts pursuing her. Peggy is super inexperienced, and Dash convinces her to "practice" with him to prepare for dating. Things are never the same for them once they cross that line from best friends to more. There is some friend and OW/OM drama, some sexy times, and a few funny scenes....and they get a HFN ending.
POV: This alternated between Peggy and Dash's POV.
Overall Pace of Story: Good. I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well.
Instalove:Kind of, because feelings were already there when we start the story.
H rating: 3 stars. Dash. I'm on the fence for him. He was pretty douchy at times, and he was also loyal and sweet (in his own way) other times.
h rating: 3.5 stars. Peggy. I liked her a little more than "just okay" but not much. I would've liked more depth into her character as well.

Heat level: Good. They have some good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Ahh, young love! Reckless, confusing, heartbreaking, wild, dramatic, passionate, and absolutely beautiful!! It's one of my favorite things to read about. Best friends to lovers is also one of my favorite tropes, so when I saw this book combined both of those things, I knew I had to put it on my tbr immediately. Who am I kidding? When I saw Ella Fields wrote a new book, I knew I had to read it as soon as humanly possible, but the fact that this was the content was a damn good bonus!
Dash and Peggy have been best friends since the day Dash demanded it when they were in preschool. He was her constant companion and protector whether she wanted it or not. Peggy reluctantly allowed it after realizing resistance was futile. Thankfully, he grew on her, and they developed a strong friendship comprised of video games, gummy candy, and Dash sneaking into Peggy's window on a regular basis.
Cocky, hot, bold, rich, and kind of an asshole, Dash is the wealthy bad boy every girl wants and plenty of them have had, but none of them are allowed the chance to keep. One and done and on to the next, Dash never gives any girl more than a good time and an orgasm or two. The only girl he's ever attached himself to in any capacity is Peggy.
It's their senior year of high school, and Peggy still wonders what her first real kiss will be like. She wants to know what it feels like to fall in love for the first time or even to have her heart broken. For some reason, it's just never happened for her, so when a boy finally shows real interest in her, she is a little nervous and self conscious over her inexperience. Dash offers to let her practice kissing on him, and that is when Peggy's relationship with her best friend begins to get really complicated. Who knew one little kiss could change everything?
Kiss and Break Up is an angsty NA romance that gave me all the feels! I predicted that would be the case before I even laid eyes on the first page though, because Ella is a master at getting every single emotion out of you no matter what kind of story she writes. She is the kind of author that rips out your heart and makes you want to thank her for it. One minute, you're throwing your kindle across the room and the next, you're hugging it to your chest with tears rolling down your face.
Dash made me swoon, want to curse him out, straight up murder him, and have his babies all in the same damn book! That shit takes talent, and this author has it in spades. I am always blown away by her work, and this was no exception.
If you're a fan of Ella Fields, cocky bad boys, the best friends to lovers trope, and/or NA romance in general, this is the book for you!

Since he pushed his way into her life and declared them the best of friends. Dash Thane was bossy, controlling, demanding, and often a brat, but he had over the years become important to her. He'd always been like a brother, but lately something had been shifting between them. She was suddenly more aware of him, and noticing more and more how beautiful he was. But this was Dash, and she could never go there.
Dash & Peggy start their senior year at Magnolia Cove Prep, and soon Peggy is getting some new male attention. Dash had always been protective of her, but he was experiencing something new that felt a whole lot like jealously. He'd known one day she would find a nice guy and and figured he'd be happy for her, but none of these guys were good enough for her. He quickly realized he wasn't ready for her to date. Then he kisses her and changes everything. Your not supposed to kiss your best friend, and your definitely not supposed to like and and want to do it again.
-You could get lost in a face like this- the high cheekbones, the feathered arches of his brows, and the masculine jaw. The dimple and his smile were an extra dose of unnecessary charm. But it was his eyes. They wouldn't just cause you to lose your way; they would haunt you until you lay trapped beneath their intensity.
As things get complicated between Dash and Peggy they are thrown into new territory that they aren't sure how to navigate. They are both confused by these new scary feelings and are soon in over their heads. It gets awkward and intense, and soon things spiral out of control as one decides they want to get out of the friend zone and the other is terrified to ruin their friendship by trying for more. Falling for your best friend could be the biggest risk of all.
-It was official. I'd fallen for my best friend, and she was breaking my black fucking heart.
-She was the one constant in my life.
This book was absolutely amazing!!! It will definitely be in my top reads for 2019! This story is a roller coaster of angst, drama, jealously, lies and betrayal, and omg my heart! My heart was melting for Dash! He's of course gorgeous on the outside, but he's so much more than a cocky jerk. He's thoughtful, loyal, and has the most beautiful heart! This is one of those stories that just completely consumes you and you can't quit thinking about.

