Getting Lucky #2

That Forever Girl

Rate this book

USA Today bestselling author Meghan Quinn’s second book in the Getting Lucky series brings heart, humor, and heat back to Port Snow.

There are two little words every small-town man dreads:

She’s back.

Harper Sanders, the girl who was supposed to be my forever, has returned to Port Snow, Maine, for good—and she’s bringing back memories of our shared past.

We once had a bright future together, but when tragedy struck, I threw it all away and pushed her out of my life. People in our small town think I’m cursed, but I know better. I did it all to myself.

And now she’s creating a life of her own in the place where we first fell in love. I can’t fight my feelings for her—or the strong attraction that keeps pulling us together. But after all this time, can she forgive the past and fall in love with me all over again?

Everyone hopes to find that forever girl…I just hope I haven’t lost mine for good.

When I was in high school I occasionally read books but was consumed by other teenage things so I didn't take the time to appreciate a good book on a cloudy day, wrapped up in a blanket on the couch. It wasn't until I received a Kindle for Christmas one year that my world completely flipped upside down. When looking for books I came across the Contemporary Romance genre and was sold and I haven't turned back since.

You can either find my head buried in my Kindle, listening to inspiring heart ripping music or typing away on the computer twisting and turning the lives of my characters while driving my readers crazy with anticipation.

I currently reside in beautiful Colorado Springs where the sun is always shining and there is a trail waiting to be hiked on every corner. I share a lovely and warm home with the love of my life and my five, four-legged children.

Ok, first things first, have you read Meghan Quinn? If your answer is no, you are so missing out. She has got to be one of my most favorite authors out there today. Her writing, flawless. Her characters, simply unforgettable. You definitely need to pick up her books and get to reading if you haven't, totally worth it for you romance lovers.

Now, regards to That Forever Girl, I loved the first book in this series, couldn't wait to get to this one. This book, oh gosh I was on the edge of my seat, keeping a Kleenex next to my eyes for most of this book, especially the first half. It was like I wanted to read fast to find out what happens, yet, I wanted to stop and skip to the end. (please do not do this, you would completely miss out).

Rogan & Harper capture my heart and I road along this journey with these characters, effortlessly. This author tells this story in alternating POV and switches from Past to Present, every other chapter. It simply flows so dang smoothly, its flawless. Im excited to see what is next up for the Knightly brothers

*****FIVE STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

Lips pressed together, eyes welling up with tears, I hold back the flood of emotions that wants to spill over. This right here, this is the man I knew and loved so many years ago. He’s the one who captured my heart, the one who held it close and protected it with everything he had.

Meghan Quinn fans are sure to fall in love with this second installment of the ”Getting Lucky” series. I am not at all surprised at just how fantastic ”THAT FOREVER GIRL” ended up being, and I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for the remaining Knightly brothers. If ”friends-to-lovers”, “enemies-to-lovers” and “second-chance-romance” are some of your favorite tropes as they are mine, then you are in for a real treat with Rogan and Harper’s story!

Rogue is the second oldest and hottest Knightly brother, but he’s also known as the broody and closed-off Knightly. He once had everything in the palm of his hands and on one fateful night, he lost it all. Seven years later, the woman who had his heart since he was a young boy has come back to Port Snow and no matter how hard he tries to fight his feelings, fate and true love have other plans in store for Rogue and Harper. Rogan tore Harper’s heart to shreds and caused her to lose confidence in herself. Will she be able to let go of the pain from the past to move on to the possibility of an even greater love with the only man who’s ever truly owned her heart?

I can’t even begin to express just how much I loved Rogan and Harper’s journey. Their story is told through alternating POV’s, switching from past to present every other chapter, but it’s written so fluidly that I found the plot development to be flawless. This is a book you will find too good to put down! I am so ready to get my hands on the next installment!! This is going down as yet another one of my top favorite series by this incredibly talented author!

Here are my overall ratings:

Hero: 5
Heroine: 5
Plot: 5
Angst: 4.5
Steam: 4.5
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 5

I can see myself going down a Meghan Quinn rabbit hole.

