Birth of a New Evil

Rate this book
“There comes a time in every man’s life, he listens to the little voice in his head. It’s at that moment, he embraces his true self.”

On the Continent of Skyhaven, there are only two paths in which a sorcerer could embark on - The path of Light and The path of Darkness.

In a world filled with heroes and villains, the most nefarious practitioner from the path of Darkness stood at the peak, and terror reigned over the continent. Striving to end his reign of terror, a thousand sorcerers from the Path of Light ambushed him. After a thrilling battle that lasted for over thirty days, the sorcerers from the path of Light triumphed. But, at the moment of his death, a blinding gray object exited his body, disappearing into a void.

Ten thousand years later, a young boy from a war-torn country reincarnates into the body of a young sorcerer from the continent of Skyhaven.

At that same moment, he heard a strange sound.

Typical story of a guy who had his head in the clouds that gets stompd down only to completely lose his mind and end up trying to kill everyone reguardless of if they were the one's that wronged him or not.

I will say that the guy does have a legit reason for being upset. Like, a SUPER legit reason for being upset. However, instead of taking out his anger on the people that he should be. He simply tries to kill everyone and that's why he's a giant douche bag. Had a hard time reading this because the more I read about what he did, the more I felt that he deserved to be have a shit life. Not that I want want happened to him to have happened, more around the lines of, I hope that he bumps his toe into painful things at life, or every time he goes to have sex he goes limp, or that he gets crabs but his arms are too short to scratch.

Yeah, dropping this series....

I can honestly say that by the end of the book I completely hated the character. I mean in the beginning he was ok but after his fight with Lucien he went off the deep end. I could see him killing his 'father', 'brother' and a few of the others but Ulga seriously? I mean she might have bullied him but she had a pretty valid reason. Also whats with all the rape seriously! I kind of hope that the author gets James mind unwarped by the dark arts magic he has cause thats just not cool. Being evil is one thing but at least make him a smart evil that sticks to his guns. By the end he pretty much just is an evil bastard with no soul. Feel bad for Rachel though, she really didn't deserve what she got. The father though yep, divine justice.

Lets get this out of the way: this book has some of the worst technical writing ever. And the audiobook does nothing to fix it. The narrator flat out reads the errors out loud. The author seems to also have extremely limited vocabulary, with a number of words, such as 'beautiful' massively overused. A number of plot holes too. Mc mentions the nec system is like games, but given his previous life background, he wouldnt have had the time to actually play any. Speaking of games the stats are pretty much for show. They are never actually used.

So why put up with this? Well, for me, its because i wanted a villain mc. And thats extremely rare, not just in litrpg. I get tired of goody two shoes or even anti heroes that are barely gray, with conveniently darker villains and so i seek out villain mcs. And in that regard this book delivers. No affably evil or anti villain nonsense. A straight up, innocent- harming villain mc. If thats what you want this book may be worth putting up with. If not, stay far away.

An odd read

This book has the potential to be a good read. However, the shocking grammar and editing nearly ruined it. What did ruin it for me was the sex elements. The writer describes rape as love making and other such descriptors and whilst not being a prude some of the descriptions turned my stomach, not because of the subject but because of the terms used such as love making and sweet love which given the scenario where wholly inappropriate. The gory scenes were fine if a little immature. I did like the premise of the story of a cracked, damaged and evil protagonist but the execution and poor language choices almost ruined it. I read a lot and I believe this story has a lot of potential but it just needs to be edited effectively.

Very poorly written.

Not sure if this is a Google translate or not. I have read some rough translations before, but this was too much.

I have to pass.

I read this while it was still a webnovel on qidian, I've got to admit that I thoroughly enjoyed every second of reading this novel. The kind of scenes depicted in the novel might not be for everyone, but for this who enjoy it you'll get maximum satisfaction.

The story starts off a little bit slow (interesting still), but once things move along you begin to understand the author's vision for his book.

It's not easy writing a spoiler free review for this novel, all I can say is that, if you like Evil MC's, this is the novel for you.

P.s. "Evil" is subjective...

Good concept but childish plot

The concept is not new and funnily enough the author isn’t necessarily a bad writer… But the plot is essentially a sad unlikeable overpowered main character who does mean things to both bad and good people just because… no real purpose or plot. More like a sad fantasy than an actual story

THIS IS JUST BAD

Just three chapters in and I can't stand to hear another word I can't say if it's the narrator or just how bad the author wrote this book. Either way this is the most pretentious thing I ever had the displeasure listening to and I listen to a lot of books. The details upon details upon details for no reason is horrible I dont know how any one can stand to listen to this book.

I think this might just be the worst book ever written.

Admittedly, I did not finish the book, but boy I sure got far enough to give a fair review.

Credit where it is due, this is a good story. The author has a great idea here. The problem is that he has no clue how to tell it. I feel like this is written by an 8 year old pretending to be an adult.

One of my biggest problems was that the author apparently has no clue what pronouns are. you will hear the subject noun be repeated several times in a handful of sentences, which gets quite grating. Another major problem is the repetitive and awkward descriptors. "___ expression of their face" is apparently the only way the author knows how to describe someone's attitude. There isn't any, "they smiled maliciously," or "their face slowly darkened in rage" or anything of the sort. every single expression is always without fail described as "they had a ___ expression on their face" and again, due to the lack of pronouns, you will hear that multiple times in a sentence. Also, The author apparently doesn't think his audience is intelligent enough to extrapolate obvious information. Everything is explained in repetitive, excruciating detail as though he is explaining it to a four year old. These are just a few examples, but most of the writing is just as awkward, stilted, and weird. Not to mention that he thinks he is much smarter than he is, treating extremely obvious foreshadowing as though it is too subtle for anyone to notice, and the payoff being a shocking twist.