If you follow my reviews, then it's no secret that I'm a sucker for angst. So then it really should be no surprise that I am obsessed with all things Ella Fields. The woman can write angst like no one's business, and she's not afraid to go there. She's not afraid to write raw, unapologetically real, and truly broken characters and make her readers fall head over heels in love with them each and every time!
So when I saw she's coming out with a brand new NA romance, I jumped on it like a sugar addict at a cake factory. Yes I know that's not a phrase, but just go with me here.
The queen of angst strikes again with Kiss and Break Up and she knocked it straight out of the park! She hit the home run of angst! I'm talking teenage angst overload here, people!!! And. It. Was. Delicious.
Dash and Peggy have known each other since they were in diapers. And they've been best friends since Dash essentially decided it so and practically bullied Peggy into it. She's never had a choice in the matter, but it's not like she minds. The guy may be rude, crude, and completely tone deaf when it comes to proprietary, but he's her best friend. Through thick and thin. And their senior year of high school definitely brings a change in their comfortable dynamic.
Peggy is a bit of a late bloomer. But with her braces off and a new haircut, suddenly she begins to see her own appeal. And with that appeal, she wants to experience dating like all girls her age have already done. But when a cute boy asks her out, she realizes that her inexperience is a crutch that she needs to get rid off. And in comes her knight in tarnished armor, Dash, with an offer she can't refuse; practice with him.
Now, suddenly, the lines get blurred. Years of friendship begin to get lost behind repressed feelings, unexpected connections, and a bit of unrequited love. In a word? ANGST!!! All of the sweet, delicious angst.
Dash is a character that you will love to hate and hate to love. He's far from perfect and he makes plenty of mistakes. As hard as you want to hate him for the decisions he makes sometimes, you also can't help but fall for him anyway. Peggy was the perfect balance for him. She accepts him in all his imperfect glory, but she also doesn't take any of his shit. I loved the dynamic of the guy pining after the girl who takes a while to truly understand her feelings for him. It's a refreshing change of pace.
There's several secondary characters that are introduced, that I'm practically salivating for a book for. The set up for their books is utterly delicious. I have zero chill with getting my grubby little hands on their stories.
As for this one? I DEVOURED it. I'm talking binge read, people! Binge. Read. I loved every maddening, frustrating, and emotional page of it. I couldn't set it down for even a second. It was infuriating and completely unputdownable. It was everything I've come to expect from the immensely talented Emma Fields, and so much more! A huge rec for all my fellow angst lovers! My one quibble was I wished for a little more development and character fleshing out. I didn't have an issue connecting with either Dash or Peggy, but I did feel like I was getting to know them on more of a surface level rather than a true deep dive.