I loved this one. Because my heart was just so happy reading it. And second chance romances are my absolute weakness!
Such a cute story. The right amount of cheese and wholesomeness.

Small-town stories are so heart-warming and Meghan Quinn really pulled it off for me. I just adore the town she created, the characters and the family and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

That Forever Girl was about two people who may have loved each other too much. So much that they couldn't help but hurt each other. So much that it drew out the most immature impulses they ever had. Was it fun to watch? You bet your ass it was!

Rogan and Harper were best friends since sixth grade. In their teens, they both couldn't understand what had changed but they wanted each other. They just didn't share it. There were awkward moments, insecurities and doubts, until one day and one kiss changed everything. They were in love and it was forever... until it wasn't. When tragedy befalls this couple, love isn't enough to erase bitterness and resentment and after ugly things are said, these two are separated by time and distance. Seven years later, they're both home and being in the same small town is difficult to say the least. Not only do they have to concentrate in order to avoid the other, his family and the entire town are meddling, trying to get these lovebirds back together. Their forever kind of love was obvious to everyone... just not to them.

"Honestly, I feel like our love story could easily be a Lovemark movie."
"Really?" Sally asks. "Do tell."
"It checks all the boxes. High school sweethearts, small-town romance with quirky side characters, a bit of a mystery, with a whole lot of heartache. Oh, and don't forget a classic second-chance romance. Maybe a little enemies to lovers snuck in there."

^^^^^^ That sums it up pretty nicely. The Knightly brothers are HILARIOUS!! They were the absolute highlight of this story. I couldn't get enough of their banter and group message texts. I'm telling you, Meghan Quinn really knows when and how to bring the humor. Rogan was extremely cold for so long, but with flashes to the past, the author made me not only understand where his iciness came from, but to sympathize with this character. Once I was able to see the big picture... SWOONS!! Loved me some Rogan. I'm a little surprised so little time was spent on him and Harper as a couple. There was a lot of history and a lot of present fighting and I especially enjoyed the little twist that explained A LOT, but I was hoping for more of them together as a unit. Ah well, I still loved this.

This didn't work for me.
The banter between the brothers is good even funny at times.
The curse situation, maybe it's just me but I didn't get it, they are letting it rule their lives. It was a bit ridiculous.
Dual POV.
Flashback alternative chapters.
No intimate scenes with anyone other than the Hero and heroine.
No cheating.
No other woman/man drama except an experience related from the past.
The Hero broke up with the heroine, there is a lot involved but basically although they were engaged he completely cuts her off.
The situation is extreme but he is very cruel.
When they meet back up he is continually cruel to her, rude in front of others until around 50% of the book.
He makes it clear he doesn't want her back in town, publicly, and even when she begs him to stop, crying he still carries on.
He says it's because he loves her but they can't be together but I found him very dislikeable.
The heroine says“Don’t make this harder than it already is. I know this must be fun for you, acting like we’re great friends, but this hurts for me. So let’s just be cordial and get through these next few weeks, okay?”
When I read the blurb I thought the book would be about getting her back but it's pushing away then trying to get her back after around 55% mark, it wasn't soon enough for me.
I found some of the banter between the Hero and heroine childish later on.
There are references to the couple in book 1 and other characters are developed for future books.

HEA. If you trust him. I really didn't like it.

There is one passage in this book that is just perfect to describe that story so I will use it: “It checks all the boxes. High school sweethearts, small-town romance with quirky side characters, a bit of a mystery, with a whole lot of heartache. Oh, and don’t forget a classic second-chance romance. Maybe a little enemies to lovers snuck in there.”

Meghan Quinn knows how to write that’s a given. I nearly peed my pants while reading The Virgin Romance Novelist because I laughed way too hard for my bladder.

When I saw the blurb for this new book I did not hesitate to one click.

It had so much of my favorite tropes!

-Small town feel;

-Childhood sweetheart;

-Second chance romance;

-Sexy but damaged hero;

…..

Did it deliver? Let’s see …

The small town feel was excellent!

