Yet again, I say...this is just one of the million things I love about blogging. New to me authors! Claudia Burgoa, who I had the honor to meet last fall, is a new to me author and I am amazed with her story!
Maybe Later is a story about two people, who have created different personas for different reasons.
What starts as a business relationship develops in to a grudging friendship and then more.
I loved the banter between the two main characters, I don't want to name them because each "name" gives away too much.
I loved how each "name" had different characteristics of the same person. What they wanted the world to see and what they only show to people they trust. And for the both of them trust doesn't come easy.
This is a slow burn, but I think their friendship builds so much more for them. It was agonizing to see how they were falling for who they thought was one person but wishing it was the other.
This sounds complex and confusing, I know, but when you read this story it will unfold beautifully and with just the right timing.
I was so happy with how this ended, it wasn't rushed, it wasn't pushed, it came together at just the right time!
I can't wait to add Ms. Burgoa's other stories onto my TBR list. I am so glad I got the opportunity to read and review this story!

Maybe Later is an absolutely charming romance. It's witty, fun, emotional, and completely engaging from start to finish. It's the story of two people who don't trust easily and both are pretending to be someone else. The truth of them lies somewhere in the middle of what they show to the world and what they give to each other under the anonymity provided by email and text messaging. From the beginning, I was sure I knew exactly where this one was going, where the relationship angst would come from, but the author took me completely by surprise and went in a different direction. It's a slow burn romance, but the pacing doesn't feel slow at all. At the same time, nothing feels rushed or forced, and the timing is about as perfect as it gets. The characters are interesting and lovable, the banter is witty and often hilarious, and the romance is heartfelt and sexy. This may be my first read by this author, but it certainly won't be my last.

Maybe Later is a unique, sexy and heartfelt romance that hits all the right spots. Jackson is a hardworking, reclusive and gruff CEO, who meets his match in his intelligent and feisty virtual assistant, Amy. They square off and argue from the moment he sends her his first list of tasks, but they quickly find themselves working well together and talking about more personal matters over emails and messenger chats. They’re both leery of love and surprised when they begin to feel strongly about someone they’ve never met. Of course, their relationship gets a lot more complicated when they meet outside their cozy virtual world without realizing they’re Jackson and Amy. You’ll feel everything while reading this gem of a romance.

Maybe Later is a stand alone romance by Claudia Burgoa. This is such a wonderful book. It’s one of those books that just makes you feel all warm on the inside. These two were so cute together. I will admit that they did frustrate me as well. I just wanted to give them both a little shake and make them see what was right in front of their faces!!
Jackson Spearman, CEO of EMC Technologies is a wealthy, demanding man, not much of a sense of humor. He lives for his work. He’s been badly hurt in the past and his way of dealing with it is to sink even deeper into his company, his work. Jackson’s assistant is going on maternity leave so in her place they’ve hired a virtual assistant. I will tell you that their first exchanges were not warm and fuzzy. These two definitely took awhile to warm to each other.
Amy Walker is a virtual assistant extraordinaire. She had been warned before taking on her new client that he was going to be difficult. But she was up for the challenge. Little by little she wore him down. They slowly warmed to each other and a friendship was born. Their “work” chats soon became more personal.
At the same time, both Amy and Jackson completely by chance meet someone else in real life. Just a chance meeting, an instant connection, a glimpse of something worth exploring. Both Jackson and Amy are carrying burdens from their pasts. Both struggle with letting go and allowing happiness in now. Amy especially struggles with this connection she is feeling towards this new man she has met and the virtual friend she has made in Jackson.
This was such a sweet, romantic story. I especially loved Jackson. Once he was in, he was all in. The epilogues were especially wonderful. As I said earlier, this is a stand alone. But I look forward to reading about Jackson’s brother, Jason, in, Then He Happened.