For those of you that know me and has followed my reviews for the last few years, there is no need to get your eyes checked. Yes that is a five star rating, no I’m not drunk(anymore), my account has not been hacked, and as far as I know, I’m not coming down with the flu or any type of other illness that may inhibit my judgment. I simply and wholeheartedly LOVED this book and when you’ve read something that literally gave you all of the feels and highs of emotional turmoil, that to me?... Is nothing but perfection.
Best friends since they could walk, Dash and Peggy has maintained a friendship that has stood the test of time despite their parents own. Now high school Seniors, they’re both looking forward to their final year and making it a memorable one. Dash is arrogant, cocky, knows exactly what he wants and his main goal in life is to protect his best friend from anything that he deems a heartbreak hazard. But for their final year things are about to change drastically and when it’s all over, a lifelong friendship will never be the same.
I’m going to be honest right now and tell you that you couldn’t pay me enough to go back to high school in this time. Cold hard cash, black platinum credit card, my answer will still be a very generous f**k no. Been there, done that and I didn’t go to jail so I’m a winner. But reading about them in fictional books? I’m all for it and I was so excited to start this one because this author always brings her A game. Dash was the kind of Hero that from the moment he opened his mouth, this happened:
I have no words for that man. I didn’t know if I wanted to smack him or just give him a hug. He was honest to a fault, passionate, and I loved that you always knew where he stood. His relationship with Peggy was like watching a once in a lifetime love story. You know that there is going to be heartbreak and betrayal but the beauty and the pure raw love is what’s going to get you through and for that, the ride is going to be worth it.
I was not expecting was to feel so much for these characters and literally feel the warmth in my chest from their vulnerability and seeing the love and emotions pour out of them. These were two characters that went through everything together and I wanted nothing more than to see them come out on top. They caused each other’s pain with their words, became a constant reminder of the what if’s, shattered each other’s trust, but loved each other with a passion beyond this lifetime.
If you’re a fan of New Adult romance, this is THE book to read for the year!!

It’s been a while since I’ve dove into an Ella Fields book and damn I forget how badly I love her writing and stories.
To put it simply, read this book. Childhood friends to more. And so much in between. Hands down one of my favorites this year. I totally got swept up in this one. You’ll fall for Dash in a heartbeat and Peggy just makes it that much better. Without giving anything away, a total recommend from me to all you romance lovers

I don’t know it was just...
Meh
-The story was so not original!
-There wasn’t a single different thing that would make this book stand out.
-I couldn’t give a damn about both characters. Didn’t care about them at all!
-Peggy was a naive stupid indecisive brat who annoyed the hell out of me
-Dash was an insensitive pushy jerk. I thought he has potential, that I might like him, but nah he’s just a jerk! He was too overbearing! Like hey slow down dude!!
-There wasn’t this nice slow burn that always seems to be there in many friends to lovers books. It felt like one day they woke up and decided like “oh we should be in love now” it was just to fast for me
-Unnecessary drama!
-The book felt like running in circle! So repetitive!

-Dash was an insensitive pushy jerk. I thought he has potential, that I might like him, but nah he’s just a jerk! He was too overbearing! Like hey slow down dude!!
-There wasn’t this nice slow burn that always seems to be there in many friends to lovers books. It felt like one day they woke up and decided like “oh we should be in love now” it was just to fast for me
-Unnecessary drama!
-The book felt like running in circle! So repetitive!

Ahhh. The delicious teenage/high school angst. I ate it up. Licked the plate and all. Dashiell you hot, yummy and crass boy. He was the perfect jerk and alpha. He could definitely turn on his asshole behavior when he wanted to but it wasn’t too much. Nope. It was just right. As hurtful as he could be towards Peggy he made up for it with his determining groveling. Groveling is my cat nip and Dash ticked all my boxes!
Peggy and Dashiell has known each other since they were babies and are best friends. Peggy was a great heroine but she pushed my buttons a few times but it was all because of Dash and his behavior so I couldn’t really blame her;) They had a great and easy going friendship and I enjoyed the little flashbacks of their childhood to how Dash came to be such an important fixture in her life. The progression from friendship into what could be love wasn’t easy for the two of them. It’s young love and lust when it’s best and worst. Decisions are made and not all of them are right. They come with a price and often a broken heart.
The Magnolia Cove cast besides Peggy and Dash were fabulous. I’m so invested in Daphne, Lars, Willa and Jackson. I need more from these characters. More Magnolia Cove, please. I don’t care who’s book is first. I’m waiting.

