I’m the good Gilroy. Not the serious one—the control freak who doesn’t know how to smile and had his entire life planned before he was old enough to drink and certainly not the one who runs around sticking his d**k into anything with a pulse. I’m Patrick Gilroy. Thoughtful. Considerate. Dependable. Mr. Nice Guy. That’s how Cari used to see me. But that was before. Before she moved in and made my life a living hell. Made me want things I’d convinced myself I could never have. Things that made me question who I really am. And how far I’m willing to go to get them. Because I never wanted to be just her friend. I’ve always wanted more. A lot more. Now that she’s pushed me over the edge, she’s going to find out just how much. Now that I’ve had her, I’m not going to stop until I take it all. Now I’m going to finish what Cari started. No more Mr. Nice Guy.
**Warning** This 90k words romance novel is intended for mature (18+) audiences only! You’ve been warned! **This full-length novel is the SECOND in a series and resolved the cliffhanger in book one, PUSHING PATRICK. There is no cheating and ends in HEA.**
USA Today best-selling author Megyn Ward lives on coffee, chocolate and more than the occasional glass of red wine. When she's not spending time with the hot, dirty-talking Alphas and the strong, capable women who love them who live in her head, she's busy chasing chickens (and kids), hanging laundry and burning dinner. Either way, she is almost always in the company of her eight dogs, her truest and most faithful companions, and her almost as faithful husband, Joe. Megyn is also the author of the award-winning Sabrina Vaughn thriller series, written under the name Maegan Beaumont.
I had to find out the ending and skipped the last 30% to discover this. I mean, for God's sake. They both know they love each other so why the hell is the a whole 2nd book of angst just to get to that conclusion?? Nope! I just can't compute how it went on for two whole books, it was highly frustrating, I will not be reading the rest. Furthermore, there's angst for those soon to be characters in these to books, let alone when they get a story of their own!
I read this book after reading the first one, Pushing Patrick. Let me tell you, I haven’t disliked a book so much in forever. It is all hate sex. Literally the entire two books are just angry encounter after humiliating encounter. Just because you say Patrick and Cari love each other doesn’t make it so. Each encounter is more painful than the one before. After each sex scene Patrick hates himself for the way he treats Cari. Cari is confused and convinced she’s trash because of how men treat her. This second book was supposed to make all of that ok, but there was honestly no redeem either character after how they treated each other in the first book. The characters show no real growth or REAL affection for each other. They even admit they were never really friends, just a friendzoned dude and the chick he wanted to bang. It was that crass. If you’re looking for sweet friends-to-lovers you can skip this one.
The first book in the series was hot and I did not think the second book would come close to that scorching hotness but boy was I wrong. Patrick and Cari went through one hell of a roller coaster ride to get their HEA. Now the long wait for the 3rd book...
So glad there was a happy ending. These two are perfect together. This is the second one about these two and i loved it. I love all the characters and hope each and every couple get their own books. I need so much more from this family. Amazing characters great story line .
They finally got over their stuff and got together!! Loved that it wasn’t immediate and that you saw the growth from both characters. Now to get the rest of them straightened out....
Sigh. I wanted to like this more because I do like the writing for the most part. But I cannot with these characters. This review is for both books, even though I firmly believe these characters absolutely did not need a freaking second book.
1. The character of Cari is infuriating. I get she has issues and honestly, I think this is a fault of the author. We hardly get any back story on her. We are told certain things but I had no idea she had a sister (if it was mentioned before the second book, it was a passing comment that I did not retain) until the middle of the second book. No mention of her family life growing up at all until she is randomly deciding to go home (ugh). I want to know why Cari is so insecure in herself and constantly going after the rich asshole type. WHY. She seemingly had a good childhood, good family life. What made her think that she only deserved a certain type? This had to have been instilled in her before she met Patrick and his asshole roommate she dated because she went back to said asshole after meeting Patrick. Sooo....why/how/when etc. Because of this, I just couldn't understand her character so her actions were POINTLESS. Why couldn't she tell Patrick she loved him?? Why did she randomly decide to play games with him to get him to break (so dumb)? Why, when he finally told her he loved her, did she decide to still go back home? While home, what actions did she do to work on herself that she was able to go back and be confident she deserved more? Honestly, I think that plot point of her going home was only brought on because the author needed to introduce her sister because she needed Ryan and her to meet later on (don't know for a fact, haven't gotten there but I'd bet my left hand that's what is going to happen).
