Lexi Graves Mysteries #13

In the Line of Ire

Rate this book
When Private Investigator Lexi Graves receives an expensive bag from her new husband, she’s delighted… for all of five seconds. That’s exactly how long it takes her to realize it’s a fake. Then another fake bag turns up, along with an outraged mall manager that is desperate to find the culprit before the mall’s impeccable reputation for selling quality goods is tarnished. When the initial investigation takes a murderous turn, Lexi knows she has no time to lose. Going undercover would be easy if Lexi could convince anyone to talk. Then the FBI and Solomon Detective Agency collaborate to track down the culprits, and Lexi is further tasked with exposing the master mind behind the recent flood of fake goods. The counterfeiters, however, are smart enough to cover their tracks and the suspects are all seemingly innocent. Yet, one of them is a murderer… and ready to strike again.

Camilla always delivers! This is the 13th book in this series and it is as good as the first book. This one is about counterfeiters of high-end hand bags. Definitely something Lexi knows about. In addition there is a murder and a haunting. The whole gang is back and the story is fast, exciting and the laughter doesn't stop.

This is a fun and entertaining story that opens with Lexi receiving a gift from her new husband of a very expensive purse.....except it's counterfeit. Before long, Lexi and the gang are in the midst of a full investigation and Lexi is surrounded by purses, trying to tell the real ones from the fakes, even while she also tries to help a young family being harassed in their own home.

I found myself engaged by the story lines and turning pages quickly to see what happened next, even while literally laughing out loud at some of the humor. This novel is a great blend of a well told mystery blended with humor and a bit of romance. While this book is part of a series, this is a stand alone novel, however, the series is so good that you really owe to yourself to read them all. The author is on my must read authors' list.

Another great installment. Sometimes series books will become tired and repetitive but Camilla Chafer has managed to write characters you want to keep reading. She has continued to show growth in not just Lexi but her other characters as well, which leaves the reader wanting to know what happens next in their lives. I loved the growth Lexi showed in overcoming a past event.
In this book Lexi works 2 cases, one helping a single mom find out who is breaking into her home, and another working undercover to stop a counterfeit ring. Once again Ms. Chafer managed to keep me guessing. There was a good amount of humor as well. I loved what her mom brought to the story this time. I can't wait for the next book.
*I did receive this book at no cost to review. This is my open and honest review.

In this new book Lexi and Solomon are newlyweds and trying to start a new life.
Being the loving husband Solomon gives Lexi the designer purse she loves only to find out it's a fake. Deciding to go undercover along with a few others they are looking to find the mastermind behind it all.
I couldn't put this book down and am always a bit sad when I come to the end and know I should have slowed down but didn't. I have yet to find a book in the series that I'm not a fan of.

The sign of a great story is when you don’t want it to end. Camilla Chafer’s latest installment in the Lexi Graves series is just that. I love that she incorporates a main mystery and secondary mystery for us in the same book. She infuses humor in the form of family and friends as well as romance with John Solomon and personal struggles that continue as a result of a traumatic event from a couple of books back.
For this story, Lexi is once again undercover to help solve a counterfeit purse ring. It seems harmless enough until a murder victim is discovered by our heroine. Add a stalking victim as a second case, and a Purple Monster to track down for personal reasons. The result is another great installment you’ll not want to end. I am already excited to read the next one.

Another good story in this series.
I would strongly recommend that you read the previous books in the series before starting this one.
Although each book solves a case or two, the relationships in the series build from book to book.
In this one Solomon and Lexi are starting out married life.
All the usual gang are in this one. Lexi's mum is hilarious and so is Lily.
Maddox pops in from time to time.
No intimate scenes with anyone, it a clean romance, there is intimacy between Solomon and Lexi but it's off page.
The only small issue I had is Lexi and Solomon have just got married, around a month ago, and Lexi sees Maddox and in the first interaction there is a tiny bit of flirting and some suggestive comments said and in her head.
I was uncomfortable with this, it's only small but she's just got married, Maddox is her ex and I felt it was inappropriate.
I felt if it had been Solomon who was flirting or eyeing another woman the reader would have been on his case.
Later interactions are innocent and no sexual connotation to them at all.
The family meal was hilarious, really, really funny.