I loved this little coastal town with its quirky citizens. The feel that everyone knows everyone and that you have kind of a big family. A meddling family but family nonetheless. You even have an old lighthouse (I don’t know why I love lighthouses so much but they feel so romantic).

Meghan described that charming town with all its nooks, gorgeous mansions and quaint fisher houses in such a way that I could see it and breathe the salted sea breeze.

The childhood sweetheart trope was good.

We alternate between present time and flashback and all the young romance is displayed in the flashbacks.

If I truly loved reading about the young Rogan and Harper till they went to college, the college flashback just diverted my attention from the main plot and I honestly wanted to resume with the present time. But that’s me and my personal taste as I often struggle with flashbacks in stories. I usually just want to get back to the main plot.

The second chance romance.

Well I loved in the beginning how Rogan was a jerk to Harper when she got back home. Not that I like a@holes in stories but it kept things interesting. The anger, the resentment and beneath it all the passion still burning.

Yet at the same time I just wanted Rogan to get his act together and stop acting so silly!

I was conflicted and later on, without giving any spoilers away, found it a little bit too easy.

The banter and family dynamics

I think the best part of this book is the banter between the Knightly brothers and the family quirk like the fudge trials!
“Those Knightly boys can be real morons, can’t they?” That makes me chuckle and stills the churning in my stomach. “They really can be.” “And they make it seem like they’re the most intelligent men, but when it comes to love, they are deaf, blind, and stupid.”

I laughed so hard when I read some of their text banter.

The brothers have an incredible dynamic and I really liked that Brigs seems a big romantic. I would love having brothers like these!

Harper is also one who will give Rogan a run for his money if he is insufferable with her. She will hold het ground and I had to admire her for that!

So why not a four or five stars truly? I would say that this book is the perfect beach read but it would be weird as it is happening around Thanksgiving!

It is one of these “Hallmark” books: sweet, enjoyable that will let you have a good time yet something was missing for me to give it a very high rating.

I don’t know what. A kick maybe? Some added drama or angst? Less flashbacks?

Honestly I don’t know.

What I do know is that this book gets many excellent reviews and this could be the perfect read for you! I have adored other books by Meghan Quinn so I would say: make up your own opinion!

Have you read Meghan Quinn's books?

Thanks for reading!

i was super excited to read this because its a second chance romance and the blurb sounded promising, but unfortunately this book did not work for me.
i had no emotional connection and in fact, dislike the two main characters so i wasn't invested in their romance.

Rogan was really, really, really unlikeable for majority of the book. i couldn't get pass how horrible and cruel he treated Harper when he found out she moved back into town and frankly, i didn't think his behaviour was justified when we find out what and why things went down in the past.
Harper was such a whiner and a bit of doormat in my opinion. i really don't like how easily she forgave Rogan after everything he'd done.
by the end of the book, i was glad they were back together, if only to be done with the book.

the only thing i liked about this book was the banters amongst the brothers, which is quite funny and entertaining at times.
might try this series again with Brig's book. i liked him a lot🤭

This was pretty damn good.

I tend to not pick up second-chance stories often, thinking they won't blow my socks off, but the trope in this was done so well. Their past and present-day romance were told in alternating chapters, and the twist revealed of the cause of their breakup was great.

Meghan Quinn really knows how to write an immaculate small-town romance: with the quaint vibes of the surroundings, the busybody and gossiping townsfolk, and of course the meddling but loving Knightly family.

Genre: Enemies to Lovers. Second Chances.

Once again, Meghan delivers a juicy and exciting read! That Forever Girl is everything I needed in a romance. The angst from the turbulent relationship between Rogan and his former flame Harper, the slow burn between them, and some humor to tie it all together. Oh, and I don't want to forget that Meghan added one of my favorite things in the whole world into the mix- a CHRISTMAS MOVIE being filmed in Port Snow! It didn't get past me that LOVEMARK was incorporated (just like Hallmark). This made me absolutely GIDDY! I love Hallmark Christmas movies and this added to my excitement to not only the book, but to the upcoming movies this season! All in all, this book is a total winner based on all these points and more.

