The work on Final Fantasy VIII began in 1997, just after Final Fantasy VII was completed, and the game’s development ran concurrently with that of Parasite Eve. Although Final Fantasy VII marked a genuine turning point in the series, the designers were hardly lackadaisical when it came to the eighth episode’s production and staging. In fact, they worked doubly hard to avoid disappointing fans after their adventure with Cloud. First, the decision was made to use the same console: the Sony PlayStation. Since the seventh episode was a smashing success, the major personalities who had presided over its creation were reassembled to create the new game. Thus, the team consisted of the renowned Hironobu Sakaguchi, Yoshinori Kitase (as director), Kazushige Nojima (as scriptwriter), Yûsuke Naora (as artistic director), and Tetsuya Nomura (as character designer). And, of course, the distinguished composer Nobuo Uematsu was once again chosen to create the episode’s magnificent soundtrack in its entirety.

Lectura fetiche de 5h aproximadamente.
Final Fantasy VIII está en mi TOP3 de Final Fantasy preferidos, por no decir que es mi preferido, así que era difícil que me contasen algo que no supiese. Tampoco iba con esa intención, así que ha sido un viaje a esas horas de juego por primera vez, por segunda vez.. y básicamente siempre. Esos personajes tan realistas que me enamoraron la primera vez que los vi tanto como la última también, a pesar de verlos ya más como pixeles muy bien juntados. Ese dolor de cabeza al intentar entender el argumento a medida que va abanzando. Ese Squall emo que habla más consigo mismo que con cualquiera que tenga alrededor porque tenía los huevos cuadraos. Recuperar esa Quistis que no supe apreciar la primera vez que jugué y que ahora adoro.
Se nota que es un libro hecho desde el cariño, y entre tanto hate random por este juego por tener adolescentes de protagonistas y amor aquí y allí, se agradece poder disfrutarlo con alguien que lo quiere como tu: por ser una maravilla.
La única pega que le pondría es que puede ser repetitivo, pero soy una persona que termina una serie y la vuelve a empezar 5 segundos después,en bucle infinito, así que no me quejo. Igual que no me quejo con las opiniones con las que no estoy de acuerdo, especialmente en cuanto a lo que hace referencia a los personajes más secundarios como Zell, Irvine o Selphie, y más concretamente con Seifer.
Me alegro de que esta haya sido la primera lectura terminada del año. Lo voy a tener cerca para abrazarlo fuerte, porque me ha dado unas ganas tremendas de volver a jugar al juego, pero tengo como... muchas aventuras pendientes de jugar.

Me ha encantado.
Es verdad que soy extremadamente fan de este juego porque es el primero que jugué en PS1 a los 10 años, así que se ha convertido en EL JUEGO para mí, al igual que la saga en general.
Hay muchos datos y curiosidades que desconocía y me ha encantado conocerlos. La próxima vez que juegue estaré especialmente atenta a ellos. También me ha parecido curioso todo lo relacionado con el proceso de creación del juego y personajes.
Cómo no, también he disfrutado como una enana de la narración en sí misma del juego, disco por disco de toda la narrativa, de los pasos, de todos los lugares y las acciones. Ha sido como volver a jugar aunque a marchas forzadas.
En definitiva, una lectura que me ha gustado muchísimo y que me lleva a querer leer las otras de la saga.

Gran investigación respecto a este juego tan incomprendido. Volver a visitar sus localidades, sus historias y heroes no tiene desperdicio alguno

This book has a lot of the same strengths, but also the same issues that I felt that their FFVII book had. It acts as a good companion to the game in its discussion around the development of FFVIII and the author's analysis of the themes and characters, but it falls short in its translation into English and in its summary of the story.
I'm not nearly as familiar with FFVIII's story in comparison to FFVII's, so it's possible that this book held similar inaccuracies in its summary of the story, but nothing glaring stood out to me. I was more put off by the author's focus on the romance in the game, but at least it makes more sense in FFVIII's case, even if it personally wasn't to my taste.

Having just started playing through Final Fantasy VIII remastered it seemed a perfect time to start Rémi Lopez's The Legend of Final Fantasy VIII as a companion piece. The book contains a combination of the game's story, character information, information about the making of the game, and also touches on things like the biggest fan theories surrounding FFVIII. There's even a section about the game's musical legacy, most of which I had no idea about. While unofficial, the publishers have taken great care to keep the design of the book with the aesthetic of the iconic game cover as well as the official Ultimania books published by Square Enix.
I had a few issues with it, notably the lack of any game screenshots or artwork is a real shame, especially in the parts where things such as character or environment design is mentioned, the writing is quite repetitive (perhaps more an issue with the English translation), and despite covering a wide range of topics and themes from the game, most of it feels like the author is only scratching the surface. Also bear in mind that a few years have passed since the book's publication, so it's quite interesting in hindsight reading the author's thoughts on the game's legacy considering at the time, it looked set to remain the only game in the series without a remake or remaster.
I mentioned the Ultimania collection above - these are also referred to several times in The Legend of Final Fantasy VIII and it's perhaps fair to say that The Legend of Final Fantasy VIII serves as a miscellany of game facts and lore. I'd recommend reading it alongside a playthrough of the game, the FFVIII Ultimania book, or both, but it does work as a standalone book as well. I've read similar fan-made books about other movies/games and felt dissatisfied, but this is one of the more interesting ones. Definitely one for the fans, by the fans, and it's a nice addition to any Final Fantasy collection.