2. Patrick. I am not a fan of his total personality transplant into Christian Grey that happened after Cari pushed him to far. I understand that he would be angry. But the random rough sex? Why.
3. The 11 month time jump wasn't that long of time for these two characters to be seemingly 'totally different people' that the author is pushing here. I get why she did it but honestly it only created more conflict that really did not need to freaking happen. Also, randomly shoehorning characters into the last bit of this book was weird. Ryan? Henley? Cari's sister? All characters that pop up out of the blue. I feel like maybe these books are out of order-I just started Connor's two books and at the very least, we should have gotten his story before Patrick's because at least we get back stories on those characters.
I did like this author's writing style, but the plot and characters needed work. As a result, I couldn't connect to the characters (and they did not need two books).
I have to say this has been one excellent read, this two book series was worth every page and 26 hr binge, I did have a nap... Patrick and Cari wanted the same thing from each other they just didn’t know how to make it happen but with a lot of misunderstanding and a lot of self doubt they eventually came to terms with them selves which lead them to the conclusion of love for each other and for them selves! The rest of the clan keeps you interested and wanting to know their stories too. This is well written and the storyline keeps you wanting to take out stock in coffee just so you can stay awake to know what happens next!! This is a definite recommend
I hated this book. I gave the first book a generous three stars even though i had some major issues with it. I thought this book would be better, would really resolve things. Nope. Cari is going to act like a raging b*tch and a crazy person while Patrick is going to be hurt and second guessing himself constantly. This duo could have been resolved in one book if the authors would have just let the characters have one adult conversation. It was so frustrating. I literally had to skim the last 50% of the book so i could finish or else i would have torn my hair out. A hard pass on this book, even if you've read the first one. This book isn't worth the time. Maybe just skip to the last 4 pages if you want to see how it ends.
The Gilroy Clan has easily slid it's way into my top 3 favorite series of all time! I loved the story between Patrick and Cari, I'm always a sucker for a friends to lovers story and this book was perfect for that! I immediately started this book after finishing book 1 because I needed to know how their story played out. I literally couldn't put this book down! Also, the character development throughout the first 2 books in this series was amazing, I think Megyn Ward did such a great job! I'm completely invested in the Gilroy Family and can't wait to binge the rest of the Gilroy Clan Series!
I can't stand Cari her insecurities annoyed me threw this book, the way she pushing Patrick away, the way she treated him was over the top and made me dislike her even more..... Patrick alway apologizing, when he didn't do anything wrong, she said that he treated her bad when all I saw was her treating him badly.... He just kept groveling to her when it should of been the other way IMO..... I mean it did get a little better and more enjoulyable but there were times when I was annoyed and had to take a break from reading because it just frustrated me at times..
This book locked me from the first page picking up exactly where it left off in the 1st one - which is right where it started to get interesting lol.
That said, the beginning pulled me but honestly what really kept me entertained throughout the book wasn’t even Patrick and Cari (the main characters) - it was Conner (side character). Connor suddenly became more interesting in the last 20% of book 1 so happy to see more of him.
I wouldn’t say this series has blown me out of the water, but it’s good enough to keep me interested and the only thing that got this book a 4th star instead of the 3 to match the first book is, as mentioned above, Conner’s character lol.
