**'No story is a straight line.If you as a good writer can tell a story, create characters, devise incidents and have sincerity & passion, then it doesn't matter a dawn how you write...'

'PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT' is an impassioned, conversational, probing, fiercely inconclusive beginning series with a dialogue that was every bit provocative, misogynistic at times and even entertaining from start to finish. The storyline do also paints a disquieting portrait of the law, many circles of lawyering and statutes relating to the telltale process of a lawsuit.
Carsen Taite has great insight about the experience of lawyers, legal professionals and all things legislative because of her background knowledge with the many different legal terms and statements mentioned throughout this series. She's also an extraordinary writer and demonstrates her prose mastery with her summations of the complex lawsuits presented. Her passion for writing these legal series is infectious -- and it always resonates on every page.
The two protagonists in this series are so different as readers will come to realize:- Campbell does stand out from her two best friends also law partners. She is not idealistic when it pertains to any of their clients. She is bright, loving, passionate about her job and is very close with her siblings.
As for Wynne, who is considered to be a workaholic, do not have a good relationship with her parents and only has one goal in mind -- to become a partner at the law firm that she has being working at for the past five years. When she meets Campbell it's the last thing that she needs because of her (Campbell) adorable spirit and charming personality that she was afraid will lure her into trouble (reveal her true feelings).
They were both chosen to work together in defending a company -- a company that both were vying to become their sole legal representative. While interacting, business is mixed with some steamy pleasure where they discover in each other their happy yearning and good lovers but the end result will see someone getting their heart broken.

In it's predictable windup, things did calm down and readers did see the stars align for everyone. A highly recommended first series!

3.25 Stars. I thought this was an okay read. My expectations might have been a little high. I’m a huge Taite fan. I think this is the 20th book I have read by her and I can’t say that about many authors. In my opinion no other author can write legal/law books like Taite does. She knows her stuff and it absolutely impresses me. This book however was really light on the law aspects and more about friendships and possible relationships. I really missed that legal/crime aspect that makes her books so fascinating.

This is the first book in a series about three best friends that start their own law firm together. Think Brayden’s SoHo series but for lawyers. I’m actually excited about the series premise as I like series that are about best friends and there is actually not many out there in the world of lesfic. This story focuses on Campbell, who finds herself attracted to an attorney she is competing against. Can they keep it professional or will their hearts get in the way?

One of my issues is I felt this book was too short. Taite is setting up this premise for a series and I felt like in order to set everything up, time was taken away from the main romance. And because of this it felt really rushed to me. Only a few working dates, I think one sex scene, and that was it. If these books are supposed to be lighter and more romance based, I need the romance to be stronger. I actually found myself looking forward to the smaller lawyer/law parts more than the romance, and I don’t think that’s what Taite had in mind when she came up with the premise of this series.

I do have higher hopes for the next two books in the series. Both best friends seem likeable and I’m hopeful that now that the firm is set up, Taite can really work on building a strong romance for these other characters. Taite is a fantastic author so I have faith that she will pull this series off.

This story wasn’t what I was hoping for but it was decent. I think people that are not into law or crime books as much, might like this more. Taite is on my automatic to read list so I’ll keep my fingers crossed for book 2.

An ARC was given to me for a honest review.

A breezy legal romance.

Campbell has had enough of working for her jerk boss. At a reunion, she proposes that her law school besties join her in venturing off on their own to create their own law practice. They need to drum up new business and through the help of Campbell's brother's inside connections, they get the opportunity to try and snag the hot social media mogul, Braxton. He is not happy with his current representation. Who just happens to be a beautiful old law school classmate, Wynne. The two compete to win but how can you truly compete when there is so much attraction simmering.

This was a light and quick read. Not tons of angst. It was an extremely slow burn romance. The characters were cute. I especially liked Wynne.

Though I really enjoyed reading the story, I have to say that I couldn't quite get behind their feelings for each other. They mostly annoyed one another and bickered. But there was attraction, for sure.

