Black Clover

Chloe Evans is nothing but bad luck. Waking up with a bird’s nest of hair, taking a tumble down the stairs, and almost getting run over by a hoard of dogs. All her life she’s been a walking safety-hazard, sometimes sunny forecast changes to a downpour of water hose. She knows nothing good would happen when her best friend wants their spring break to be in Las Vegas. Meeting an intense and possessive man who overlooks her clumsiness, he says he wants her—despite the terrible luck that looms over her.

Damon Landon doesn’t play around when it comes to his business, his business is flourishing and is one of the biggest casinos in Las Vegas. He knows everything that happens on his territory; the little scamming games people play, the illicit activities around the gambling floor, and every action his employees make. He also knows that little girl with a neon green shirt doesn’t belong there. She’s too young and too pure, his heart calls for her.
One look and he’s obsessed with that scared innocence that tugs on his primitive instinct to devour that little girl. Damon is going to take that girl for himself, and he will catch her when fate throws another curveball at her.

This is the work from a sleep deprived person. Expect cheeseiness and unrealistic love. I have no regrets for this story with a possessive man being completely obssessed with a young girl with so much bad luck. Also, expect the Trinity Rule: insta-love, HEA, and no cheating. Happy reading everyone!

PLOT...18yo clumsy college-freshman virgin h can't believe that late-30s Vegas casino-owner H would want her instead of her more popular & flirty BFF, who she came to Vegas with during their college Spring Break. H wanted her at 1st sight from his hotel cameras and set out to be with her right away & whisked her to his private office. Within a few hours, H convinces her to smex him yet she doesn't think he'd want more from her. He shows her how much he does want her by the rapid way he got her to move in with him. Epilogue 6 months later with H&h engaged & now preggo from H's frequent intent to breed her.

My 3rd Crown book and quite different than her other 2 books. Writing style was quite different. It was more simplistic. It lacked Crown's distinctive dissonant descriptions of a character/location/etc. Maybe that's why I got bored at times and why things seemed predictable. The sex-scene descriptions were similar though. There were also quite of bit of grammatical errors (i.e. pronouns, tense conjugations) and typos that were not issues in the other 2. I'm not a grammar Nazi at all but there were too many simple-editing errors in this 1. Really distracted from my reading pace. Crown's preface for this book did say that she wrote this very quickly—in 1 sitting with no sleep. So, she may have published this without editing it, unlike the other books.

This H was much kinder & more considerate of h's feelings & well-being than the Hs of Cruel Lies and Daddy's Little Bait. It was such a switch from Crown's disturbing anti-Heroes of those 2 books. It made this H look sappy and predictable. He was missing that anti-Hero edge I expected from my previous Crown reads. I did like that he was sweet and considerate of h's feelings and welfare. Wished H was just slightly wicked to give him & my reading a bit more spice.

H was likable and sweet to h and was genuinely taken with her. Liked how he got things speeded up within 24-hours of knowing her to get her moved in with him, including her college classes. He insta-loved her and was obsessed with her, which went against his usual tough hard-working character. Unlike other Crown Hs, this H often mentioned his heart & his soft feelings for h n his POV. He also mentioned a couple times how he may threaten h for his obedience but he'd never hurt her and that he liked her sassiness & her occasional rebellion. Very different from Crown's other anti-Heroes who'd brook no disobedience from the h or else risk painful manhandling to make her cry in fear and pain. This obsessed H and the insta-romance & devirginizing with lots of sweet & hot words reminded me of Alexa Riley & Mink's books.

It's a light-hearted smutty & sweet romance with a predictable romance progression. Some humorous moments from h's clumsiness and POV. The secondary characters also had more page appearances than other Crown books. Average emo/S chem/detailed bareback S. Believable HEA.

Sexual History:
18yo virgin h had crushes on boys before but had never been naked with 1 or touched by 1. H is her 1st lover. H mentioned having had relationships before but nothing serious enough.

The saving graces of this book were Damon, Chloe in the beginning, and that 1st sex scene. Otherwise, Chloe got a little annoying after a certain point and I didn't care enough to truly finish the book. There's the need for some serious editing in this, but I'm sadly getting used to this author's mistakes. What I refuse to get used to, though, is referring to her vagina as her "slits", and yes, the extra "s" at the end is always there. Maybe it's just bad writing or the author is an alien, but I'm pretty fucking sure there's only one slit down there.

Anyway, this was ok as a one-time read, but since Chloe started getting on my nerves, I probably won't pick it up again. I also hated Chloe's best friend who was irritating to the point where I wanted to kick her in the stomach just to get her to shut up. The only thing I liked about her friend is that she had a sugar daddy and wasn't ashamed of it; I'd love to see more of that in the future.

Spring Break

Chloe is drug along by her friend to Las Vegas for Spring Break. She's dreading it cause she's underage but she relents and follows her friend. What she doesn't expect is the big growly alpha man who hurts her then drags her around. Her luck has always been bad but what's it doing for her now?

I really liked this one, although most of Celia's book heroes are always almost psychopaths this one was possessive but also sweet. This was a cute short book by the way. Chloe is clumsy little thing and during spring break her roommate and best friend Fawn convinces her to go to Vegas where she meets Damon, a rich handsome Casino owner whom is taken to her. Really good humour too.