Thank god that's over. Why, why why couldn't Patrick and Cari have been one book. I swear I'm a masochist to have gone through this book just to get to Conner's story because I feel 100% more invested and him and Tess and Declan than I even did in Patrick and Cari. I feel I gave this a generous 3 stars. I mean when I'm so upset at the couple that I'm skipping over their sex scenes something is wrong. I really hope Conner and Declan's stories aren't this ridiculous. But as they cover 2 books as well. They might be. And the ending god. Of course it's a HEA ending but it was so fast. I wanted more of the make up. We didn't get it.
I didn't write a review for the first book but here's my take on it. Cari thinks she's only good for her body and a great nice guy like Patrick can't possibly want her and she doesn't deserve him. Ok, sure I'll buy it, since she thinks growing up poor means you don't deserve anything. So she goes out with rich assholes. Then Patrick becomes a rich asshole to her and she still doesn't deserve him. and leaves. Now they have both changed Cari finally for the better I did for the most part like her in this book. While Patrick I liked less. He's still a good guy and the confidence he's got in his life is great. But to me he's still a huge asshole to her and that I didn't like. Don't get me wrong I like these kinds of books for the sexy times. But like I said earlier I was even skipping them so clearly there is something wrong. These two seem to be unable to be sweet to each other and at some point I was looking for that. I wanted some romance thrown in with all the dominance that Patrick gives. Because it should be all one or the other. I wanted to see them blend and I didn't feel like we got that at all.
I also want to mention how much I love Tess. Also she has a 67 Chevelle, that's hot! Personally I like the 1970 Chevelle. I love her relationship with Conner and can't wait to get her and Declan back together I really want to know what happened between them and get them back together. They clearly still want each other.
Let's talk about Conner for a moment because he is the reason I read this book in the first place. He is hot! And I don't just mean in looks. I love love love smart men. And Conner is a genius! I can't help it, guys that can take charge and get things done that others can't, I swoon. and swoon hard. I knew he's a totally man whore but all is forgotten when he's putting that beautiful brain to use. He's like Tony Stark. I know I'm nerding out here. So I'm onto his book and I hope it's good. After reading about Patrick and Cari I'm not so sure I'm going to like it. I also don't love the idea of Conner being tamed. So we'll see.
I’m not usually one for super angsty romance, so when a super angsty story pulls me in, keeps me engaged, and refuses to let go, I know it’s going to become a fast favorite. Megyn Ward’s Pushing Patrick is exactly that book!
Patrick and Cari kick off the Gilroy Clan series in spectacular fashion. The spice level is off the charts, the passion of the characters and their relationship hits hard and keeps on hitting, and the circumstances and situations they live through are intense and emotional. Ward seamlessly weaves in elements of humor, desire, deep friendships, trepidation, and solace, introducing characters who build a strong foundation for not only Cari and Patrick’s relationship, but the relationships within and surrounding the Gilroy family.
Pushing Patrick is part one of the duet with Claiming Cari, and Pushing Patrick does end on a jaw-dropping cliffhanger. It is so absolutely worth reading and continuing with the series. Their eventual HEA is stunning and worth all the angst the author and characters put the reader through. Have tissues handy throughout. And yes, it is ok to yell at certain characters. They need it. They earned it. They deserve it. And they can handle it. They brought it on themselves, to be honest. And yes, to me that is a clear sign of a well-written story with characters you can sink your every emotion into.
The audiobooks for both Pushing Patrick and Claiming Cari are incredible. The narrators capture the characters perfectly, creating distinct voices and personalities for each character they read. Their cadence and pacing is top-notch as well. I oftentimes found myself sitting in my driveway after a long day, reluctant to turn off the story and return to my regular scheduled programming (aka life). When narration makes you feel like you are immersed in the story, that is audiobook perfection.
The other thing Ward does brilliantly is build her supporting characters to a level where I need their stories. It’s beyond wanting to know what their deal is—it’s a visceral need to have that level of closure that will only come from finishing every book in the series. And I fully intend to do just that.
too much angst not enough sweetness but still good book.
This book was good and if you are looking for a broken heart with a quick ending, literally saying I Love You in the last chapter, then this book is for you.