I do recommend this to people who like romance, main characters who initially don't get along, law, social media, family, and donuts.

Carsen Taite is one of my go-to authors. If she writes I’m going to read it and read at that exact moment I will. I know when I pick up one of her books I am going to get a top-notch story. Her newest book Practice Makes Perfect we begin a new series focused around an Austin based law firm owned three besties, Campbell, Grace, and Abby. I knew within the first couple of chapters of Practice Makes Perfect that Taite had written something truly special. I was dazzled!

I am a romance junkie. I love a good medical drama, legal drama, insert trope here, but what truly makes my heart sing for joy is the relationship between the two leading ladies. I want, I need the romance to be the standout. Catch the bad guy, save the life, win the gold, sure, but let’s get back to the love story. Taite in this one brings the romance front and center, and damn it’s good!

Campbell Clark is spontaneous. This character trait serves her well at times. Her spontaneity convinces her overworked besties to quit their well-paying jobs at large established law firms to venture out on their own and open a boutique law firm. This is Campbell’s big idea and now she has to land the client’s to keep her best friends bank accounts in the green and their dream viable.

Wynne Garrity knows all about being over-worked. She is on track to being a partner at her Austin based law firm. She just has to keep killing herself to get there. Her boss is a maniacal jerk, she has zero social life and spends all of her time surrounded in paperwork. It will all be worth it, right?

Wynne and Campbell know each other from law school, Campbell popular and charismatic, Wynne hyper-focused and solitary. There two come back into each other’s life when both of their law firms are trying to woo a Facebook-like company’s account. These two are pitted against each other for the business until the proprietor decides to throw them together to work on a lawsuit. They have to work on this case all the while being the competitor. Not to mention, and this is big, they are wildly attracted to each other. Let the sparks fly!

This book has two fantastic leads, an attention-grabbing plot and that sizzling chemistry that great authors can make jump off the page. While all of Taite’s books are fantastic, this one is on that next level. This is a damn good book and I cannot wait to see what is next in this series. 4.75 stars

“Practice Makes Perfect” is almost a perfect cutesy enemies-to-lovers, slow burn romance. It’s the first in the ‘Legal Affairs’ series.

Campbell is a lawyer who has decided to open up her own law firm with her two best friends rather than continue working as an associate where she has no life outside her billable hours. Wynne is an attorney with a large firm who will become Campbell’s rival for a big tech/social media company.

This is the second book I’ve read from Carsen Taite and I really enjoyed it for the most part. I really liked both characters and I enjoyed their chemistry. I felt everything was moving at a really good pace until suddenly the book ended? It had just gotten to the good part! Surely there could’ve been a few more chapters. It was so short that I’m not sure I fully believe in them yet? Clearly, they were attracted to one another but I wasn’t really convinced it went much deeper than that, honestly. It’s such a shame it was so short because I was loving everything about it up to that point.

I think people who really don’t mind ‘happy for now’ endings will enjoy the ending to this far more than I did. I’m still looking forward to the next two books, I just hope those stories are more satisfying for me than this was.

Another well-paced, nice ‘n easy legal romance from Taite. Campbell Clark and her two friends from law school, Abby and Grace, quit their big firm jobs to start up their own law firm. In looking for clients, Campbell gets a lead on a tech entrepreneur, Braxton, who is looking for a change in representation. The stuffy corporation he has on retainer doesn’t seem to understand his company. Wynne Garrity’s boss is the main culprit who is just not getting what Braxton wants. Braxton gets both firms to present their best defence for the current law suit and instead of choosing one he decides they should work together on the case and he’ll decide afterwards. Wynne and Campbell are thrown together, but can they work together.

This is a good start for what seems to be a new series but there is nothing unexpected or unpleasant in it. Campbell and Wynne are likeable, smart women and I’m hoping to see more of Grace and Abby in future instalments. The receptionist issues, and then the one they settle on, are an entertaining addition.