If you’re getting a little bored with the typical tropy romance, this is the book for you. With a fresh premise, a unique format and a fascinating twist, Maybe Later deserves a category of its own. Start with a cranky CEO forced to avail himself of a virtual assistant. Add in said assistant with her snappy, snarky, brilliant emails and messages, then a side potential romance for both characters, and let the fun begin.
Burgoa did a beautiful job with both character development and developing the virtual relationship between Amy and Jackson, making it impossible not to love both of these characters. Amy is both the bold, intelligent, uninhibited heroine we all love and the uncertain, timid, cautious person many of us strive to overcome. Jackson seems like the complete opposite of Amy, but as interactions with Amy reveal more of Jackson's character, the similarities become more apparent. Through both of these characters, Burgoa shows the ease of courageous keyboarding while highlighting the importance of bravery and taking chances in real the real world. With endearing, relatable characters, a unique format and a fresh storyline, this engaging, heartfelt, humorous read is definitely worth a 1-Click.

I'm in love with love stories that explore other tropes. Falling in heavy like via email or text messaging sounds like something I could really get behind. Maybe it's because it can go either way... the people behind the screens could be completely truthful... or be hiding so much more than just their appearances. In this book, Jackson and Amy were those people.
Jackson was a successful and reclusive CEO. He didn't do well with people. He trusted very few and newbies didn't stand a chance. So when his assistant goes on mat leave, she hires him a virtual assistant. Someone who could handle all of his professional needs. Someone who could anticipate what he needed and even what he didn't know he did. However, he finds her extremely unprofessional. She gets too personal, when he doesn't like to share. She judges him for his behavior and choices and she ends each email with an inspirational quote. Who does she think she is?
I found Jackson and Amy to be more alike than I at first believed. They were both hiding. They both found it difficult to let someone else in. They were both infinitely curious about the other. Their eventual relationship was everything that I could have hoped for and the author ended up giving me something sweet to love. I wanted to hug these characters and softly encourage them to come out of their shells. I was thrilled with how good-hearted they were and what they each brought to the table. Neither one of them was weak despite their vulnerabilities and their sensitivity only made me love them more.
If you're a fan of romance for romance's sake, you'll fall in love with these characters and their story too!

Maybe Later has a lot of explosive chemistry. The story mostly takes place with chat and email. It is funny and flirty.
Miss Burgoa done a good job bringing the rom com spark into the story. The banter is fresh, funny and heated. I am so glad to listened to the audiobook while doing my mundane work at my office.
It is the story of mistaken identity between boss and personal assistant. Virtual personal assistant. The personal assistant is real person, I assure you.
Overall, a very enjoyable book.

4 Virtual Love Stars ⭐️
Maybe Later was a fantastically witty and charming slow burn romance that will have you laughing out loud. Written mainly as email conversations, it was easy to experience their relationship first hand.
When Jackson Spearman’s PA goes on maternity leave, there a very limited options for her replacement. Her boss is arrogantly successful, and an absolute tyrant to work for. Knowing that he’s a nightmare, she hires him a virtual assistant in her absence.
Amy Walker is ‘a virtual assistant extraordinaire’. Not only is she excellent at her role, she is more then equipped to handle anybody’s bullshit meter including Jackson’s.
”I’m 100% professional, Mr Spearman. You’re a tattle-tale who went and spoke to my boss. Next time you have a complaint, you should send me the draft so I can fix it.”
Considering that neither have met, their hate for one another is instantaneous. Their entire working relationship is spent via email and online chats until their insults turn into banter. And before know it, their professional relationship has spilled over, turning personal.

