I was so blessed and comforted by this book, I'm calling it my book of the year 2016. It encouraged me and comforted me through some rough waters recently. Morgan takes 12 verses from the Bible that speak of God's strength for us. Through Scripture, Morgan shows us that the God of the Bible (YHWH) never grows weak or weary, is majestic in power, and nothing is too hard for Him. Then to each of us He says, "So do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Just like all of Robert J. Morgan's books, this one is full of stories and examples that will bless the reader.

“With Christ we can certainly conquer, with faith, all the trials, inconveniences, sicknesses, and tests our lives throw at us. Jesus is overflowing with power and strength for our journey here below.”

An excellent, uplifting read. If you have ever gone through a trial, going through one, or feel as if one is coming your way (so that means every person) read this book. And have your highlighter ready.

The church I attend read this book over a 12 week period. The minister sent daily emails to discuss the chapter of the week. Each chapter discusses a verse that has "strength" in it. Morgan's wife, who has passed away from MS, wrote the ending to every chapter. I simply never got into the book or the emails.

"The Strength You Need" is a study on 12 verses that refer to strength: Deuteronomy 33:25, 2 Chronicles 16:9, Nehemiah 8:10, Psalm 46:1, Psalm 84:5-7, Isaiah 30:15, Isaiah 40:31, Isaiah 58:11, Habakkuk 3:19, Romans 4:20, Ephesians 3:16, Philippians 4:13. The author talked about people who found the verse inspirational, about the context of the verse, and about what lessons we can learn from all that. His wife also described how these verses have helped her.

As I'm still building up my physical strength after a recent illness that left me very weak for months, I thought this would be a helpful book. Unfortunately, I didn't really find it so. First, the author sometimes interpreted the verse in a way I'm not sure was what was really meant given the context. Plus some of these verses were spoken to a specific person in a specific circumstance, yet the author acted like it's a promise given by God to every believer. Second, he sometimes turned the lesson into a Christian living sermon--how to avoid Asa's mistake, for example--which just left me feeling more burdened with "ought to be doing" lists rather than feeling strengthened.

I do like some of these verses and have felt comforted by what they say about God's character and how He helps us. But I don't particularly feel a surge of energy (like the author apparently does) after having meditated on these verses. If these verses are particularly meaningful to you, then you might enjoy reading about what he (and others) get out of these verses.

I received a free ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.

I've read several other of Robert Morgan's books and recently was privileged to be presenting at a conference in which he was the keynote speaker. We were blessed by his messages, but I think I enjoy his writing even more than his speaking. Perhaps it's because one can read and re-read what he's written and have time to think and delve into it more.
In this book, Pastor Morgan looks at 12 verses that have to do with strength. He looks at the context of each one and then explains how that verse has been an encouragement to him. His wife, who has a physical disability, also writes a section at the end of each chapter telling how the verse is meaningful to her.
This is essentially a word study, which is something we could all do. But not all of us have the training or knowledge to understand the context or deeper meaning of a passage and Pastor Morgan does such a great job of leading us deeper in while leaving us with the desire to want to do more study.
Perhaps my favorite chapter was "Invest in a Power Company -- The joy of the Lord is your strength. Nehemiah 8:10"

Pastor Rob Morgan outlines 12 passages in the Bible that emphasize the strength that God can give you. His exposition of each passage is clear and very readable. He goes into the Biblical background of each passage, giving depth of understanding. He also brings in modern-day examples of people who use these passages in their daily lives to help them focus on God's strength.

As a disabled person, I especially liked the passages at the end of each chapter which were written by his wife, Katrina. I was saddened when my research showed that she has passed away from her multiple sclerosis. Katrina's insights were particularly meaningful to me with the daily struggles of being a disabled person. Her daily dependence on God and positive attitude are inspiring to me!

Sometimes a book just lands in your lap right when you need it. Robert Morgan is somewhat local to me and I just so happened to learn that, and then a few short days later found this book in a local thrift shop. I really enjoyed it. I found it quite easy to get through and meaningful. I really appreciated that his wife, who has since passed wrote a little at the end of each chapter. As someone who has a husband with a disease that will eventually take his life, I found the addition of her words a beautiful thing. Just a lovely little study on strength in the Lord.

This is one of the most encouraging books I've ever read. The author talks about 12 powerful verses/passages of Scripture that talk about God strengthening us for anything and everything we face in life. He gave great context for each verse, then application and encouragement for our daily lives. For anyone feeling weary or burdened, I highly recommend this book. It'll turn your eyes back to the Word of the One who gives us strength enough for each day.

I appreciated how thoughtfully and practically Robert Morgan unpacked a dozen of the Bible’s verses on strength. In a prolonged season of pressures and pain, both physical and emotional, I have felt my own weakness. How wonderful to have this insightful book to help me meditate on and apply God’s promises in meaningful ways. More than encouraging- a balm in a weary season and a guide for tapping into the strength God gives to every believer.

R. Morgan reflects on 12 passages from God's Word that contains the word "strength". He does an amazing job of giving the context of the passages and how "strength" was used in it. He is able to make the reader understand, appreciate and relate to the passages. It is light to read but heavy in content. It was an excellent book.

I absolutely loved this book. At the beginning of the year, I picked “strength” as my word for the year. Facing several trials, I wasn’t feeling too strong. I love the verses he picked for each chapter, and I am challenging myself to memorize them -to hide in my heart for moments I need them. His writing style is so easy to read and his words so heartfelt.

"The Strength You Need" I read as my morning coffee/pray time book the last few weeks. Overall, it's good and the message is quite clear. I enjoyed reading both Mr. Morgan and Mrs. Morgan's views on each bible verse. I felt more connected and engage with some chapters and not so much with others. This is a great book for any Christian to pick up during any season of their life.

Helpful reminder

When we are weak - and we are - God promises strength. Rev. Morgan presents 12 key passages from the Bible where we can draw strength. He writes from a fellow traveler’s perspective and I always appreciate that about his writing.

I received this book from a dear friend and mentor who said, "Everyone should read this book." She was right! I have already ordered a copy for my aunt. As time and finances allow, I have a lengthy list of friends for whom I want to buy this book.

I would give this 4.5 rating. I enjoyed the stories and inspiring and well-thought commentaries. The last chapter was meant for me to read at that moment I needed it. God spoke to through this book at His perfect timing. I truly recommend this devotional and soulful reading.

As always, Rob’s books are so inspiring. I will be praying Philippians 4:13 more often now, and with renewed meaning. I CAN do all things through Christ who gives me strength!

Эта книга:
1. Вдохновила меня выучить несколько библейских стихов наизусть.
2. Дала идею написать, что значит для меня каждая книга Библии, такое короткое резюме, что я думаю, когда открываю ее.

Great Content

We did this book as a group study. Our discussions were deep and each week we were moved by how closely our lives paralleled the chapters.