I was thrilled to read Carsen Taite's latest legal romance, "Practice Makes Perfect," which is the first installment of her brand new "Legal Affairs" romance series. Book 1 started off with the introduction of three besties since their law school years, Campbell, Grace and Abby, all 5th year associates currently slogging their way to make partner in bog-standard big law firms they were "enslaved" in! Taite's first MC for Book 1 was obviously Campbell, the "leader" of the trio, so to speak. A maverick, slick, always thinking outside the box coming up with big ideas, Campbell was 1/3 of the popular trio nicknamed "Charlie's Angels" back in law school with the other two "Angels" being Grace and Abby, obvs. The trio was not only popular but were part of the "in-crowd" and all that whilst at school, you get the idea. After pitching her "Big Idea" to her besties - opening their own law firm with equal partnership - Campbell set out to land a potential big deal for their firm....but with a caveat....obviously!

Full commentary here... In Bugs' Own Words

I was given, with much thanks and appreciation, an ARC of this book from BSB via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

This is much lighter than Carsen Taite’s usual stories. As a former law student (in another life), one of the reasons I enjoy her books so much is all the legal stuff. Yet she’s also really good at romance, and romance is all this book is about. Sure there are lawyers and a case, but they’re mostly background for the relationship between Campbell and Wynne.

After five years of working for big law firms hoping to make partners and having no life outside of work, best friends Campbell, Grace and Abby decide to leave their jobs and create their own law firm. On the same night, due to a carpet incident, Campbell literally falls into the arms of a beautiful woman, Wynne, whom she vaguely remembers from law school. When a client makes them work on a case together, Campbell finds out that the mousy student she’s known has turned not only into a beautiful and sexy woman but also a very smart one.

It’s a romance so of course they fall in love, despite the fact that each is supposed to be fighting to get the client to choose her firm in the end. Yet from the start they don’t really manage to see the other as the enemy. It’s obvious they try, but what’s meant to be will be (it wouldn’t be a romance otherwise).

It reminded me a bit of Melissa Brayden’s Kiss the Girl, what with the best friends founding their own company together, each bringing her own strengths, and one of them falling for the competition. But the writing is very different, and so are the characters, so it didn’t feel like I’d already read that particular story.

This is the first book in a new series, and I’m already looking forward to the next one.

I am a big fan of Carsen Taite, however I don't think that this will end up being one of my favorites that she's written.

The characters weren't an issue. I really liked all of them and am looking forward to reading the other two books eventually. The mains were both enjoyable and there was chemistry but it didn't seem like we got to see enough of it. They squabbled a lot and then it seemed like they turned friendly quickly.

I knew this wouldn't be quite as intricate or intense as some of her other political romances, but I felt like there needed to be a little more substance. This was an ok read and I"m hoping that I enjoy the other books a little more than this one.

Legally lesbian.

This is book 1 of 'Legal affairs', the new series by Carsen Taite which follows a group of three friends, Campbell, Abby, and Grace, partners in a boutique law firm in Austin. Ms. Taite is well known for her legal thrillers and books in which law issues are at the forefront but, according to the author, this series will be light on the legal side. 'Practice makes perfect' focuses on Campbell's story.

Campbell Clark is an accomplished lawyer on her way to making partner in a big law firm. As she is tired of working for others, she decides to be her own boss and open her own firm with two besties from law school, Abby and Grace. Their chance to land a big client appears in the shape of a billion-worth internet startup facing a crucial demand. In order to win the client over she'll have to compete with Wynne Garrity, associate lawyer of a big law firm. Wynne seems uptight and all work and no play, but as they get to know each other, their romantic involvement could threaten all that they have been fighting for. Will they still take a chance on love?

This series' concept reminds me of Melissa Brayden's 'Soho loft' series in which friendship and business merge in a boutique advertising agency. 'Practice makes perfect' is similar to 'Kiss the girl', the first book of the Soho Loft, in which the love interests also have to compete with each other to win an important client. However, the similarities stop there as Ms. Taite manages to create a world in which the city of Austin, yummy donuts and impulsive online purchases play a big part.