The latest Lexi Graves novel is fabulous!

In this novel, Lexi and Solomon are newly married. They take on a case involving fake designer handbags and a murder. As they attempt to solve the mystery, Lexi goes undercover, goes to a “handbag” party, experiences a car bombing, and concussion. Maddox makes an appearance as well and works with the Solomon Detective Agency and Montgomery Police Department to break up the counterfeiting ring. Lexi’s mom is also in rare form with hilarious input for Lexi and Solomon’s marriage. It’s a must read!!!

I’ve read this series from the beginning and Lexi has certainly evolved. The relationships between the characters make you envy big families and want one yourself.

I was given a copy for an honest review.

Another great Lexi mystery! This time she’s hired to go undercover to help figure out who’s behind the knockoff ring.

You get a full mystery or two in this book, plus family shenanigans that will surely make you giggle.. and although this book is part of a series, I personally believe you could read this without reading the ones before and still get as much enjoyment.

Another great Lexi read.
It starts with a gift of a designer handbag from her husband, only to be a fake, both disappointing for Lexi and her husband.
This leads to an investigation into counterfeit goods. Alongside this Lexi takes on a drop in case involving a house where strange things keep happening.
This book was a page turner, it had lots of laugh out loud moments, and of course Lexi's family are there, providing comfort and humour.
I really love the Lexi Graves books. Well written, gramatically correct and clever too.

Chafer once again delivers the Lexi Graves charm with cases almost as crazy (not possible) as dinner with the family. What could possibly go wrong with an ex-boyfriend and new husband at the table, and a mom who has a new hobby? Chafer had me laughing out loud at Lexi, Lily and Momma Graves' antics. Yet another quick, fun read!

I loved In the Line of Ire, Lexi Graves #13, as I have loved every book that that Camilla Chafer has written. I love that Lexi is maturing realistically, but I also enjoy when she still gets into hilarious messes that balance the serious situations she often faces in her work. Her sparkle, wit, zaniness, and her very special family all contribute the draws that pulls me into her world every time.
It is seldom that Lexi’s expertise outshines Solomon’s, but when it comes to accessories, she is the queen. A post honeymoon gift sends Lexi to the mall, but it sure isn’t for fun. Someone sold her amazing new husband and not so new boss a knockoff designer handbag, and Serena buys a purse to celebrate a success only to discover it has been switched for a fake, too. The mall manager hires the Solomon Detective agency to get to the bottom of the problem before words spreads. When they look for cheap bags that have been switch for the expensive originals, they find that it is not only handbags that have been knocked off.
The FBI is drawn into the case and our old, and really hot, friend Maddox ends up working with Lexi. I had to laugh at his behind the scenes flirting that left her totally flummoxed, which was of course, his intention. On a more serious note, the newly-wed detective is still having trouble dealing with the trauma from the shooting, but in true Lexi fashion, she tries to play it off and refuses to give in. Book thirteen is sure not bad luck for author Camilla Chafer, this novel is as good as any in the series.
I received an ARC of the novel from the author and my ebook purchase landed on my ereader last night!

I am a sucker for a good series that has a big extended family, lots of drama and the addition of a Private Investigative firm. That is the wonder of the Lexi Graves Mysteries series. "In the Line of Ire" is the 13th book in the series and you would think that it would be getting old. Nope! This series stills makes me contemplate who the bad guys are and have a laugh around every corner. This read starts off with a bang with Lily asks Lexi to dress in costume for a promotional for her bar. When Lexi is pushed down to the ground and rolls over, it is caught on videotape and posted on the internet. It is getting hundred of thousands of hits and she is mortified.

This time, Solomon decides to give Lexi a surprise, just because. They have been married for a little over a month and he buys her a designer handbag from the mall. Unfortunately, the handbag is a fake. Additionally, Lexi's sister bought a designer purse and it is a fake as well. The stores are denying that they sold counterfeit merchandise and accusing the victims of a switch and bait scheme. Now, Lexi is making it her personal mission to solve this case. Before she can get a chance to do so, Solomon is asked by the board for the mall to investigate the fake handbag accusations. As they attempt to ferret out information about the crime, they stumble upon a murdered sales clerk, only adding to the mystery.