But the worst issues are when the author writes anything about sex. on top of the sex scenes being just awfully written due to the aforementioned problems, the sex itself is extremely creepy. The main character is 13 years old, but for some reason the author thinks it is ok to describe him having sex. and if that were not bad enough, the women he has sex with are all much older, at least 18. There is even one part where he talks about losing his virginity WHEN HE WAS 10 YEARS OLD. AND IT IS PRESENTED AS A NORMAL, GOOD THING.

I don't know what is wrong with this guy, but he seriously needs to talk to a therapist. Then take writing lessons.

This book is trying to utilize the Chinese cultivation style story telling I see in a lot of cultivation books, but the editing is slightly off. Things aren't flowing smoothly together.
It gets slightly jumbled and confusing.
Doesn't help matters that he wants to check his stats as frequently as possible.

This stats checking is stupid and pointless, because the protagonist will explain exactly what changed after checking. I don't need to look for myself.

I really don't understand why the author felt it necessary to make the protagonist thirteen years old? Is he implying that only a thirteen year old would act so "edgy"?
I would have believed a fifteen year old would be more capable of these things, not a thirteen year old reincarnating into a thirteen year old.

I don't know how to feel about this book. Many parts in this novel was poorly executed. I don't know if I will continue the series.

Interesting premise.. poorly executed.

The recent trend of self publishing has brought an explosion of interesting books to Amazon. The biggest problem though, is when the self published authors do not have their books edited professionally.

This book falls prey to that as well. There are errors too numerous to count. There are so many missing words that you kind of have to get used to filling in the blanks as you go.

The story itself is rather shaky. It just feels rather flat. James doesn't have to struggle for anything. It all just happens so easily that it was unexciting. I got bored, and tired of all the errors, so I quit reading around 30 percent into it.

If the author had it edited for spelling, grammer and punctuation, then tweaked the story a little, it would help a LOT.

This might just be the worst book ive ever finished. The rpg system makes no sense and the amount of stats he gains is just ridiculous. Level 20 and hes dumping thousands of stats points around and its not really clear what they do besides the HP/MP. how is someone that has 20 intelligence compared to someone that has something like 3000 intelligence ?
The grammar and the sentence structure is really bad.
The mc is comically evil, just pointlessly killing and raping people for no reason. The author takes time to tell us how the MC that is 13 has sex. STAY CLASSY ! I was looking for a evil protagonist but this guy is just fucking trash. He's like the stereotypical rapist evil guy from anime.

Books needs a lot of editing

The only positive thing about the book is that the "plot" had interesting theories. However, the author's use of grammar and spelling was horrible.

The author commonly used run-on sentences, some sentences had both simple spelling errors, and a lot of grammar usage made the book hard to read. There were scenes where the name of a character was changed incorrectly. Most of the characters were very simple and had no true quirks. Scenes and viewpoints would change frequently within a paragraph. The book description needs a warning line about sex/gore. Personally, I would change the ages of the main characters due to events that happen to them.

So many errors.

So many grammatical errors to this book that a simple read through would have corrected. The plot is interesting, the MC kind of predictable, and it tends to gloss over some details but not bad. Sadly I can't give it more than 2 stars because of the simple mistakes and the confusing leveling system. Fix the grammar and time the leveling system and this might be a great series.

Terrible

This was akin to reading a grocery list of bad or awful things a ptetulant child would write in his journal.

Typos and spelling errors, poor grammar, nonexistant grammar, extremely one dimensional characters, this is essentially every bad trope written very awfully and rolled into one massive shit sandwich.

The only thing the author has going for them at this point is the dedication to have finished a "book" and the balls to release this as a finished product.

Good story ok writing

I found the story to fairly original and entertaining. On the other hand there were grammatical errors appently as well as using one character's name in place of another's on multiple occasions. All in all I look forward to another book hopefully with better spelling and grammar though.

Editing needed

Terribly written with obscenely bad grammar and spelling. Writing is childish, bland and dull, and the author evidently never heard the advice of "show, don't tell" when it comes to writing a scene. I wonder if the author ever bothered to read his own work and see that this is a first draft at best.

I really like the premise those Book but I did not like how it was executed. How many time does Sound Drift in to people ears is this book also, it takes a really long time to describe something that is multiple times. In fact this book repeat it self so many I have to ask if it was to pad for words. Sorry I do not like writing bad reviews but this book needs to be fixed.

Just Okay

The story would have been better without all those typos. I was having flashbacks of English classes which gave me the chills. Having to stop and re-read sentences took a lot out of the adventure for me.

Needs improvement

While I was interested in the evil MC I cannot recommend this to anyone.

1) tons of typos
2) litRPG elements are poorly developed
3) the world building is terrible
4) authors writing style is too convoluted, the characters are bland, and boring

Great read

This book was awesome. It had a great blend of action and story telling. Every time you thought the MC couldn’t get more evil, sadistic, or calculating he did lol. Love this book and can’t wait for a second

Oh boy

The premise for this book is good but fear God it should have gone through a lot more editing than it did. Leaving all the grammatical errors aside; the story was very incoherent using unnecessary words and sound effects. Please get it professionally edited then re-release.

This is a lot of bad things happening to a lot of bad people.

The content is fine, what you get is just what you expect. The build up takes awhile, a long while, and the writing is dry. That is what knocks off a star, it gets a bit hard to read in places.
