Nightshade: Poems of heartbreak, love, and lust

Rate this book
Teenage werewolves, dreamy lovers, and monsters haunt this morbid collection of poems inspired by real-life events.

Stan uses creatures of the night and dark imagery to explore the dimensions of heartbreak and the forbidden subconscious, then brings the reader into the lighter side of life with love, nature, and witty story poems.

As a bonus, Stan also included poems inspired by her first young adult novel, Poet Tongue, a werewolf romance with horror elements.

So flip through the pages, cuddle with a black cat, and don’t forget to put a cauldron on the stove.

For the best magick, add a sprinkle of Nightshade.

Poetry sections include topics on:
1) Heartbreak
2) Love
3) The Mind
4) Nature
5) Story Poems
6) Poems Inspired by Poet Tongue, Stan's first young adult werewolf novel

Ever since she was young, Kyla Stan enjoyed creating fantasy stories. As a child, she used to fill up notebooks with fantastical ideas of mermaids and other ocean creatures, which were updated in her short story collection Ocean Song. Kyla knew at a young age that being a writer was her dream, so she pursued it at the young age of sixteen.

Kyla primarily writes for a young adult audience in the fantasy, horror, and contemporary literature genres. Some of the main themes within her work include mental illness, complicated family relationships, female empowerment, and environmental issues. She has a bachelor's degree in Communications, and a master’s in English and Creative Writing. Kyla is also an adjunct professor and teaches various levels of creative writing and English at Southern New Hampshire University.

Kyla loves animals, and shares her home with a variety of rescue pets. When she isn't writing, Kyla loves to watch baking competitions, play video games, and sewing.

A glimpse into everyday wonderings

There is a little bit for everyone: from poems about the dark side of human nature to heart break to mermaids (just to name a few).
Each of her poems evoke feelings of desolation or a desire for human connection. At times the bleak gives way to a little bit of hope. A great read for any poet enthusiast!

These aren't whimsical and light poems. The poetry within the pages of this book cut into the deepest part of the soul were we hide our dark secrets and thoughts. Every single poem calls out to the reader and will touch everyone differently.
