Are you living a hurried life, craving more, yet simultaneously longing for less? In this 31-day devotional you will find relatable stories, encouragement, questions for reflection, prayers, and daily practical action to help you move towards a more purposeful and peaceful life. The Slow Down, Mama devotional compliments the book, Slow Down, Mama: Intentional Living in a Hurried World and can be read alone, alongside the book, or before or after the book to reinforce the life-giving habits in the book. You were made for more than life on a hamster wheel. You can develop a lifestyle that centers around what matters most.
Patty Scott dreamt of being a writer before she could even set words on paper. She loves writing happily ever after stories and scenes where kisses make you melt a little. She also loves to write non-fiction books that help moms navigate motherhood, grow in their faith, and find joy in life.
Patty’s fictional characters experience real life struggles, misunderstandings, and hurts, but they make their way through and find love in the end. Patty delights in bringing her sense of humor into a story. No two characters are alike, and no story is ever like another. Patty’s relatable characters make her stories come to life.
Patty and her husband have two boys aged 11 and 18. They also have a 22-year-old foster daughter. Her joys when she isn’t writing are hiking, sharing conversation and a good cup of coffee with friends, dancing Hip Hop, and taking spontaneous road trips.
Patty has a Facebook community for moms called The Encouraging Motherhood Community and a page for her readers at Patty H Scott/Author. You are welcome to join her there
Slow Down, Mama: Thirty-One Days to Help you Slow and Savor is not just for mothers. It is a practical devotional for anyone who struggles with overwhelm, being too busy, and not knowing how to handle their time. As a retired woman without children I could relate to each of her devotions. Each devotional is short beginning with a story from Scott's life, a suggestion on how to cope with your own struggle, a question for reflection, a prayer, and something to consider or do for just a day.
For instance in one devotional she talks about being self employed seemed to put too much stress on her. Then she suggests how we can change our habits by shifting our behavior just a little. She asks her reader what little thing can you change and suggests reaching out for help. Her prayer is simple and practical.: "Lord help me release habits which do not support the purposes and call You have put on me." And finally she asks the reader to consider what practices might replace the habit you want to change and who could support you?
This is a beautifully written, concise book. Each devotional is a fast read. This companion to Slow Down Mama might make a great study for Mothers of Pre School Children, or parenting groups. But I also found it applied to me.
I am fond of companion books and this one is no exception. Slow Down Mama: Thirty-One Days to Help You Slow and Savor is a beautiful complement to the book Slow Down Mama. Author Patty Scott is devoted in her mission to support moms who are struggling with the hustle and bustle of Life. Whether you practice religion or not, this devotional will speak to ANY mom who needs encouragement and camaraderie in her daily living. Scott is gentle, compassionate, and understanding as she guides us one day at a time toward intentional living. This devotional is a helpful and blessed step in a hectic journey.
This is a great devotional for the busy mom, with a quick story or lesson, a prayer, and an application for each day. You do not need to have read the book first, as I didn't. In fact, from what little I've read of the book so far, I have almost found this devotional more practical. I also enjoyed the formatting of the ebook with a quote or Bible verse at the top of each 2 or 3 page devotional.
I love the format of this book! Each day is a short, deep, insightful reading, filled with grace and truth. Patty encourages moms not to overfill their schedules with more “to-dos” and, in turn, doesn’t make her book into another formidable “to-do”. It’s quick, easy to read, and so full of good truth! Love it from start to finish!
