Love is in the air, but so is murder... The Country Acres Coven of Kensleigh Landing East is faced with the terrifying possibility that there is a serial killer in their small suburban town. The murderer seems to be targeting single women, especially those who have used a particular dating app. When Seneca teases Poe about her 'relationship' with Oliver, Poe does the only thing she can think of to prove that she's not interested in the nerdy wizard--she agrees to go on a blind date with someone via a dating app, unaware that a murderer could be using the very same app to pick his next victim. Meanwhile, Ellie's on Cloud Nine when her daughter's gorgeous math teacher asks her out on a date. She's thrilled at the prospect of being in a relationship again, but she's just not sure how she'll break the news to him that she's a witch. And was that a dating app that she just saw on his phone? Join the witches of the Country Acres coven as they look for love in all the most dangerous places... Reading Order for this Magic, Mistletoe, & Murder (A short prequel mystery) Demons Don't Play Fair Spells Like Teen Spirit (an optional short story featuring the witches) Date With Death
Ruby Blaylock (aka Jessica B. Woods) grew up in a small, southern town surrounded by colorful characters and lots of food. She loves a good helping of gossip and great food, not necessarily in that order. She is a country girl at heart and can often be found sitting on the back porch, sipping sweet tea and watching her fat hound dogs chase bugs.
If she's not reading a book, she's writing one, or reading one to her kids, who can always help her think up new ways to kill off annoying characters.
Wasn't so fond of the mystery in this one, everyone freaked out so much and jumped to conclusions. While I saw through the red herrings, I didn't guess the solution until it was presented. I wanted Ellie and Theo's relationship to blossom, there wasn't much time for that in this. Also it just ended on a surprise cliffhanger to set up the next book?!
Date with Death #3 - I had problems reading this story. Plus, being redundant on the same points of the dating issue, the suspicions against the high school math teacher being a dating app killer struck me as wrong. After the coven just met, Ellie decides to go to the teacher's lakeside cabin, after only one date the week before. How stupid is this train of thought: everyone's running around frightened and Ellie is one with the doubts about Theo first, and yet she's leaving town with him?
I couldn't read any more of this ridiculous plot (location 1147 of 1968 and it took HOURS to get there) and I enjoyed the other books of this series and love this author, but this book reeks of intelligence like W. C. Fields drinking a pot of hot green tea, unsweet. I contacted the author to review her books. 2*
Suburban Witch Series: Mistletoe, Magic & Murder (Prequel) - What a cute story! A well written, quickly read, humorous, fast paced short story with some funny, but smart characters that keep the reader involved with the well thought out plot. There's even talking cats, which I love in any story, The ending was a hoot! Has an overview of the story, which I appreciate knowing. I've read other books by Ms. Blaylock and have enjoyed them, too.
Demons Don't Play Fair #1 - OMGosh, I'm partway into chapter two and hurting myself laughing. Those cats are a trip! What started with humor ended with a pretty dramatic story. Well written, fast paced storyline; with the main characters developing more into their roles, still interesting and realistic; and some intriguing twists along the way. You know who the murderer is, but there's more to the story. Has an overview of the story, which I appreciate knowing. I've read other books by Ms. Blaylock and have enjoyed them, too. I contacted the author to volunteer for reviews. Suburban Witch Series: End
you might think if you had a bit of magic at your fingertips that dating would be a snap. not for the ladies in this coven!
as they try to um encourage? / intimidate the single ladies into dating, havoc reigns.
apps don't seem to make things easier - they mostly offer more chances to meet folks trying to exploit the system.
and maybe the local Cupid app has a serial killer on offer - certainly, there is at least one weirdo for Poe to go out with - and he seems to have multiple ids. but is he a killer, or just a freak?
what about Ellie's date? this hunky teacher seems to have a lot hidden. is it just getting to know you stuff, or is it murder?
Can the ladies of the coven see the maybe decent opportunities right in front of them, or will their dating life go to the dogs?
Murderous mayhem, and sisterly coven friendship and support.
I enjoyed this fun book, and I read it on Kindle Unlimited.
Very enjoyable novel about a coven of witch in a non magical neighbourhood just socializing, and trying to keep it safe. The local coven decides they need to start a "murder" club to solve a string of murders in town. The main clue they have is that all the women killed have the same dating app on their phones, as does one of the witches in the coven. A bad blind date, and secrets cause some interesting and humorous situations and the suspense builds until the murder is revealed. Another mystery is solved at the end that will make you want to read the next book. Well worth the read.
Ruby Blaylock knows how to write a witchy tail . A coven of four ,one married three single. As a single witch in a town of normals how do you find a mate and what do you do when the single women in town start being murdered one by one. I'ts may be time for your coven to check things out perhaps solve the mystery before one of thier own is in the murders sight.I'ts time you learned what a strong ,close group of witches will do for one another. 🙄 Kat
Living in this non-magical world can be hard on magical beings. The coven is very close and protective of each other. This was a fun magical journey. Even the familiars are funny and reveal several surprises. A fun and mysterious tale of love gone wrong; Or How to Not Keep the One You Love.
Looking for love can be very dangerous. A murderer is targeting single women. When Ellie starts dating her daughters math teacher is she putting her life on the line...you will have to read this entertaining story to find out!
An excellent example of unrequited feelings for a man that gates you as well as a murder investigation is in this book so greatly written by Ruby. I Loved it!
My favorite coven is back at again. This book focuses on Ellie getting back into the dating scene. I'd like to say dating is a priest but we all know it's not and it's no different for Ellie.
The other thing that Ellie must contend with are the many murders in their own little suburb that have a taste or should I say a hint of magic about them.
I still feel this book to be lighthearted and quirky because of the caring among the coven members but these witches are all so protective of each other and they never wish bad things to happen to their fellow members.
If you enjoyed Oliver and detective Daniels they do make an appearance in this book so does Uncle Mordecai.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and have voluntarily left a review of my own choosing.
