Spoilers ahead

Ok I've seen the great reviews so I'll be brief

What the hell is with the writing style lol, omg it tried so hard to be dramatic and failed miserably. This was clearly a ME issue but wow this didn't work for me at all

Second chance
H/h were together before when she had to disappear from his life without a trace
He had sex with OW she was celibate
I couldn't fault him for moving on but the scene (not sexual) with the OW at the beginning was just so crass and disgusting
From the very moment he met her again he was a goner
h was physically attacked in the past and again here

I liked the story.

This book has so much potential and i liked the story in its self . But who ever edited this book did a really poor job because the names of the characters kept changing and some sentences didnt even make sense. I'd love for it to be reedited and grammar and spelling to be fixed. I'm not one to judge because i can't spell to save my self and i often , ok always mix up my own kids names nine times out of ten. Lol but all in all i really enjoyed the story and I've one clicked book two because like i said i enjoyed the story and the charactors and I'd like to see what happens next.

This is MC lite.

This MC does good for the community, feeding the hungry, helping abused women and children, building playgrounds, and running a mechanic shop. It features sexy twin brothers, their saucy sister, and handful of other side characters that are folded into the story like family.

Has a very KA feeling to the overall story complete with silly ow drama, alpha men and the women they need to protect.
“Oh sweetheart - with that smile you could walk me right up to the gates of hell and I wouldn’t even bitch about the heat.”
I love a good second chance romance. While the dialogue was occasionally choppy and the plot felt slightly disorganized, I loved the overall idea of this story.

High school sweethearts, unwillingly separated. The H has ow after a time, but the h stays celibate for eleven years. (I hate that) But when they find each other again, phew, it was awesome. There’s no hinting, no games, they are simply two souls that remember the love they once shared.
My eyes never left his. His hand came up as I walked closer. When I got close enough, his hand came up and curled around the back of my neck. He held me there for just a second while we looked at each other. I could feel the tears starting down my face. I reached up and touched his arm.... “Are you home, baby?” he asked me.

“Now I am. Forever.”
It’s overly dramatic, has an eye-rolling ending, and has a ‘soap opera’ feel to the storytelling. It was a cheesy comfort read that I recommend to fans of lighter MC stories.

I tried. I kept going away, coming back, but just couldn’t manage.

FMC, has only ever sexually been with him, huge gap in between. So in love with him, blah blah.
Unrealistic recovery time to serious injuries, unrealistic ability to deal with it all.

MMC, slept with countless women, one not long before FMC reappears. Treats and thinks of other women poorly.
Saints and whores trope.
Magic dick trope.
Unbelievably obtuse. Even with all the clues available, still fails to grasp the obvious, or even close.
Knows he’s behaved like a total dick, two seconds later forgives himself.

If the FMC had had an actual sex life, half this wouldn’t be an issue. If women weren’t slut shamed, while the males were hero’s, again, could forgiven chunks of it.

But all that combined with very clunky dialogue and a cheesy storyline, was too much.
Awesome fur babies, but aren’t featured anywhere near enough to have kept me going.

I loved this one!
It was amazing. A beautiful second chance romance.
It had everything that I love about an MC romance and so much more.
Strong women and amazingly hot bikers. I can't wait to read the next book and whatever Cee has to offer me.

This book is to wordy for me. I gave it two stars instead of one because there were some funny parts. It needs editing. The typos disrupt the reading. I was just bored with this one.

For this book challenge, I am doing one of the prompts is to read a book set in Texas. When I was looking for books set in Texas, I found this book, and the synopsis sounded interesting. This could have been a really good book if it had been edited correctly. What really bothers me is that this book was edited and released in 07/2020. It honestly still needs to be edited.

I noticed that there was nothing telling you who's POV it was, and you just had to figure it out as you read. I noticed that the FMC Carlie's POV was written in first person but everyone else's POV was written in third person. I noticed that sometimes she uses connotations and other times she didn't, and it interrupted the flow of the writing. I noticed that some of the things the characters said were really weird due to the words used.

