Subject B will do anything to get his life back. But the dead have other plans…
Kidnapped by the brilliant Professor Worthe, Vietnam vet Marcus Holt is forced to take part in a sadistic experiment. Worthe's game has one objective: to see how much fear a man can survive. Now known as Subject B, Marcus is about to discover the answer to that question… Whether he likes it or not.
Trapped in Worthe’s haunted village, Marcus and his team stumble across Subject H, a frightened young mother eager to reunite with her child. She soon becomes the target of a ghost drawn to her fear and anguish. A wrathful spirit that stalks them all from the shadows, waiting for a chance to wield his razor-sharp knife—to carve out the heart of any mother he can find…
Marcus must call on every ounce of strength and courage to protect Subject H from the terror that hunts her. But even if they can escape Worthe’s latest horror, another enemy lurks in the village… a deadly spirit Marcus has faced before.
This vicious ghost is about to end Worthe’s experiment once and for all… By killing Marcus Holt.
Ron Ripley is a husband and father surviving in New England, a place which seems to be getting colder every day. He grew up across from a disturbingly large cemetery where he managed to scare himself every night before going to bed. Mostly because of the red lights that people put in front of the headstones. Those things are just plain creepy to a kid.
Ron enjoys writing horror, military history and driving through the small towns of New England with his family, collecting books and giving impromptu lectures on military history to his family, who enjoy ignoring him during those dreadful times.
The story of the Haunted Village continues, and a new ghost has moved in. This time, Marcus and his group must weigh the odds of their survival against the newest member brought in, and determine whether they can save her or not.
Great read, and I love that these shorts allow me to get through a book in one sitting. I cannot wait to dive into the next book!
This is one of those stories I had a difficult time following and understanding what was going on. What few parts I did comprehend were interesting enough. Just wish I'd understood the story more.
Another excellent installment in the Worthe's Village series. I get so excited everytime I start another of Mr Ripley's books, and this one has been no disappointment. So we return to the village once more to check in on our survivors of the haunted place. The main cast of characters remain the same as from the previous book (although no spoilers as to who may or may not survive to the end!). As the relationships deepen between Marcus, Alex, Joyce and Elaine, things get more difficult within the compound, there seems to be a traitor in the midst. On top of this Mr Worthe continues to introduce new ghosts, and the dead residents are starting to cause some bother all round. We get given more insight into Marcus' background, and there is a sense things are starting to unravel slightly for Mr Worthe, David and the team. An excellent next installment, I continue to be completely enthralled, and I cant wait to start on the next chapter, Poisonous Whispers.
I don't know why I'm always surprised after reading a book by this author because I know how much of an amazing writer he is, and I know how he always throws curve balls and how each book seems to be better than the last....yet here I find myself surprised again!!! This book was a non stop roller coaster and I felt like I was holding my breath the whole way through.
Worthe has aquisitioned another property. This time a greenhouse with a particularly nasty young ghost in it. The ghost likes to kill mothers so naturally Worthe kidnaps a mother for him. Meanwhile Marcus is dealing with the fact that there are other ghosts, than the ones in the houses, who want him and his friends dead. They will even kill the boy!
I feel like the plot is really ramping up!! There are more ghosts, the fighting is starting to get more brutal and is taking it's toll on Marcus, things are happening outside the fence of the village and Worthe is getting rattled. As I said already, it was non stop! The plot is well written, we'll thought out and has so much suspense that I feel all the books need to be binge read because it's impossible to put them down.
This series...and many others by this author...should be made into movies. They are that good!!! I'm invested in these characters and their struggles and can't recommend the books enough!! Absolutely brilliant.
I love Thom Bowers narration. He has so much talent and it really shows. A sign of a great narrator is one who makes you forget everything other than the story you're listening to. It's one who brings a story effortlessly to life and that's what he does.
I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.