This book was okay. I liked where it started with the bossy boss and the in-charge woman clashing and learning to tolerate and then appreciate each other. The growing penetration in each others' personal life was fun to watch. It stays exclusively epistolary through the first 20% or so, but its well-done and with an eye to characterization that I appreciated. If you have a low tolerance for that format, however, then it will drag. I love a well-done epistolary story, though, so I enjoyed myself quite a bit. Even so, it was nice when things broke out into a more mixed-format with some first-person narrative coming in once they have a chance to meet each other in the real world.
Unfortunately, that's where the rockier bits show up. Because it turns out that both main characters have really large (unreasonably large) negative motivations* bogging the story down. And this is actually a really good story to illustrate why that is so problematic. You see, Jackson doesn't trust or do relationships because his ex-wife really worked him over. And Em has this weird misplaced guilt over a personal tragedy that makes her unfit for others (she believes). Both have been years without relationships and both profess not to want one. So why are they dating, again?!? The only counter on all that friction is attraction and "chemistry". But that's a really crappy motivation for a burgeoning relationship. Indeed, that's barely enough for someone to ask another out. It's not at all adequate for continuing a pursuit when one of them takes sex explicitly off the table. Neither wants a relationship. So why are they starting one?
I liked their banter and if you ignore the idiocy of their various brain damage things progress in interesting ways. I liked that they don't always get things right with each other. I liked that they had to work things out sometimes. And Jackson, at least, breaks through his stupid unmotivating motivation and discovers he really wants her and that eased the pressure on the plot substantially. I don't agree with his decision to maintain the ruse once he figures out their connected identities, but I rolled with that as part of the promised story/setup.
And then that wasn't quite a dark moment. But really kind of was. I don't like dark moments anyway, but this one in particular was a bit . . . weak. That's probably my own prejudice talking but .
Anyway, I nearly abandoned this twice as things got tedious. Each time, the characters and banter pulled me back in just long enough for me to regain my comfort with the story. That's a pretty rocky experience, however, so I'm calling it three stars.
A note about typesetting: This ebook does a line in small caps after section breaks. Which could be a cool effect. Unfortunately, it considers a transition to and from IM/text to be a section break. And since those sections are interspersed with internal dialogue in the latter part of the story, that meant you sometimes get a great many small cap lines on a page. Which isn't at all a cool effect...
A note about Steamy: There's a single explicit sex scene, but two weird fantasy sex jaunts that put this into the middle of my steam tolerance. It's all very hot, of course, like you do in a romance. All of it felt gratuitous, frankly.
* Negative Motivations: I kind of hate that the term "negative motivation" isn't widespread, yet. Since it isn't, I'm going to save off this little jag to append to my reviews that feature the term. Jennifer Crusie blogged about it a bit back (or, if that link doesn't work, here's a cache of the original) and it changed how I understand story. The problem with the term is that if you've never heard it before, you'd assume it meant motivations that are harmful or immoral. Not so. What it refers to is motivations not to do something. The thing is that many of us are motivated to not do things for a lot of different, perfectly valid and reasonable, reasons. The problem is that in a story motivations to not do things are a huge drag on the plot—particularly considering the fact that most negative motivations are overcome by the character simply deciding they don't care any more (or, rather, that they do care and are now motivated to do the thing). So not only do you have a counter to action but you also have a situation where to overcome it, all a character has to do is change their mind. Which means eventually, the reader is rooting for the character to get over him/herself already and do the thing we want them to do. Conflict drives story. Conflict between a reader and a main character drives readers away from story.

Let me start out by saying I usually need a box of tissues close by when I read one of Claudia's books but this one was different, not only did I not need the tissues I was actually laughing out loud at times! This book touched on some heavy subjects, like, being the perfect child and divorce, but honestly it didn't wallow in it so you didn't feel the over abundance of emotions...YAY! I really couldn't deal with that right now in my real life I needed this light, fun romance.
Claudia takes us on a journey of self growth and empowerment for both the Hero and the heroine, each having different obstacles to overcome, but she does it with quotes of the day and playlists as well as snarky emails and quick wit. I loved the banter between the two before and after it was figured out whom the other was. This book was like a breath of fresh air on a gloomy day.
If you enjoyed the movie "You've Got Mail" this is the perfect book for you, I for one absolutely adored that movie and watch it whenever I catch it on cable. If you are looking for an Office Romance that's more than just a Boss/Employee Relationship this book is for you. I would recommend this book to just about anyone looking for a fun sweet read that has some sexy times but isn't looking for that to be the whole make-up of the book. Happy Reading!!!

