Confession time: I am a HUGE fan of Bridget - the books and the movies. I just love that she is a really good person, but so far from perfect it's not even funny, well actually it is. I listened to the audio on a day I knew was going to be a really bad day, and it helped so much. I was giggling and laughing out loud, and it felt like I was surrounded by old friends. There is nothing deep (or very new) to this (2.5) book in the series, and it's a novella more than a book, but I for one, loved it. If you are offended by swear words best give this a miss.

Fourth and final book in the Bridget Jones series, although this is far better placed as book three as it throws the timeline out to read this one last.
I really enjoyed this, it's very visual and I could see the film in my mind. I laughed a lot. The humour really came through on the page.
Am glad to have finished this series off.

The book has the same funny, lovable, self-deprecating voice as the first Bridget Jones book. Bridget's views of pregnancy veer from moving and tender, i.e,, when she refuses amniocentesis for fear of harming her baby -- to hilarious, i.e., when she tells people the baby is actually an elephant. One criticism: The scenes where she is working in the TV studio and talking into various teleprompters are hard to understand because the action can only be conveyed visually -- as they are successfully in the movie. Having Mark and Daniel as the two potential fathers made far more sense than the two possibilities in the movie. I look forward to future books exploring Bridget Jones' approach to the ordinary tasks of motherhood -- which I'm sure will be unique and hilarious.

This book has the unlucky distinction of following a pretty perfect movie and an even more perfect script (seriously, go read the script). It suffers as a result.
I've been dying to read Bridget Jones's Baby: The Diaries for ages, since before the latest movie debuted. It finally arrived this morning. I finished it about 30
minutes ago. My feelings about this book are a little complicated. I’ll try to explain.
This book is different from the movie in a few ways. The movie’s like they took the book and threw it in a blender, poured out some of the backstory and details, and added some new details plus chocolate to make it delicious. The movie is pretty damn delicious. The book is not as great, but it’s also not bad. (This sounds like damning with faint praise, but I promise it's not.)
BJB features our lovable cad Daniel Cleaver in place of Jack Qwant, which is not terrible. We know Daniel Cleaver, we love or love to hate Daniel Cleaver. He's there, he's funny. It's fine--except, it's not really, because . It's really hastily written. I'd argue it's straight up bad as a basis to start the story. The movie and the leaked script handle it much better.
Beyond that Bridget's initial hook-ups with are real throwaways (especially with Daniel). Again, they felt like set-up to get to the meat of the story. That's fine, but it would have been nice to get to really enjoy those momentary reunions as fans of the characters and pairings.
To avoid recounting the entirety of plot, what there is of it, I'll be brief. Bridget is wonderfully Bridget. Mark Darcy is himself and, when not suffering an identity crisis, is quite sexy. Daniel Cleaver is lovable, even when he's being a trash human being. All of Bridget's friends are still hilarious and self-involved. I love her dad. He's great. Everyone else is a work in progress, bless them.
The book was pretty good and I enjoyed it more or less. There were some laugh-out-loud funny moments, cringe-inducing moments, and some really, truly happy moments I’m glad I read. Overall, I didn’t love this book as much as I wanted to, but it was a good time. I’d recommend it if you love these characters and just have to have more of them. It bridges some of the gap between EoR and MAtB, if that's what you're looking for.
If you're looking for a book that stands alone (and some people I've talked to are), I wouldn't say it stands entirely alone. At least read the first book, Bridget Jones's Diary, to get a good feel of how book canon differs from the movies. I think you'll appreciate BJB more that way.
If you're looking for something more in line with the latest movie, read the leaked script. It does an admirable job of combining the strongest components of this novel with what ultimately made it to the screen. It's funny and heartwarming and bittersweet in a way that this book doesn't quite manage for most of its length.
tl;dr Good, not great. If you just miss these characters, give it a read, but I don't necessarily think you're missing anything if you saw the movie instead, except for Daniel Cleaver.

Bridget, ko Bridget. Tko ju voli biti će zadovoljan. Simpatično smušena, neodlučna, duhovita na svoj specifičan način. Iako sam prije čitanja pogledala film, svidjele su mi se obe verzije (kažem obe jer ima jedan dio koji se skroz razlikuje, ali ne smeta mi promjena). Možda čak i naginjem filmskoj verziji! :-o Uglavnom razbibriga zagarantirana!

I'll admit that for the first half of this book I was calling it 'Bridget Jones and the Movie Tie-In Cash-Grab' and it all just seemed like a rehash of the first book, with the added wrinkle of Bridget's pregnancy.
In the second half, however, I think Fielding really stepped up a gear and did some of her best writing yet. There were some genuine laugh-out-loud moments and I almost got a little misty eyed in places.
Still, I didn't much care for the Royal visit subplot and I can't just overlook the by-the-numbers nature of the first half of the book, so it's going to get a 3 star rating from me.

