Warning!!! My review doesn't really make sense, but the book didn't either so YOLO 😅

Review for book 1 & 2

I was genuinely excited about this new Emma Hamm original. Coming off a high from the “Heart of the Fae (The Otherworld)” Heart of the Fae (The Otherworld, #1) by Emma Hamm series, my expectations would leave me greatly disappointed.

While the premise was interesting... Dragon shifter Sigrid of Wildewyn forced to marry the boy king, Nadir of Bymere. He's the spare that was never meant to be Sultan.

Sounds interesting right? I mean... Who ever reads about a H who starts out as a boy king, only later to turn into a man? Alpha? The "alpha" / strong character roles were switched from the very beginning between the MCs, and I found myself curious how it would pan out. Would love to see a strong independent heroine learn how to empathize and soften her edges, while a childlike/selfish Hero becomes stronger and more assertive (possessive would be nice too 😉). It's just something I don't normally see in the romance genre.

My eagerness after looking at this beautiful cover quickly fell flat. This dragon themed fantasy romance story did not do the cover justice.

This universe was interesting, and had potential, but because of all the waiting around, random and pointless interactions, boring dialogue, and lackluster scenes, the execution left me wanting. Of course we had the beautiful scenery descriptions, Emma Hamm can create gorgeous imagery in ones mind, but I found myself skimming it in order to hopefully find something juicy/interesting.

When developing the stories world base, it's important to establish a rich and believable universe. However, the characters in this story kept making decisions/choices that contradicted what the story set them up for. And the universe kept throwing us randomness. Hard to explain without spoilers.

The past, present, and future didn't mesh... richly. It was told to us, rather than grounded with supporting scenes. Book 1 was mostly all about the present, while book 2 touches on the past and worries/concerns for the future.

I know predictability can be an issue for people/readers. They like never knowing what characters are going to do. But there is also a story pathway to consider. Sometimes a predictable story line means that the author has executed the world building and dialogue up perfectly. Instead, it felt like Emma Hamm threw bits and peaces out there for shock value, instead of following the natural flow.

The randomness, or oddness didn't contribute or build the story up...

Unimportant character: "I'm for some reason going to tell you NOW something important, even though it is maybe the worst possible time to do so, and I've had plenty of opportunities to do so in the past, but I'm going to do it now because that is just what I'm going to do."

I felt completely detached from the entire story, and really had no reason to care about the politics, the different kingdoms, the ROMANCE, and so on and so on.

I was thrown into this world and all of these issues, but I didn’t really know what was going on. The MCs were bipolar, and could never seem to make up their mind about what side they were on, or what their beliefs were. Very erratic and back and forth... which is frustrating when you're trying to get a feel and develop a connection with a character. The lack of depth in the story, romance, character connections, and character development made it so that at the end of the day, nothing really stuck. It just felt like a big waste of time, and that’s NOT how I want to feel after spending a few hours with a gorgeous book.

The history in the book was just told to us, instead of shown. "Don’t tell me about the past, show me!" Would have been helpful to maybe provide a flashback to help us relate and bond with the MCs ancestors.

So you don’t believe in magic, but you can turn into a dragon. hmm…

**Voila. Woosh** "We are mates and can talk" Mates? Really? When there is no connection other than they are both "the last dragons!"

Nothing in the storyline made me understand why certain characters felt compelled to embark on certain journeys or make various choices.

"I'm going to kill you! (but then at the last second) I'm going to save you!"

The characters lacked dimensionality. They were just random!

I want to naturally understand a character. The foundations of the characters did not set us up for following their motivations within the story.

Basically... nothing was complete or multifaceted so everything felt flat, was unclear, and boring.

Kinda like my review, no? 😅

I devoured this in one day. Oh my heart. This has to be my favorite series by Emma Hamm. My heart broke for Nadir. The pain and loneliness he endured for so long and being someone so young to have to feel that nobody loved him or was looking out for him the way they should have been. I felt so bad for him and made me wish that Raheem had shown Nadir how much he actually loved and cared for him. I wanted more than that little bit we got towards the end.

