After being scarred in the explosion that killed my brother, Gabriel Winters asked for my hand in marriage to save my family from financial ruin. In his mind, it was a marriage of convenience. He never saw me as anyone but his best friend's little sister. In my mind, nothing was convenient. I'd always seen him as a man.
Gabriel is scarred, but not broken. He's strong, powerful, and kind. I want to be the one to open his heart to love again. On the night he finally summons me to his bedroom, I go ready and eager to give him my body and my soul. Instead, he hands me divorce papers.
I would do anything for this man, but I refuse to give in. If he wants me to sign, he is going to have to give into my demands first.
I want to know what it finally feels like to be touched by a man...
Simone Rivers writes Interracial BWWM Romance with smart & strong heroines and supportive alpha heroes. Funny thing: a lot of these heroes also just happen to be billionaires with rock-hard abs. She loves hanging with her writing buds (a cat who likes to sit on her computer, and a dog who always wants to go on walks), and spending time with her family.
The characters needed more development the story basis was good but was not defined and detailed as it should have been. They floundered around each other not saying what they meant which was so annoying. Then the story jumps four years, with no real explanation as to what they were doing during those four years! As I said the story had the potential to be better, to explain Gabriel's PTSD, as well as the families grief, and to be a epic love story as the title of the beautiful fairy tale Beauty and the beast.
I can't stand book when the white guy is the saver of black and this was one of those books. Plus the two characters didn't have a connection. They would say they love each other but said to each other they wanted to f**k. They never said make love. Scarlett wanted her first time to be against a wall really? The whole Brad thing made no sense
Not a bad book. Fast paced love story. This also depicts (from my point of view) that the heroine was the Alpha of this book. She knew she wanted Gabe so she refused to allow him to wallow in self pity. All in all this was an interesting book and I look forward to other works from this author
3.00 Stars. (BWWM) KUB #74. Marriage of convenience. Gabriel Winters is a 26-year-old multi-billionaire and veteran who had been severely injured during combat. Gabriel has physical scars to his face and walks with a limp he also has emotional scars and survivor's guilt because his best friend was killed by sacrificing himself to save Gabriel and others in his unit. Because of his friend's selfless deed, Gabriel has vowed to take responsibility for his friend's family. The heroine, Scarlett Thompson, is Gabriel's deceased friend's 19-year-old sister. Scarlett is working at a fast-food restaurant; but she aspires to become a concert pianist. Shortly after returning home, Gabriel discovers that one of Scarlett's co-workers is not only verbally harassing her but has also attempted raping her. To rescue her and improve the family's financial standing, Gabriel conveniences Scarlett to marry him, no strings attached, attend a school of music and when they end the marriage, she will receive half his fortune. Cutting to the chase, Gabriel and Scarlett have always had crushes on each other, but didn't think his friend/her brother would approve. The story goes on on with these two failing to communicate -so there's that drama; toward the end, obsessed loco co-worker makes another attempt at forcing himself on Scarlett; but thanks to Gabriel he doesn't succeed. Gabriel and Scarlett work things out and get their "HEA". Short, sweet, romance.
The wealthy billionaire whined 80% of the book. Gosh, it was so irritating! I prodded through until the end. Neither character, other than the mother in the story garnered my compasse.
Editing errors detracted from the story. The meeting of hero heroine is un realistic. To get through the story, I have to not dwell on the fact that it didn’t seem plausible. The characters had potential, and they were sweet together.
So unrealistic The story line was good but never fully developed The characters had no depth; sadly disappointing I was forcing myself to finish the book.
Really enjoyed this story. Scarlett wss so sweet and very talented and she really loved and cared about her family she did all she could to help out financially even working a crummy job she hated with creepy Brad. Her mother's not well and on top of that they receive tragic news. She meets Gabe her oldest brother best friend who tries to help out financially but they're as stubborn as her oldest brother Richard who didn't want any handouts. So Gabe has to come up with a plan in order to help where it didn't seem like charity but family and he felt guilty and head over hill for her and her protective even though he felt it was wrong! He was such a sweet person scars and all.
This is not only the beginning of a wonderful and intriguing series. And it will have wanting to see more and more of the Winters men. This book not only have a strong storyline, the characters chemistries are so well written, that you can't help but to feel there love for each other. This is an awesome salute to all those that serve in the military, and their families who sacrifice for the rest of us. Any opinions expressed within this review are solely and uniquely made by me and I am happily leaving this review.