In addition to the counterfeiting case, Lexi is approached by a divorced mother of two who feels as though someone has been entering her house and moving things around. Lexi is skeptical but when she sees evidence of this allegation for herself, she decides to get involved. Is it the landlord, the woman's boss, one of the neighbors or some other creepster. One thing for sure, much fun will be had by those who decide to read this installment to find the outcome.

The Lexi Graves Mysteries has become one of my favorite series. Even after 13 books, I continue to be intrigue. I can't wait for the next installment in this series. While I wait, I think I will have to investigate Camilla Chafer's Calendar series. She is such a good writer, I can't believe that Calendar series won't be just as good.

I’ve been reading this series for close to six years now. This one came out last year but I got a bit behind, so I only picked it up recently, once I remembered that it was already published. I half thought there’d probably be another one by now but it seems that #14 won’t be out until next year.

Lexi and Solomon have returned from their honeymoon (that having occurred between the last book and this one) and now it’s back to work. When Solomon gifts Lexi with what he thinks is an expensive bag which turns out to be fake, it plays into a case that Solomon has been approached about. The local mall has had several instances where people have claimed to have purchased genuine designer bags only to be given knock offs instead. At first the mall powers that be suspect the complainants are the one running the scam but Solomon’s gift to Lexi makes it obvious that is not the case. In order to investigate, they go undercover with Lexi working as a retail assistant at a big department store within the mall, in the accessories department. And Delgado will be working as a security officer so that he would be close by and able to reach Lexi quickly, should she require assistance. It would also give him a chance to see if anyone from that department might be in on helping get stock in and out in an unusual manner. Of course, on her first day at her new “job”, Lexi runs into Maddox, because the FBI are also running an undercover operation investigating the same thing, but aiming for the person at the top of the scheme. As well as that, Lexi also picks up another case from a single mother who feels that someone is frequently invading her house when she’s not home. She keeps finding things moved, sometimes the kettle is on the stove, once there was even a cup of coffee made perfectly to her preferences, waiting for her. As of yet things don’t seem sinister but the woman is understandably disturbed. Lexi vows to find out who is invading her personal space and why.

I don’t have a problem with Maddox but I also no longer see the point of him turning up in every book and running some sort of undercover FBI gig alongside pretty much anything that Solomon and Lexi might also be investigating. Also the first interaction between Maddox and Lexi made me feel a bit uncomfortable, considering she’s married now. Maddox is her ex and it felt a bit weird, her thoughts on him. It makes me wonder how she’d cope if an ex of Solomon’s turned up and he had the same relationship with her that Lexi has with Maddox. Solomon never gives Lexi, or even the reader, cause to believe that he’s ever anything but 100% devoted to her but every time Maddox turns up, it never seems like the same from Lexi. It’s not that I think anything will happen between them as such – they are well over and Lexi is married to Solomon now, it’s more the suggestion of the author of keeping Maddox in the picture, with a few flirty scenes and comments and it just seems really unnecessary. It kind of makes me dislike Maddox and just want him to go away whenever he turns up in the story – although there is a funny scene later in the book where Maddox and his FBI partner are invited to dinner at Lexi’s parent’s place and experience the utter chaos that is Lexi’s mother.

For me, this was not the most interesting instalment in the series – I was meh on the case surrounding the handbags, although it does give Lexi an opportunity to be the expert here as it seems there’s nothing she doesn’t know about designer bags and she can spot a fake at a hundred paces. This is definitely more her forte and it’s interesting to see her tackling a subject where she’s the expert and knows more than the others on the team. I was more interested in the other case she picked up, regarding the young single mother and whoever was infiltrating her house – and why. I actually don’t mind the cases that give Lexi a chance to work alone, to sift through all the options and decide on the course of action herself. She does pull in Solomon to help her with something but for the most part, it’s all Lexi and it gives her a chance to display how she’s growing into the job that Solomon offered her all those books ago.