Sigrid is amazing. She is no damsel and has proved how strong she is time and again. Her love for Nadir and his for her really shown through despite the obstacles they faced. Regardless how they basically spent a year apart, proved just how strong their feelings are for each other. This book was breathtaking! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Oh! Raheem and Camille are the best. I was stunned to learn of Raheem’s wife too 🤯

The thrilling sequel to Emma Hamm's world of dragons features lots and lots of angst! And secrets and hidden societies and also has a jaw-dropping ending that will either make you howl (because of the cliffhanger) or wish for the Tardis in order to go into the future and get the next book!

Sigrid and Nadir both face their own natures both as humans and as dragons and they get their own personal growth. In a way, they become the two sides of the same coin as they balance each other, despite the rising tensions and the uncertain future. With the cast of both new and old characters, this sequel is a hidden gem filled with lush descriptions and wonderful storytelling!

Sigrid and Nadir evolved so much in this book, in ways both of them liked and needed to, and in ways that they didn't expect and weren't sure if it was for the best. They both went on journeys not knowing what the outcome of them would be. And always, they carried each other in their hearts, even when they didn't really want to.
Their kingdoms were at war again and nothing could stop it from happening. Nothing except Sigrid and Nadir having to take on mantles neither of them wanted to carry. And so they were left with the choice of themselves, their love, or their kingdom again.
The ending was my favorite part of this story. The revelations, the plots, the action, the romance all came to a head at the end and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough.
Can't wait to read the next book.

I am a very picky reader sadly and it's hard for me to find a book and just want to dive in and swim. I am blown away with the world that Emma Hamm was able to create. Its all so beautiful. The characters are fantastic , I love seeing the growth of every one . I have been looking for a hardcore fantastic fantasy world with romance and I got all of that and more. If I had to say anything negative about this book is maybe I wish there was some steamy bow chicka wow wow. Its rare that i read books without any in it but I am beyond captivated in the story the author has wove . Will for sure be reading more of her work.

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

"It seemed that she'd traded her freedom for yet another cage."

Once again Emma Hamm has blown me away with her writing and story telling. She creates a stunning landscape and beautiful journey that you can't help but get lost in. Dawn of Cobalt Shadows is the second book in her Burning Empire series and reading the first before this one is a MUST!

"I am thunder. I am lightning. I am death"

In this book we find both leading characters individually trying to find their purpose. Nadir travels to learn ways to become the best Sultan he can be for his people, in order to lead them to the peace between human and beastkin that he hopes to achieve. Sigrid travels far to lands known only in myths to describe her origin story and what she needs to do in order to reach the peace and freedom she craves. While Sigrid clings to her human attributes Nadir more and more embraces his inner dragon. They both travel down opposing paths but no matter what they are stronger together.

"He'd found something in her that called out to him. The wildness in her heart made his sing"

Dawn of Cobalt Shadows was full of secrets and mysteries, the main characters had to unravel. My heart hurt for their struggles, especially Nadir who by the end still seems so lost. Sigrid and Nadir's connection was strong and beautiful, and I am looking forward to seeing how they will bring each other balance in the future standing together instead of against one another. I loved getting to read Camilla and Raheem's point of views and getting to know their characters deeper.

"I followed her, because she is everything that is good in Nadir [...] She is more important to this story than others could ever imagine."

Emma Hamm delivered everything I wanted and more for the second book in the Burning Empire series. I can't recommend this series enough, its simply amazing, and a must read for fantasy readers.

"She'd searched her entire life for this man. A monster who would devour her, body and soul. The one who would choose to tear her apart, only to stitch her back together exactly as she was, because he wouldn't change a thing about her person."

