In the aftermath of the battle of New York, Nick Fury recruits a sentinel to be the new handler for the Avengers. Dominic Rossi doesn’t want the gig, but Tony Stark thinks he’d like it if Dom stuck around.

Another slash crossover, a really good one, though mainly featuring just the leads and a couple secondary OCs. DiNozzo ("Dom Rossi") has left NCIS well before it starts, so don't expect the rest of that cast. This starts with the Battle of New York (from a non-Avengers armed responders PoV), and afterward, Tony is still wary of the spyssassins and Rogers; only Banner and Fury really appear, either, though the contents of Sentinel!Dom's meetings with the others is discussed.
I like JARVIS, and the "Tony's bots/AIs are his kids" trope, and Dom's open delight in interacting with them all. I like the friendship-first romance with great banter and insightful moments (though the final scene is their consummation, so don't read it if you want to avoid M/M sexytimes). I like the Sentinel trope (my favorite crossover LBD). Oh, and I like the couple cute bits interacting with Hulk.
Since it's well-written, only the novella length and the threads that are not yet resolved (Tony's Guide latency, and the team-to-be issue) kept me from considering 5 stars — I'm star-stingy, I know.
I'm also glad the author found a reason that makes sense to have DiNozzo using a different name and thus let her avoid Tony/Tony. (NCIS canon retconned Senior's character toward likability because of Robert Wagner's appeal; this doesn't, though he's only mentioned, NOT a part of "Dom"'s life.)
Dom's analysis of the problems with each of the would-be Avengers being tossed straight into the field again as part of a SHIELD-run team makes very valid points (and I've always had that same negative opinion of the name "Avengers", myself).
N.b., this can stand alone, but Demons is its sequel. (JJ refers to Demons as the series title, IIRC, though it's unmarked.)
Oh, and Stick Around's URL won't work as shown: you need to remove the S from https. This is a change true for any JillyJames.com links. Somebody should tell a Goodreads Librarian. UPDATE 11/'22: The Ss are back! https://jillyjames.com/stick-around/
================ Actually read twice in early 2021, a month or so apart, only the second date recorded, when I realized I hadn't checked for Jilly James on Goodreads.
================ Seems like I can't resist this duology when I'm doing a fanfic reread, even though it's been less than a year.
