Four Horsemen #3

Hitting The High Note

Rate this book

Meet the four horsemen: Michael, Gabrielle, Uriel and Raphael.

For centuries their sole purpose has been guarding the sealed gates to hell. Without keys, there was never any real threat. That was about to change...

Uriel could pass for a cowboy – straight out of an aftershave commercial – at least in appearance. With a trusty lasso at his side, he'll take on all comers in a fight to the finish in order to prove his worth. There's no heading home empty-handed, when he already lives in the shadows of his siblings. A couple of days and a handful of puns is all he needs to make sure that doesn't happen.

Bekka knows exactly what it's like to be invisible and has her best friend, Veronica, to thank for it. All her life, she's been too frightened to seize the moment, especially when it came to her music and love. A chance meeting with a cowboy, and then a gentleman, turns her world upside down, leaving her with a choice that changes all of their lives.

Personalities clash and secrets are revealed in this third installment of the Four Horsemen Series.

About the author!

I was diagnosed with clinical depression after the loss of my mother, father and husband within three years of each other; all to cancer. 24/7 in-home care, coupled with the loss I felt, left its mark on my psyche.

Depression takes up a lot of my life. Reading and writing are the only things I have found that help (in connection with regular medication), even if only for a short time. To escape to a different world can make a big difference in my mood in real time.

To put things in perspective, when I was at my lowest point, I couldn't open mail, talk on the phone, or even drive to the store. Walls of sadness surrounded me. As they closed in, tears would fall. There didn't need to be a reason or trigger.

People ask me why I started writing. My answer is simple: I wanted to create a world into which other people with similar problems could escape. I wanted to share the one place that had helped me for many years.

I have always said that as long as one person finds a little bit of happiness out of my books, I am, in my opinion, an accomplished author. The same is true for every writer out there. Please don't ever let anyone tell you different.

I read books as well as write them and have visited the worlds many different authors have created. Those worlds not only make me feel better, but give me the strength to face real life again. I want to thank everyone who writes - I want them to know they are making a difference.

Thank you for reading and writing.

“The guardians of the four gates remained faithful to their cause through the ages – seeking out and destroying demons trying to free their forefather from the confines of the hell he had been sentenced to live in. Thousands of years later, a new threat appeared on the horizon...”

Well played, Ms. King. Well played indeed! I definitely didn’t see those twists coming. Sneaky and oh so clever!! My anticipation level is set on HIGH for what the next book will reveal.
Hitting the High Note is the third book in The Four Horsemen series by C.A King. I have seriously loved all Ms. King’s books- but there is just something about this series which has really captured my imagination. I love where it is leading, and the twist/s in this book had my mind reeling with possibilities and leaping to conclusions. I love the bridging story which spans the entire series, as well as each ‘individual couples’ story- there is so much going on, in a great way- and Ms. King orchestrates everything incredibly well. As with the other two books, this story drew me in and I soon lost all sense of time and place, as I was plunged into a fantastic adventure.
This series is Ms. King’s take/twist on the four horsemen legend- and what she has produced is a wonderfully imaginative urban fantasy that has action, adventure, demigods, demons, good vs evil, mystery, suspense, drama, danger, scheming, jealousy, hidden agendas, set-ups, truth, brotherhood, camaraderie, humour, and a sweet romance.
Uriel (Uri) is one of the 4 horsemen of legend, who we discovered back in book one, are real- and along with his 2 brothers and 1 sister, have been tasked with guarding the gates to hell. Uri is the joker of the group, always quick with the funny quips and banter. But there is much more to him than the goofy cowboy he comes across as- as we soon discover in this book. When his ‘investigation, places him in the path of a feisty red head, he thinks she’s antagonistic and rude.
Bekka is a talented musician, with performance anxiety. She yearns to be brave enough to one day play in an orchestra, but in the meantime, she spends her days running her music supply store, which has been in her family for generations. There have been a spate of break and enters in the neighbourhood recently which has her concerned- she may wish for a little more excitement, but not that type of excitement. When she comes across Uriel in the neighbourhood, their encounter doesn’t end well, thanks to her social awkwardness and his protective nature. She thinks he’s overbearing and egotistical. So, what happens when danger comes calling and secrets are revealed? Things definitely aren’t what they seem in this captivating story. The few twists certainly had me sitting up and taking notice. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us in “When the Paint Dries”. Bring on Book 4!!!!
Fantastic!!!