For example:

“I’m head over ass in love with you.” Why would you say ass instead of heels?

"At first I thought he was going to fall out, but then he slammed into the office." Fall out? Why put it that way?

"You don’t need cat food, sister, you need God on your side with this one.” Really it is a cat not a demon 🙄

The joke about the cat was repeated throughout the book. I did not even think that it was funny the first time for it to be repeated so many times. I think the author was trying to be funny, but she failed miserably. There were a ton of other weird phrases used throughout the book that were difficult to ignore. This was my first book by this author and my last because I can't get over how badly edited the book was.

Carlie Jenkins never wanted to leave Sam Duke, in fact she had decided to no longer run when the man determined to kill her was near. However, she had to run in order to protect those she loved. Now years later she is back with her makeshift family in tow and she is hoping Sam will forgive her. Determined to root her life in Rojo, Texas.

Sam has had a hard time letting Carlie go, she left him without a word and she had been the love of his life. Now she is back and he wants answers, he doesn't plan to restart a relationship with her but he wants a why to all the pain she caused. Finding out why she left though has Sam determined to move away from the past and keep Carlie close by his side. However danger is still out there and he is determined to keep her safely by his side.

This was a bit of surprise for me, was not what I expected from Sam and Carlie. There story was a bit of a tear jerker at times when Carlie had to relive her past. Some new characters introduced that I am anxious to read about. Entertaining.

This one...man it really got to me, from the first when Carlie comes home and she is unsure about so much, to reuniting with her BFF's, to seeing her first (and only love) again. So many heartbreaking moments. But none of that was anything until Carlie started telling everyone why she ran, it was an ugly scene that caused Carlie to lash out, yelling at what her actions saved everyone and what they cost her. From there things settled down and everyone decided to let the past be the past and be happy for the present when they all were together again. Things were great, so great, until the past came to bitch slap them all. I loved how everyone pulled together to figure out where their lost person was and even better was how they found them.

The ending had me smiling, Carlie so much deserves happiness in her life, along with everyone else.

This is My first book by this author. I loved the storyline and the characters! I can't wait to go onto the next book.
However, the book is in need of an editor of proof reader. I still loved it.

I like reading a Cee Bowerman book – there’s always something fascinating going on. The plot in Home Forever is good and solid. The writing style feels not quite yet established but is still good. On researching, I found the original publication date was 03/05/2019. There were some unhappy readers, and I read through some of their equally unhappy reviews. There was a theme in the 1- and 2-star reviews: a lack of good editing, missing MC involvement, misspelled words, changes in POV, too long/wordy, character name changes, grammar errors, typos.

One of the things I find impressive is that the book was reedited and rereleased in July 2020. It seems that many of the issues pointed out have been corrected, although there are a few remaining “oopsies.” Happily, it appears the book was indeed reedited. I did not read the initial publication, but there is the presence of an editorial hand in this release. The plot is smooth, unwinding in a way that keeps a reader invested and motivated to keep reading. The MC involvement is definitely here, and the Texas Knights seem like a good motorcycle club – the brotherhood is tight and while we don’t have a lot of MC interaction, it is an important backdrop to this character-driven story.

There are still grammar errors, one in particular that is a peccadillo that I do not like reading: it’s the sit/set grammar rule. “Sit” is used for animate objects (people, animals sit). “Set” is used for inanimate objects (bottles, boxes set). That’s the rule and it’s violated time and again throughout the book. For instance:
 “She…picked up the bottle and took a long swig before she sat it down.” This should read, “…before she set it down.”
 Some boxes have arrived, and Lisa says, “…we can sit them out back.” That should read, “…we can set them out back.”
 Carlie is talking about money: “…all the rest sat in an account…” That should be, “…all the rest set in an account.”
 “I sat the water on the table…” Water is an inanimate object; this should read: “I set the water on the table…”
There are other instances, but these get the point across.

