आर्यगाथा

वीरेन्द्र सारंग का यह उपन्यास ‘आर्यगाथा’ आर्य-अनार्य संघर्ष का एक यथार्थपरक विश्लेषण है। यह एक तरह से संस्कृति-गाथा है जिसमें आर्य और मूल निवासी अनार्यों की परम्पराओं और प्रतीकों को एक नए नजरिये से देखने की कोशिश साफ देखी जा सकती है। पारम्परिक रामकथा के जरिये कथा का विन्यास बुना गया है, लेकिन यह महज रामकथा नहीं है। यह देव-दानव, आर्य-अनार्य, राक्षस संस्कृति का एक विराट रूपक है जिसे वैज्ञानिक स्तर पर समझने की कोशिश की गई है। रामकथा के मिथकीय अंशों को छोडक़र यह बताया गया है कि कैसे आर्य संस्कृति और राम की विजय सम्भव हुई। आर्यों के पास शब्द-संस्कृति थी और अनार्यों के पास अपनी मानवीय परम्पराएँ और शिल्प कौशल। रावण अनार्यों को एकजुट करके रक्ष-संस्कृति की स्थापना करता है। आर्य उसकी विस्तारवादी नीति से भयभीत हैं और एक महानायक की तलाश कर रहे हैं। अगस्त्य इसके लिए अनार्य हनुमान को तैयार करते हैं और उधर विश्वामित्र राम को। अगस्त्य और विश्वामित्र के प्रयासों से अनार्य हनुमान और राम का मिलन सम्भव होता है। यह कथा रुझान को परखने, पाप-पुण्य, स्वर्ग-नरक, पिंडों की स्थापना जैसे—लिंग पिंड, कुबेर पिंड, देवी पिंड आदि की कथा है। यहाँ रूप-कुरूप पर नई बहस है तो पहचान-प्रतीक जैसे—पगड़ी, पूँछ, उत्तरीय, सींग, मुकुट पर खासा विमर्श भी। ‘राम नाम सत्य है’ की स्थापना और उसका प्रारम्भ तो आश्चर्यचकित करता है। शिव अनार्यों के इष्ट हैं, वे आयुधों के निर्माता हैं, लेकिन निर्लिप्त। आर्य-अनार्य, देव-दानव सभी उनसे आयुध लेते हैं। धीरे-धीरे आर्य-अनार्य मिश्रण के परिणामस्वरूप शिव सभी के उपास्य हो जाते हैं। यह दो संस्कृतियों की मिलन-गाथा है जो रावण के विनाश से एक आयाम ग्रहण करती है। यहाँ तथ्य हैं तो कल्पना का भी भरपूर प्रयोग किया गया है। कुल मिलाकर एक पठनीय और दिलचस्प उपन्यास है।

A Parody of the other great books

What if you took a great story and turned it upside down. We have seen this done multiple times in the Scary Movies. Consider this book a similar version of the Ramayan. The story was taken or based on the critically aclaimed Ram-Katha by the legendary Narendra Kohli.
If the parody was the only bad thing about this book, but alas it is not so. There are tons of other bad things in this book.

1. There is hardly any flow in the prose. Every paragraphs jumps from third person to first person narrative constantly within a single line. It would be a nightmare for an non-hindi speaking person to go through the text. The dialogues are worse than the pulp fiction category. How the editing team has let this book published is a big question.

2. The good guys are all scheming and plotting individuals. The bad guys are valorous, mighty and chivalrous. The treatment of the characters is so laughingly bad that you will be hard pressed to to not throw away the book. Consider this Sage August is a manipulative pale skinned Arya, hell bent on placing the Pale skinned Arya population over the Dark Skinned Dravids led by Ravana. August and Vishwamitra are portrayed like Dumbledore in the Harry Potter fan-fictions. If that was not enough the entire Rishi-community was vilified as pushing the Aryan Agenda through lies, deceits and falsehoods. The Author has completely disregarded even the History as published or accepted by leading Historians and is content to play his own flute.

3. It is written on the back cover that the Author has won some prestigious award from the Uttar Pradesh Government on Literature and one is left to wonder if it was not politically motivated. The best part about the book was the description on the back cover.

I bought a copy which was covered in plastic sheet, so was able to read only the back-cover and now I rue my decision.
If lower than one star would have been available I woulld have awarded it.
A complete waste of time and money. Stay away.