If you're looking for a book that exudes love then you can't go wrong with a Meghan Quinn book. She writes with so much heart that it makes readers feel deeply connected to the stories and characters! I highly recommend this one- it's another 5 star winner!

Wow! It is a very long read indeed. It almost takes my bed time finishing this book. I hesitate to pick this book because the first book is too dragging for my taste.

But That Forever Girl took me by surprise. Yes it is super dragging like a pace of a turtle. But instead of focusing on the town gossip, it focuses more on the second change between Rogan and Harper. The time frame is back and forth between past and present. And this time, miss Quinn done a wonderful job bringing all of the bits and pieces together. In a very dragging pace.

I still have problem with the slow pace. But overall i enjoy the banter between Rogan and Harper. It was funny, sassy, playfull and smile worthy.

4.5 stars for Harper and Rogan ❤!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This was the second book that I've read by Meghan Quinn and it was a really good one.

Unfortunately, I didn't read the first book from this series but that didn't bother my reading because this book is standalone.

But, of course, I would like to read the first book.

"That Forever Girl" is a love story about two young people, Harper and Rogan, which will make you cry and smile through the whole book.

I love that this book has flashbacks which help you to understand characters actions and how everything happened between them before the time they are right now.

If you love a heartbreaking love story, this book is absolutely for you ❤!

3.5 It was a lot better than the first book stars

You got to love kindle unlimited, I love that I can get audio books through kindle unlimited (not to be confused with audio escape). I wasn’t really a fan of the first book, The Second Chance. I find Meghan Quinn’s writing style a tad bit boring.

It’s basically a bunch of conversations, that’s what the book felt, but this one, had a little more storyline / plot.

I’m not sure how I feel about the past and present timeline. I think I found it confusing since I listened to it and at times the author doesn’t tell you if you are in the past or present. I think sometimes it’s mentioned but I don’t always catch it because I’m listening. That was really annoying.

I didn’t like that you had to listen to most of the book before you find out why they broke up. That’s not really a plot point I tend to like to listen to. It’s happened a lot before in many books and again it’s annoying.

The male narrator read really slowly and I had to speed up the pace at 1.25x, which to me read “normal”. But as the book got more dragged out, I finally picked up the pace at 1.5x just to finish the book.

The best part of the book was the last 2 hours only because I felt like the couple was going somewhere and THANK goodness the “curse” storyline was kind of washed out. It was really ridiculous. If you read the first book you will know what I am talking about.

I thought the hero was kind of jerk and when you realize what he did, man, I’m not sure if he had any redeeming quality. I felt like he should have begged more to get into her good side again. The only thing I felt like he had to offer her was the fact he was rich and he could support her, since she’s “finding” herself.

So far, it’s been a tepid series, but I’m holding out for hope it will get better with each book.

for the most part, I thought this was a five-star read..there was so much yearning and feelings all things you associate with second chance romance...
the build-up was great I couldn't wait to find out what happened and why did they split up..
also he switch after avoiding her to pursuing her really fast and suddenly.
If you like second chance romance I am sure you will enjoy reading this one.

4 FOREVER CROWNS

Meghan Quinn has created another small town second chance romance that will make you believe in soul mates.

Rogan and Harper, life long best friends turned lovers, have such a great story. By alternating between the past and present with flashbacks, Quinn provides readers with insight into their friendship. Readers get to see them move form just friends, to the awkward growing teen attraction, to the actual relationship stage. The way Rogan loves her is the way teenage girls want to be loved by their boyfriend, but Meghan Quinn also show the flaws and cracks with young love.
While second chance romances generally aren't my favorite trope, Quinn gave us more than young, immature mistakes as a reason for them to fall apart when they are young. They have real hurdles to overcome and real issues to deal with before they come back together. There was one issue in particular I do wish was explored more, but what is in the story is done well.

The banter and fun between Rogan and Harper is great. I loved the dialogue and the text messages, and with Quinn's signature humor, there are many moments that had me laughing out loud. Additionally, the physical intimacy was there as well, and this novel had more than the standard Quinn novel.

