Rate this book

Kaiden Jericho is taking another test.

This time it's with his friends, but something is amiss.

Not everything is at it seems and no one has found Gin Sonny…yet.

Gin must test himself against any and all who beat him. He needs a new device to track down and help destroy one of the victims who got away.

Will anyone realize that Gin hasn't left Earth? Will Kaiden understand what is different about this test he is undergoing?

This time, the 'test' has real-world consequences.

---

You don't become the best of the best by staying alive. In the Animus, you are closer to perfection with each death you suffer.

Kaiden Jericho would rather skip the death part, thank-you-very-much.

Join Kaiden as he learns about Nexus, the Animus, and the opportunities that one fight brought him. Never has helping someone benefitted him so much.

The future is looking bright, except for the pain.

Notes:

Another fun entry into the series! I didn't like how the authors decided to tack on the extra story at the end. They could have figured out a way to incorporate it into the main arc vs here's this background bit you really wanna know but we're going to smash it on after the ending of this book. =P

Good add on. Bad placement.

Not as good as previous books in the series.

The story seemed fragmented, and there is a future Animus issue hinted at, but overall this book was just okay. Whet really soured this book was the extensive typos. Many sentences I had to reread because of missing words, wrong words, or apparent edits that retained wording before an edit. Book five definitely needs a proofread.

The ending ruined this

First off I must say that I am really enjoying this series. The characters and plot are very engaging not to mention the concept. However I feel like this book was the weakest yet, in the other books we saw Kaiden grow and develop, he made friends and learned that there is always someone better than him out there.

In this book we follow Kaiden again but it feels like he has reverted back to his old self outside of the Animus, where he tries to take on the world with just guns and ego. In the Animus he is a team player and focuses on trying out different approaches, and personally the end of the test this time around kind of ruined it, I don't if it because I thought it was cliche or just the fact that there was no build up to it.

Normally when a big reveal happens like that there is some clues to it scattered throughout the book but this was just foisted upon us, making the idea feel very underdeveloped and out of place.

Gin is still the same creepy SOB he was last time and he definitely one of the most memorable baddies I have had pleasure to read about. Good job.

Thank you for another fun and enjoyable read.

Pointedly Personal Action

See what I did there? Yep: shameless.

So this book was quite good in giving us more personal information on both heroes and villains- especially the villains. It makes the action more visceral, knowing more about tithe personalities behind the shootings and the knife work. It’s [hopefully] hard to emphasize with a psychopath, but one can empathize with how they got that way. Trauma be traumatic, after all. It will be very very interesting to see Gin “come home” and what all the players will do when he does. The man to man thing will be great on its own, but we have a cast of characters ready and able to throw down in that match too - all for various reasons. And while they’re all very badass, the one that sends a chill down my spine is the thought of a certain quiet Infiltrator getting glacially … responsive … towards anyone hurting her Ace. Leeets geeeet readyyyy to rummmble!!

Definitely recommended (15+)

Get an editor

I’m in to several of LMBPN Publishing’s series, and there are some I’m not into. This one has been fun other than the terrible editing. At this point, with all the experience, with all the people that appear to be involved with this company, you’d think they would do a read through. There is no way a second set of eyes looked at this manuscript before it was published. There were enough misused words, typos, and cut and paste problems to break the reader out of the story.

Both fun to read and incredibly boring.....

While the inera tions between Kaiden and Chief and the rest of the students is funto read, the training missions are just plain waaaaaaaaaaaay too long to keep interested in. And skipping 70% of a book is never a good sign. I toughed it out for 6 books but I have now lost interest.

Not enough character progress and 1 mission taking up 50 to 70% of the book.

Not as fast-paced as other books in the series; but still a good story, with a number of interesting bits of foreshadowing with regard to where the plot could go in the future.
However... will *someone* _please_ fix the many typos in the text. They kept throwing me out of the story, making me re-read sections to make sure I had correctly puzzled out the miss-spelt word.

The real world adventure was run in parallel with the school adventures in this one, with real time put into the overarching plot for the first time (been a few hints before, but nothing serious). So the story is progressing at last. It did get pretty dark, though, since we spent a lot of time in the POV of the antagonist, who is a serial killer.

4.5 really interesting having multiple Points of view in the story and more background info on some characters hope to see more of that in the next book and more about the animus and the school structure.

An excellent addition to the series

Action packed with realistic situations and lots of adventures. Talented good guys and psychotic bad guys make this book great.
I look forward to more from this series 😁

Great just great

Jericho was a bit subdued following events from the last book but still managed to be kick ass. So the Animus might not just be virtual reality? Gin's backstory makes me want to like him but NO! He is a bad guy

really like this series plenty of character expansion occuring and lots of plot turns a few wrinkles here and there and of course the inevitable nemesis will our protagonist evolve enough in the coming books to beat them or will it all end in tears...

Great

A few new twists and turns on this one. Loved the backstory on Gin. Also, I know that any editing issues mentioned earlier in other reviews have either been fixed or will be soon.

Good Read

Kaiden and his team are facing another test, but something is a bit hinky. His nemesis Gin Sonny is featured in the story and in a couple of chapters that tell of his beginnings. I like the action and snarky humor. I look forward to another book.

I liked the Gin origin at the end

Glad got the clean copy. More mayhem. Explosions. Gin revealed. Got to see a peek behind the curtain and find out that there's more going on here than I thought.

Should've been 4 stars

Now I got to give props to the villain? I think the author should have planned this a little better. They better start building in a new villain in preparation for killing this one off. He's got to go.

The end is near

All I can say is OMG. The way the author has thrown in another perspective after chapter 22 was mind blowing . What is the ANIMUS. Can they stop Gin sonny? Should they stop him? With all his tech make him unstoppable? These answers will be entered in the next…

The Mystery deepens

A quite involved story but one that is showing increasingly hidden depths and enjoyable to read as well. Feels like bit more of scene setter for further adventures in this one but still keeps me i interested.

Better, and better

Great read and the epilogue was a surprise. Can't say there's any part of me that feels likeness or compassion for Gin... he's the ultimate bad guy and so very twisted!

This was a bit of a letdown after book 4. Not memorable really, but I think the authors wanted to give our poor brains a break here. Also Gin. Freaking. Sonny. I hate this fictional character that doesn’t even exist, how dare the Anderles make me feel sorry for him.

Superb

Another excellent read. Awesome short origin of Gin looks like Kaiden will have his work cut out for him when they meet.

Good story! !

Good action, good characters. The bad guy is great, shame he has to die. Thought he would be killed off In this one, but the next will do.

OFF Story?

Well this series got confusing when it involved Gen Sonny a killer? Don't know why the story went this way but it saddens me...

Good book and fun universe

This book was good, the characters are fun, and even though he is the villain, the extra backstory on Gin was also interesting. I recommend this series.

Love the development of individuals and between all characters. And who doesn't love a well developed bad guy!

Animus

I only give it a 4 star rating because the author used some passages from, I believe moon 3. This book was a little different.