Thank you, Ms. King!

Hitting The High Note (A Four Horsemen Novel Book 3) by C.A. King is a fantasy paranormal story and another wonderful addition to a series that I have loved, C. A. does not disappoint. This series just captivates and ensnares you and you are always hanging waiting for the next adventure. This is a different take on the Four Horsemen and the legends/stories and C.A. does it brilliantly, you just never know what you are going to get. I love the surprises that crept up on me and that added another dynamic. I love, love, love the characters who once again find themselves embroiled in danger and demons, action and drama, demigods and mates, chuck in a side order of romance and you have the basic food groups for a recipe for success.

Bekka keeps herself locked away from life and socially stunted but when she notices an ad in the paper her curiosity gets the better of her, but it is that and her jealously that finds her in a situation that she may not recover from.

Uriel, a Horsemen who along with his brothers and sister are chasing the means to keep the gates of hell closed. He looks things on the brighter side of life and is a little quirky and fun. He made me laugh. This cowboy is a bit of a drifter and is on the hunt for demons but he finds is the one thing he never knew he was looking for.

I am now wanting and waiting for the next instalment - When the Paint Dries.

"Humans have always required knowledge."

CONFESSION: This author is an auto one-click for me because I enjoy all of her books. I read these books based on the author's name alone.

Glad I got that out of the way...

HITTING THE HIGH NOTE is Book 3 of the Four Horsemen Series and it is my very strong recommendation that you read this series in order. This story is Uriel's and he may be my favorite sibling.

I do not want to give anything away in this story so I will continue to be vague, just know that there was an ad that said... "Demons and followers seeking the key to the gates of hell..." I mean, how can a story not be a 5 star read with THOSE words written into a paragraph.

I absolutely recommend this story, this series and this author.

This is the third book in this series, I recomend reading these books in order to help enhance your enjoyment of this series. The four horsemen’s journey continues and in this installment we get to see more of Uriel. His task is to protect everyone from the gates of Hell opening. But this could be a little more challenging than he expects. I loved the twists and turns that kept me turning pages. I highly recommend joining Uriel on his adeventure and you never know what might happen next

Hitting the High Note by C.A. King a five-star read that will have you hitting the high notes. This is number three in the Four Horseman Novels and its best to read them in order as it keeps you hooked and keeps you drawn in all the way, the author has done their own twist to the Four Horseman tale and just keeps it fresh and interesting. As always, this author makes you see the story portrayed in front of you, the descriptions are so detailed its like the story comes alive as you read it. The story between Bekka and Uriel will keep you on tenterhook’s, in fact the whole story does that but between them they do keep this story great.

Hitting the High Note is the third book in C.A. King’s fantasy series of Four Horsemen Novels. The series takes place in a modern day setting with a beautiful and elaborate mythology at its heart. There are demigods and demons, fighting over the fate of the world. There are horsemen and there are keys – soulmates tied together by their destiny.
As the title suggests, the protagonist of Hitting the High Note is a musician. Bekka has worked in her family music shop all her life, and it seems likely she will continue running it unless she plucks up the courage to audition for an orchestra. I enjoyed how the music was threaded through the plot – I’ve always been a fan of musical magic! I also appreciated Bekka’s taste for tea – the descriptions of her making and drinking tea made my mouth water!
This series is fantastic – the world is well developed and complex and the mythology links in with various familiar mythologies whilst still being unique and surprising. The characters at the centre of each book continue to appear in the background of subsequent books, so it’s great to catch up on them. And Uriel, the horseman this book focuses on, has already appeared in the past so I was eager to learn more of his character.
I would recommend reading the books in order, to get the full story, although King does a good job of reminding readers of what has happened so you could probably get away with reading this on its own if you’re particularly after a fantasy book about music.
For me, this is another five star book. It’s a great series, and I’m particularly excited about having a music-focused book! I’d recommend the series to fans of mythology and urban fantasy. Looking forward to reading the next one!