Another error in grammar is the use of subject pronouns (I, he, she) for object pronouns (me, him, her). The reverse is also true: object pronouns are sometimes used for subject pronouns. In the vernacular, when characters are speaking for instance, this can be fairly common, as in “Her and me are going to the movie.” This is incorrect grammar, but pretty common in informal speech. During narration, however, correct grammar should be used. For instance:
 “…I had been on double dates with she and her boyfriend…” The pronoun, “she,” is a subject pronoun used as an object, and it should be “her.” This should read, “…with her and her boyfriend.” A rule of thumb (in this example) is to remove what follows the first pronoun and see how the sentence reads: “…I had been on double dates with she…” That’s just wrong…and it sounds wrong, too.
 “She had moved Joe and I from Kansas to Texas…” Here, the subject pronoun, “I,” is used as an object and is incorrect. This should read, “She had moved Joe and me from Kansas to Texas…”
 “Sam and Jade were now surrounding Kari and I.” Here, a subject pronoun ("I”) is used as an object. This should read: “…were now surrounding Kari and me.” To hear how wrong this is, remove the “Kari and” part of the phrase and listen to what remains: “Sam and Jade were now surrounding I.” Weird. It sounds—and is—wrong.
 “…to the hospital with Joe and I.” A subject pronoun (“I”) is used as an object pronoun in a prepositional phrase. This should read, “…to the hospital with Joe and me.”
There are other examples of this subject/object pronoun issue, but these are enough.

Additional issues include:
 The rule behind using “who” vs. “that” is also broken: “…someone that knows somebody.” While CMOS (Chicago Manual of Style) and the Associated Press Stylebook and Webster’s dictionary allow the use of “what” to refer to people, it’s groups of people, not one person. The sentence I reference here is about one person (“someone”) and the word, “who,” would be the better choice: “…someone who knows somebody.” To use “that” instead needs something like this: “…the people that know somebody.” Get the difference? Yeah. Me, too.
 I believe this is a typo: “Not much to talk abou.” There’s a missing “t” in “about.”
 A sentence has one verb too many: “Watching Bill waste away as the cancer took him had brought Sam and his siblings grew even closer.” I think this is an editing error where the sentence was changed, but a part of the initial sentence (“grew”) remains. This should read, “…brought Sam and his siblings even closer.” The word, “grew,” is superfluous and stops a reader’s momentum.
 A preposition is missing: “He checked for traffic again and headed Sam’s direction.” That should read, “…headed in Sam’s direction.”
 Punctuation is missing here: “You…hate cats, Clairee” Uncle Joe put his two cents in. The period is missing after “Clairee.” That should read, “You…hate cats, Clairee.” (followed by the action tag.)

The book is still too long with too much repetition. Conversations—and I think Ms. Bowerman’s more recent dialogues are some of the best in books today—are overly long here. People rarely speak in paragraphs unless making a long and drawn-out point (which we all do at times). Here, however, the conversations are often in paragraphs packed with rehashed information we already know. Here’s one example:
“I want to call Chandler. See if he can get the skinny on some plates. I saw two cars around the bank after you had your thing. The Kansas one and another just seemed out of place. One of them was also on the road when we left the store. Small town, but not that small, you know?”

We’ve read all this before, including the comment about Rojo being a small town, but not. This can be a conundrum for a writer. Readers already know what a character in the book may not yet know. In this book, there’s a lot of this type of reiteration. There are several solutions to getting the intel to a character without rehashing what the writer has already told us. An editor should have caught these and offered some suggestions (IMHO).