This was entertaining but not my favourite in the series.

Lexi, Solomon and everyone else is back and I have to say married life really suits Lexi and Solomon who I really should call John now...lol but I think he will always be Solomon.

I just have to say even though I LOVE Lexi and Solomon this series wouldn't be the same without Lily omg she cracks me up every time but then so does Lexi's family but its mostly Lily who makes me gigglesnort the most.

I really want to visit Mrs Graves community college, damn they do some fun classes...

okay to the case that gained Lexi's 'Ire' fake purses are popping up and Lexi is certainly the right person to go undercover to find the ring leader, she can spot a fake a mile away.

It was fun having Lexi, Solomon, and Maddox all working a case together again ahhh the good old days...lol and I love Maddox's new partner he fits the graves family perfectly he really is their type of crazy.

The witty banter was great, there were some seriously funny moments as always, the mystery was fantastic I really loved the side story with Natalie and I love Lexi gets these little side cases to work on her own, she really is good at her job.

In the Line of Ire was a vividly enchanting and somewhat hilarious mystery with all of my favorite characters having a great part.

love the Lexi series. The characters, the humor, and the mystery.

In this book we see Lexi dealing with the last (hopefully) of the issues that resulted from an incident a few books ago dealing with the lovely husband Solomon. She goes undercover in a beloved (haha) temp job dealing with fake bags (the horror) which Maddox and the FBI join in on while trying to find peace of mind for a mother and her two daughters. Lily enlists Lexi for help and Lexi's mom takes another class leading to hijinx with friends and family that keep you laughing while the mysteries keep you guessing.

I am never disappointed in this series and this latest is no acceptance. The author makes each book special and makes me wanting more of Lexi and Solomon. I'm always looking forward to the next book release. I always learn something new about each character in each book. I try to pace myself and not devour each book in one day. This author is one of my favorites. I always recommend her to my reader friends and they have all enjoyed this series. Thank you for writing such wonderful characters and putting them in such great stories.

Never a disappointment, I LOVE these books.

I love all of Camilla Chafer's books, but the Lexi Graves series are my favorite. You feel like you know all of Lexi's friends and relatives. They are always funny and interesting. This time Lexi has 3 mysteries to solve, a serious murder, a creepy stalker, and a cute video taken of her in an embarrassing situation. (Loved the solution to that one especially.) I can't wait for the next one!

This series is great and this is one more fun story to add to it! It begins with Solomon giving Lexi a gift that he was so excited to give her—a designer bag that she loved in the store. She immediately identified it as counterfeit and when her sister came in with the same situation, it threw them into a deeper investigation.

It was a great story! I laughed so hard I cried in many places, and it kept me guessing almost until the end! I can’t wait for the next installment!

I love the Lexi Graves series. They are light, funny cozy mysteries. Lexi and Solomon are back from her honeymoon, and Solomon gives Lexi a designer purse, which turns out to be a counterfeit. This sets in motion their Detective Agency investigating the counterfeit ring. All the usual cast of characters are back, Lily, Maddox, Lexi’s family, and the gang at the Agency. As usual, lots of laughs.

Fakes

Fake purses is an assault on fashion lovers everywhere. So I suspected one of the criminals. However, the killer totally surprised me. Lexi didn’t get shot in this book, nor did she technically get shot at. She was only in the vicinity of shots fired. She did have a hospital visit, that was entertaining. Did Lexi ever get her purse replaced or money back? Why you gotta leave me hanging like that?

Love a Lexi Graves book! In this one Lexi's ability to spot a fake handbag really comes in handy, as people are being sold counterfeit bags without their knowledge. When a sales clerk winds up dead, Lexi and Co. are on the case.

The characters are so much fun in this series, and I found myself bursting out laughing at parts. Another fun read!

It seems I waited a long time for this book to come out and it’s really worth it. Lexie and Solomon are just back from their honeymoon and are smacked between the eyes with two interesting cases. Lexie’s mother certainly kept me laughing so hard I had tears running down my face. Please keep this series coming!