The one aspect I generally love about a small town romance is the ability not to only fall in love with the hero and heroine of the story but also the family and town, and I am so in love with the four brothers in this series. I am already excited to get into the next brother's book, and the conversations between the brothers are some of the funniest bits of the book.

Meghan Quinn is creating a favorite small town series of mine, which is hard as it isn't my favorite trope, but I cannot help but fall in love with these brothers as they overcome the love curse and find love.

ARC received in exchange for an honest review.

Damn, I waited too long for a proper review with details but I didn't forget how much I felt while reading this. The book totally consumed me, enthralled me, and I couldn't put it down until I found out what was going to happen. Tears were shed, there was back-talk to my kindle, and some laugh out loud moments as well. What can I say but I absolutely love how Meghan Quinn tells her stories... I'm a junkie for them!

An incredible emotional story and one of my favorites by Meghan Quinn. The heartache of both Harper and Rogan kept me on the edge of tears for the first part of the story. Then I was cheering for them! I loved how Quinn did the flashback chapters, slowly revealing the shocker of what actually drove them apart. I am so in love with this town and the people in it!!

Emotional abuse

It's not ok to abuse someone mentally. It is just as heinous as physical abuse. Rogan was an emotional abuser, in his teens and as a young man. What's worse, he kept doing it to Harper after she returned.
That does not set a reader into a mind frame where they are rooting for the couple to be together.

I really need to stop picking up recommendations from FB and going in blind.

This was not good. He’s a nasty piece of work for more than 50%, then he decides to be charming and we’re supposed to like him? I don’t think so.

She’s wasted 7 years and to add insult to injury, she’s a doormat.

I’ve got to stop, no more NA and no more blind reads.

This book was like the movie the notebook but wayyy spicier & with a hallmark Christmas movie feel too.

Rogan and Harper grew up best friends then they become high school sweethearts. They break up after a horrible accident. The book goes back and forth between the past and present day, which I loved.

Harper moved away, but comes back to town. At first they have tons of anger towards each other. Eventually they ended up back together. It actually takes until the end of the book for them to get back together. However, I would not consider it a slow burn, because we get so much of their past relationship that there’s love from the beginning of the book.

This book is definitely very spicy & I do think that it was overkill sometimes. These two just could not keep their hands off each other.

There’s also a mystery added in. And a movie production. Lots going on, but it all ties together very well. I just think this author is so good at writing dialogue too. Definitely recommend this one.

description

“I like to believe that some people hold the beat of another human’s heart in theirs, and they spend their entire lives searching for the owner.”

What a joy it was to be back with the Knightly clan and all the loveable quirky characters who reside in Port Snow, that quaint little New England town where meddlers, gossipers, and well-meaning folk make it a point to know each other’s business. And the sexy Knightly boys are most certainly the topic of conversation on many lips! There’s plenty to gossip about since Griffin, Rogan, Reid, and Brig were love cursed by an angry clairvoyant two years ago on a boozy boys trip in New Orleans.

We first met these men in That Second Chance which was Griffin and Ren’s story, and now, in That Forever Girl, we explore Rogan’s and Harper’s love story. A childhood friends to lovers, second chance romance which we felt in our hearts.

“I love you, and that’s never going to change.”

That Forever Girl is told in dual pov with past to present switches so we share the progressive relationship from childhood friends to lovers, leading to the bitter breakup that left Harper bereft and desperately unhappy, and Rogan an unhappy angry man. What happened? What went so wrong in such an idyllic and perfect love story? Well, the outcome really did take us by surprise.

‘What do you say to the love of your life, the girl you pushed away so many years ago?’

It’s been seven years since Harper and Rogan’s love shattered, seven years in which they’ve tried to put the past behind them, however, when Harper returns to Port Snow old wounds are re-opened and painful pasts addressed. Harper was Rogan’s world – he was going to marry this girl.

“She didn’t just lose you, Rogan; she lost all of us.”

