Wake had lived in fear for far too long. Life hadn’t been easy for him. Every day he resisted his natural instincts to claim the one female meant for him. An event from his past stopped him in his tracks every time his primal urges pushed him toward her.

Paige accepted the role she played in Wake’s life. She was the one he wanted but never allowed himself to have. But when someone else showed interest in her, Wake had to decide once and for all.

Putting his heart on the line left the shifter vulnerable, something he never wanted to be again. And just when he gave in to his instincts, fate dealt the pair a cruel hand.

Nightmares came true, causing Paige to flee to the only place she felt safe—in the arms of Wake.

Pack life wasn’t an easy life, but Paige wouldn’t give up the man who held her heart. Only together could the two move forward and find the happiness they both deserved.

Audiobook review. Fear is powerful. It can stop someone from doing something as much as it can push them to do something they might not otherwise do. It’s a testament to one’s character how one uses its power.

Wake’s growth in this novel is evidenced by how he transitions from one end of the spectrum to the other. While I admit it was at times frustrating to wait for this development to happen, I respect that it takes time to establish his behavior and patterns before moving forward.

Paige was a little more balanced. I admired that while she knew what and who she wanted, she also knew what she deserved and she wasn’t willing to give up on herself.

The plot had some originality and though the pace was on the slower side for me, it worked out in the end. The writing was good overall. The narrators, Troy Duran and Sarah L. Colton did a great job with their transitions, inflections, tone and pitch.

I am really enjoying this paranormal world!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙❤️💚💜💖
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌎🌍
Character development: ☺️🙃😳🥰🤓
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The Hero: Wake - he was a submissive wolf shifter. During a war with another wolf pack and the vampires, he was taken by the vampire Benedict and held captive for months. He lived through what Benedict did to him, brought back by the Avynwood pack doctors and Paige’s voice. He just walked through the motions of life without really living. He couldn’t believe Paige would actually love him and wouldn’t let himself have her. His best friend is Aire, she is a wolf with the strength of a vampire.

The heroine: Paige - Aire is helping Paige to get closer to Wake. Aire thinks Wake just doesn’t know what is good for him. Paige is human, she thinks of herself as an interloper in the pack, though the pack has welcomed her. At one point after being rejected by Wake, she tried to go back to a normal life and dated a guy named Chad from her hometown, but found him to be boring. Her parents are away a lot since they are lawyers with their own firm. Paige wants everlasting swoon-worthy love.

The Story: Whenever Wake lets his wolf run free, he goes far from the pack mansion to the highest point on the Avynwood property. It is his place, to anyone else, it looks like he is just looking out over the vast area, but he is really looking at his mate, Paige. Wake will never allow them to claim her though, he battles to stay a safe distance away from her. Benedict had once manipulated Wake into believing that another man’s mate was his and some terrible things happened after that. It shaped him and now he won’t claim Paige.

This was quite a different world than most shifter books. The vampires and shifters are friends and some even live together, also some shifters can get vampire powers. When a shifter shifts and then shifts back, they still have their clothes on. It is some sort of fae magic or something. Vampires don’t get burned in the sun. I really liked the story and the characters were terrific. I especially liked the vampire brothers Ford and Solomon. I can’t wait to get to each of their stories.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Sarah Colton and Troy Duran. Sarah has a great voice, youthful and pleasant. She is great at showing emotion through her voice. Troy Duran is as well. He has a deep, sexy voice and is one of my all-time favorite narrators. I choose audiobooks specifically if he is narrating. I got this audiobook in a complete set of books 1-5 in the series, which was nice and well worth the price of one audiobook.

Wake's Claim is the first book in the Paranormals of Avynwood series which to the addicts out there is the spin-off to The Ariane Trilogy. Let me start off by saying it isn't required reading but GO BACK AND READ IT FIRST!!!!!!!

Sorry that came off wrong. Let me try again! Do not even think about picking up this book until after you devour The Ariane Trilogy. *Rolls eyes and buffs* Fine.

*coughs and mockingly says* It is not required. The author says so. BUT I SAY READ THEM FIRST! You will appreciate the characters, the relationships, and past drama so much more if you do!

Now back to our regularly scheduled program!

Wake's Claim is all the feels, all the tension, and all the heat a YA novel can give. This shifter will make you want to shake him, strangle him, and have everyone you know crawl into bed with him. (Sorry inside joke!) But it's not just Wake who will capture your heart, there are plenty more paranormals around to tease you and keep you interested. Vampires, shifters, and Fae oh my! With so many dreamy, sarcastic, and broody characters waiting for their turn, I hope Michelle Dare never stops writing. I long for a field trip to Avynwood. I would totally chaperone. Or even a book signing....😘

I have to get an in. I need to. Maybe Solomon will bring me around!?! A girl can only hope!

