The novel unfurls some chapters from the life of the girl named ‘Madhumitha’- the protagonist. It unveils how a gullible, naïve, conservative teenager from Tirunelveli in south Tamil Nadu turns into a responsible, modern and strong woman after migrating to Chennai. At her teens, Madhu develops deep love towards Sridhar but being aware of some serious consequences, she didn’t propose. Moreover, it was too early to decide about her life partner. Suddenly Sridhar disappears from her life. It takes years for her to forget him and concentrate on her studies and career. Through her sheer hard work, she lands into an I.T firm, where she finds the love of her life. Being a pious Hindu, she falls in love with a Christian Malayali guy John Titus, who is younger to her. Her love is resisted by her brother and mom citing religious and age issues. Once again Sridhar enters into her life. She is juxtaposed between Sridhar and John. Her family suggests her to marry Sridhar, but she is very strong in her point. Her sister in law is very eager in marrying her to her cousin. Her family does all possible ways to cajole her. She is almost in an ambiguous state. Even she tries all the possible ways to convince her family. Let’s turn the pages and read on to know whether she manages to marry John against her family wishes? How will Sridhar react to her rejection? Will her family give up against her decision to marry John?
Wonderful story! Don't get decepted by the cover/title and think it's a love story - it's not. This book is about two girls, Madhumitha and Deepika's life journey from a place called Tirunelveli to the USA. The story takes you through their school life, early teenage crushes, love, stalking and their beautiful friendship. I admired how author has portrayed internal thoughts of characters, viz. Deepika as to how they were subjected to colourism and didn't like it. How people around encourage them and also how a girl has to endure so much on the very thought of inter-caste marriage, specially in India. What's more admirable is the depiction of the protagonist being a victim to Acid Attack, one of the worst social crime! And how she had to take pains to get her life back on track and ventured into social work. Overall, this book is something a anyone can easily understand, relate to and feel. We need to know when a girl doesn't agree or say NO - it has to end there. That no one gets a right to ruin her life against a rejection, one cannot stalk and throw acid to take revenge. But despite all odds she can fight. I found this story to be a light social drama rather than a romantic story, which reflects everything we see around or some unfortunately go through. The narration is lucid and story is honest. You can definitely read it.
The book has been written in a simple manner. Story is just like other normal love stories that start with attraction, building up the bond and then either a happy ending or a heart break. However the flow of the story is pretty good and readers who love reading teen love stories should go for this book. Love is a feeling that can show you the bliss in life and also lead you down the staircase of hell.
Considering the title "Between the hearts," one might assume it to be a typical love tale, but it's more than just romance fiction.
✨ The protagonist of this story, Madhumita, aka Madhu, remembers her old good days at the beginning of the book. Her school days were incomplete without her friend Deepika. Reading about their old school days gave me many nostalgic moments, and I adored it. The friendship bond between Madhu and Deepika is unimaginable and I'm seriously envious of their bond.
✨ The teenage one-sided love that Madhu develops over Sridhar was really pure. The author has succeeded in helping readers comprehend the distinction between her love for Sridhar in her teenage and her love for John in her matured phase.
✨ The author has made a bold attempt to speak about the acceptance of inter-caste and inter-religion marriages in Tamil Nadu, where the story plot is set up. He has also given us a vision of the inferiority complex of a dark-skinned girl through Deepika. Maybe now we are marching towards a progressive society, but back in the early 2000's the scene was entirely different. I really liked the twist that suddenly appears in the climax of the novel, where the author has spoken about a modern-day crime, which is highly commendable.
✨ In their school days, Madhu and Deepika were portrayed to be always fantasizing and appreciating the charms of the boys in their near vicinity. I know it's just a girl's talk, and I respect the author for bringing this out. But it started to annoy at a point when it got repeated almost upto one third of the book.
✨ The love between Madhu and John Titus could have been more elaborate since it felt like it was rushed. The author could have focused more on the middle part of the story since it was a little shallow.
✨ To conclude, I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to read how a small town teen girl evolves into a modern, progressive, mature woman that highlights her love, friendship, and family drama written in a very easy language.