Too much angst and not enough communication, they interrupt each other constantly and then assume things only to run out on each other all the time.
Cari is annoying by not saying literally what she has been telling everyone since book 1. The only person she didn’t tell I Love You to was Patrick until the very last chapter. I get where she is coming from in book 1 and 2 when she thinks she is not good enough, I have felt like that my whole life, but Patrick was there for her every step of the way and she still pushed him away. If I had a Patrick IRL I wouldn’t push him away, because having someone believe in you is important and she just never saw him like that.
I’m going to have to read something sweet and loving after this to heal my heart because after reading this even the epilogue wasn’t enough to heal the wounds the author gave me.
Good book, well written, gave me plenty of heart pangs and down below tingles. However I think we needed less everyone else’s drama in the last couple of chapters and to focus on Cari and Patrick and give more than one chapter of an apology and no sweetness to heal everyone after literally 2 books worth of angst.
Honestly, I feel like this book was just a super extended epilogue. To me, it was unnecessary and I think the author could have made the first book a little longer and been done with it rather than dragging it out over two books. I still love Patrick but they’ve been separated for 11 months, haven’t talked, he’s waited for her all this time and when she finally comes back he’s wanting to end things with her after 1-2 days because she hasn’t told him she loves him yet. It’s been TWO days and y’all haven’t spoke in almost a year. He waited all that time and then gives them no time at all to adjust to being back around each other. She even told him she wanted to date him but that wasn’t enough. Idk, just felt drawn out and unnecessary. Sex scenes are still great though lol also feel like the ending was rushed. I’m so sad because I think the the author has a great writing style but I just personally didn’t care too much for the plot being so drawn out. She did get me interested in Her side characters though, and I liked the book enough to give those stories a shot.
We come back almost a year later hoping everyone has matured and is ready to move on with life. That doesn’t seem to be the case for some of the Gilroy clan. A lot has happened since Cari moved away and came back “home”, while she is still trying to wrap her head around all the changes Patrick wonders if there is still something between them. I really do like Patrick as a character he evolved he matured he grew as a person. Life changed him, being with Cari changed him. Cari on the other hand has not changed, she had all this time to grow as a person and evolve and she didn’t even pick up the phone while gone to call people! If I could smack characters it would be her, if it wasn’t for the family in this book I would’ve given up. I’m not even sure I want to read the rest of the book because she’s in them.
I liked the authors writing, I liked the family dynamic. I really enjoyed the banter between family members. I’m interested to see the Tess/Declan situation work out but I’m unsure when I looked ahead why everything must be two books??
Claiming Cari is the follow up to Pushing Patrick. This book follows on exactly from where the first book ends which is great when reading them straight after one another.
With Cari having left Patrick and all their friends she discovers upon her return that a lot has changed. This includes the love of her life Patrick. Will he want to see her again? How is he going to react to her turning? If she thought she could walk straight back into their lives and everything would be the same then she is sadly mistaken.
Can they work through their issues to finally admit their feelings to one another once and for all?
I think the space apart helped this couple to find themselves as individuals before then going into something together. There were some great moments in the book and although at times their communication was frustrating it was an enjoyable read and I wanted to find out what happened to them. I also liked the supporting characters and believe they all have books so a new family for me to be invested in 💕Patrick is also just so dreamy and I like that Cari finally learns to love herself.
Stars for entertainment. Even though it was so freaking frustrating waiting for Cari to pull her head out of her ass. Jeez. But I really do like the whole crew and all their drama has me interested. I will probably read the other books about the other characters because there’s too much intrigue planted in these two books about the other storylines and I want to know what the heck is going on. Plus I think Conner is my favorite. So I want to know what’s up with him and who the heck Henley is. Or maybe Tess is my favorite... she’s really cool. I dunno. I think I’ll read their stories. I hope they aren’t as frustrating as this one though... I have a feeling they will be lol at least fucking Declan will be since that guy seems about as dumb as Cari. Anyway these were very unexpected but I’m enjoying the series so far.