If you enjoyed the movie "You've Got Mail" this is the perfect book for you, I for one absolutely adored that movie and watch it whenever I catch it on cable. If you are looking for an Office Romance that's more than just a Boss/Employee Relationship this book is for you. I would recommend this book to just about anyone looking for a fun sweet read that has some sexy times but isn't looking for that to be the whole make-up of the book. Happy Reading!!!

I really enjoyed the first half of this book, especially the texting and emails - so fun and snarky.
I was a long way into the book before I realized that this was a modern spin on the movie "You Got Mail" by Nora Ephron which the author credits in her "Dear Reader" comments at the end of the book.
She calls this a virtual romantic comedy, which is pretty apt IMO.
Jack/Jackson and Em/Amy were interesting characters and in retrospect this was a really good story but at the time while reading I was expecting them to hook up a little sooner so there was a little frustration for me going on there but if you know anything about the movie storyline you will realize that the big reveal happens at the very end.
Claudia Burgoa is a talented writer and I look forward to reading more books by her. ❤

After reading a dark romance, a change of pace was in order, and Maybe Later by Claudia Burgoa was the book I didn't know I need it.
Filled to the brim with swoony feelings and witty banter, Maybe Later is a total breath of fresh air you won’t be able to keep away from nor tear your eyes off of.
To read a new author is always a risk, but I'm glad I took this one because now I am pretty excited to read more from Claudia Burgoa. Do not miss out on this story that will make you fall in love with Burgoa's writing one email at a time.

I wish I’d read the ebook instead of listening to the audiobook, I think I’d have followed this better. It was so hard to tell the difference between speech and thought; because they were both holding back significant information from one another yet thinking about it, I got so lost at times. I lost count of the number of when I thought, but he just told you that, only to realise he was just thinking it, he hadn’t told her. So confusing to listen to.
Add in the multiple personalities and the contrived plot where conveniently neither of them mentions anything revealing about where they are or the people they’re with, no matter how implausible, and I was bewildered at times. I’m sure this was better than my reading of it.
Complete story, but I’d avoid the audiobook of this one.

I can honestly say this book is one of a kind. It was charming. It was amusing. I was hooked from the very first email. This was no ordinary employee/boss romance.
Jackson Pearson is a grouch of a boss. He is a hard person to please and he is very closed off. His current assistant is going to be out of commission for a little while and he needs a temp and that’s where Amy comes in. She is his new virtual assistant. She is a major pain in his ass. She is free with her words and not as reserved as an assistant should be but she gets things done so she will do for now. Amy finds Jackson challenging but intriguing. They are becoming friends. Their conversations are full of banter and sometimes sexual innuendos but this is all over a screen. It’s not face to face. Face to face is meeting an incredibly sexy man who leaves her flustered and breathless. She is left feeling confused. Her heart is being pulled in two different directions and she will soon have to make a decision.
I loved the dialogue in this book but at times I was left feeling a bit confused myself. I found the ending a bit anti-climactic. Here was this big secret being revealed and their was no anger or anything. If I was in that situation, I would be very pissed and I would expect some very major groveling but either than that.... I really enjoyed this book.

This book started off so well for me. Then eventually the editing/continuity issues with plot overshadowed all the pluses. The main characters were great until they meet and then their relationship lost chemistry and felt weird. It’s an interesting take on a ‘you’ve got mail’ remake.

I thought it's gonna be usual jackass boss and assistant office romance,but this was so different in a good way.
Jackson gets a new virtual assistant and rejects the idea of her instantly,but Amy is the best at her job so she handles the "grumpy ogre" like a pro. They become close to friends although they never meet in real life. Jackson is a very reserved man and wants to keep it that way and Amy has her own demons and wants to remain anonymous but coincidence of all coincidences they do meet one day not knowing who each other is, until one of them do.
This a slow burn love story about taking a second chance in life and about self forgiveness.

This was different
Not much heat in this one, but I really did’nt miss it as I was so caught up in the emails going back and forth. The virtual world collides with the real world and things get pretty interesting. I really liked Jackson and Em, they certainly had some secrets and insecurities and this author took us down a very slow road, but it was surprisingly enjoyable. 4.5 stars.