I think this is one of the worse books I've read in a long time but for some reason I had to see how it ended. The book had so much potential but it read like one of my middle school students wrote it. All tell, no show. It just got worse as it went along. The editor just gave up at the end. So many typos and repetition and just bad writing. All the angst was unnecessary. The dialogue was repetitious, simplistic and stiff. It's sad cause it had potential. I will not be reading anything else by this author. This was just not it.
I just want to thank Simone Rivers for writing such a heartfelt love story. I don't think I have ever cried during an entire reading of a book. It was just so emotional and I felt what the characters felt. I couldn't stop the unwanted tears, I didn't even know I was crying until my tablet got wet. I have to say this is my first Simone Rivers book and I hope the others are just as heartfelt. Keep writing, you never know who you might reach through your words!
This book was off the hook. I didn't know it was going to have great suspense. I started this book yesterday and I couldn't put the book down. I wanted to know what was going to happen next. I love Scarlett she is so warm & caring!! Never giving up fighting a good fight!! She is also so classy!!! On to the next book!! I hope there is going to be a book for Daniel!!! I fell in love with him from the start.
Cute though very predictable. The heroine was strong and sweet, and the hero, quite giving. Manufactured blindness to the love they felt for each other to the point that the story became unnecessarily drawn out, then the “surprise” thriller at the end. Lol. Just an OK read.
Gabriel Winters, a wounded warrior is determined to carry on the caring of the family of his fallen fellow brother in arms, Richard. He meets for the first time, Richard's family. He's smitten by Scarlet and makes a decision which he hopes will change everyone's life for the better. Scarlet is drawn to him but is cautious.
I like how Gabriel felt obligated to help Richard's family in his death since he didn't want to take a handout when he was alive. Gabriel and Scarlet was attracted to each other when they met and it was good that Gabriel's attraction let him to her job to ward off Scarlet's attack. I'm glad they got things together in the end.
This book touches on self-worth, guilt and forgiveness. The main character is totally in love with her husband, but he doesn't understand that. He is stuck with believing that he is not good enough for her and wants better for her. He learned not to make that choice for her and let her make her own choices.
The miscommunication between this couple was so profound that I feared love would not find it’s way! I rejoiced when it did! I loved the twist at the end with the appearance with an unexpected villain as well as another brother-in-arms. Completing this series is next on my agenda!
When Scarlett’s brother is killed in action, fellow soldier and billionaire Gabriel Winters knows that he will do anything to help his best friends family, even by marrying Scarlett. 4 years is a long time to wait for your husband to claim you. Gabriel now wants a divorce, Scarlett tells him the only that will happen is if she gets pregnant with his baby.
That was a sweet read! Wow, Gabriel's self guilt and punishment was driving me crazy. Dang it, ...he has so much to offer and he is such a giving guy. Besides, will all his billions he could get plastic surgery... Kudos to Scarlett... She went after what she wants, and that is Gave and his babies, not his billions. Love it!
I read this book in one setting. I love a good military love story. Gabriel and Scarlett were kindred spirits that met through tragedy, but was able to finally come together and recognize the love that they both had for each.
This was just such a good story with all the right elements working to make it a good story. The two main characters are likable and relatable. The writer gives you a little bit of everything and it comes off without a hitch.
Who doesn’t love a war hero. Selfless acts of kindness and bravery, who would love Gabriel. Great characters, good plot. I’ll need to read the other Winter brothers stories now.
This book is very good. I really like the whole love at first sight storyline. They are a good couple and I think any romance book lover would like this book. On to the next brother.
The story (itself) was good. You were able to put yourself in Scarlet and Gabriel's body. There needs to be an overhaul on the editing. The grammar throughout the book is less than desired.
I enjoyed this "retelling" of the story Beauty and The Beast. Yes, there were some faux pas but hell it's an over the top romance. I really didn't notice some of issues until after I read the other reviews. I love a HEA and this didn't disappoint.
This is a marvelous story with interesting and passionate characters. This is the first book which is great start of this amazing series. It's full of emotions and drama with sizzling hot romance.
I wasn't sure how I would like this book but I really enjoyed it. I would have loved to read a little more about the characters during the four years that got skipped but it was easy to put the facts together. I am definitely willing to try another book by this author.
This was a pretty fair read, it just seems to be missing a lot of story in between. I particularly enjoy a fully developed novel, this is stand alone book but leaves so many gaps where we have to assume before you go to the next brothers story.