This was absolutely amazing, my heart is so full of emotions!I was aching,melting and swooning all the time!It was an amazing story.Ella Fields delivers a captivating,angsty,emotional,steamy romance with the great amount of drama!
Dash and Peggy stole my heart!I could feel everything these to were going through, the emotions,the intensity and the angst between them!I simply adored them and couldn't get enough of these two!
Kiss and Break Up is an incredible story, with so many feelings and an epic romance with enough drama to keep your interest!

lol my reading taste has changed IMMENSELY so yeah i didn't like this. h walks in on H having sex with OW after he told her he loved her... yeah no. i guess i liked this back then cuz of the grovelling but it's ok for my standards nowadays.

Definitely not safe but I still enjoyed it and maybe its cuz I was in the mood for petty, teenage drama and this book had lots of it.
There’s a lot of OM drama and emotional, and a little bit of physical cheating here since h, Peggy, was dating someone while falling for her best friend Dash.
The OW drama was kind of minimal but it still frustrated me cuz H slept with h’s bf’s ex gf and h catches them during the act. It was pretty horrible.
He did this right after he said ily to the h and practically begged her to end things with OM but hours later she was making out with OM and H later found out and was heartbroken...Yeah, it’s kinda complicated.
But I get it. She was confused and scared to ruin their friendship but at least she ended things tho cuz she finally realized she was in love with her best friend. Doesn’t mean it still frustrated me tho.
Only reason why I tolerated the OW drama is because of the grovelling.
The grovelling here was actually so freaking good that I was pretty satisfied. Don’t get me wrong, what the H did was disgusting and unforgivable but I like how he never made excuses for his actions. He knew what he did was wrong and tried to do everything to make things right.
His grovelling was actually pretty sweet and he didn’t demand for h's forgiveness.
I also like how the h didn’t forgive him so easily and made him work for it. This went on for a pretty long time actually and I was all for it.
And despite what he did, I actually liked Dash?? He was pretty funny and honestly, this whole drama is just so complicated and one big mess. Not everyone is innocent and practically everyone is in the wrong here but whatever I liked the drama and the grovelling.
Honestly, this book just made me feel blessed that I'm not in high school anymore.

It's no surprise that I love this trope. Friends that go on to become someone special. This book was so so good! It had all the things you'd want in a YA book: Drama, angst, sweet-cute adorable moments and a cast of characters that just keeps you hooked!
There was something undeniable about Dash and Peggy's bond: It was a perfect medley of exhilarating, electrifying and simply wondrous.

I think I need to break up with this author.... it was very drama llama and crass, which to be fair, is her style of writing. Sadly for me, I didn't enjoy this book very much and the romance didn't feel good, it was a pretty toxic relationship tbh.

This is a teenage/high school love story. I will say that I’m not a big fan of these just because it’s not one of my troupes I like to read. But I do love this author so I was compelled to read.
High school love involves lots of angst and more so when Peggy and Dash have known each since birth. Peggy is the sweet good girl and Dash is the rebel, bad boy. Best friends who are inseparable and love each other as friends. But more than friends is the question as both enter into their senior year of high school as different feeling begin to unfold. But jealousy and miscommunications enter into their lives and verges on breaking a forever friendship. Can friendship survive if love enter into the picture? And of course there is a cast of friends from their private high school that keeps the story entertaining and drama fueled.
If you love young love, best friends, enemies to love stories, then Kiss and Break Up will make you smile. Ella Fields is a great writer and she always instills love, heartbreak, and angst in the best way possible.

Ella Fields has once again produced an outstanding and highly addictive read. I absolutely love a great friends-to-lovers story and to be honest, it is probably my favorite trope; I can’t get enough of the anticipation of friends turning into so much more. Kiss and Break up is the quintessential angsty coming of age story that was written to perfection and took me on a journey all the way back to High School.
If you want to swoon beyond all belief by the ultimate charming bad boy, with a smart mouth and attitude to boot, then Dash is your man. He was all those things and so much more. He was the typical bad boy you hate to love, but you just can’t help yourself, because he just reels you in hook, line and sinker.

