Zachariah Wahrer spent the first twelve years of his adult life doing various jobs around the United States, such as eBay salesman, punk rock musician, horse halter craftsman, and rock climbing gym route-setter.
Near the end of 2014, Zachariah moved into a Honda Odyssey with his wife, Sarah, and began traveling the United States and Canada, seeking inspiration and adventure while writing and rock climbing full-time. His first novel, Breakers of the Dawn: Book 1 of the Dawn Saga, was electronically published in December of 2014.
When not deeply immersed in imaginary worlds, Zachariah loves to experience the outdoors as well as read about science, futurology, and trans-humanism. He also enjoys home-brewing and creating digital art to accompany his writing.
Unfortunately, this saga is more of unfinished draft rather than finished novel.
Characters, places and encounters proceed in one streamlined, linear manner, with little to no connection between the elements, branching of storyline or memorable cliffhangers.
The setting is the only feature which saves this work - worldbuilding is done more or less robustly and extensively.
All the flashy toys of science fiction are here - nanites, hive mind, virtual reality, ion slugs etc, but overall - this good saga lacks deepness.
For example, it was interesting to read about ancient space suit, its origin, history and usage. I think adding more artifacts of this kind, with glimpses into their glorious and mysterious past and life accounts of their owners leaving more questions than answers, would greatly increase deepness and richness of the story.
Instead, and this tendency shows up regularly in the book, it, and other abstract "powers", obscure abilities and outlandish perks, were more often than not used to suddenly aid in peril, quickly handle deadlock or patch up unexpected deliverance!
Linear, shallow and... having great potential. In other words - solid draft for good space opera.