A great read about music. Bekka just wants to run her music shop and dreams of playing in an orchestra. Her plans are always put on hold and are disrupted by a series of robberies and a strange man dressed as a cowboy. As events unravel, she finds herself centre stage. Does music have a magic of its own?
A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns. Well developed characters like Uriel the jester but vulnerable underneath or Bekka standing up for herself but anxious underneath.
I loved the visual detial throughout the novel like with the shop with the glass and sheet music fluttering on the wind, making destruction beautiful. Or the scenes in the gala with the colourful dresses and music full of colour and sound that was so vivid it's as if you're actually there.
I liked how it was Uriel's story, switching the focus to another horseman for this book. The switch of perspectives worked well to display both sides of the story and was easy to follow with names in chapter titles. I also liked how the artefact was something different from the usual chalice or spear usually found in these kinds of books made it fresh and exciting. The only issue I would raise is that it felt unclear why Uriel was dressed as a cowboy as it felt unnecessary. Fast paced action and high stakes in a fantasy story made for a captivating read. Overall a great read and I would give it four stars.

Hitting The High Note (A Four Horsemen Novel Book 3) by C.A. King

5 out of 5 stars

Hitting the high note is the fourth book in the Four Horsemen series written by C.A. King is not the first book that I have read by this author. Her writing is unique and realistic that I couldn’t put this book down that I read it in one sitting especially with all the twist and turns. We meet the four horsemen: Michael, Gabrielle, Uriel and Raphael
Now we get to see what Uriel is made of his task is to protect everyone from the gates of Hell opening. For centuries their job has been to guard the gates of hell, making sure they never open. Without the keys, there was never any real threat. That's about to change. There are rumors on the horizon that demon followers unearthed scrolls that explain exactly how to find the lost keys. This new battle is a race to see which side locates them first.
Bekka wasn’t nice to Uriel when they met, she is a woman that loves music. However, she doesn’t socialize very well. Since meeting Uriel, she met another gentleman and now her life is turned upside down.
Can Uriel save Bekka? Will Bekka and Uriel make the right decisions? Will he be-able to stop the gates of hell being opened? Will they have a happily ever-after?
I highly recommend this amazing book/series but, please read all books in order…

I give Hitting The High Note (A Four Horsemen Novel Book 3) by C.A. King, 4 stars.

Bekka owns a small music store passed down through her family and must make ends meet in order to keep it running. But her love of music makes her even more determined to make sure this works. Unfortunately, her people skills are not that great. Part of her wishes she could be more like her best friend, Veronica. But Veronica has her own issues -- she is constantly searching for the one man to make her dreams come true. She has this pull -- this need -- to find the right one.

Uriel, one of the four horsemen, loves the wide openness of the country, but a lead takes him into the heart of the city. There he runs into all sorts of things telling him the demons are closer than he believed. Can he stop the demons from getting what they are after? Can he find it himself? What about these two girls who look like twins? Is what his family says true?

It has been quite a while since I have read book two, but I was quickly reminded just how much I like these books and characters. While the suspense part of the series continues, the love story part is quite different from the previous books. Just when you think the story will go one way, it surprises you and does something completely different. I love to be kept guessing in this way. And the fact that our favorite family is back makes it that much better. The author quickly draws you in and I eagerly await the next book to see what is next.

If you are a fan of the paranormal, I highly recommend this book and series.