Final Fantasy VIII is on of my favourite games of all time, so take my review of this with a grain of salt, cause I'm obsessed with everything FFVIII.
But man, I loved this 😭 I haven't gotten to play VIII in a long time, and this makes me want to just buy it for the systems I have now, cause I miss it. This is a fantastic deep dive on VIII, and addressed a number of things I hadn't ever clocked for myself (like how it's likely still my favourite because of the love story, etc). It's got tons of cool information about the creation of it, as much as it's small, I enjoyed the part that went over making and selling of the music for this game (cause it's fantastic. The music is my favourite thing. I got my soundtrack signed by Nobuo Uemtasu that's how much I love it). This book was like returning to a friend, a warm hug, just, UHG. So nice.
I will say, this did a little deeper of a dive in time travel than I was ready for, which really, is my fault I should have seen that coming xD. I also felt like there were a number of times that the book didn't really get into the meaning of or elaborating on something, instead of just threw out a bunch of comparisons to other games, which was nice the first few times but some of them made me a little sad that the focus wasn't on VIII anymore.
Seriously though I loved it. I'm just sad most the rest of the ones by this human aren't translated to English 😭

En general se hace divertido y es proclive a generar mucha nostalgia en cuanto se trata de la historia y personajes.
Los dos primeros capítulos muy buenos, pero lo demás sólo pafa fans acérrimos y curiosos.
Está bien organizado y escrito, aunque tampoco es memorable.
Me hubiese gustado que expandiera alguna de las teorías más populares o indicara la fuente para ir a buscar referencias.
Agregar 2 estrellas más si rayaste con este juego.

Un conjunto de copia pega de la wikipedia con conclusiones peregrinas y sinsentidos alargados durante páginas y páginas para rellenar un sacacuartos que vale más para aguantar una mesa que como lectura.
Creo que un libro para fans sólo tiene sentido si puedes aportarles algo nuevo. Este sólo vale la pena si lo jugaste una vez en su día y no sólo no te acuerdas mucho, tampoco te importa si te cuentan mandangas.

Algo menos completo que el del FFVII, pero con detalles interesantes como la creación de los personajes o la banda sonora. No es mal complemento a la experiencia del juego pero podría estar más currado.

Este libro es bastante mejor que el de la Leyenda de Final Fantasy VII. También puede ser que sea porque este es más confuso y está más dado al debate no obstante está muy bien llevado. Es un libro muy bueno.

Incredibly informative and well written guides to one of my favourite video games of all time. Can truly tell that this book is a labour of passion for the french writers.

Couldn't put this one down. FF8 was my favourite episode for a very long time and it was refreshing to re-read the story + theories. Highly recommend (For fans, of course!)

FFVII supuso una gran revolución en los videojuegos, sobre todo a nivel europeo donde apenas conocíamos la saga (el cual me incluyo), épico e imperecedero catapultado como uno de los mejores juegos jamás creados. Después de toda esa ilusión generada, las expectativas eran realmente altas en su sucesor, el cual cambió drásticamente y no todo el mundo quedó satisfecho. Tal vez, el más incomprendido de la saga.
El libro nos proporciona una visión más amplia del producto, explicando los orígenes de su universo y el poder que residía en las brujas hasta el momento actual del juego, el cual desarrolla todo el argumento hasta el final y especula sobre las teorías más interesantes que se han ido generando a lo largo del paso del tiempo. Lo cierto es que, esta entrega no hay muchos datos que hayan salido a la luz, o una recopilación tan vasta como tuvo FFVII, salvo el mencionado origen o el argumento propio del juego y ciertos datos de la creación del juego y la música, el asunto no da más de si, de hecho, hay capítulos que se extiende demasiado en las teorías conspiranoicas de los fan, dejando la sensación artificial de extender las páginas de forma superflua.
A modo personal, es un juego que en su día me maravilló, cumplió mis expectativas y junto a FFVII y X son los capítulos que más recuerdo con cariño. El libro aporta su granito de arena pero por desgracia, no llega al nivel del anterior, tal vez por los motivos anteriormente comentados. No obstante, recomendado para cualquier fan del juego.

Final Fantasy VIII es uno de los títulos que mas aprecio dentro de lo que es la saga Final Fantasy y es quizás por eso que cuido mucho el material que me suelo leer o buscar. Por ello....
El libro esta bien y sirve como entrada para aquellos que quieren ver un poco por encima como es la historia de Final Fantasy VIII y también todo lo que rodeo al juego en su salida y tiempo después. Pero a mi gusto le falta entrar mas en algunos temas y se echa de menos aspectos como las armas de los protagonistas, localizaciones del juego (faltan mas detalles de la Ruina de Centra y detalles como Odin o Rey Tomberi o la parte salina que hay antes de entrar a Esthar), detalles del propio juego como son los Expedientes de Final Fantasy VIII o hablar de un G.F tan interesante como es Helltrain. Ojo, no esta mal lo que hay en el libro y me lo he leído en poco tiempo pero le falta un poco mas de cariño.
Eso si, hablan de las teorías que mas he leído por Internet sobre el juego e intentan profundizar un poco sobre ellas. No digo nombres para no tener que meter la review en Spoilers.
P.D: Aunque no tengo nada que ver con libros...recomiendo escuchar Piano Collections de Final Fantasy VIII.