This is possibly the funniest of Taite's books with good use of banter and witty dialogues. The main characters are well portrayed and even though the romance is very slow-burn, it's realistic and angst-free. The chemistry is sizzling and the intimate scenes are well written. I would have liked Ms. Taite to spend more time in depicting the other two friends personalities better and to see them interacting more but I'm sure their friendship is going to be explored further in the next couple of books. Can't wait to see where Ms. Taite takes Abby and Grace.

Overall, a very good start of a series full of fun, romance, and donuts. 4 stars.

I like Carsen Taite's law-themed books as she adds a lot of depth to the novels from her professional experience. This book features an intriguing court case but really, the main draw card here are the two mains. Although I thought the romance happened a tad too quickly from 'we can't' to 'let's go', both characters were so likeable I couldn't help but root for them both.

I've noticed that the ending in Taite's novels are quite abrupt, and this is definitely one of them. Hopefully we'll see more of Wynn and Campbell's HEA in book two of the series.

I listened to the audiobook, and thought Paige McKinney did a great job at narrating. Her pacing was brilliant.

It's hard to give a rating to this book without seeing where Taite takes this series, because this story feels a little incomplete. The characters are interesting and likable, and I hope they have significant roles in future books in the series.

I always look forward to a new book release from Carsen Taite and I wasn't disappointed with Practice Makes Perfect.

Everyone loves having the so called nerd from college/school and popular girl come together. I thought Taite did this well, building up the respect and chemistry between the two. The dramas around the competition and complication of their feels really added to the story. I struggled to put the book down and am really looking forward to more books in this series!

What a fun and humorous read. Atypical from Carsen Taite which in my opinion showcases her talent as a story teller. We still get the law/crime but not as prevalent as her other reads. Campbell Clark, makes a professional decision to encourage her law school friends to join her and open their own law firm. The answer is yes, count us in. Campbell can be a bit spontaneous and unpredictable. Wynne Garrity, is on track to being a partner but at what cost. Wynne can be a little too focused with her "nose to the grind stone". Campbell and Wynne have a past to some extent and must work together to help a client as well as make an impression for their respective firms. They disagree, miscommunicate, and challenge each other. Interesting storyline as Taite introduces the reader to the main characters that will be a part of the series. Look forward to the next read in the series.

This book gave me major Melissa Brayden vibes with the Soho loft series. And that series is my all time favourite. So when I read about competitors falling for each other ? Count me in. This was a pretty easy book to read. But I guess the book didn't do much justice to the relationship of the leads as it had to set the scene for the next books. I was hoping for a wee bit more relationship drama but the ending was a bit abrupt. But I did love the characters. Campbell is absolutely adorable and I was crushing on her by the end of the book. And off late I've been fascinated by lawyers, so more points. So now onto the second book....

I won't bore you with another summary of the book which you can get from the synopsis... so I'll just get right into it....

I enjoyed this one. Taite is one of my favorite author's and I will never miss reading a book that she comes out with. Taite's books are more known for the legal/law aspect of them, which for me, as a reader, I find very intriguing. While this story has a law aspect to it, it doesn't have the action that her other books have had tied into the romance of it all. This is a well written story. It's a funny, intriguing, light read. Overall it was a really good book. Just for me and what I'm used to from Taite, I'd like a little more action. I do look forward to the next two books in the series!!!

This was an easy one to get into and I enjoyed it. It’s a contemporary romance rather than a romantic suspense like most of Taite’s other books. My only complaint is that the pacing felt a little off for the romance, since there’s a “we can’t do this” conversation that is overturned minutes later, when they make plans to go on a date. I don’t really understand how the leap happened, especially for Wynne. It jarred me out of the story and if that conversation hadn’t happened, or if more space happened between that and their date so there was more time for their attraction to build and spill over, it would have made their relationship development more seamless.