I am so confused about how to rate this book! The first 50% of this book I was not the biggest fan, I liked the story but it was almost only emails I was reading and I was getting maybe a little bored and needed more from the characters, I wanted to know them more. but then just as I was agreeing with my self that this book would probably only get 3 stars she ended the last 50% of the book with a 5 stars worthy story. So now I was like well what do I do know? So I ended up giving it 4 stars.
This book started out as I said almost only on emails and it was basically just emails between Jackson and Amy getting to know each other finding out what to do and building up a connection. You will get a little romance in between but not much and there isn't any sexual tensions or anything but there is this killing slow burn connection you can feel building so it keeps you interested but it was just too long for me.
But then she started to write the book like every other book where I got to know them and feel what they feel and got to hear their thoughts. Then I started liking this book and now I wanted to know more. This storyline is hard to tell about without spoiling anything but I will tell you the twist you think is coming, think again. I sad choked after it and was thinking to my self...Yes, Claudia, I saw what you did there you clever woman.
The ending and epilog was definitely my favorite part of this book and was the part where I finally felt like I fell in love with them and not just liked them.
So even though this is one of my favorite trope's boss/assistant/pa I will not sell it entirely as that kinda book because she is a virtual assistant and she has nothing at all to do with him other than over email. But are you into slow burn, sweet men with a twist of a little bossy, and some self-discovering characters then this is your book.

I just could not put down this book. Every spare minute I had was spent absorbed in this quirky, witty book filled with the banter of two people who are seemingly complete opposites but over time begin to warm up to the idea of more.

Maybe Later takes a few unexpected twists and does not follow the cookie cutter structure of many romances making it a very fun read for me. I loved the develop of the H/h romance through their virtual relationship and loved the characters. I expected it to be predictable, but I was pleasantly surprised when I read it. I would recommend this one for sure if you are looking for something by Claudia Burgoa or untraditional and not set in stone trope-y.

Enter Amy, who will be is virtual assistant until his real one comes back. They communicate mainly at first via email, text..etc. Amy is funny, smart and works hard at her job but with that she doesn't take a bunch of mouth from him and sets him strait...something Jackson isn't used to. Amy does have her issues too as we learn. This was a nice take on a different type romance.

I absolutely loved this book. It was so different. It had everything for my emotions. The relationship between Jack and Emmaline was complicated. Each of them afraid of allowing anyone into their lives. They both had trust issues. I loved the concept with this book. The banter between was amusing. Their willingness to take a chance changed them forever.

3.5 stars. This book is difficult to figure out whether I’m going to recommend or not. A lot of it is epistolary and that was truly lovely. I absolutely adored the emails and texts between the two main characters. But, when they met in person it felt manic. Every time there was in person interactions, the characters just felt a little crazy.
I enjoyed the story a lot but I’m not sure if I’ll read anything else by this author.
It’s weird when both people are pretending to be someone else.

I absolutely love it when an author takes a chance by stepping outside the box and writes something different. If you’ve read Claudia Burgoa’s books, you know she doesn’t usually write romantic comedies and I am beyond thrilled that she wrote Maybe Later. Ms. Burgoa truly shows off her comedic writing skills with this cheeky romance. I’m still in a romantic comedy cloud after reading this book.
The writing in Maybe Later is perfection with a page turning, uniquely crafted storyline that is funny, hopeful and had me giddy the entire time I was reading it. Although the hero was rude and a bit difficult at times, once there was a breakthrough, his swoon worthy charm was enough to woo me and reel me in immediately. And the heroine is written with such relatable qualities with her no nonsense, clever and I’m not putting up with your bs behavior had me fist pumping in the air. The hero and heroine’s witty banter (especially in their email and text exchange) is hilarious!! Both were so easy to fall in love with as their story is heartwarming, passionate and sexy.
Maybe Later is the breath of fresh air that I crave in a romantic comedy. I am so in love with this book, the plot flows effortlessly, the ending was so sweet and perfect. It’s definitely a five plus star read that you just can’t help but love.