When I read book 1, Pushing Patrick, I gave the story 4 ⭐'s. However, after finishing Patrick and Cari's story, I have to say I am giving it a 5 🌟!
Patrick had to change and grow some balls, he needed to become less of a push over. The only one to do that would be Cari, but how... read it and find out.
As for Cari, I think she had the biggest character change in the whole book and it was for the best. However, it was annoying certain people, insluding herself blamed her for some of the issues going on. Accept responsibility.
Being a woman, i understood where Cari was coming from in the beginning and why she felt rhe way she did near the end of the book. Well written.
Great drama, great fun time scenes, great character development. I look forward to reading the other's stories.
Wow I loved this continuation of the story between Patrick and Cari. I loved how this book had a happy ending. The story line is very well written and it made the book very entertaining and extremely enjoyable from beginning to end. I was completely sucked in from the start. Megyn Ward has done a fantastic job with this book and I will reading more of her books in the future.
Really enjoyed the book and the conclusion of Patrick and Cari's story
Patrick from a kind gentle boy next door type, helping local people, running charity baseball league's for under privileged kids, to revealing a different side to him, angry, passionate, when pushed by female scheming.
Cari finally deals with her demons after being a victim targeted by an ex boyfriend. Almost beaking Patrick in the process.
Finally things start to go well for Cari and results in a happy conclusion I love the way the series of stories links all the characters, each getting their own book/s for their story. Two of my favourite characters are Tess and Connor the banter between them is legendary 💕
The idea behind the story ⭐⭐⭐ The writing ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The side characters and what they bring to the story ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Male Main Character ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Female Main Character ⭐
The female main character seriously ruined this whole thing for me. I was fighting to get through the story. She is so self-deprecating and her shitty attitude and terrible communication skills kind of ruin the whole story. And I get that the author couldn't change it because that's pretty much the entire story. Her shitty attitude is the entire reason she's in the situation she's in. But really it didn't make for a good story. She's a shitty relationship partner and a pretty crappy best friend to the male main character the first six months when they lived together.

Cari and Patrick have a complicated relationship to say the least their biggest problem is the complete lack of communication between them neither wanting to admit how they feel or what they want!!
Both Patrick and Cari grew as individuals a great deal in this book both needing that space to grow apart before they could make it together.
This book also touched on the troubles the other members of the Gilroy clan are dealing with. Can't wait to see what happens with playboy Conner.
The Gilroy clan is the 1st series from the Author Megyn Ward and definitely not the last totally recommend author and book wonderful writing.
Welcome to the Gilroy Clan and the family they love and fight with and for. Patrick and Cari are still here and butting heads on there feelings for each other. You have Conner and Declan brothers and fight against each other at the moment. Tess and Henley are the women who have there heart strings just no one will give in. I'm sucked into this series and have to know if they get there HEA. It is a must read and a must read series and she keeps you hanging Sighs.. Grab your copy of Pushing Patrick and keep going. You will love these guys and the girls!
I loved the conclusion of Cari and Patrick’s story. The road to their HEA was filled with ups and downs but I enjoyed seeing them mature and find themselves along the way. It was great seeing Cari stick up for herself and Patrick get more comfortable with his Alpha side. I liked that a lot of things were tied up but there were things that were left open for the future of the rest of the family. I fell even more in love with the Gilroy Clan and can not wait to see more of them! I will be reading Conner’s story as soon as it’s available.

Have read the first two books in a day and a half. I’ve smiled, laughed, got frustrated, mad, HOT and totally pulled into not just Patrick and Cari’s story but into the whole extended Gilroy family and am gagging for more. (The takeout bill has been substantial as have neglected my family and given all my attention to the Gilroy Clan. Don’t regret it for a second though. It has been the perfect escapism from the shielding claustrophobia. Thank you!) Moving on to Connor’s story now... thank god for Justeat!