Finally C.A. King is giving us Uriel’s story in her Hitting the High Note that is the third book in her Four Horsemen series! For the ones who are just now stumbling on the series, you need to read the stories in the order! Also, as a short reference to get your juices flowing, it is an interesting twist on the four horsemen legend – the writer gives us an urban fantasy with drama, adventure, demigods, jealousy, good versus evil, brotherhood, romance … I can keep going for ever!
Hitting the High Note is Uriel’s story! He is one of the four horsemen and he is one of the four guarding the gates to hell: “The guardians of the four gates remained faithful to their cause through the ages – seeking out and destroying demons trying to free their forefather from the confines of the hell he had been sentenced to live in. Thousands of years later, a new threat appeared on the horizon...”
His ‘person’ is Bekka and she was not so nice to him when they first met (and you need to read the story to find out why). She loves music and she does not like socializing and Uri comes and turns her life upside down … I promise you one heck of a ride where you do not know what might happen next! AND there is one more guardian left!

Hitting The High Note (A Four Horsemen Novel Book 3)
By: C.A. King
5 out of 5 stars

The story Hitting The High Note (A Four Horsemen Novel Book 3) by C.A. King is a paranormal/fantasy book. It is a story that will find you turning pages to find out what happens next. I enjoyed reading about the character of Uriel. He is one of the four horsemen. He wears a cowboy hat and doesn’t back down when conflict occurs. Bekka is a woman that loves music. She, however, doesn’t socialize very well. She wasn’t exactly nice when she met Uriel. She then meets a gentleman. Her meeting with both of them turns her world upside down. Will Uriel be able to help Bekka? Bekka has a choice to make. One that can change lives. Read this book to find out the full story of Uriel and Bekka. This book has action and danger. The story is written in such a way that I felt like I was right there with the characters. I also enjoyed that reading about the additional characters in the story. Some of them have been brought forward from the first two stories so they are familiar. Don’t miss out on a book that will take you on a journey that is exciting and intriguing. I highly recommend reading it.

I have really been enjoying these Four Horsemen Novels from CA King! I thought she had hit the highest note and written my favorite with book two but boom nope this book Hitting The High Note totally knocked my socks off and went for the favorite of the series. I love how CA King writes so vividly that I feel as if I am right there submerged in this alternate reality with the characters. I immensely enjoy the way she weaves the story lines of multiple characters from book to book while focusing on a separate couple in each.

In Hitting The High Note we get the story of another horsemen. Uriel, or more often called Uri. He is the fun one of the siblings and keeps things fun and lighthearted pretty much all the time, even in the worst of them. I found myself having a smile or giggle several times because of him. He is about to have his world shook though with a sassy and feisty redhead, Bekka, walks into his life and challenges his not so serious outlook on life. These two will keep you on your toes as they learn to love each other while they battle unseen twists and turns. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book!

Hitting The High Note (A Four Horsemen Novel Book 3) by C A King

5 Stars

I have loved the first 2 books of this series and this one follows right along, this could possibly be read as a standalone but I would absolutely not recommend it, there's too much you would be missing and there is a continuing story happening and building in the background.

This might be my favorite so far and that's hard to say because the first two were outstanding. I fell head over heels for Uriel, he made me smile often and Bekka had my emotions all over the place..I really liked her best friend and the twists in this book had me on the edge of my seat.

This book has me crazy thinking about what might happen in book four and I can not wait! Not going into any of the storylines as I don't want to ruin any of the books for someone else but just know one clicking this series is something you will not regret. I love this author, she has made me read books and look forward to books I don't normally read.

Loved it and can not wait for When The Paint Dries… I am seriously considering reading all of the first 3 over again so I can move right into 4 when the time comes..They are that good!!

Hitting The High Note (A Four Horsemen Novel Book 3) by C. A. King

5-Stars

Hitting The High Note (A Four Horsemen Novel Book 3) by C. A. King was an excellent addition to the series. It can be read as a standalone and provides enough detail for readers who have not read the first two books to prevent confusion. As seen with the other two novels, the author begins the book with a brief history of what led to the current issue with the keys from past events. This book focuses on Uriel, Veronica, and Bekka and their role in the main story searching for the keys. Uriel is portrayed as a hunky red headed cowboy while Veronica and Bekka look very similar to each other. Only one of them is the key though. This story was fascinating and very different from the first to books. I loved the change and enjoyed that the story still easily flowed from page one to the end. The characters were also easy to relate to and at times frustrating. This story carried me away and I read it in one sitting. I highly recommend this book and the series and can’t wait to see what the next book has in store.