Dawn of Cobalt

Full of battles, scheming characters, the truest of friends, and complex personalities, Dawn of Cobalt Shadows continues the story of Sigrid and Nadir as they each attempt to rule in the aftermath of a devastating war. Divided by prejudice, long burning hatred, and beset by power hungry advisors, each finds a singular aloneness in the title of Ruler.

I enjoyed the adventure of this story; the mysteries surrounding Beastkin legend and the flawed characters Sigrid and Nadir encounter on their journeys towards building peace are in turns heartwarming and saddening.

I look forward to continuing this journey with Sigrid and Nadir as I can only imagine the tale gets heavier before the end!

DAWN OF COBALT SHADOWS, the second in Emma Hamm's dragon-shifter "Burning Empire" series, finds Sigrid and Nadir separated in their respective kingdoms but with similar struggles. Sigrid is queen of the beastkin in name only and they do not heed her warnings to work with the humans. They seek blood and retribution instead. Nadir remains in the pit of vipers that is his government, working to improve the lives of his people and the beastkin in his kingdom. Overwhelmed, both protagonists venture on a journey to seek ancient wisdom and power while the world is on the brink of war.

I'll start my review by saying I enjoyed the first book, but had a lot of trouble getting into this one. I think this stems from two things: 1) I was never quite sure of the characters' motivations and how they intertwine with the heavy political undercurrent; 2) Sigrid's character lacked clarity. I'll focus on #2 because it pulls into #1. I couldn't get a good understanding of Sigrid's character. This may have been because she's supposedly changing/growing from book 1, but she lost her confidence and composure, making half the book a narrative of her inner conflict. She fought so hard to get her beastkin a kingdom and then leaves them. She battles through a difficult journey to find the ancients and then acts like a petulant child when she finds them. She speaks of kindness and respect to all but then essentially manhandles Eivor into a future she may not want. Sigrid's personality shifted depending on what the plot needed and I just couldn't connect with her. The story was weaker because of this.

However, this book was saved by two things: 1) the magical, vast, wonderfully described world and history that is Hamm's forte (this fantasy setting is seriously breathtaking and has a wonderful depth); 2) Nadir and his evolution. Book 2 is where Nadir gains the complexity he sorely needed and becomes the man we all wanted. His decisions are laced with an air of desperation, but his self sacrifice and internal conflict are wonderfully compelling

The wandering characters and plot of DAWN OF COBALT SHADOWS made the book "okay." I'm curious to see how the conflict unfolds in book 3 after the last ~30% of this one. I have high hopes that Sigrid's character becomes more concrete and the politics a little less confusing in the next installment.

Oh man. I’m so late writing this review. I’ve received this ARC weeks and weeks ago but didn’t have the time to read uninterrupted. And with Emma’s books, I need dedicated time because I could never put her books down. DoCS as a sequel to SoCS did not disappoint. As expected of a second book in the series, one should anticipate more background and history to be laid out and fleshing out of the characters’ motivations.  I liked that there was more development on Nadir’s part; he’s more fleshed out in my imagination and I feel I can see the complexity of his character and personality much better this time around. I’m still rooting for Sigrid. What can I say, she is no way perfect and although she is not as compellingly strong as in SoCS, I think Emma did well to show Sigrid’s humanity: just like a real person with her frailty and moments of self-doubt and inner turmoil. I doubt this is all we’re going to get with Sigrid, so I’m highly anticipating the next book of the series and see further maturity in the principal characters. And oh my gosh, Emma has such a talent painting with words. I’ve said it before and I will continue to say it over and over. It is no easy feat to be able to draw readers into the story with mere words. The way she describes the kingdoms, the emotions of the characters are simply beautiful. This particular world came alive for me. I will not rehash the storyline; plenty of readers much more fluent with their reviews have already posted. Yes, I will recommend this, along with all of her other books.
DoCS is a good read. All in all, I’m pretty happy and satisfied. Well done Emma and I can’t wait for the next one!

