Girl #2

Girl, Unhinged

Rate this book
Emma is thirty-three and planning her upcoming wedding to the lovely Joe after finally finding her happy ever after. However Emma's life becomes more stressful as she tries to balance planning the wedding alongside a new college course and her full time job, which is made increasingly challenging by the arrival of a new demanding and obnoxious boss.

Emma struggles as she tries to please everyone: Joe, friends, family, and things reach a critical point causing the collapse of her relationship.

She is then forced to relook at her life, and what she's lost, while trying to move on with the support of her friends. Things seem to be getting back on track when Emma finds herself the victim of threatening letters. She is faced with the realisation that someone may not just be wanting to frighten her, but to actually cause her harm.

As Christmas approaches Emma is troubled by reoccurring thoughts of a lonely Christmas, particularly as everyone around her is in a loving relationship and looking forward to a romantic Christmas. This forces Emma to decide what she really wants, and if she's prepared to risk her heart one more time to get it.

Sasha Lane is known for her contemporary romance novels - they’re funny, relatable, and addictive.

Chick lit style with a hint of darkness.

Sasha says ‘I try to create characters that are everyday women so hopefully readers can find something about their personality or lifestyle that they can relate to and fall in love with them as much as I have while writing about them.

The idea behind my books is to show the challenges of everyday women trying to balance jobs/careers, with family, friends and relationships. It’s hard, and sometimes you have to laugh at yourself, which the main character, Emma, does, but I also wanted to show how important friendship is too at keeping us all sane!’

Girl, Unhinged, picks up where Girl, Conflicted left off, with Emma and Joe happy and in love. However, as they say, 'true love never runs smooth,' and Emma has her share of ups and downs in this one. Right from the beginning of the first book, I felt as if I knew Emma and her friend, Sophie personally, and that feeling continued throughout the second book.

The author, Sasha Lane has a unique flair for relating to her readers through Emma's first person point of view dialogue, to the point the reader cannot help becoming involved in the character's lives. Emma is a girl who is constantly thinking to herself, whilst at the same time relaying her thoughts to the reader. Her down to earth personality makes for very entertaining reading as she often battles with what she wants to say to people, as opposed to what she should say to them. The outcome is sometimes not quite as she had expected.

I loved Sophie’s character – the loyal friend always there for Emma, and the not to be forgotten gay friend Simon, who touched my heart as Emma’s best friend and protector. By the time I got to the end of the story, I didn't want to say goodbye to the lovable characters, hoping they will come back again and share their lives with us. A well written relaxing read I would highly recommend to lovers of Chick Lit and Women’s Fiction.

I have really enjoyed reading the 1st and now the 2nd instalment of these books. I love how relatable Emma and her friends are which makes you feel as if you are part of this story or a fly on the wall anticipating what they shall do next. :D

I think Unhinged was a perfect description!

I love your romance books Sasha, they're believable. Everything about them are threaded together in what I see as a normal way. It's the description of the person's feelings that make them romantic! I love the dark bits too, because life is like that, crap