Once again, Ron Ripley creates a winner. The ghost d'jour this time around is a young boy who develops a grisly garden composed of the hearts of mothers. He has a thing for mothers because he feels abandoned by his own mother. As I read more and more of Ron Ripley's work, I've learned that his most evil ghosts are those of children. Frankly, they scare the crap out of me. Marcus and his team make their usual attempts to rescue the unfortunate woman unfortunate enough to be imprisoned with Able Worthe's evil child ghost. At the same time, they are ramping up plans to escape. While this drama plays out, some of Worthe's own people are plotting against him and sabotaging the village. This is all leading up to what should prove to be a rockin' finale to this series.
Worthe decides he needs to shift the tables on Subject B in this book to make things more interesting. Added to that, Worthe’s nerves are tested as even the ghosts themselves are getting antsy over the situation and creating problems, and there seem to be some traitors in his midst. The next ghost added to the collection is really high on the creepy scale. I couldn’t put the book down once I got to a certain point as things were happening nonstop. You’ll definitely want to read the next book after this as the story really picks up pace towards the end and leaves a lot hanging.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily offering my honest review.
Well, Mr. Ripley, you have succeeded in getting me hooked on this series! Now I am thoroughly invested in the story and the characters, as well as curious as to how this is going to play out. Just wondering if my favorite character from previous books is going to reappear in the next books??? Don't want to name names in case someone is just starting this series and hasn't come upon that person yet! As always, I find your books very detailed and enjoyable. Excellent writing, sir!!!
Why would the writer and the series without finishing all the loose ends!??😠I want to know if the 3main characters ever escape? What happened with Merideth &Timmy? Did Marcus,Alex &Joyce ever leave? What happened to David?Did Able get what was coming to him??since there were all these loose ends,I am only giving this series 3 stars, only because I got invested in the characters. And was really caught up in the story. What a horrible let down! Boo &shame on you Ron!
This series has held my interest throughout, this is another installment in one of the most riveting series I’ve ever read! I love the way this author writes, the plot is brilliant and scary, the characters and their dialogue is realistic (not that I’ve ever been in that position to know what I’d say)! This is another page turner that kept me on the edge of my seat. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
There is plenty going on in Worth's village. The ghosts are restless including native American ones. The addition of a greenhouse where a truly monstrous ghost lives will leave Marcus with a choice, will be save the victim or will he realize it could cost him more than he is willing to lose. There is never a dull moment within the pages of this series! Can't wait to read the next book.
Book 4 of the series and Oh Wow!! These books keep getting better and better, although I have to say I am beginning to really hate Abel. Another ghost is brought to the village and he is probably the worse so far. Abels own people are plotting against him, he also seems to be unraveling. The bond between Marcus, Joyce and Alex is getting stronger and stronger. Can’t wait to see what happens next.
Wesley creeped me out, maybe even terrified me which is a good thing when reading horror books. I very much enjoyed this book. I need to learn to take notes because I have (had) so much to say while reading it. Oskar was my favorite ghost but Wesley is a very close 2nd. Able is the biggest monster of all. The audacity of this man, really. I wish Able's childhood tormentor could have had some more time punishing him.
Fond of a mother's heart Worthe's new ghost wants to carve out the heart of any mother he comes across. So the new victim to the village is a mother who only wants to go back to her child. Marcus must pull out all stops to keep them all alive while trying to plot Worthe's death and their escape.
As winter sets in, professor Worthe's experiment starts to fall apart. Can Marcus save the newest victim? Can professor Worthe continue his control in the village? This book was as good as the last (something that I find is rare in most series) and I'm excited to see where it goes next.
Mr Ripley certainly knows how to write can't wait for book 5 so much to tie u what happens to everyone soo many questions hope we get the answers can't wait .Waiting in anticipation !!
This book did not disappoint! Another great book by the author, Ron Ripley. If you love ghost stories, this series will keep you looking forward to the next chapter!
This series is getting better and better. I mean this dude is CRAZY!! I can't wait to see what happens, it Shane Ryan will be fully brought in to do his work. :)
The spirits are restless and our intrepid survivors have both new allies and new enemies. Yet another haunt has been added to village, and this one is truly evil.