Okay so, Burning Empire book 2!
Overall another great book and better than the first in the series, in my opinion, the pages flew by for me because I just wanted to know where things were headed and it did not disappoint ending with a fantastic lead up to the ending cliff hanger that was just, wow! I'm ready for book 3!

Here is everything I enjoyed a lot:

The parallels between Sigrid and Nadir's lives were a great part of this story in my opinion and it shows you that though they are apart they are both still growing into who they are meant to be and that at heart they are really cut from the same cloth as is their destiny/fate/path in life, whatever you want to call it. and of course the slow burn romance of these two is still wonderful <3

You get chapters from Camilla and Raheem! Two very important people are given an even stronger voice in Sigrid and Nadir's story and I AM SO HERE FOR IT!

You are introduced to two very compelling new characters from two new groups of people and I just really enjoyed the differences seen there as well (World building, YAS!) ...I can't say too much without giving things away!

My blog: A MAGICAL WORLD OF WORDS

Source: Thank you so much to the author for sending me this book in exchange for an honest review. I voluntarily read & reviewed this copy. All thoughts are my own.

3.5 stars.

Emma Hamm's writing improves with every book she writes, and through lush, evocative language and rich sensory details, she draws you into a exotic and imaginative fantasy world. The dialogue is powerful. The world-building is steeped in rich Arabic culture. Every scene is vivid. Every scene matters. It's a story put together with finesse.
My only qualm with regards to the writing is the unnecessary melodrama that increases as the finale draws near. It's complete personal preference, but melodrama is a pet peeve of mine and I always notice it.

As is the case with most sequels, the plot is slower in this book. The only real physical action happens near the end (which in itself is utterly terrific and heart-pounding) and instead, the focus here is on the characters' development and their internal conflict. It's heavily introspective. And yet, at the same time, it's riveting. Slowness is not synonymous with boring, at least not in this case, because while there isn't a lot of action, Emma Hamm digs deep into her characters' fears, pasts, and vulnerabilities; through this, she not only fleshes her characters out, but she fleshes the story out, as well. It all plays a part in making the novel deep, layered, and human.

❝Her whole life, she'd been given a designation by other people. She was the daughter of the last dragon. She was the adopted child of an owl but never the same as the rest. She was matriarch, sultana, warrior, all the things she had been told to be."

Sigrid and Nadir have come a long way since Book 1. I love how conflicted, uncertain, and terrified they are in this novel, and how their issues from the first book have only escalated. For most of the story, they're struggling to find themselves and do what's right for their world. The stakes are high. They're both struggling to deal with the events of the previous book, and at the same time find out more about their pasts and how they fit into the grand scheme of things. It's all so thought-provoking and gradual, making for some top-notch character development and growth. Sigrid, in particular, goes through a lot of growth and uncertainty as she struggles with her identity and role in the world. I really appreciate how Hamm makes her characters struggle and bleed for what they want.

The romance isn't a big part of the story. I think this is a smart move, actually, because both protagonists have a whole lot to deal with on their own and forced romantic scenes would only distract from this. Both Sigrid and Nadir have societal and political issues to resolve. A romance would get in the way.
Instead, Sigrid's friendship with Camilla gets more page time. This works wonderfully. I really enjoyed seeing their female friendship develop, and how Camilla plays a bigger role in the overall story, too.

Nadir and Sigrid's prolonged separation makes for maximum impact when they finally do reunite. It's an incredible scene. They've both been through trials and growth on their own, and so when they meet again everything comes full circle. Not only is their reunion fiercely romantic, but it shows off their character development and how far they've both come, and it's powerful and heart-rendering.

Dawn of Cobalt Shadows is a gripping sequel pounding with character depth and development. The climatic action is epic, the romance is fierce. It's a riveting fantasy that takes to the skies.

I want to say thank you so very much to Emma Hamm for allowing me again to read another ARC!