Finally, I’m not a fan of first-person POV. It feels false to me. And there’s never any suspense. If we’re reading in a character’s POV, then the character is okay and has gotten through whatever terrible trials and tribulation are coming their way, and have lived to tell us the tale. But switching back and forth between first and third person POV is distracting in the extreme. Pick one POV and stick with it. If we need to be a part of multiple characters’ thoughts, then consider third person subjective omniscient (and for goodness’ sake: follow the rules – otherwise, there’s too much head-hopping!) or third person objective omniscient (which is like a movie camera—showing, not telling—and no peeking at a character’s thoughts, but facial expressions and body language are fair game). When written well, these two third person POVs are insanely delightful to read!

I rated this book 3.5-stars and rounded up because the storyline is good and holds a reader’s attention. I like the characters, too. Sam is head over heels in love with Carlie, and she is the same. The second chance trope is done well, and the supporting characters help support the two main characters’ second chance. I’ve read a lot of Ms. Bowerman’s books, but not the Texas Kings series. I’ll definitely keep reading this series, too.

The good, and there is so much good. Great heroine strong and wonderful. Amazing hero. Wonderful secondary characters who are valuable to the story. Can't wait to get to know them. True Love. Yes, I'm saying it true love.

Carley is heading back to the town in Texas she had to run from 11 years ago at age 19. She's with her Uncle Joe and her assistant/friend Lisa.
She's been through a lot. Her parents were killed by mafia when she was an adolescent, the hit man kept gunning for her and chased her through the years. They landed in Texas where she met Sam and settled into life with friends and Sam's family and extended M.C. family. He was the love of her life and she wasn't planning to run ever again. She was going to tell him about herself when something happens and she must leave because her new love and friends are truly in danger if she stays.

Now she's back, the danger is gone and she's planning on staying in the only place that has ever felt like home. It was great watching her re-aquint herself in town. The anticipation of what would happen when they finally come face-to-face again was keeping me on pins and needles and it was so beautiful when it happens (at about 30% in).

I just loved it, I loved how they were together, the things they said how much they loved each other. It was a great story.

The bad: There's nothing wrong with the story or the characters. It was mainly poor editing and it really stood out. Words missing or the wrong name used that makes you go back and re-read the sentence.

Possible triggers: The h was never with anyone else, the H had sex only encounters over the years but no relationships. And nothing on-page.

Observation: It's labeled an M.C. but aside from the men riding bikes and some of the club people pitching in during a crisis there isn't much M.C. stuff. It didn't bother me but some people might notice.

Sweet MC Romance

I seem to be on a bit of an MC kick at the moment and this popped up as a recommended series to read. I decided to start at the beginning and found a really sweet MC romance.

Carlie is moving back to Rojo, Texas after an 11 year absence. Her life is finally getting back on track after the trauma of recent years and she can’t wait to see the people she loved but had to leave behind.

Sam has been waiting to find out what happened to Carlie for 11 years. He’s never been able to find someone who could make him feel the way Carlie did and hates never knowing what happened to make her leave without warning.

Carlie returns with her uncle, her friend/assistant Lisa and her rescue pit bull, Tuff, desperate to start the rest of her life.

This is a sweet romance and the MC is of the ‘doing good’ variety, which is about community and supporting those less fortunate. The trouble that comes is from the outside and is nothing to do with the MC. In fact the MC isn’t very front and centre in this book, it’s just there around the edges of the story.

I really enjoyed the book, which sounds odd for a 3 star review, but it was a good book, there just wasn’t much tension or progression of the characters. Bad things were talked about but didn’t seem to have much impact on the characters or their journey. This is not necessarily a bad thing, if you are looking for a nice soothing escape from reality without any angst, which I sometimes am. I will probably read other books in the series when I’m in the same mood, though according to star ratings this was the lowest rated book in the series.

Disappointing

It started out great, but it went to hell at about 50%.

The story had potential, but it lost momentum after they got back together.

The writing was good enough at first but then it became riddled with typos, sometimes she even mixed up characters’ names. It reminded me of that feeling I get when I’m painting and just want to finish, and get so impatient that I ruin everything.

