All Jake wanted was a cup of coffee when he had what he first thought was a chance encounter with a strange man. Not only did he learn that the meeting wasn’t by chance at all, and the man quite possibly not human, but he soon found himself in a desperate battle to save his world.
J.W. Kent is a Bluegrass musician and avid homebrewer. He also enjoys fishing, black powder firearms, playing his bagpipes and doting on his granddaughter. He makes his home in the Shenandoah Valley with his wife Robin, and can not imagine a life without dogs in it.
I'm a huge fan of JW Kent's 'Fergus' series, so when I saw that he released a new short story I pounced on it. This is such a fun read. Quick one-liners that'll make you chuckle, a protagonist you can't help but want to have a pint or sip some scotch with, hints of explanations behind ancient mythology, even a Star Wars reference, this story has it all!
If you're new to JW Kent's work, this is a short and inexpensive way to discover one of my favorite authors. I hope you pick up this story and enjoy it as much as I have. If you do enjoy it then move on to his other work, I have yet to be let down by a JW Kent story.
I liked how this involved some ordinary, imperfect guy being tossed into the most unbelievable of circumstances and how his core ethics and personality shone through to accomplish his task. And then life simply returns to normal....
This is the way every coffee break goes (in my imagination, at least). Well written and clever, this was a fun read, great for when you have a spare half hour somewhere.