Dawn of Cobalt Shadows is such a lush, complex meaty world. And there's so much more to get through in the sequel. It was like Seas of Crimson Silk was the beautiful stone, a little greeting to the world of Beastkin and you lifted it up to find Dawn of Cobalt Shadows was the giant hole into this world that you get to dive into feet first.

This one really took me a while to get through just because there is so much to absorb in this, I didn't want too skim or miss anything with Sigrid or Nadir. (plus I feel like it's the year of giant epic fantasy and I'm hoping I'm not nearing burn out)

Even apart both dealing with their respective kingdoms, both being challenged by those around them, the people they love and want to build up, Both human and Beastkin clawing for the respective revenge.
Sigrid having trouble accepting her Beastkin half, her human half, to find the balance between them, her position as Matriarch. Secretly disgusted at the others for acting more animal than human.
Nadir having trouble acknowledging the existence of the dragon within him. His advisers and people having issues accepting the Beastkin in their midst. Of having a Dragon for a king.

Both take a journey to find out who they truly are, mates, mirror images of each other.
Their bond is so touching even with the distance. I lurve them.

Secretly hoping the prophecy is rubbish, thanks for dropping that on us at the last minute! Damn you ancients, you meddling jerks!

* An advanced reading copy was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. *

Good God, what kind of madness is this?
It took me a few days to finish this book (the first one I devoured in a day) because there were so many things happening and changing that my mind (and heart) could barely keep up.

The perfect way to describe 'Dawn of Cobalt Shadows' ? Unpredictable.
I never knew what to expect. Things almost never happened the way I thought they would. And that was so refreshing . And damn confusing too.
But I appreciated the fact that I could not see how the book will play out. I still don't.

This series is not about romance. It's a fabulous magical story about conflict, corruption, prejudice, hope and freaking dragons! with some romance in it.

The romantic aspect makes the story better, but does not make the story.

So, if you've read the first book (and if you didn't, why are you here?) and are wondering now if the second one is any good, I'm here to tell you that it was damn good .

One of the things I liked most was the similarity between the personal journeys of Nadir and Sigrid.
They were so far apart, each of them growing into the people they were supposed to be, but facing similar people and conflicts.

Both of them are flawed and make bad choices and have doubts. Even though this was fantasy they were so real . I could practically feel their emotional struggles.

This series is so very different from what I usually read, in terms of characters, mentality and story. Because I'm one of the people that usually read books where the romance is the story, and that's it.

But with these books? I freaking loved them. What's not to love?
It has an a-mazing cover, a strong and fierce heroine, a hero that you'll both love and hate and dragons . That's more than good enough for me.

I was given this book as an arc for my honest review.

This was a great second installment to Emma Hamm’s series Burning Empires. I could not put this one down and am on pins and needles waiting for the third book. I want rehash the entire plot as I’m sure others already have but suffice it to say this is well worth the read and will have you longing for the lush forests and stinging sands of the desert.

Another nice read

It lacked much of the predictability that i saw in the first book which I totally am happy about. Nadir’s character shines more then Sigrid’s did once again for me. There’s just something about Sigrid that doesn’t draw me in as much as I’d like. I enjoyed it though and I recommend it.

The end for me

This book was full of angst and drama. Two separate quests with the same end goal, war, and confusion.
While the story was unique, it disappointed me and I won't be continuing this series.

DNF at 30%

I've been trying to trek through this since July and it genuinely saddens me that I'm having to DNF because I love the world this story is set in.

Unfortunately, because it's mainly political and the two MCs are living through separate stories, there was nothing that kept me wanting to read on. It was dry and slow and I can tell there COULD be good things later on but I just don't have the patience.

Maybe I'll try to revisit it in the future, so for now I'm holding off on rating it.

Nadir and Sigrid

This review was originally posted on Camryn DaytonaThis is the second book in the Burning Empire series, I've already reviewed the first book, Seas of Crimson Silk. There won't be any spoilers for this book, but there may be a few for the first book (it would be hard to write this review without any).