I utterly adored this story from start to finish and it positively consumed me. I just could not stop reading it even if I wanted to. I was surprised by how deeply I felt this story and I was unprepared for the chord it struck within my heart. I really fell for both Dash and Peggy and believed I was on this journey along-side them. This all-consuming epic read is a definite favorite of mine and if you love your friends-to-lovers romances, then this is a must read. I have no doubt Dash will positively melt your heart.

A messy friends to lovers YA/NA love story filled with angst galore!
Gah! This book nearly BROKE ME! Dashiell Thane has got to be the WORST hero I have ever LOVED! He was arrogant, conceited and selfish. And I mean he was SELFISH! It almost seemed he was incapable of loving anyone but himself, including the heroine. Then why oh why did my heart want to claim him as my own! Damn Ella Fields and her talent to write the most unique and flawed chracters that embed themselves into your heart!
Dasha and Peggy grew up together and have known each other since they were in diapers. Peggy just wants to have a normal high school experience, go on dates and know what it's like to have a boyfriend. While her relationship with Dash has always been platonic, he has indirectly claimed her, making all other boys keep their distance. When Byron decides to approach Peggy and ask her on a date, jealousy flares and Dash starts to realize he actually fell in love with Peggy at some point.
Does Dash act mature and just tell Peggy how he feels? Of course not! What ensues is just complete emotional toture complete with ALL the high scool drama. My poor bleeding, sadistic heart! I couldn't get enough!
Oh but when Dash gets his act together. Oh my! Heart flutters galore!
I have no idea if this is the first book in a series but I am so primed and ready for Dash and Peggy's friends' stories. It's insane how crazy I am already waiting to see if they get their books. I need more!

All it took was one book to bring my mojo back, and it's Ella Fields' Kiss and Break-Up. Angst-filled and oozing with ALL THE FEELS, this book is a MASTERPIECE! A work of art at it's finest!
Hail all the book fairies and hail to Ella Fields, I am back after months of derailed reading mojo. Frustrating right? I tell you, I was seconds away from ripping my hair out because of all I love doing, it was reading that stopped for months. Crazy! But holy goodness, I am back alive and kicking and now with a heart so full and seconds away from strangling someone and throat punching at the same time then hug so tight after. Ask me... ask me now.. and I tell you, it's all Ella Fields fault. Yes, you woman! But I love you too much and this just means one thing, you grabbed me again with your excellent writing skills coated with words and lines full of depth.