See what I gushing about. You will get caught up in the love, the snark, and feels of Avynwood quicker than Solomon can turn your words against you.

I'm claiming Wake and Paige one can't go with out the other lol! What an amazing story! Wake has self doubt and doesn't think that he deserves Paige but Paige thinks he doesn't want her!!
This book is every emotion all round in one big ball!
Michelle Dare's writing flows with such ease as her characters come to life, it ebbs and flows gracefully with every page that is written, I am star struck!!

Wake suffered recent trauma that left him in a very fragile state.
He knows his mate is Paige but he’s too paralyzed with fear and it keeps him immobile.

Paige hangs out with the pack and is thinking about moving on, but it’s really when another shifter expresses interest in her and then she’s taken, does he wake up and finally take action.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

3 1/2 stars. — Angsty story about Wake who’s a shifter and Paige who’s not - who are fated to be together but due to circumstances, Wake tries to resist. A major part of the story is spent with Wake denying his feelings for Paige and staying away from her while at the same time wanting her and not wanting anyone else to have her. She’s mostly hurt and confused by his behavior. It does tend to get repetitive but that’s because Wake and Paige keep cycling in and out of the same thing without moving forward. I’m not one for alpha-types these days and Wake is very alpha so I was hot and cold with him. When not focused on their issues, the story delves into the recent history of the pack and all the other supernatural beings. I enjoyed the audiobook. Both narrators were good and I’d give the next book a go.

*I won a copy of the audiobook from the author.

Nice palate cleanser. Enjoyed the evolution of the romance. It got repetitive, but it was an easy listen with really good world building. Also love the premise of so many different paranormal intermingling.

What a book. My heart broke for both Wake and Paige. I could understand why Wake didn't want to claim Paige but it was heartbreak as well. So glad they both got their happy ending but did laugh at Solomon. He was doing to Wake what Ford did to Orion.

The writing in this book is awful. The author repeats the same things throughout. And the dialogue is very unnatural. I liked the story which is the only reason I was able to suffer through the crappy writing.

Note: I frequently listen to this book when I can't sleep at night. So even though I've only officially read it twice, I've probably listened to it dozens of times.

Review:

I'm going to be completely honest here. I almost put this book down. The beginning of the book got under my skin so much. I just can't even begin to explain it. One of my biggest turn offs with books is the angst stuff that tends to hit lovers at random. Well, mainly when it's been drawn out in the most excruciating and painful way possible. I stuck with the book anyways. I'm glad I did. It really turned around. The only thing I want to critique is that I wish they had drawn out some of the things that happened in the book.

I really adored Paige. In ways, I saw myself in her. She's sweet and loyal. I loved her friend Ari too. Wake is the problem I had with the story. I mean I get that he'd been burned in the past, but COME ON! It was a bit dramatic. All the characters were pretty amazing. Some had too much time in the background for my liking. My favorite was Solomon. He kind of reminded me of Spike from Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

Both narrators were pretty great. They made a great duo. I'm not sure if I've listened to anything from Sarah L. Colton before. I feel like I have heard at least one book by Troy Duran though. I can't say for sure. Either way, I'd be willing to hear other books narrated by both of them. They have talent.

The book was really great after I got past the part that was getting under my skin. I'm really glad that I gave it a chance and stuck with it. I fully encourage anybody who struggles with it to stick with it to at least the halfway point. If they still don't like it after that, then they are more than welcome to put it down. They will be missing out though. This book gets great. I see it's a book 1. I'll have to look into the rest of the books.

I really really loved this story. I would rate it as a 4.5, but since we can't give half stars.🤷 But I would like to point out one thing that just rubbed me wrong and threw the entire conversation off for me. Wake is timid and not sure of himself. So a non-confident person would not use the term "baby" ughhhh this drove me nuts. Confident people call their significant others "baby" .This just threw off the entire book for me. Had he said while being shy and Paige told him that she liked it I would believed it. But for him to just use that term so loosely witch such confidence isn't who he was. It may be who he is now but definitely not in the beginning.

OH my stars! Where to start with this one! Let me just say that you need to read the Ariane Chronicles to get the full effect of this book, however you can sorta read it as a standalone. With that being said, you do want to know what culminated to this point of Wake’s life. Oh and to toss out there, Ford is still mine. I don’t share well and this story just made him even more mine because of his wit and banter with everyone!
Shall we get to the fun stuff? The connection that Paige and Wake have is undeniable however, Wake does not want to have Paige endure his life. But how can you deny what the heart wants? There were times I really wanted to smack Wake for the pain he caused for Paige, though I understand where he is coming from. He is such a pained soul. My heart broke for him and Paige so much. Then when you have the twists and turns tossed in, my mind is racing to know more.
This series solidifies the fact that Dare has a talent for writing these types of stories. Wake’s Claim is just amazing as you are thrusted back into the world that Dare has created and it honestly makes you want to be a part of it. My heart raced, I wanted to laugh but scream at the same time. The fluidity and the depth of detail with not only the characters but the back story, makes you feel like you are living it and watching it. I am seriously counting down to my man’s story but trust me, Wake will make you swoon on every level as well!