I've been doing some revision as I prepare to meet up with my old pal Bridget again, first re-watching the movie of Bridget Jones's Baby, then doubling down with this audiobook (it's not that much longer than the movie!). I'm glad I did though, because as much as I enjoyed the movie, I prefer this version of the story so much more - it just seems more authentic to the Bridgetverse. I can only assume Hugh Grant had some scheduling issues when the movie was shot, and they had to do a quick re-write of the author's vision.

I am going to keep this review short and sweet, just like this novella.
If you have read the Bridget books or seen the movies and liked it then you wont be disappointed in this novella that falls between book 2 and 3. And the whole time I was listening I was craving a glass of ice cold white wine....
I wasn't crazy about the audio narrator but you get used to her after a while.
This was quintessential Bridget, perfect for a girly road trip.
If you have read the Bridget books or seen the movies and liked it then you wont be disappointed in this novella that falls between book 2 and 3. And the whole time I was listening I was craving a glass of ice cold white wine....

I give up. You win, Fielding, you win.
I did not want to read this. I was certain I was going to hate it, falling as it did between The Edge of Reason and Mad about the Boy. Particularly as it was going to show a distinct break in Bridget and Mark's relationship. BUT. But I remembered that I thought the same about Mad about the Boy and ended up loving that book so I grudgingly ordered it from the library (there have to be some perks as a librarian, right?) It arrived today and I read it in a couple if hours. So funny I think I ruptured something. There is no jumping the shark here. Instead another bit of the story just slots effortlessly into place. If these books do nothing else, they show you how to not take yourself so seriously and to find humour in even the most messed up of situations. Really, really very good. I yield. I'm waving the white flag. If the author decides to write another book in this series I'll go willingly rather than grudgingly.

I saw the film before reading this. I missed Hugh Grant's character of Daniel Cleaver in the film, so I was pleasantly surprised when reading this to find that Daniel was the other possible father of Bridget's baby alongside Mark Darcy (in the film, Daniel is replaced with Jack played by Patrick Dempsey).
I found it quite funny at first and of course everytime I read Daniel's lines, I just picture him as Hugh Grant and how Hugh seems to talk in real life but of course as always, Daniel has never grown up and is a complete waste of space as a potential boyfriend/husband/father!
I found the film quite funny but I thought Renee didn't quite get the accent the same as previous films. The book has some similar scenes to the film but I didn't like how Mark's character was in the book, he came across a bit wimpy. I did laugh when Bridget told him to stop being such an alpha male...Mark Darcy an Alpha Male? That's a joke in itself.
The funniest line was when Mark and Bridget have sex when she is heavily pregnant and Mark says 'pregnant women don't shag like that' and Bridget replies 'oh yes they fucking well do' which of course is a play on the lines from the end of the first book and the first film.
It was an OK read and similar to the film but I still can't forgive Helen Fielding for killing off Mark Darcy in the third book!

I'm a massive fan of the Bridget Jones series and this one did not disappoint. I was howling with laughter and crying with sadness all in one sitting.
If you need a pick me up that's not too heavy, this is definitely the book for you.

Oh, how much I wish to have read 'Mad About the Boy' last because I loved it and it would have been a great ending to the series. Unfortunately, I read the books in the publishing order because I got them from my library and didn't know better.
Yes, I started to like Bridget more as the series continued after not really having a connection with her in book 1 (and for the main part in book 2). I came to love her character in 'Mad About the Boy' because she finally matured and had grown into a woman I enjoyed reading about.
A small part of this joy was destroyed by reading Bridget Jones's Baby: The Diaries. The book is set between book 2 and 3 - and it should be read after book 2.
Talking about its content isn't possible without spoiling anything. Let's just say that you can finally see Bridget growing up a little after messing everything up. Just like she has done numerous times in the past.
It's a nice read but honestly, I would have enjoyed it much more if this wasn't my last book in this series. I don't see myself rereading them in the future (too many flaws for my liking) but as a series, those books aren't bad. You just have to stick around a while to see the main character mature. It was nice to root for her once she found out what was important in her life.

I'll start by explaining my Bridget Jones history for context. I've read Bridget Jones's Diary and I read Edge of Reason. I've watched all three movies, then read the book Bridget Jones's Baby. I won't read Mad About the Boy because I just can't deal with that plot twist. Anyway, that's my history with this character.
I don't know whether this book was written before or after the Bridget Jones's Baby movie.
There's a pretty significant difference between the two.
In the movie, Bridget is either pregnant by Mark or by a new man named Jack.
In the book, the father is either Mark or Daniel Cleaver. Ofcourse you can imagine the extra level of drama if these two men that have competed for Bridget for about a decade could be the dad.
Also, in the movie version, there were actually two potential dads that would both have been good dads. In the book, Daniel is still Daniel and let's just say that Bridget doesn't have two potentially great options.
I'm going to say something that I rarely say...I think the movie was better.
I laughed a ton while watching the movie and found it incredibly heart warming too.
The book was ofcourse clever for including Daniel but I didn't enjoy the overall story as much as the movie.