Hitting the High Note (A Four Horsemen Novel Book 3) by C.A King
4 Stars

This is the third book in the series. Each book focuses on a particular horseman so technically you can read it as a stand-alone but I wouldn’t recommend it. There is an underlying storyline throughout the series so reading it from the beginning is a good idea. This story centres around Uriel. Their sole purpose of existence is to guard the gates of Hell and someone wants it open. While Uriel is hunting down demons, he comes across a damsel in distress and thinking himself a cowboy, comes to her aid. I think it’s hilarious that an archangel walks and talks like a cowboy. Saving her leads to adventure, danger and love.

Though it’s a quick read, a lot happens on these pages. The plot unfolds a little more, making you realize that there is more going on than you originally believed. Looking forward to reading the next in the series.

By C.A. King

Amazing!!!! I have really been enjoying this series and getting to know all of the horsemen so I was looking forward to Uriel’s story and I was absolutely blown away by it and I have to say this is definitely my favourite so far! The author really did an amazing job with this new instalment – I really was hooked from beginning to end. There were some extremely unexpected twists and even now I keep thinking back and how I honestly just did not see some of the things coming at all! The book is very cleverly written! I loved Uriel, I don’t think he was what I was quite expecting to be honest and Bekka was a surprise also! I loved getting to know their characters.
I am so, so excited to see where Ms King is going to take book 4 in the series – I cannot wait! Her writing is so vividly detailed that her books are a real pleasure to read at all times! I 100% recommend this book and the series as a whole!

Hitting The High Note by C.A. King is the third book in the Four Horseman Series. This is a fantastic series that I cannot recommend highly enough!
In this book we get the story of Uriel. Like the previous books this one instantly grabbed my attention. I was straight back into this world and the lives of the characters. This book is so exciting. It is filled with twists and turns the whole way through. I thought I had an idea of what might happen after book 2 however C.A. King has performed her usual magic and taken me on a completely different journey.
I love the way the author has combined the stories so that in each book we get more details of one particular sibling while also getting to know a bit more about the others. For me it has added a depth to the series that I think a lot tend to lack. This author has definitely become a one click author for me and I would urge everyone to give her work a try!

Hitting the High Note is the third book in the Four Horsemen series. Read the previous books in order to get a good grasp on the story thus far.

I enjoyed this story so much. I can totally relate to the part of Bekka that, in her words, “shouldn’t be allowed in public.” I’ve said that about myself so many times. Up until now, we haven’t heard much from Uriel, so it was good to see what he’s really like. Who doesn’t like a man who can use a lasso???

Be prepared for some interesting twists. Everything may not be what it seems.

As with the previous books, the story held my attention and I read it all in one night. I appreciate the thought that went into creating the unique aspects of the powers and the creation myth.

I highly recommend this series. I’m looking forward to the next book so I can find out how it all ends!

I've read several books from this author and this series doesn't disappoint. The previous books follow Michael and Gabrielle as they find the keys and their mates to stop the gates of Hell opening. This book follows Uriel, who we haven't seen almost at all in the series so far. He's funny and a cowboy. There are a lot of twists and turns in this one, plot wise and character wise. Sometimes, you think you're fighting something and have your motivations questioned. I thought some of the characters were one thing and they'd later redeem themselves. That wasn't the case. Throughout the entire series, I thought certain characters were bad, and they might redeem themselves later in the series. all the hallmarks of a great series overall

Hitting the High Note ( A four Horsemen Novel Book 3) By C.A. King
5 Stars!!!!!

This is the third book in the series and I have been eager to read it. The fight continues and the search for the key aka their mates continues. I really like how the author writes her take on the four horsemen of the apocalypse. The take that they are good is very unique.

