War has arrived on the tattered shores of the United States, both from within and from without. At the center of it all lies the Lee Corporation, which has begun work on deploying its most frightening tool yet since the Long Night began....
The Long Night takes a frightening real-world situation and asks a simple question: "what if?" In a world that is increasingly connected, corporations have more information about us than ever before. A fictional extension on what has actually started happening in our society, the Lee Corporation's Bonesware health monitoring implants were supposed to keep us healthy and safe - until they didn't. Now, with over ninety percent of the civilized world dead over the course of a night, the few who remain must try to survive.
The Long Night is a collaborative work between Kevin Partner and Mike Kraus. A unique take on the apocalypse and on the post-apocalyptic genre, The Long Night will be a 6-part series of full-length novels released once per month.
I write post apocalyptic science fiction both on my own account and with Mike Kraus, as well as space opera and fantasy. And one or two other bits and bobs.
Based in the south of England, I've been writing since my teens, alternating between funny and serious. In the mid 1990s, I became a regular columnist for PC Pro magazine and have written a number of business and craft books over the years.
Fiction is my first love, however - I hope you enjoy my voyages into an uncertain future.
Good but not great. I like it but so much has become so ridiculously unlikely that I can't help but eyeroll. A country as big as ours and main characters keep running into each other? No. Not likely. Annoying. Probably won't continue.

The previous book in the series felt like it was marking time, but this had substantially more plot development, though was woefully very short. The episode-length books are hard to review and I keep thinking I should just wait for a series to end and then read the whole thing which will end up being a normal length book. This did advance the story reasonably well and set up the next confrontation.
Still not a fan of this format. 158 +/- pages is more like a couple chapters than a book and I hate the wait for a new segment. That being said, this is a good addition to the story. The premise is like a bunch of SHTF plots rolled up into one. It makes for interesting reading.
I am loving the English/American collaboration in this series, and hope to read more jointly written books by them in the future! I speed read, but with a twist and turn on almost every page, have had to slow down to take in the wealth of plots firing off on all cylinders, massively satisfying! On to book 5!
Not many books end on a high quite like this one. This is an intense and gripping series, with enough victories and losses to make your head spin and your heart drop. Solly continues his mission to bring down the Lee Corporation and save what is left of humanity, while Bella finds herself in a totally unforeseeable situation in her own quest to bring her family back together.
Somehow I've become hooked on the story and the characters. Hate losing some of the characters but it intensifies the reality. Hope not too many more will die, but I won't know until I finish the series.
This series keeps getting better, Solly and his crew make it to Washington DC and meet the new President, Bella takes on being the mayor of her adopted town and the Lee Company decides to employ another form of deadly technology. What comes next should be very interesting.
Haven't reviewed any of the others, I just fly through them. However, just needed to make the comment that I love all the nerd references. My little nerd heart squees with joy over it.
Well written and will have you thinking whether this could really happen. As always, a large Corporation is involved. Will the truth be found out in time. Definitely intriguing, gripping with outstanding characters.
