description

Much more focused then Ashe chapter. The story was more coherent and grounded in one place, with clear reasons and motivation from characters. Bit more gray areas around characters would be nice, but I didn't say it's perfect. Art was good, so I'm giving it 4 as an overall score.

In the Set 6 11.22 patch for Team Fight Tactics, Lux's ult is insane, especially if you have Blue Buff or Infinity Edge. Of course none of that is mentioned in the comic, because the Lux in TFT is Academy Lux. Well ok, maybe thats not the reason. This comic was released before TFT set 6 and including in game mechanics in a story would be cray (well I'd love it)

The comic is pretty good even if you have no idea what I'm talking about or any context with LOL. the art is great and you actually do feel sympathy with the villains. With the success of Arcane, I'm guessing at somepoint Luxana Crownguard's story will get a series and the foundations / conflict here are good source material for that eventual cartoon

Honestly this isn't strictly a 5* read, but I just get so happy whenever I see League lore actually being interesting 😂

Introducing Sylas as a character and then rebuilding Demacia's lore around him is one of the best things that has ever happened for the lore of this game, and I'm really satisfied with how this comic developed the situation. The plot itself wasn't particularly original (outlawed magic and magic users) but so many characters were fleshed out - Sylas, Lux, Garen, Tianna, J3, J4, and even Xin Zhao in the short story at the end - because the conflict allowed us to see how differently they reacted due to their individual concerns and priorities.

I think I'm in mild shock that they even managed to give Garen some depth when he used to be one of the simplest and most boring tropes out there.

I'm really hoping to see more work of this caliber to flesh out the lore!

Amazing story, much more polished and taken care of than Ashe. The story of the characters is so intriguing and full of little things that a League player will obviously remark. If you don't play the game, you might miss these easter eggs, but as a player myself, I definitely enjoyed this comic so much. Top tier art as well.

Really good mini series, but the story would be so much better if it got the arcane treatment in the demacia series. Have this as a running B plot, that explodes (literally) in the penultimate episode of season 1, and end the season with sylas’ uprising

Also, i NEED lux in a Cupcakesque (caitvi) couple. I need the hurt of the breakup, but i also need them together at the end

i just loved this hq so much... as a fan of Demacia, i really enjoyed, although i thought things would be a little bit different, lux is trully a hero, and it's awesome to see her growing while she passes through a lot.

Good visuals, of course, and I loved all the care and skill that went into the design and the worldbuilding - but the characters could've all done with a bit more development.

In many ways my favourite of the LoL comics, but something I just must criticize is the way the narrative deals with Demacias actions. It represents Demacia with "flawed but sympathetic" characters, whereas the people they surpress are represented by a mad mass murderer.
Using violence to fight an actual genocide is not going too far and in many ways, Sylas is right, the only reason he's the villain is because he doesn't care how many people he has to cut through to get what he wants. Which is a trope that already annoys me when it's applied to our world and Western issues: Whenever there is a group of people that wants to fight the system, the story will usually grant them a "They have a point"-acknowledgement but have their prominent members be total evil so the good guys are still the heroes for ultimately defeating them, defending a system that continues to kill people. In this story, it's downright applied to a genocide.

Demacia has to be my least favourite region of Runeterra, and Sylas has to be the champion I hate the most in game. But I can't thank him enough for bringing some flavour to such a boring region. I still can't believe how Demacians do not realize Lux is a mage after all she has done (Like, I don't know, PUBLICLY ADMITTING SHE HAS HELPED SYLAS ESCAPE), but I guess Riot's favourite champion needed that special treatment. Oh, well.

Still, I like how Riot has moved on from the "Demacia is good, Noxus is bad" kind of mentality, and started to show them as regions with both their ups and downs. And sorry, I'm a sucker for the "Good vs good" trope. A kingdom that persecutes mages to keep people safe against a runaway mage who is willing to do (and kill) anything to bring some change? Sign me the FUCK up. I read all five issues in about an hour, I definitely enjoyed them. "Lux" is not better than "Zed", but it is definitely a close second.

I feel like, overall, this comic is a very good introduction/overview of Demacia's storyline, but it fails in providing any real depth and honestly leaves more questions than answers. I also feel like, and this somewhat of a common criticism anyway, Sylas is unjustly portrayed as the villain. We see first hand by the portrayal of the comic itself the cruelty of the mageseekers. Only a rebellion like he's staging would fix the issue of them existing and mistreating the mages. Lux's peaceful protest type deal is more like putting a band aid on an open wound.

Unless all of that is intentional for setting up the conflict between one side being an extremist and the other being too much of a pacifist, with an added flavour of them knowing each other and having been friends (even... more than friends?) then it's probably a mark of bad storytelling. If it IS intentional, then that makes this whole comic a 5 stars. But I think Riot's writing team shines best at portraying characters that are somewhat in the middle anyway, so we'll have to see.

As for the other characters, it's easy to see that Jarvan IV and Garen are honorable people (or at least they think they are) and are more or less just understood to be victims of the system, something that I do think is interesting. And considering Lux's betrothal to Jarvan IV that's going to definitely set up conflict because she wasn't exactly happy about it.

Overall, as an origin story for Lux and a set up for future, more fully fledged stories, this an excellent read. But as I said, it does pose too many questions and is taking a direction that has created ludonarrative dissonance among Runeterra lore fans in general. The next piece of media that I can engage with is The Mageseeker, which I will play, because there is no way I'm being left in the dark about what happens with these characters.

edit: I started playing the mageseeker, and it fixes a solid 70% of the problems I had with this comic. It still needed more flavour, but it's a start.

edit 2: I finished the mageseeker, and I still stand by that. It fixed the comic, sure. But I was left wanting a bit more, I think.