As Harper and Rogan return to the past we learn of a love story within a story which was so sweet and mysterious, and the way in which Harper and Rogan’s love story was so influenced by the town is endearing. Meghan Quinn really captured the essence of the love they both shared. A friendship that started in the sixth grade, towards a love that refused to die.

“Kiss me like you mean it, Harper.”

We adore the small town experience Meghan Quinn brings to this story. She so vividly brings the town to life with her words – so much so, we want to pack our bags and holiday there and taste the fudge, enjoy a hot cup of coffee and a chin wag with the locals! They’re so offbeat and fun.

It’s not only the love story and the town, but the family dynamics of the Knightly clan also gave us such a laugh. The group text ‘Four Men and a Witch’ with the four brothers and their sister Jen is hilarious and the meddling was delightful. Such little details added to the ambiance of the story.

“Can you please stop meddling in my life?” Dad laughs. “It’s cute you asked that son, but no.”

If you love small-town romances that are rich in scenery, packed with sweetness, heat, and fun, and looking for an easy reading escape, look no further than the Getting Lucky series! We promise it will put a smile on your face! We can’t wait for The Secret Crush, the next book in the series releasing February 2020!

4 1/2 "2nd chance" Stars!

That Forever Girl was a great installment to the Getting Lucky series! I really liked the way Ms. Quinn went back and forth between the past and the present to let Rogan and Harper's story gradually unfold. It felt like a very natural way to share the information with the reader and had an easy flow. It also made it more heartbreaking at times to go from a chapter where they were young and happily in love to a chapter where they weren't even speaking. It really made the harshness of their current reality stand out.

Let me just say....Meghan Quinn, you are killin' me with Rogan! Seriously, I love how you wrote him....so clever. He's the absolute man you can't help but dislike for his treatment of the girl through a good portion of the story but when all the pieces start coming together, you understand him better and can embrace his surly character a little more. Then when his secrets surface and you know what he's really been up to....be still my heart! By the end of the book, I was sold....all in...Team Rogan.

Then there is our leading lady, Harper. She mysteriously appears back in Port Snow. Her reasons for moving back are unclear but it's evident that she is hiding something. It's also quite obvious that she's uncomfortable being around Rogan and that she has unrequited feelings where he's concerned. Rogan doesn't hide his displeasure that Harper is back in town either and initially tries to avoid interacting with her as much as possible. Unfortunately for both of them, everyone else in town has other plans and tries to throw them together as much as possible, especially Rogan's family.

I think it's safe to say that I love the Knightly family. One of my favorite parts in the book is the texting banter between the brothers - - it's absolutely hilarious and when you throw their sister in there for good measure, it's even better. I'm totally hooked on Port Snow and this series! I can't wait to see who gets their story next!

I’m going to have to call it quits with this one. I was so ready for Rogan’s story after it was hinted at during That Second Chance. I was so excited for a second chance romance with this town as an adorable background. However, I didn't get A N Y of that here. I was fed up with two things, the flashbacks and the main characters.

The flashbacks seriously made me feel like we were reading two stories in one. I would have been fine with just a short summary of why they broke up. Maybe this was supposed to provide more angst and make us think that they were meant to be. I don't know but it really didn't work for me.

As far as the characters go, I really tried okay! I tried to give these two characters the benefit of the doubt and like them. They were, however, some of the most annoying characters I had the chance to read about. I’m not talking about their characters during the flashback. Nope, I’m talking about them as freaking grown ass adults. They bickered and honestly went out of their way to make the other miserable.

"If we’re going to live here, I’m going to make sure he regrets ever making me love him."

I’m sorry what? There is no way that I can sit and read the rest of this. After all of this, he decides that he’s going to try and win her back. NOPE. I’ll seriously just wait for another Knightly brother to find love. This one is not for me.

well, that was a disappointment.

I am a huge fan of Meghan Quinn's books but this one just wasn't my cup of tea.
Hopefully the next one is better.

„If there’s one thing I know for sure about my life, it’s that you’ll be in it.”