All it took was a line you would have thought used several times verbatim or not coupled with a trope that will make your eyes roll, because cliche right? But, hell no! It's Ella Fields were talking about and Kiss and Break-Up had me reading to the most uncomfortable and strangest places because I was hooked to no end. It was nothing I ever expected it to be. It has it's own taste of uniqueness and class. First few pages in and few more chapters, I already declared the book a 5 star read and it didn't changed until I hit the end. Because Hola! The book was just impossible to put down down, things got interesting with every turn of the page and events, and it had me curious for what Ella is in store for us. With Peggy and Dash as the lead characters? It just pretty much sealed the deal. If only I can literally scream at the top of my lungs, I would be screaming , Bring them on Ella Fields!
Yes, one of the reason why I rooted for a book is how the story and the characters just fitted perfectly and effortlessly. Dash as one asshole-PITA, made my asshole loving heart jumped with glee. He is just my man, and I am claiming him. I even mentioned to my blog sister's I need a Dash in my life, because who wouldn't? His assholeness made me love him. His no care attitude and the over-protectiveness made me adore him even more. When he fell in love, he fell hard. And it just turned my heart into a mushy one.
"You're wrong. I've been committed to you since before we even knew what the word meant. Sex has nothing to do with this. I'd happily only fuck you for the rest of my life, because what I do best?
....That would be loving you."
*Sigh
And then Peggy. She may not be the usual heroine I rooted for but I tell you, I love her inner self to death and she's just perfect for Dash. Her neeed and want to have someone else adore her in other capacity, to be dated and all the likes, just felt so real. Even the feeling of confusion as to who really is who. Gah! Together, their interaction had me loving them even more. I love that they made me feel so young and alive just being able to read their journey. I laugh with them so hard and got so mad even harder with their actions. I was so frustrated I wanna smack some sense in them, because hell they're bunch of idiots in love! But I can't blame him, Love really is all messed up and whether we like it or not, we all had this phase in our lives. Talk about real thing, eh? And that's why I just love these characters and their story too much and even the secondary one's had a special place in my heart. All of them played an important role in the story and well developed that it made me want to have their own stories too. The good thing was, Ella had them into Dash and Peggy's lives without dwelling too much in them yet will make you interested and adore them. Seems like they have thier own issues too I wanna be lost with. In short, all the charaters, lead and the secondary one's are compelling. They each standout with their own uniqueness and just blended perfectly. Damn! Ella will definitely make my life more colorful just because of them.
Speaking of Ella, yes... you Ella Fields, you. You know how much I love you but you made me so mad and even more in love with your writing. I can't even! I should have known you'll throw in your wicked ways through your brilliant imagination. I thought of slapping myself just to make sure if I'm reading it right but I really am, so I don't know if I'll throw my phone instead. But since it's my only reading medium, I just put in my big girl panties and just savored the angst you throw in to me. I love how it made me feel so HARD though and I am even asking for more of it. You made my reading worthy of the sleepless night I shouldn't have. You can never really do no wrong. As always you managed to draw me in with your words and perfect story line. I was intrigued how all these will play out but I should have known better. When it's coming from you, I have to expect the unexpected. You did not just deliver a wonderful story one I enjoyed reading so much but you gave me a book that made feel, because as the story progresses, the intensity of the feels progresses too. You did not just upped your game, you slayed it perfectly as well.
In totality I love this book so much. I am rating it 5 stars and hell if I wont rate it more than this if only I can. This is a book you would love reading over and over again and I will keep recommending. I know friends to lover's trope is severely used over the years, but just like I said, Ella's writing stands out because of her creative imagination and heart. She created Dash and Peggy as nothing like your usual friends turned lovers. In as much as I want to spoil you why I am saying this, I want you to read it yourself and experience again how Ella will fuck your brains out. I must admit, she did mine so damn good it was so hard to convey all my emotions into words, that all I can say is, READ THIS BOOK! You have to and you need this in your life. Get lost with Dash and Peggy then let's chat how they made you feel. Shoot me now, because even after several hours after I finished this baby, I can never forget how Dash said Peggy these words,
"If love doesn't terrify you, you're not in ,love. And if you're not in love, then what are you Peggy?"
Way to welcome me back into the book world Ella Fields! I am still reeling with all the feels from reading this new baby of yours.

Kiss and Break Up is an angst lovers dream. With teenagers making horrible decisions and acting out in the midst of heartache, this story is page after page of teen drama and gut wrenching despair.
Peggy and Dash have grown up side by side. Truly, they've been best friends since they could walk. But, as it goes, their friendship takes a turn as they enter their senior year, when an unexpected attraction begins to simmer. But as teenagers tend to do, rather than confronting their confusing feelings and voicing their fears, Peggy and Dash get caught up in a messy tumble of chaotic emotions and poor decisions when they look to other people to soothe their heartache and attempt to preserve their friendship.
What an emotional roller coaster this story was at times. I absolutely LOVED Dash. He's your quintessential rebellious teenager, with his privileged lifestyle and his bad boy tendencies. But the way he goes after what he wants while screwing up royally as he tries to deal with his feelings was both deliciously maddening and completely addictive. Peggy, while I struggled to really connect with her at times, was a character I could appreciate for her originality and her defiance. Together they make for a story full of push and pull, heartbreak and devastation and I definitely liked it a lot.
This story is so my jam. The things that send other readers running in the other direction are EXACTLY why I love Ella Fields books. In a book climate where so many people seek out "safe reads" that won't hurt too much and won't push boundaries too far, I'm the girl jumping headfirst into the stories that will shred my heart and break me into dozens of pieces. Kiss and Break Up is definitely that kind of read, the seriously "unsafe" kind of book where everything that could possibly devastate both the characters and the reader goes down before the most satisfying HEA comes together in the end. If that's your thing too, READ THIS BOOK!