Honestly, this book was even better than the first, and that's a bar I didn't think it would be able to top.

The story is as engaging as all of Emma's books, continuing on with the tale of Sorcha and Nadir from where book one left off. Sorcha is in charge of leading the Beastkin (human/animal hybrids) and Nadir is ruling the people of Bymere. Although the two factions are openly opposed to one other, there isn't outright warfare at first, however there is a great deal of dissent in both kingdoms.

Both Sigrid and Nadir are forced away from their kingdoms to meet with other Beastkin. Sigrid faking her death and going to the mountains to find a group called The Ancients, and Nadir going to a lost city of assassins.

Both stories appear to start separately, however, as with much of Emma's books, they slowly weave their way back together and culminate in a final, epic battle.

Nadir and Sigrid are eventually reunited, of course (it wouldn't be a romance novel if they weren't!) and their relationship is brought to new heights (get it? Dragons fly?)
See before you the Gods of the Empire. The dawn comes and brings with it nothing more than cobalt shadows. Go home. Feel no fear in your heart, for you know what gods protect you now.

This book ties up many of the loose ends from the first book, however, it certainly doesn't tie up all of them. There will be more books set in this world, however, Emma has moved on and is currently writing another series (it has something to do with France and Gargoyles!)
After all, gods don't just disappear.

I received ARC but only after I placed my pre-order. Somehow I just wanted this book earlier :D

This is a second part of a three parts series and we get an textbook midpoint of a story. Maybe that is the reason why even though I loved the dynamical pacing in the first book, this felt much slower. That however does not mean there is no action or dynamics. Its just much more spaced out through the book.

We see Sigrid and Nadir in the period when both kingdoms are dealing with consequences of the first book finale. Both of them are now leaders with unstable position trying to to push trough their vision of peaceful society. Instead they both have to deal with reality and political opposition. I liked how their fates became entwined and similar when they both get engaged in a crazy looking plan to elope their role and to be able to leave for a self-discovering journey.

They both do so however in a different direction and even though a the end of the previous book I was more fond of Nadirs decision, through this book I became team Sigrid again. Thats a character development, guys!

This book is no fairy tale, so obviously, something had to go very wrong. Many people did not so clever choices (even unknowingly), Nadir and Sigrid included. I am really looking towards the conclusion in the next book (where is my pre-order button??). Also I am curious from more background information like the origins of Alquatara, Sigrids parents, the ancients story and prophecies...

The only thing bothered me a bit is how often characters moved from one place to another at apparently very high speed. I mean, it sometimes seemed as if the world is really small or as if they have a nearly teleport-like skills, so at some points it lowered the seriousness of the whole scene. However this may be just a matter of my taste and not an objective mistake.

I have to admit that this book fell into that second book syndrome where it moves slowly and tries to drag out everything and bridge us to the third book. It took a long time to get through this one because Dawn of Cobalt Shadows was a story of self-discovery and that means that Sigrid and Nadir both had to go on their own journeys to find out who they were. And that meant they had to do it alone. We met a lot of new faces in Dawn of Cobalt Shadows that helped piece together the story behind Nadir and Sigrid and create more questions. The story started to move more quickly once Sigrid and Nadir reunited and tried to decide what to do next.

I enjoyed seeing Camilla and Raheem's points of views. These two are some of my favorite characters along with Sigrid and Nadir. I also loved to see the growth and maturity of both Sigrid and Nadir. Sigrid realized that being a leader may not be the best thing for her especially if she didn't know herself and she wasn't wanted as such. She had to learn who she was before she could accept and embrace herself and her dragon. Nadir continued to grow from the boy king to something more in Dawn of Cobalt Shadows. He became more of a man and sultan than he'd ever been and tried to do the right thing. The advisors fought him at every turn and I was happy when he finally realized he really did not need them.