Bridget is stuck with a quandry in this book - she's pregnant, but doesn't know who the father is; is it Mark or Daniel? And can she persuade both of them to a) take it seriously and b) be supportive?
It follows a similar pattern to the other books - everything going wrong then every thing works out for the best. I found it amusing still and I was very relieved by the ending!

I find Bridget to be both highly annoying and very endearing. This is a fairly funny book, I chuckled alot and genuinely laughed a few times. It's the fourth book though, and I think my tolerance for the irritating aspects of her character are a little lower. While I enjoy the books, this is one of those cases where I prefer the films.

I have read this little book, English title
Bridget Jones's Baby
with an eye of mingled amusement and surprise. For a curious fact I still cannot imagine how much the conversation interested me, although little did I know of the series of Bridget Jones, this being the first one that accidently grabbed my attention, possibly because the title was differently translated into Romanian

Upon my word, I thought, the stuff grows vastly interesting, but of course only if it is viewed from fiction's side. It did, or possibly wasn't supposed, not feed a sincere appetite for thought, or/and the excitement of grave problems awaiting solution, but it felt nice to fall into this habit, even for a short while, where your mind is available to petty shocks and contacts of the world. I was hugely relieved, and pleased to observe, that Bridget Jones gets her glow of happiness at the end of the tale. Secondly I begin to perceive that I am growing old, considering I am positively not prepared for little incidents like this :D

Oh guys, I loved this book! I just loved it! Bridget Jones is, and will stay, my absolute hero, I've grown up with Bridget and no matter what other people say I love her and will support her no matter what and I think I will never be ready to say goodbye to Bridget. And I also think that "Bridget Jones' Baby" is probably the best book in the series.
I was laughing out loud already reading the first page and it stayed like this till the end. Yes, there were some poignant moments in this book as well, and I had a feeling that Bridget has matured, that she's not so scatter - brained as she used to be, but she was also the good, old Bridget that I love so much. I don't want to recount the whole plot or to spoil the reading for you but it is already known all around the world that Bridget is expecting a baby and there are two candidates for a father: Mark, and of course, Daniel - is this not a hallmark of Bridget's? She is just the wonderful Bridget, period. Mark Darcy is, as usuall, stiff and he also suffers an identity crisis but I love Mark totally and I just buy him as he is. And Daniel Cleaver, with his novel, oh god, it was brilliant! I think it is impossible NOT to love Daniel Cleaver, no matter what he does or says - am I right or am I right? It is also a reencounter with Bridget's old friends, and it felt as if I've been meeting with my own old friends, and it was a lovely, great feeling to be back with all the smug married and the singletons.
So really, you won't hear a bad word from me about this novel. There were plenty of laugh - out - loud moments, plenty of embarrassing moments and plenty of sad and truly happy moments. In fact, the book was unputdownable for me and I've devoured it in only a few hours, forgetting about everything, so great it was to be in Bridget's world again.
I really don't understand why so many people judge this book on the grounds of the film - book is a book, film is a film, or is there something that I don't know? I just think it is unfair to blast the novel because the film was better - I am reviewing the book, not the film, and I should be as objective as possible.
The story is a kind of bridge between Edge of Reason and Mad about the Boy. It's so typically Bridget, and even though she's more adult now she's still so prone to accident, but I had a feeling that she's wiser, you know? She's writing a diary about her pregnancy to her baby, though I'll be totally honest with you, I'm not sure if I'd like to read this diary as a child as it was verrry honest and Bridget was verrry open about her life and all the events. There were some of the most brilliant one - liners ever and the first that jumps to my mind is Daniel telling that it would be much easier if they first asked if they can enter - just read it for yourself, really!
It is a very entertaining but also very raw and honest book, the perfect mix of fun and poignancy and it is a must read for all Bridget's fans. She may be a grown - up but she's still a mess and this is why we all love her so much, right?

