A British murder mystery. Hugh Roystone, headmaster of Coriston boarding school, has a new young wife at the start of the summer term. Things should be going well for him, but cruel gossip about his wife – and then about him – intrude rudely into his life. Scandals involving drugs and sexual liaisons, and then an anonymous note about the Headmaster, bring Thames Police Superintendent Thorne and Sergeant Abbott to the school. Then allegations turn to murder, and things really look bad for the Headmaster.

An enjoyable mystery with a surprise twist. Good reading.

This is right up there with Agatha Christie. The culmination was a total surprise. Highly recommended for lovers of British mysteries.