Maybe my own expectations killed this for me. I'm a lawyer and a lesbian, so, usually reading Carsen Taite it's a treat for me, but I finished this like 5 hours ago and I'm not sure how I feel. The book felt rushed(?), incomplete? I was just begining to get into the relationship and the legal problems and bam! THE END.

It was good, just short... and the ending felt weird.

As with many books that begin a series with a group of friends where each friend will be the main protagonist in one of the books, there is some prep work to do. And this book preps the reader for the friendship of Campbell, Abby and Grace and sets the scene of their new legal firm.

This book is a very slow burn, but when it hits the accelerator, the romance is off and in fine form. I loved Campbell and can't wait to get more of her in the other books in the series. The romance between Campbell and Wynne is fraught with heaps of reasons they shouldn't be together from assumptions from when they attended the same college to working to win over the same client for their respective firms. But when they do finally make a move it was worth the wait. And I was crushing hard on Campbell by the end, swoon.

Watching Wynne lower her guard made for good reading and she was the one holding back the most so when she finally let's go, it was almost triumphant.

Also, how sexy are those legs on the cover?

Carsen Taite is one of my favourite authors so I was really looking forward to reading this book. I love the whole idea of the three friends branching out and starting their own firm. I even liked how Wynne and Campbell bump into each other before they had to work against each other but together...

There was something amiss though. I loved the characters and I can't wait to get to know Abby and Grace, also to hear more about Wynne and Campbell. Oh, and Perry... I HOPE Perry is in the next books too.

Anyway... even though I wanted to really really like this book, it was just... missing something. But in saying that, I'll buy the next Taite book yesterday 'cause you can't go wrong with Taite's books.

Campbell Clark’s life was alright but the idea of slowly working her way up to a partnership in the law office where she’s worked right after she graduated from the University of Texas School, wasn’t what she wanted to do. When she attended UT her best friends were Abby Keane and Grace Maldonado and five years later they are still best friends even though Abby and Grace both moved from Austin. Now they were together again attending their class reunion, so it was the perfect time to ask her good friends to leave their jobs and go in with her to start their own law firm.
Wynne Garrity also attended UT but she never really had anything to do with the three close friends. She came from a family of gifters, her parents going from one get rich scheme to another. She got a job in the local law offices of Worth, Ingram, Nash and Reed where after five years she felt she was coming closer to her dream of making her way to a partnership.
Now both Campbell and Wynne find themselves competing for the same client. To make it even more stressful the client, Braxton Keith couldn't make up his mind on who would do the better job of representing his company so he decides to have Campbell and Wynne work together, then he would choose the law firm that would look after all legal issues re his company. Wynne needs to make sure her firm gets the job if she wants that partnership, while Campbell needs a big name client like Brax to help get there law firm up and running.
Ms Taite has done it again, giving us a thoroughly enjoyable read. Now we have to wait for the next book in this series to see who will be next in line to fall in love, Abby or Grace. Can’t wait. Very, very enjoyable read.

Campbell is tire of working for a boss who a jerk so when a reunion comes around she convince her two best friends Abby and Grace from law school to quit their jobs and start a law firm with her.

Wynne works at a law firm where her boss is a jerk and thinks his way is best.

Campbell and Wynne both went to the same law school but they never really interact with each other but they did notice each other.

When a client from Wynne law firm doesn't think they aren't doing what he thinks he want he decide to go to another firm and he choose to take a chance with Campbell firm.

Braxton decide to have both firm present to him and his board members who is better at winning a his case as him and the other board members like both presentation Braxton wants Campbell and Wynne to work together.

Campbell and Wynne wants to win but will they let their attraction distract them from their goals.

I like the friendship between Campbell Abby and Grace and how each courage each other strength.

Wynne and Seth friendship was great too.

I like how close Campbell are with her siblings after her parents dies.

Wynne with her family was hard especially with the father.

This was a great legal romance and I like how you got to see how you prepare for a case.

Great characters and sizzling chemistry.