In fact, the book was unputdownable for me and I've devoured it in only a few hours, forgetting about everything, so great it was to be in Bridget's world again.
I really don't understand why so many people judge this book on the grounds of the film - book is a book, film is a film, or is there something that I don't know? I just think it is unfair to blast the novel because the film was better - I am reviewing the book, not the film, and I should be as objective as possible.
The story is a kind of bridge between Edge of Reason and Mad about the Boy. It's so typically Bridget, and even though she's more adult now she's still so prone to accident, but I had a feeling that she's wiser, you know? She's writing a diary about her pregnancy to her baby, though I'll be totally honest with you, I'm not sure if I'd like to read this diary as a child as it was verrry honest and Bridget was verrry open about her life and all the events. There were some of the most brilliant one - liners ever and the first that jumps to my mind is Daniel telling that it would be much easier if they first asked if they can enter - just read it for yourself, really!
It is a very entertaining but also very raw and honest book, the perfect mix of fun and poignancy and it is a must read for all Bridget's fans. She may be a grown - up but she's still a mess and this is why we all love her so much, right?

I have always been a huge fan of the Bridget Jones's diary series. I've seen all the films and read all the books. With out a doubt Bridget is a hugely loveable character.
Having watched the movie and having one of the main characters sadly missing, I was so pleased to see that Daniel is very much in the actual book. It just wouldn't be the same without him. Even though I loved the film, I do think it would have been absolutely perfect if it had been in keeping with the book but obviously Hugh Grant must have had other commitments.
Poor Bridget always seems to be getting her life together at the end of every book but at the start of another new book her life is sadly back off track again. Her and Mark are like yo yo's. Forever coming and going. They are such the perfect couple yet constantly make stupid mistakes that see them drifting apart yet again.
Daniel is and always will be a big child. He's one of those ones that will never settle down. Even though he is very fond of Bridget, and probably quite good in bed, we all know he is just soooo wrong for her.
I have to say the whole pregnancy thing, with the scans and anti natal clinics was just hilarious. Only Bridget could make an embarrassing dilemma into something so much fun. Well for the readers that is as I'm sure she would rather not be in that situation.
It's great to see so many of the much loved characters again. From Bridget's friends to her mum and dad, to the fabulous two love interests. I always know that I'm in for a highly enjoyable reading experience when I pick up this authors books. So hope there is going to be more as without a doubt Bridget is going to be one of those mums where the children end up looking after her!

Книги като тази винаги предизвикват у мен смесени чувства. Помня колко много се забавлявах с първите две книги за Бриджет Джоунс. Тогава те бяха за мен нещо ново, забавно и интересно и доколкото помня, не минах с едно прочитане.Но в някакъв момент им се наситих и минах към други жанрове.
Докато преди три години излезе "Бриджет Джоунс: Луда по онова момче".
Тя беше по-тъжна, по-сдържана, по-зряла. Не толкова свежа като първите две - може би и защото вече смятах, че "познавам" Бриджет и искам да я помня каквато беше в първите две книги.
И въпреки това... когато наскоро попаднах на "Бриджет Джоунс: Бебе на хоризонта", я взех - да си довърша поредицата.
А сега се чудя какво да кажа.
Първо ме учудва самата хронология - по ред на излизане тя е четвърта, но по хронология на събитията е след "Бриджет Джоунс на ръба на разума" и преди "Бриджет Джоунс: Луда по онова момче". Тези, които очакват да срещнат отново щурата Бриджет, э няма да останат /съвсем/ разочаровани. Тя си е там, но сега се мъчи да бъде... хм... сериозна и още по-хм... отговорна. Понякога даже й се получава. Краят е предвидимо щастлив, само си мислех: "Много късмет ще му трябва на това бебе с такава майка".
Книгата е... сладка. Написана пак с чудесното чувство за хумор на Хелън Филдинг. Четох я с удоволствие, и я препоръчвам на тези, които са чели другите книги от поредицата. Ако ви е домъчняло за Бриджет - давайте! Предстоят ви забавни часове.

I enjoyed Bridget Jones's Diary and the movie based on the novel. Bridget was fresh and fun. I read the second book in the series, but missed the third installment. When I won a copy of Bridget Jones's Baby from Read it Forward I anticipated revisiting Bridget. I'd been reading many heavy and dark books. I needed a bit of fun fluff.
I found book four to be formulaic. Bridgit, Mark, and Daniel, even Jones's parents, were exactly who we've always known them to be. The stories seemed, well, thin.
But I recall my Jane Austen professor teaching about the satisfaction readers get from the known, the expected anticipation fulfilled, and the wish-fulfillment ending. This book offers readers all that. Like an old-fashioned sitcom, the characters don't change and we love it. Their stupid reactions are true to what we have always known about them, and we feel self-satisfied that we knew all along how it would be. And we do get the ending we always wanted.
Which all adds up to exactly the kind of read I needed: a few hours with old friends, nothing taxing, a few laughs shared, and when I turned out the light there were no troubling thoughts to keep me awake. Sweet dreams--Thanks, Bridgit. You did it again.