Overall, I'd say this is a 4 Stars, B tier read.

One of the better-written League of Legends comics in recent years, this is a brilliant addition to the worldbuilding Riot is attempting to do across its various media (upcoming games, events in the primary game, novels and comics). It features the Crownguard family, to which Garen and Lux belong, who have strong beliefs about all things arcane in this universe- which shouldn't come as a surprise given Demacia's stance on this whole thing. Their aunt, Tianna (whom I'd like to see more of), Jarvan IV, and of course, Sylas, who is perhaps one of the most intriguing new characters League has invented in the last decade.

All that said, the star of the show is definitely Lux, who, surprise surprise, can use magic herself! This, coupled with her curiosity and compassion for 'magic-addled' people, offers layers upon layers of complexity which are subtly and neatly explored in this short series. Not only does it have great characterization to boot, but the worldbuilding aided with a fairly grey perspective of storytelling helps push the believability of the characters and their motives. It all builds up to what one could call the 'origin' for Lux as we know her in the game. The only thing that pulls me back from giving this an outstanding rating is the ending, it didn't quite hit the mark as I expected it to, although it decently accomplished what it set out to do.

Good book, would recommend to League fans.

Now this is how you introduce a Champion.

We follow here the story of Luxanna Crownguard, The Lady of Luminosity, Lux.

Lux is part of a privileged class in the land of Demacia, which has reached a near utopic life style thanks to the hard work of the mageseekers, a special police that hunt down people with magical powers, she is a sweet girl with a good life and is set to marry, against her wishes, the prince of Demacia.

All fine and dandy, right? Well the thing is… she is also a mage and doesn’t really know how to control her powers, think about it as the mutants in Marvel, her powers started to act up and she was afraid of loosing everything just by being born different. I think her family knows about this, but it’s not too clear.

So, trying to find a solution to her problem she meets Sylas, a mage criminal who says was betrayed by the people of Demacia. He teaches her how to use her powers and gains her trust, fooling her into considering him a friend.

The story is a very cool tale about loyalty vs doing the good thing. And it really made me interested in getting into LOL and playing with Lux, Garen and Sylas.

Pd.

I really like Lux as a character and I enjoyed this comic about her! It does a good job explaining the circumstances and her personal struggle of having magic powers in a country that forbids and hunts down mages. I feel like the comic really developed Lux' character. She had to make decisions on her own and rely on her gut and she grew a lot through this.

The storyline was fitting an interesting with a good mix of action and character development, and I also liked the "villain" and even found him relatable! (Although one might argue who's really the villain here. Not a fan of Demacia's anti-magic attitude^^)

The art was also good and consistent. Plus you don't have to be super into League of Legends or know tons of stuff to understand this comic!

My husband has played League of Legends for years and, while I dabbled a bit while we were dating and into the first couple years of being married, I am a much bigger fan of the lore of the champions. And when I discovered League was publishing comic books—I added this to last year’s Christmas list.

Ant bought it for me and I’ve finally read it. It was great! And I enjoyed all the background and behind-the-scenes drawings that are included, as well as the short story about Zin Zhao included.

Looking forward to reading more League champion comic books :)

Well, I can definitely say the art is excellent in this graphic-novel. We delve into intrigue throughout the Demacian capital. That is about as far as a summary can go from me as I managed to snag a version in Spanish.

I was able to roughly piece together what was happening, with mages being given the shaft by basically all of Demacia. Lux serves as our bridge, and wrestles with her loyalties throughout. Special mention to all the EXTRA jazz after the last issue. Lore nuts will enjoy those bits for sure.

Best shoulderpads go to Lux/Garen's mother, Tianna. Woof woof.

Straight off the Arcane season 2 train I decided to finally get around to reading this book, that has been sitting in my shelf for well over 2 years. It doesn’t have the depth and beauty that Arcane did, but it is still enjoyable. It goes really well with quick and sets up the basic premise for Demacia and who Lux is. All in all it was pretty good. I was hoping for a bit more, but it’s fine. I really do hope we get more of this story. Lux is one of my favorite champs in game, so I hope we get some expansion down the road.

The Mageseeker oyununun öncesini anlatıyor.

I’m a big lol fan and when I heard this was coming out I was super exited to see luxs’ story pop out into color and it did the art is beautiful. The one thing I just think it was a little hectic or rushed at some points Wich can make it kind of confusing unless you know the story and or finish the book. Still good though ^_^

Comics are always kinda difficult to rate for me since many things can influence a rating heavily.
I must say though that the art is amazing, the story was well told and managed to focus on some characters that are important to Demacia. It didn't stray from the main plotline though there are so many story and character arcs that can be told.

I liked the view of Demacia and the issues that the kingdom has beyond being "the good guys". I liked seeing the negative view of mages and how Lux and Garen's family history must deal with those. Also liked the underbelly of the kingdom seen through Sylas. This comic, more than the others I have read, lives up to what they did with the TV show.

I thought it was really well done, every character had clear motivation and felt very real in a sense. Sylas' little Malfoy moment and some other parts were quite funny, which was a nice break to the more heavy story. The art was really good too. Will probably pick it up again some time.

This story had very interesting world building and really taught me more about Demacia. I’d say the negatives are that it focuses a lot of Sylas and I really wished I could learn more about the world and Lux.

I kind of want to reserve my judgement here, because it seems like there are some holes in this story but there's also more to the series so I can't really be sure yet. The art was really well done and the story was pretty interesting though. Definitely will be picking up the later volumes.