Port Snow and Knightly brothers completely stole my heart. In That Forever Girl Meghan Quinn took me on an emotional journey paved with heartbreak, regrets, disappointment and longing. But she also showed me the magic of feelings and gave me hope, because Harper and Rogan’s story is the proof that great love deserves a second chance. And all that takes place in one of the most wonderful locations ever described- picturesque town on the Maine coast. I’m totally enchanted with this place and Rogan and Harper’s love story!

I like how Meghan Quinn turned friends-to-lovers story into second chance romance. The past interweaves with the present and thanks to that we can fully experience this incredible tale- from just a friendship, the first kiss, plans for the future, and an awful tragedy that drifted Harper and Rogan apart to the big comeback and efforts to get another chance. There were moments that melted my heart, but also those that made me sad. I loved Rogan, despite that he behaved like a jerk for the good part of this story. When all the pieces of puzzle came together, I just swooned! I loved Harper for finding content in common things- she wasn’t career driven nor money hungry. To feel fulfilled, she just needed a man she loved by her side and kids. Oh, and the power to forgive, because it’s obvious that she already found the man of her dreams ;)

That Forever Girl is a heartwarming and charming small town story. It captivates, makes you swoon and makes you laugh. The Knightly clan is a family you would love to be a part of and Port Snow residents will make you want to move there. I’m delighted with this book and Meghan’s writing skills, because when I was reading this story, I felt like a bystander of events.
Dear Mrs. Quinn- give me another Knighly brother, please! I want to stay in Port Snow forever!

This was good but not great for me purely because of personal preferences. In That Forever Girl, Harper moves back to Port Snow, Maine seven years later giving these two a second chance at love.

What I didn't like about it was that a big portion of the book is Rogan making Harper's return uncomfortable for her and ending up having these two behaving a bit immaturely towards each other.

I would have love to have seen Rogan realizing his shot at fixing what happened to them years before instead of trying to push Harper away. He is obviously still in love with her and I just prefer a man to go after what he wants.

What I did love about this is what really drew me in with the first book. I love the small town setting of Port Snow, Maine where everyone butts into everybody else's business. I also love all the banter and interactions with the Rogan and his brothers and sister. Their text messages were hilarious.

Despite this one just being ok for me, I am looking forward to the next brother's story.

Gah this book! I had so many conflicting emotions as I read. I loved the writing itself, and I was completely wrapped up in the story line. I loved the Knightly family in general. But honestly, half of the book I spent alternating between liking Rogan and wanting to punch him in the face. But Harper? I loved Harper. The whole time I loved her and wanted nothing but happiness which is why so often I wanted to punch Rogan. Because he was such a jerk, and then he wasn't... And I was falling in love with him right along with Harper. The lengths he was willing to go to for her even when she didn't know was the stuff romance novels are meant for.

There was just so much heart and hurt and healing in this book. But that HEA was well earned by the end.

I am so torn over this book! There are parts I really loved and some things that just didn’t work. To say I was invested in the story and in Harper and Rogan would be an understatement. I fell for Rogan and Harper the more I read and I was rooting for their reconciliation. It was bittersweet, hopeful and romantic. I loved their story, hands down. It was the secondary plotline that lowered my rating.

The way the book is written, we get glimpses of the past in snippets while we see Rogan and Harper reconnect after their very painful college break up in the present. We also get a secondary story of a mystery couple in the past that Rogan and Harper follow throughout their own story.

Harper is back in town after 7 years and although it’s not ideal to have to share the small town with her ex-fiancé, she’s ready to be an adult about it and finally show everyone that she has moved on and being so close to Rogan won’t affect her at all. And things would be so much easier if Rogan followed her example of avoiding. Instead Harper sees Rogan everywhere and it still hurts to see him and remember . . . the dreams she once had and the harsh reality of her being alone now.

Rogan is still eaten up with guilt and regret over his actions and the part he played in pushing Harper away from him. Seeing her again just proves how wrong he was to let her go and with each sighting, Rogan is convinced more and more that this is his second chance to get his forever girl back.

