बहुविधावादी रचनाकारों की किसी खास विधा की रचना को अधिक प्रभावी देखकर अक्सर लोग उन्हें उसी खाते में डाल देते हैं। धीरे-धीरे वह रचनाकार भी अपने को उसी विधा में केन्द्रित कर लेता है और अन्तिम रूप से वह एक विधा का होकर रह जाता है। उदाहरण खोजने में ज्यादा श्रम की आवश्यकता नहीं पड़ेगी। एक खोजें तो दस मिलेंगे। पर ऐसा राजकमल चौधरी के साथ नहीं हुआ। हालाँकि लोगों ने प्रयास कम नहीं किया। इनके नाम लाख गाली-गलौज लिखने के बावजूद कुछ ने उनके कवि रूप को श्रेष्ठ माना, कुछ ने कथाकार रूप को।