It was like she didn’t know where to take the story after they get their big reunion, and even the reunion wasn’t that good. It was free of any kind of drama and too sterile to feel like honest human interactions, the characters were too good and too forgiving for actual human beings which made them unrealistic.

Love this! 🔥 scenes, 🔥 characters and ❤️ never forgotten

Start of a MC series that focuses on brotherhood, protecting those they love and doing good in the community. I discovered Cee Bowerman through another series and just had to go back and read her previous works.

There are some scenes and topics that will be triggers for sensitive readers. Examples are listed below, as well as any other issues.

I loved this story! Cee builds the world organically from the ground up. There are multiple POVs which I believe makes it that much more believable. While this does have darker themes for the characters to overcome, it is not about an outlaw MC. The club was founded by Sam’s and Zeke’s father and a few others that had a love of motorcycles, brotherhood, family and helping others that need it.

This is the story of the one that left and the struggles that they had moving on. Carlie and Sam met when she lived in Rojos Texas for a few years as a teen and they were inseparable. Then at 19 her past caught up with her and she had to disappear. Fast forward a little over 10 years and she returns to reclaim her life in the town that felt like home with hopefully everyone that she loves. She knows that it is likely Sam has married and had a family, and while it would be very painful, all she wants is for him to be happy.

So she buys a house and makes the first step by reaching out to her coven. The two best friends that she also had to leave behind. Carlie knew they would be mad, but she was pleasantly surprised that they had never forgotten her and still celebrated with her (silently) but documented everything so she could catch up (LOL some of their sharing moments and theories). They just never gave up and knew she would return at some point.

Then Carlie got the nerve to do the thing she had been thinking of every moment since she had to leave … she goes to see Sam. The love of her life. The only man for her in every way. She enters his garage and quickly realizes that he is not alone. There is a skinny blonde wrapped around him …

⛔️ The series contains references to, or scenes detailing, subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some, including: adult language; derogatory terms; mental health challenges; steamy adult intimate scenes with dominance, submission, spanking for pleasure and punishment, restraints, “bottom” play, breath play, sensory deprivation, voyeurism, exhibitionism, etc.; violence such as kidnapping, abduction, murder, death, torture, assault, fighting, betrayal, coercion, blackmail, threats, subterfuge, money laundering, gun running, cheating, prostitution, human trafficking, mafia / cartels, arson, drug use, drug addiction, drug manufacturing, drug distribution, as well as the mental, physical and sexual abuse of females and/or children, etc.

** Caution: Contains scenes with reference to, or detailed graphic violence against females and children that fit into the storyline, but may be a trigger for some **

There are very few grammatical issues primarily comprised of incorrect word choice, typos (abou iso about), punctuation errors (double periods, missing quotation marks), missed words and extra inserted words / phrases. I am mentioning these for readers such as myself that visualize the story as it is read, because errors interrupt the flow.

This book could have been so much better! The plot line intrigued me so much; it has a huge potential to be a 5 star read, had there been none of the issues I found in the book.

With a promising story line, Home Forever was about the heroine finding her way back in to the life of her people after a tradegy that almost ruined her life.

What put me off of this book:

1. Written in third person POV, it's a bit complicated (at least for me) because I haven't read that many authors who writes better using this POV. That being said, I wouldn't have any issues if the author did not continuously messed up/mixed up the names. It ruins the continuity and flow of the story if you have to read back as who's speaking at the moment.

2. Aside from the mixing up of names, this book needs another round of some serious formatting and editing.

Typos, mixed-names and formatting issues that happens every page from the first up to the last takes away reader's enjoyment in reading. However, since I want to know how the story will go, I power through just to see how it will end.

This is an OK story for me. I found the heroine and the female side characters strong-willed and tough and the hero along with the male side characters protective and very endearing.

