First off the characters. Ani was a fantastic edition to the book. She was morally grey and I loved it. Kai is one of my favorite characters and getting more background on him was just what I wanted even though it was heartbreaking. And at the end of this book I am more than a little worried for him. Jace. Man. Does he have it rough! The poor guy is all over the pace with his emotions. It really breaks your heart to see.
The ending though. Wow. That was intense in the best way possible. But now I am left with a few questions and I am dying to get to the next book!
The Hunt was sooo good!! It had this underlying feeling of urgency to it, and at times made me want to hit the book because the characters weren't *doing* anything. Because of that, it was a little slow at times, but I still really enjoyed it and hurriedly started the third book because I NEEDED to know what happens next. XD
It broke my heart seeing everything Iris was going through, and how broken and affected Jace was. I liked the new character Ani, and while she's not my favorite, I hope we get to see more of her in The Harrowing! And Mr. Demonas is just hilarious in his own bookish way. I loved them all!
A brilliant second installment to this trilogy! I loooved the introduction of Ani, she really rounded the storyline. I was so hooked especially in the last few chapters!! Super excited for book 3.
Um, wow! Benson really knows how to write a story that will have you invested and tug at your heartstrings! First of all, that prologue sets the mood for the story and has you on the edge from the beginning! This book does move a little slower as Jace and Kai are searching for Iris and researching their next moves. But I enjoyed seeing them journey to different places. I also loved the introduction of Ani. She is such a morally grey siren, but she still has a heart hidden in there somewhere. It was interesting how the author added Ani to the story, but then also strengthened the original love story by the end. It's so hard to explain without spoilers, but Benson may be the first author to make me not hate love triangles. She writes them so expertly well! And poor Jace in this one! To watch him battle his emotions alongside Iris' siren song was a bit heartbreaking, but so interesting to the overall love story and storyline. And oh my, at about the 90% mark, the action picks up, and it gets intense. There is another heartbreaking ending that has me reaching quickly for the final book in the series. This is a solid second book in an incredible series!
*I received and ARC of this book for my honest opinion.*
After I enjoyed the first book in the saga, I wasn't sure what to expect from the second when I read the BLURB. The tone of this second book is pretty different to the first in my opinion, and I found that it dragged a bit for my liking.
I'm a fast-paced book person, and whenever things don't go fast enough, I find myself drifting away from the story, and I think that's what happened this time. I couldn't keep my focus and read a chapter here and there.
There's a lot of studying, researching, and info on this second book, and being that I'm not too much into mithology, I became lost. If you like the slow developing of relationship, mental struggles, and cool facts about mithology, then this book will be your cup of tea! :)
I'm looking forward to read the resolution of all the drama in the third and last book!
This installation isn't as good as the first book as there isn't much action only until the end. Being someone who is used to fast-paced stories with little rest for the characters involved, this was slightly hard to swallow as I kept wondering when the characters will actually do something other than researching and reading, or moping around (in Jace's case).
The introduction of Ani was a breather as she is a badass girl who actually has a goal in mind and still sticks to it whenever she faces an obstacle. I'm glad she's there to support Jace after learning about him loving and losing Iris.
Don't let my 3 star rating stop you from continuing this series because although there are aspects of the book that really bore me, I did like the slow-building friendships between Jace, Ani and Kai as they work to trust and protect each other.
This is book 2 in the Call of the Sirens Series. This book was solely about recovering Iris from the Clan that took her hostage. Jace and Kai meet Ani who helps them research and hunt for where the clan and Damion have Iris. The trio,(Kai. Jace and Ani) search all over the United states trying to figure out the best way to find Iris and keep her alive.
I loved the introduction of Ani into the story and hope we see omre of her in Part 3. At times the story was bit slow for me. The research seemed to drag on without finding any conclusion or answers. Jace broke my heart again.......He missed Iris so much and felt responsible for her situation. Kai is still one of my favorite characters. I loves hearing about some of his background and look forward to more of him in book 3. Overall, I enjoyed the story and I can't wait to see where book 3 will take me. I give this book 4 stars.
2.5 I was really excited going into this book because the ending of The Harvest got me, however I feel this book was not action packed enough for me and it just felt like the entire book was about Jace & Ani getting to know each other, and by the end of the boo I was beginning to really feel for Jace, and possibly how unlucky he is. I completely missed Iris in this book though, and I felt Ani was an okay substitute but Iris is my BAE. I was so happy to hear more about Kai and his life which was refreshing, and the ending to this book actually has me wanting to read the final book in the series, I just hope there's more action and more Iris!
This unfortunately was a very slow book. The first book of this series was pretty good, but I felt like this book was a filler. Nothing really happens until maybe 80% into the book, which was disappointing. Most of this book was just about Jace, Kai, and Ani doing research on where Damion's clan could have gone. I had a hard time reading this book because of how slow it was. Crazy ending though! The final 20% of the book saved it!
Fantastic sequel! Jace and Kai have been trying to locate Iris and her clan to save her. A new found ally comes to assist with their search. Jace deals with PTSD from the massacre and longing, I guess heartbreak, for Iris telling him to run and he only wants to save her. The author does an amazing job with how different people cope differently after a traumatic event. I really enjoyed the read and I'm looking forward to the last book. The ending in this book...why?! Lol.
This second installment in the series did not disappoint in the emotional struggle department. Secrets and misdirection plague the characters on their search for answers.
Well-developed characters. Detailed world building. Intriguing storyline.
"It's not an easy thing to do, falling out of love when you're so totally still in love."
I am so entrenched in this series! I am getting ready to start the third book in the series and I can't wait to see what happens. Such a great book and series.