Normally this style of writing isn’t my favorite. I’m super impatient and hate when the mysterious past of a character(s) is dragged out alongside the vaguely represented present. Mainly because I tend to like one time line more than the other. But the author does an awesome job of giving you just enough to keep you interested without getting lost in the past. The story moves in an easy pace that made it painless to follow along.

I loved Rogan and Harper childhood, their early friendship that later turns into their first love. These two where great characters and I fell in love with their friends to lover’s story. Following them from grade school all the way to college was the best. Even the big reveal of what actually happened to them way back then pulled out my heartstrings.

Rogan definitely could have handled Harper’s return with a bit more grace (I was expecting Harper to really make him grovel over his initial antagonism!) but it was hard to stay mad when you find out Rogan’s side of the story and his way of keeping a piece of Harper with him always. It was seriously a romantic gesture that melted me and definitely redeemed his earlier behavior.

This book brought out all the emotions in me and I was charmed, wooed, angry and laughing out loud at times. I haven’t read this author but I am definitely intrigued enough to hunt down her back list of work after reading this one.

There was a lot to love about this book but the secondary love story wasn’t my jam. It might not be a deal break for most but there was something so wrong about falling in love with the “love” story of Iggy and Mrs. Davenport.

“Iggy was in love with me but needed the funds from Emma’s father to help his own father’s business succeed. It was simple; he might have loved me, but love back than wasn’t enough. Instead, he saved his father, bought the manor we always dreamed of having, and lived there with Emma, miserable and alone. The only joy he got came from the letters I sent him. We spoke of him divorcing her and living in the manor together, but he never made it far enough.”

I didn’t appreciate Mrs. Davenport calling Emma a wretch or the fact that at the very least, these two emotionally cheated for years. Emma, whose only fault was that her father had money didn't deserve their disrespect of her marriage. The fact that Mrs. Davenport was okay with Iggy marrying for money and was okay carrying on with him for years is not romantic. This tarnished the story a bit for me. I just kept feeling sad for poor Emma, who married a gold digging selfish bastard. Aside from that, this was a really good second chance romance. Harper and Rogan were definitely memorable characters.

I was really excited about this book and while there were parts of it that wowed me, there were parts that left me feeling unsettled. I’ve enjoyed a lot of Meghan Quinn’s work in the past and loved the first book in this series so requesting, reading, and reviewing That Forever Girl was a no brainer. While I was completely happy with the outcome in this book, getting there for me was a bit of a battle. I adore second chance romances, but I am not a fan of flashbacks (and there were many in this book) nor am I a fan of a couple who spends a great deal of a book being at odds which again happened in this book. I will say that the premise of this story was well thought out, the “mystery” unique and interesting, but the romance left a bit to be desired which was disappointing.

Best friends since childhood and together since high school Rogan and Harper were destined to be together forever until a tragedy struck in their sophomore year of college ending everything. Rogan returned home to Port Snow and Harper bounced around the east coast after dropping out of college finding work where she landed, but now she’s back and things are about to get very interesting.

I liked Harper and it was obvious she returned to Port Snow because her life wasn’t turning out like she planned. She needed to be with her father, she needed her friends, and the safety net that Port Snow offered her. Rogan on the other hand was a pretty miserable guy, in the first book it was obvious something had happened to him in his past that was haunting him and we do find out what happened through the flashbacks, it wasn’t an excuse for how badly he treated Harper when she returns or in the past.

Despite it being in flashbacks I enjoyed the little mystery that Rogan and Harper tried to solve as teens even though I figured out who the “forever girl” was pretty quickly, it was a fun subplot. I loved that in reality they both still had strong feelings for one another despite the past hurt, but hated that they couldn’t communicate better instead of throwing barbs at one another instead.

There was so much history between Rogan and Harper so much of it precious and good, so it was disturbing that they sniped at each other throughout so much of this book. I wanted more time with them discovering each other as adults which sadly didn’t happen.

I had really mixed feelings about That Forever Girl, while parts of it were exciting and fun, other parts were spiteful and mean. While I loved being back in Port Snow, loved seeing the Knightly family again, and the excitement of the town being featured in a movie, I felt like the romance was lacking for a majority of the book which was disappointing.