I had already read Wake's Claim and then I had the opportunity to listen to the audiobook. I feel even deeper in love with Michelle Dare's paranormal world. Wake's audiobook is amazing, Troy Duran and Sarah L Colton do an amazing job bringing the story to life. I felt all the emotions, passion, and love in Ms. Dare's words.
Wake fights his wolf, who knows Paige is his mate. He feels inadequate and self-conscious after being taken advantage of by another paranormal who put him under a spell causing his life to implode. Even though he loves and knows Paige is his. He just can't bring himself to claim her but also can't help guarding her every night. As the book progresses, Wake matures and realizes he cannot fight fate but fate may not always be kind in the paranormal world.
Paige loves Wake but feels hopeless about their situation. Trying to move on isn't easy and as she moves through the story she becomes a much stronger woman than she appeared in the Ariane trilogy.
I am the first to say I'm not usually a paranormal reader but I love this world created by Michelle Dare. Her characters have become like old friends. Their relationships are all so close and intertwined the reader gets caught up on others in the world. I look forward to each and every book set in this paranormal world.

Wake oh my sweet Wake I have wanted you to be happy since I was first introduced to you in the The Ariane Trilogy, which you need to read. I will say again I don't normally go for paranormal, shifters any thing paranormal its just not my thing. What is my thing is a story with characters that make you feel invested, I love these guys and how they love is breath taking to read about, it is in their DNA to give everything to their mate, and thats what all women want. Wake was so broken and depressed by past mistakes that he redifyied , he felt inadequate like he wasn't good enough, he felt he didn't deserve a mate or to be happy. His character was strong in his own way and by admitting that he felt lacking made me love him harder, it not something that always comes up in books, and this author rocked it.Paige was just feisty enough to not only handle Wake but she really fills his heart and head with more confidence. I love all the action not as much as the prior series but it did not need it. Loved all the bro love that was evident throughout the book. The entire family dynamics makes you wish you where a fly on the while. A well deserved ending for my Wake

Language: PG (2 swears, o "f"); Mature Content: PG13 (nudity, innuendo, sex); Violence: PG13
The first half of the story got to be pretty repetitive while the main characters dealt with their biggest hurdle of their relationship, which made it more relieving than exciting when they overcame it. My biggest hangup with this book is that it is very dependent on one of Dare's other series, coming after those books. While the story came through without me having read that whole series, the constant references and explanations of what happened then was bothersome.

New Found Story Teller

I always love a great shifter book. Lately even when story was good, it did seem have great deal very graphic sexuality. This book kept me on my toes but thankfully not over top sex where I had try skip sometimes several chapters avoiding stuff. Also it's first I've read where such funny vamps and wolf shifters were such great friends. Great Read. Looking forward next book.

Overwhelming and overlapping relationships

I thought this was a standalone. Seems you need to read the Ash Moon series prior to this to understand in detail all that took place. There is enough story relived throughout this book to get the gist. However it may help make the weird relationships make better sense but still weird.
The first 45% of this book I really didn't like it. Remember in my mind it was a standalone. It didn't make sense to me how severe Wake was punished for perusing a potential mate when it was discovered that a vampire did mind control on him to act that way. So he's kicked out of his pack (His dad is alpha), he joins a bad pack and is almost annihilated by an evil vampire. For these past experiences he's afraid to trust his mate bond/feelings he now has for Paige. He is messed up, broken and lost. You'd think his original pack would show kindness, understanding and mercy...nope. He gets sent away. This Ari female character totally butts in. In his life, his thoughts and his choices. Absolutely no respect. His mate Paige is her best friend...So what. Mating involves Paige and Wake but Ari inserts herself in EVERYTHING. BTW, she has a mate but has this creepy funky relationship with a vampire Ford too who inserts himself into Ari's life and her mates. I just didn't get that mate relationship respect status out of this book from anyone. Paige who whines and complains about wanting Wake pushes him aside and around when he finally overcomes his issues. Hypocrite much?. There was a lot of hypocrisy and I just didn't like it. Again, you need to read a different series to get all the relationship details with the players in this book but it's not like you can't figure out the storyline. Tough for me to rate this one even though there wasn't a disclaimer to read a previous series before starting it.