I cannot wait to see how this explosive and amazing series ends. I love a good dragon tale and Emma is giving us one with this series.

Definitely thought this was going to be duology but apparently we're getting a third??? And now I have to wait?? I feel like the story will just get even sadder when I just desperately want them both to be happy. And maybe not hold daggers at each others back.

Emma's writing is beautiful, perfect for fantasy and fairy tales. I had enjoyed the first two books of her Otherworld series and absolutely enjoyed a tale of dragons (a first for me and I'm wondering why I've waited so long to get on the backs of giant lizards). Another thing I ADORE is Nadir and the fact that he represents a Middle Eastern man, you don't read on that often especially in this context. The cultures were depicted beautifully. Sigrid is a force, I loved her savagry in the first book and I hope to see more of it in the second. Nadir is just wonderful and yummy, my romantic heart hopes for a nice ending for the both of them.

I think Hamm could do with another look over by her editor, I notice some mistakes in her books that leave small guesses as to what she meant but it's understandable that some things will get missed. Granted I liked reading the POV of the characters, I prefer the POV of Sigrid and Navir over the others.

Excited and dreading the third book, I don't know what to expect!

I don’t know how I feel about this book (spoilers)

I don’t know how I feel about this book. On the one hand, I liked seeing the characters develop and get together. On the other hand, the way this book ended made me think that this series will not end happily. Narid is losing himself, and the picture on the wall at the end of the story made it seem like in the future, he’ll lose himself entirely and go mad. The prophecy picture implied that Nadir would be the one to bring back the sickness of the Beastkin. I don’t know how he would do that, because as I understand it, it isn’t something that is contagious. I don’t want that to happen though.

I approve of what Nadir did to his advisers, and I think he should have done that in the first book. I don’t understand why he let his kingdom go as far as it did, but at the same time, I do. He needed to grow as a person before he could do that.

Personally, I have grown so frustrated with the kingdoms and the politics that I think Sigrid and Nadir should just leave them to their own devices and run away. But then I guess the books wouldn’t happen...

Help! I've fallen into a story and get out!!!

What can I say about the Burning Empire?! This story was like nothing I expected! Sigfrid and Nadir were heart breakingly tragic. They're lives are not what they wanted. Controlled by everyone around him since he was a boy Nadir is betrayed over and over again. He doesn't know who to trust, who is with him, who is against him and I struggled right alongside him through his whole story. I cried real tears at one heartbreak after another.
Sigfrid has always wanted to be free but everyone in her life has put her in one cage or another until the moment she finally breaks free. Or is she?
In book 2 of the Burning Empire Sigfrid and Nadir will have to face the betrayal of everyone they thought they could trust and find themselves before coming back to each other.
I could...not...read...fast...enough!!! I had to know how their story would end but ohhh no, book 2 is not the end!!!
Prepare yourself for an emotional tsunami as you make your way through this second book and prepare yourself to be dashed to the rocks below on this cliffhanger!

Really good second book. I am so glad Sigrid is not this whining person she was at the end of book 1 (at least for me haha).

This book is truly a middle book meaning : we have a lot of soul-searching, of past explanation ...

The ending was really great and unexpected - can't wait to see what Emma has in store for us in the last book =)

I LOVED IT! 💖
Sigrid and Nadir in this sequel was on a journey of self discovery and how the twos journeys entwined together! 💕
The characters confusion within themselves was written well because you get this sense of inner turmoil of what is right or wrong and what they truly want for themselves and for each other! 💗
And I LOVED seeing them as dragons!🐉 So YAY! 😃

Dawn of Cobalt Shadows is a wild and thrilling adventure that I quite loved. It's action packed and a bit twisty too. I definitely recommend it. That ending has me beyond excited to see what happens next.

I didn't think the story progressed really well in this one. It seemed to slow for 75% of the book and the the ending was really rushed. Also didn't really enjoy how the narrative was split between four characters, instead of just two. It just didn't flow very well.