There's not too much or too big of a conflict in the story, which for some reason, worked well for me. The author only delivered what was needed in the story and she didn't overdone things just for the sake of adding a filler in the story.

With all that being said, I still quite enjoy this book. Although if you are looking and expecting for a real MC book (club life and all that), this book does not have that. There were mentions of the brothers and their club and a little appearances here and there but nothing that involves real club life.

Would I still recommend this book? Yes, of course. I stated the issues that bothered me but hey, I survived and even enjoyed the ride so it's possible that if you can overlook those said issues, you may enjoy this book, too.

Slow, then good, then. boring.

Firstly, if you’re expecting an Mc book, this isn’t one. They never go to a compound, he calls her his old lady, but I’ve no clue who the other members are, and they never have church. Apart from them riding bikes, there is nothing Mc about them.

Carlie and Sam were madly in love as teenagers, when one day Carlie disappears. Sam and his twin Zeke hire a private detective but Carlie and her uncle have disappeared with no clues to where they have gone. Eleven years later Carlie and her uncle come back, with a horrifying story about why they left.

I just really wish that there was a bit more excitement in this book. All the danger happened before she went back to Sam. So the whole book is really just about them getting back together. And it’s dull. I really loved the first part of it, but then it just went downhill from there. And if she called Sam, her Sam Sam one more time, I was going to throw my kindle. Such an immature name!!! And she does it constantly. The other unbelievable thing for me was Sam and Carlie, being madly in love with each other after eleven years!!

Sex scenes are boring, and their ‘romance’ is as well. Such a shame as I really thought it was going to be brilliant.

Sam & Carlie: triggers- domestic abuse, organized crimes, book cooking, stalking, gun violence, PTSD, animal abuse, kidnapping, assault. Note - series may be listed as MC romance however this book has been little to do with the MC and no real mention of ranks. the story I found to be okay but I found it to be a bit repetitive with spelling and grammatical errors that grated on my nerves. I didn't mind the first part of the story and especially loved the part with Carlie and her BFF'S however they only make an appearance in the book twice. the conflict of the story is what annoyed me because I expect the antagonists to be directly correlated to the main characters but instead the antagonist here correlates to a supporting character. I also found the conflict to be a little anticlimactic. 🤷🏾‍♀️ the story is okay, it has funny moments, and it's steamy it just didn't gel well for me.

Carlie and Sam fell in love in high School with the intention to be together forever until Carlie disappears without a trace leaving Sam heartbroken and so angry at the world. Fast forward a few years and Carlie is back. The intrigue and mystery surrounding her disappearance sets the tone for this book. The love between the two has never died and rebuilding their lives through all the heartache takes place. It is a fantastic start to what promises to be an awesome series. There is 2 MC clubs involved but its not really a MC based book. I look forward to reading and watching the characters in this book develop. Yes, there are a few editing issues but the the underlying base of the book is good.

Cee Bowerman is a new to me author, but I have no idea why I had never read her books before.

This book was such a great read. It was a fast paced, tragic, suspenseful and great story that had my interest from the first page. The set up of the story drew me into it and held my interest and intrigued me through the entire book. I love the characters. The Duke family is loved by so many in the town. The Texas Knights MC is an MC that helps their community and are upstanding citizens, but don't hurt one of their own or you will feel the wrath of the Knights as well as their allies.

I loved the story and the characters and will be purchasing the rest of the series to read. I cannot wait to read Lisa and Zeke's story.

This book was slow in the beginning but the reconnection was sweet!! There was a good bit of angst and drama along with the love which was good. I gave this a 4 star though because I felt like I was reading 2 stories at once from 2 sets of characters only to have an even longer more drawn out version of the same problems in the second book staring Lisa. This book was about carlie but the bad guy that was after Lisa was the bad guy in this book and ended with him being locked away forever. I haven’t read the second book but I assume it just goes through the events that Lisa went through and the struggles to love Zeke so idk if I’ll read it but I really did enjoy this book.
