This is a brilliant series that has really captured my attention. Besides having a great plot, it’s the characters that really make this such a good read. I’ve really enjoyed following Pierce Landcross and some of the other characters through the last 5 books. I also like that the story is unpredictable, and it kept me guessing. Great entertainment.
Pierce Landcross had a pretty good life living on one of the Hawaiian Islands with his family. However, he became quite unsettled when he begun go have some quite distressing visions about people he knew and cared for. Grandmother Fey may have told him to ignore the visions, but that was impossible when they were so vivid. Whether his wife Taisia liked it or not, it looked like Pierce wasn’t going to have a choice in leaving his beloved island to see if he could prevent his friends coming to any harm. Even if he didn’t want to his journey was probably going to take him back to England. Luckily Pierce has people looking out for him along the way. With Gods, Witches and Elf’s around, he’s going to need all the help he can get. This story is full of adventure and intrigue and is definitely worth adding to your reading list. 5/5 Star Rating
It's hard to believe that this is the fifth book in the Legacy series that I have followed since book one. Where has the time gone? I do love a tale that should never end. A book or series like that is a treasure. Legacy is a treasure.
In THE FORGOTTEN STORY, we learn quite a bit about Pierce's fantastic ancestry. There is much more to this family than meets the eye, and, it would seem, that events are centering around Pierce and his growing family. He must, once again, go adventuring in places he never expected to visit again.
The saga of Pierce Landcross continues with more adventure and more of his backstory. I really hate to do spoilers, so I won't. I will say that you won't be disappointed if you read these books. They are a little bit steampunk and a little bit fantasy with a taste of mystery thrown in here and there. My thanks to Michelle E. Lowe for the hours of reading pleasure she has given to me.
I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. This is the 5th book I've read by the author and the 5th book I've read in this series.
This series has been entertaining throughout with great stories, wonderful characters, and a great flow. The continuing safa of Pierce Landcross, his family, and friends has become one of may favorite series. I'm continually surprised how Michelle Lowe manages to keep each story fresh and interesting while maintaining the connection to the previous story. Do yourself a favor and read this series, it has something for everyone.

About the Author: I'm a Georgia born native who has spent most my life near the Atlanta area before pulling up stakes and moving clear across the country with husband, Ben, and our two daughters. History piques my interests, especially European history. I’m a big nerd at heart. I read science-fiction and fantasy stories, and I love old B horror films. I also get a kick out of playing classic Atari video games, and I do oil painting as a hobby.
I’m a daydreamer and animal lover. I have two kitties, Nico and Max, and one very demanding guinea pig. I took up writing as a serious career choice twenty years ago, learning a lot and sharpening my skills along the way.
Other books by Michelle E. Lowe: Legacy (Legacy Series - Book 1), The Reunion (Legacy Series - Book 2), The Underground (Legacy Series - Book 3), Bounty Hunter (Legacy Series - Book 4), Spine Shivering Stories, Cherished Thief, Atlantic Pyramid, The Warning, The Hex Hunt, The Hex Hunt - Surviving the Sea, The Hex Hunt - The Island of the Sleeping Volcano, and Poe’s Haunted House Tour.
Recapping: I got a review copy of the first in this series (Legacy), after seeing in the description "Steampunk, Fantasy" and I did not think it had much of either, but the author told me that she added more as the series progressed. Fast forward to #5 in the series and in this one, the bar between fantasy and steampunk shifts to the left (fantasy) a bit.
The author has told me a bit about the writing of this series and had I not known that bit, I'd think there was some not inconsiderable time between the writing of this book and the last. Why? The storytelling matured. I'm not easy to surprise - I am usually running parallel threads in my head about what's coming (along with other ADD stuff) and the story-line engaged me more than usual. And I was surprised...but I don't spoil, so read it!
Set in a familiar Victorian world, it is still quite different, as it should be. What seemed like anachronisms in the earlier books are accepted easily now. Intrigue, adventure, more maddening teased hints and more revelations. The protagonist is older, yet still young. The allies stalwart, the enemies considerable. As I said, engaging. I am quite curious as to how it ends and I've got a double leg flight tomorrow heading off to a vacation so I guess I'll have plenty of time to find out!
This is the 5th book in the Legacy series. I am so pleased that Pierce and Kaisia got a break from the stress and drama of Pierce's ancestry and bizarre fate. In the middle of his idyllic island home, he begins getting terrifying visions. His friends are being raped, tortured and murdered. It all seems so real but Grandmother Fey said it was just Freya trying to trick him and to ignore them. But when he brings back an autumn leaf from one vision and is wounded in another, he just cannot ignore them. Grandmother finally concedes that they are real and he can save them but he will probably die doing it. Pierce being Pierce he is never going to just let his mates die horribly. So off he goes back into the lion's den.
His children are adorable. Kaisia is fierce as ever. Clover and Archie are back as well as Frederica and Nico and even ROBIN!! This book was the shortest one and it actually surprised me when there was no next page! It was really a novelette. It did packed a huge punch and left me hanging. I can't wait for the last one!