This book is Uriel's story and I really like how the author does not make it obvious and throws in little twists. I really like how the romance is underlying in this story and that there is just enough drama and a bit of mystery thrown in. I like how this story was not so straight forward and had a bit of twist. I really look forward to reading the next and finale book in this series and more from this author.

This is the third entry in this series and follows the horseman, Uriel. This time the theme is music and he must find his mate to help stop recurring foe, Dante, from unleashing his plan. Much like the previous two books there is a formula but also enough differences and twists to keep it unique.

I particularly liked this outing the best so far just because of those differences. There were plenty of surprises where you wondered if you as the reader could predict the outcome. There was also a lot more revealed about the overall series plot!

It's also possible I just liked this one more because it revolved around a violin.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing how the final book unfolds.

Hitting the High Note by C.A. King is the third book in A Four Horsemen Novel series. I recommend reading the series in order because the books do build onto one another. Uriel, a modern day cowboy, steps in to help make sure the keys to unseal hell are not found. Bekka runs into the man of her dreams, or is he? Her decisions can change the world as we know it. I have enjoyed this series immensely and this did not disappoint. I always enjoy a book by C.A. King but this is my favorite series so far. The characters are wonderful, there are twists and turns, and enough going on to keep me on the edge of my seat.

Hitting The High Note (A Four Horsemen Novel Book 3) by C. A. King. I love a book that can take me bu surprise and this one definitely lived up to that. It’s got twists I didn’t see coming. I have truly loved every minute of this series and I do recommend them to be read in order. The adventure the author takes readers on its at times mind blowing. The characters are all so detailed and you can’t help but sink in to their story. It’s well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. I’m so excited to see where the author takes readers next. If you’re looking for something a bit different then I recommend this series and book to you. Four stars!

Hitting the High Note is the third book in C.A. King’s A Four Horseman Novel. I cannot say enough about the series. C. A. King is one of my favorite authors and she does not disappoint with Hitting the High Note. I would highly recommend reading the first two books. That would give you insight to the series. The characters are fully developed and could see them in the real world, to a point. In this book, Uriel is tasked with not letting the gates of hell open. Uriel cannot imagine how hard this task may actually be. There are twists and turns around every bend. I hope you enjoy this story. I can only hope that Uriel will keep the gate of hell closed.

I loved this story of one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, Uriel. Protecting the world from the dangers of hell's gates opening is his job, little does he know he may get more than he bargained for when he meets Bekka, the owner of a small music shop. This story has it all: humor, action, intrigue, things and people not being what they seem, and perhaps an opportunity of a soul mate. Just when it looks like the reader has it all figured out, the tides are turned, a specialty of Ms. King's writing.

This is the third story In this series. Flowers and writing have been found but music is Uriel's story. This is full of action, suspense and some fun. I enjoyed this the more I read. It has been a bit since the last one and I forgot all about Dante and his quest. I am back up to speed with everyone and their mates as well as what Dante is planning. This is a fast moving enjoyable story filled with wit, fun and suspense. I liked getting to read Uriel’s part in all this and how he reacted to his mate.
I see Raphael’s story is last and we get to read the conclusion of this four part series.

This is the third book in the Four Horseman series and it did not disappoint. The story of Uriel and Veronica had some really interesting twists and turns as they found their way to each other. I really enjoyed following them on the journey. As for this series, each new story adds more pieces to the puzzle of what Dante is looking for. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series so that I can, hopefully, find the answer. I am never disappointed with a C.A. King novel and I do not think you will be either. I do recommend this book.

I'm thoroughly enjoying this 4 book fantasy series. This is book number 3 and I recommend reading them in order. It has certainly set things up well for the fourth and final installment.
The series is a twist on the four horsemen tasked with guarding the gates to hell legend. The stories are set in modern times and each book firmly puts one of the horsemen at the center although they do work as a team. This book puts Uriel center stage but also raises the questions about all the four of them believe.
Looking forward to the final showdown with Dante in book 4.