3.75* This book is cute. Is that the right word? Not sure. But book 1 of the Legal Affairs series features a cute romance. The romance between Campbell and Wynne is adorable. It's an attraction at first sight but they found out that they're trying to land this big tech company as a client. Campbell's new fledgling law firm against Wynne's employer, a traditional law firm. The legal aspect is very minimal in this book. It's more focused on relationships: the friendship among Campbell, Abby, and Grace and the romance developing between Wynne and Campbell. Campbell and Wynne are likable enough. I did wish that we get more of Wynne's relationship with her family. We were given a glimpse into her parents and upbringing, but more details would have been welcome.

This is Book 1 of a new Series by this author. This one is about Wynne and Campbell. Wynne took me a few chapters to like and Campbell is a sweetheart. The story line was great, the pace was just about right. I also enjoyed the character development. There is always one character that you would like to punch (not that I am a violent person), which, in this case would be Wynne's Boss.

I look forward to reading more of the series in the future. Highly recommend.

Three lawyers meet up at their 5 year law school class reunion. Each are successful but burned out from working at large law firms. They decide to try to start their own firm. They get to pitch to a new client who is a tech billionaire wanting representation from someone who understands his product. The result is the client wants the new and old firm to work on a current case to determine who will get his account. Campbell represents the new and Wynne also from the same graduating class represents the old firm.

I've learned the author is a lawyer and the legal aspects seemed realistic. The book was fairly short and a time was spent setting up the book as a start of a new series. The romance was okay but I would have liked to see it develop. Oddly the conclusion of the legal case was implied but not actually resolved. An okay read but hoping for better in others of the series.

**I don't remember putting this as a hold on my library card but it popped up and I couldn't resist re-reading. And I'm compulsive enough I'll have to re-read the series now too. I've read a lot more of Taite since reading this book and while my review is the same in hind-sight I really enjoyed these lighter legal romances from the author. I liked being back with this group of characters.

Taite is starting a new series with this one - the common theme being the trials and romantic tribulations of three young, hot, overachieving and single lawyers who have set up their own firm. For some reason, this reminds me a bit of Brayden's SOHO romance trilogy . This was a light and easy read but didn't hit the same mark as some of Taite's earlier books.

As the first in the series, the premise has to be set up and characters/circumstances introduced and the first lonely lesbian (Campbell) then has the remainder of the book to meet/argue with/fall in love with her designated love interest Wynne. It's a lot to do and I just got the feeling it was rushed a bit. I didn't get a great feel for Campbell and I actually kind of liked Wynne better. There wasn't a lot of legal wrangling in this book, which is one of the things Taite usually excels at, and I didn't feel that there was enough of a build up of the relationship or chemistry between Campbell and Wynne.

I enjoyed it while I was reading it but it seemed to gloss over and speed through things - if it had been a bit longer or more focused on the romance or even the legal stuff, it may have jumped closer to a four star rating.

3 stars. This book dragged a little. Campbell Clark and her two best friends, Abby and Grace meet up at a law school reunion and decide to break out on their own instead of working their life away for stuffy law firms . Campbell Clark just has to get a big client to pay for their law firm. Campbell's brother gives them an opportunity to get a big social media app, Leaderboard and its founder, Braxton Keith. Campbell only has to prove she is not as stuffy as their current law firm, Worth Ingram. She gets stuck working together with a lawyer from their firm, Wynne Garrity. Campbell is instantly attracted to Wynne and has to ignore her attraction if she wants to beat her and win Leaderboard's business.

I enjoyed this book but the beginning dragged a little. There was a lot of set up to get to the plot. This is the first book in a series of three, so that makes sense.. I enjoyed the interactions between Wynne and Campbell, as there was a lot of tension and it grew as the novel went on. My one complaint is the tension seemed to just end, as the book went on. I also did not like the ending of this novel, it just ended without a great ending. I flipped to the next page expecting more of the novel. This book was okay. although I will probably read the next one in the series.
