Respawn #3

18 and Up

Rate this book
Targets come in all kinds. Some fall prey to those holding a gun for the first time. Others cannot be defeated even by the most experienced shooters in the world, unless their luck comes to save the day. Cheater’s accuracy is unparalleled, and Lady Luck is on his side. He has all the marks of a champion, and champions never miss.
The true aim of his heart, though, is not one that can be hit with a single fortunate shot. No, she is far to the west, beyond several of the Continent’s most dangerous locations: the bleak boundaries dividing regions from one another. Solo veteran immunes are little more than clumsy chunks of meat in such places, never mind brash newcomers like Cheater.
But Cheater’s not going solo. He has an experienced friend. But loyalty is hard to verify, and you never know when a friend might disown you simply for failing to complete his task by its deadline.

Alert

I hate trying to write reviews because there are really only pass/fail results for me. Did I make it all the way through? Yes? 5 stars. No? There would be nothing here to read. In all fairness, if an author holds my attention from page one to the end, they’ve done their job. Anything less than 5 stars is petty criticism from someone incapable of even doing the job let alone doing a better one.

So in respect for the author and their work, I am going to start pasting this along with a generic review I found somewhere. “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”

Now, since I have to keep explaining myself to people who don't like my reviews, I guess some clarification is in order.

1. I am 100% against criticism for works of art. Art is subjective, meaning reviews are irrelevant. The observer's opinion is only relevant to the observer. It is my belief that regardless of what others might say, I have to experience the art for myself.

2. I read upwards of 20 books a month. The $10/month I spend on K U, feels like I am cheating the authors. But since I can't afford 20 books a month if I were to purchase them directly, all I can offer is a positive review. That leads us to the final point.

3. If I get to the end of a book, then it was worth my time. I give those books 5 stars because it helps the author get exposure. That is the only reason I write reviews at all.

I understand that people are people and they are going to do what they do regardless of my stance. I know the way that I review books upsets some people. I am sorry they feel that way but as many have said, they will just ignore my review going forward. In fact, if you made it this far through my review, you should definitely read the book and completely ignore all of the reviews here. You are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.

Cheers

Copy and Paste...

The concept is well done and has been used in other books. The reason I don’t give this book 5 stars is that in the beginning books his low intelligence modifier can be used to explain his poor choices...however by book 3 his inability to think or use his special cheat ability (he seems to forget he has it from the earlier book until 3/4 of the way through this one) that the books are starting to become filler. I suspect Book 4 will be 3 story elements to move the plot forward and 200 pages of filler repetitive combat...

18 and Up (Respawn, #3) by Arthur Stone:

18 and Up, the third installment in the Respawn series by Arthur Stone, continues the captivating saga of reincarnation and second chances introduced in the previous books. While the premise holds promise, the execution in this particular installment falls short, resulting in a narrative that struggles to fully engage and captivate.

Stone's writing style remains consistent, with clear prose and descriptive language that immerses readers in the world of 18 and Up.

In this book, readers follow the protagonist as they navigate yet another reincarnation, this time in a world where they must navigate the challenges of adulthood and the complexities of relationships. While the concept is intriguing, the plot feels formulaic and predictable, lacking the depth and originality of the earlier installments.

The world-building in this installment feels stagnant, with little expansion on the rules and mechanics of reincarnation or the larger setting in which the story takes place.

Moreover, the character development in 18 and Up feels lacking, with the protagonist failing to undergo significant growth or evolution throughout the narrative. The relationships between characters also feel underdeveloped, robbing the story of emotional depth and resonance.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ (3/5)

18 and Up (Respawn, #3) may appeal to fans of the series looking for closure, but ultimately falls short in delivering a compelling and cohesive narrative. While it may provide some entertainment for casual readers, it lacks the depth and originality to stand out in a crowded genre.

Good progression, if you like the russian style.

The levelling ramps up in this 3rd instalment of the STYX/Continent settings in litrpg form. Cheater cheats, the world is shitty, nobody believes in good guys - usually for a reason - and everyone insults you casually.

But that's russian litrpg for you. It makes for a very different reading than the run of the mill western litrpg. If you are good with that - and you should probably expect it if you've read the previous books - that's a good ride. The mysterious March starts showing up his nature (it's not stated, but it's obvious), cheater does his massive luck-accuracy shenanigans, and the way back to his would-be girlfriend is started.

Book three

Mistakes: First let me just say that I think the page count is wrong. 179 pages doesn’t take long to read. This took some time.
I found five mistakes throughout this book. Usually wrong words.

Plot: We have some new friends. Lots of travel. We have some plots and lots of trying to level up as our hero tries to make it back to the woman he claims to love for no reason that makes sense.

Characters: There are conversations that don’t make sense in the way that male characters talk about females. The Mc does it as well, so he hasn’t changed for the better from book one and is the most interesting to follow when he is by himself.

I've just finished the entire Respawn series, books 1-6 and I really enjoyed them. I listened to the audiobook while I was at work and found the entire idea of a character having multiple lives VERY interesting! Every time our character Rock/Rocky/Cheater died he would learn from his mistakes and always make his death come at a cost to his enemies. I really wish the book had continued into a 7th book, there are so many places this story could go however I understand why it didn't because this isn't the sort of story that could really end anywhere. Thanks very much Arthur Stone for writing something so interesting!(I'll copy and paste this review on all 6 books.)

Another great book but...

Cheater has leveled up more and is closer to his getting back to Kitty. I loved his hardships and Can’t wait to see what March has planned. I do wish he would get a better editor as there are ALOT of words misspelled or used wrong. It IS a great series and I look forward to the next book. I did like the short point of view of the ghoul. I would like to see more of the system. We all know something is funny going on.

Great read

I have been reading LITRPG now for about two years and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It’s completely different from other books and series but still has the crunchy element of stats which I enjoy. However respawns are limited and players don’t know who they are. At first i thought this might be a cheesy kind of element but the author makes it work beautifully and it really. Objects you to the characters plight. I highly recommend this book.

The plot is still good

Progression is good and main character is still believable, though his luck remains astounding. That’s the point, of course. His motivation remains old school, but we’ll let that go.
Read the first two books before this one. The world is confusing, but fascinating.

Excellent

This world is awesome. I'm a little confused about the STYX series and this one based in the same world with different mechanics but it's an awesome series in a really cool setting and after reading what there is of both, all I can say is I WANT MORE.

Exciting!

The pace keeps on revving up with lots of action with Cheater dealing with over powered infected with lousy weapons that belong in a museum.