This is probably a great YA story. I didn't know that when I downloaded it.

The characters were a bit immature for me and jumping into it was confusing. I found out why when I went to look at the author's other work. I'd advise you read her Ariane series 1st. I haven't read it, hence my confusion. When I looked it up I discovered that, yes indeed, these characters were in and have just graduated from high school, that explained the immaturity.

But, honestly, I had to force myself to get through the first half of the story because it's simply repetition. Paige and Wake are mates. Paige wants Wake, and vice versa, but Wake won't claim Paige. So we get chapters and chapters of this constant push and pull, and the characters repeating themselves over and over again. Frankly, had I been Paige, I'd have run, not walked, away from this wishy-washy emo wolf shifter, Wake. His constant silly dilly-dallying over his mate claim was ridiculous, no matter his supposed reasons. He reminded me of a middle school student, ages 11-14, rather than nearly grown man. I believe he's 19 in this, though I'm not sure. I know Paige is in her 1st year of college.

So, yeah. Definitely a YA novel, which isn't necessarily bad, but way too much teenage angst for me.

I don't know why my summer reading has been mostly about mates, but this book didn't disappoint. Wake's Claim follows the perspective of Wake, a wolfshifter who doesn't want to accept his mate bond, and Paige a human girl who wants nothing more than Wake to accept their bond. Wake tries his best to stay away, but in the end, can true love really be avoided?
Additional Thoughts (contains spoilers):
~Wake was a tad bit annoying in my opinion for the first couple of chapters. I understand that he went through a lot of trauma, but the I want you but can't have you attitude was frustrating.
~I didn't like how territorial Wake was towards Paige. Girls should be allowed to have guy friends without their boyfriend getting possessive. I kind of wish Silas found someone who could truly love him the same way Paige loves Wake.
~I would date Ford in a heartbeat, he seems like such a sweet and charming vampire.
~I want to be best friends with Solomon, his sense of humor is what got me to finish this book.
~Why is it that almost every book about mates and werewolves that I've read this summer ends with an epilogue of the female pregnant with twins?
~Imagine your water breaking on your wedding day oh lord.

Wake and Paige's Stalemate . . .

Wolf shifter Wake should have listened to his wolf instead of being afraid to accept what Fate has delivered to him. Paige is a human and is Wake’s mate. But because of a magic incident in the past, he is holding back. He wants Paige to be safe and away from the paranormal creatures, even though she is very familiar with them and has friends among the vampires. She knows she is Wake’s mate and is willing to accept him, but he stubbornly resists until she finally gives up.

After all of his avoidance of her and pushing her away, Paige decides to date a human guy, Silas, who is interested in her. She does not feel what she feels with Wake, but it’s a start on living her own life and not wasting her time on someone who won’t even try to accept their relationship. Will a car accident draw him back to her when he hurries to the hospital? Will he realize they are meant to be? Or is he still not willing to commit to her? She doesn’t want mere protection – she wants his unconditional love. If he can’t give it, she wants him out of her life. What will he choose as she begins to cry?

At the beginning I was confused. There are many references to other horrible things that have happened to these characters mutuel times. Since I thought this was the first in the series I now have to wonder if it’s some type of spin off.

Upon getting to know Wake I am not sure why he isn’t claiming his mate. I thought that’s what all wolves waiting their whole life for? I really felt sorry for Paige. She wants him but he denies her so she tries to move on.
My favorite parts and character all include one guy....Solomon the Vamp. He cracked me up with all his crazy words. I loved his whole “best friend” thing he thinks he has going with Wake. This character was needed to lighten up the story.

Overall it’s a good story once I got past a few things. I really liked Soloman and Ford as my favorite characters. This is a first time author for me. The story was nicely done and the characters were sad, dark and a bit of fun. I did listen to this on audio and Troy Duran and Sarah L Colton did a wonderful job.

Wake's Claim is the first book in the Paranormals of Avynwood series. It is linked to Ariane's series. It helps if you have read her trilogy before reading the books in this series. The characters in Wake's Claim are the ones that we love from Ariane's series and the other Avynwood Pack books.

Finally, Wake and Paige get their happily ever after, but not before taking us through heart-wrenching angst. The great thing about these books, and especially this one, is that through all of the drama, there are many humorous moments, particularly when the vampire brothers Ford and Solomon are in the scene. The romance makes you feel giddy, young, and hopeful.

There are a few surprises in the storyline and a significant loss. As always, the Avynwood Pack rallies and takes care of its family. The depths of their bonds are intense and phenomenal. Ford's Fate is next in the series, and I am eager to see him get the woman who owns his heart.