Between The Heart is a story that detailed a love adventure amidst some high school students. One was curious and tensed about her skin colour and how people often stigmatized and reproach her due to her colour, and the odd perception that most black Indian ladies somehow find it difficult to break through in marriage, which in my intuition, I think it's an overstatement. The plot twist and characterization of this book are fine, and it made for an interesting read as the story unfolds dynamically. This book has a setting most specific to the Indian scene, high school education, and the idea of the story is amazing. The only issue that I have with this book is its tons of grammatical errors, wrong sentence placement, rule of concord violation, and several other kinds of grammatical errors. I'll be sincere, the story within this book is good but the way it's written made me have difficulty while reading it. But, I'm sure that this book will be perfect if a professional editor would work on it. Between The Hearts is a nice story that would be perfect if it is well fixed.
My take- ▶️ The book left deep impact on me. ▶️ The plot is unique and amazing. ▶️ Language is beautiful. ▶️ Description is so perfect that make us felt like watching a movie. ▶️ Emotions are described so perfectly that I literally cried at some incidents. ▶️ Page turning. I couldn’t put it down once I started. I finished this in a single day! ▶️ It motivates us to move further in life and overcome all the hardships. ▶️ It teach us how to be grateful to all the things that we have rather than complaining. ▶️ Overall its perfect. Must Must read !!
One of the best books that I have read this year. An amazing plot with a super-amazing characterization that blows one’s mind every time you expect things to go in a certain way. The unpredictability of the story is what completely baffled me. I loved the way the author has tried to show the emotions of the protagonists in their worst situation. Talking about the writing style, it’s quite simple and plain. I found it quite impressive to communicate the suspense, thrill and romance in such simple words. Overall, a wonderful read.
Between The Hearts title suggests about the love but it's different from a normal love story.
The novel apprise the story of a girl named 'Madhumita' aka Madhu and her bestie 'Deepika'. They were the best example of true friendship as they share each and evey thing about their lives. They belong to a small town named Tirunelveli in South Tamil Nadu and belong to a very conservative family and also had orthodox thoughts. So they can't talk openly in front of the family members.
Madhu was a simple, elegant with fair complexion whereas Deepika was not so fair in colour. Everyone in the school stares at Madhu due to her beauty. Even boys stalks her at the roadside.
At her teens Madhu fell in deep love with her elder brother's friend Sridhar. But when he went to Chennai due to his job and to earn for his livelihood. She also decided to go to Chennai for higher studies after tenth. She went to Chennai and opt Engineering.
Madhu never met Sri in these four years. She thought that one or the other day Sri would also fall in love with her . But her dreams got shattered when she saw Sri with a girl. After that incident she moved on, suddenly Sri disappeared from her life.
After completing four years in college. She got a job in the I.T. sector where she found the love of her life. Being a pious hindu, she falls in love with a Christian Malyali guy 'John Titus'. Her family resists for inter-caste marriage.
For the sake of the family she decided to break up with John. After some days she got a marriage proposal from Sridhar. She wasn't interested to get married to Sridhar.
On the very next day she went to the temple with her mother. There she went through one of the most dangerous social crime i.e. acid attack.
What was the reason behind the acid attack? Was it related to her past? Who had done this to such an innocent girl? Was John behind all these? Was her whole life ruined after this attack ? Or Was it the beginning of her new life?
Read and try to find out all the Mysteries behind the incident.
The language was simple as well as easy to understand. I liked the writing style of author Pradeep Neelakandan.
Overall it was a perfect book for me.
Recommended for everyone who love to read fiction.
It’s strenuous to write a book, and it is disheartening to write a review of a book that didn’t enthral me. Anyway, the deed needs to be done.
Between The Hearts is a debut novel by Pradeep Neelakandan. It is a story that portrays the daily events of the protagonist Madhumita. The story begins with Madhu reminiscing about the old times. The story involves all the events that led her life to reach that moment. The author attempts to portray the life of a girl from a reserved family and her struggles of being beautiful and woke in this society and not letting the heart-wrenching events destroy her confidence.
The story could have been crafted well. Some scenes changed immediately, without any warning or preparation. Had these flashbacks been worked upon, they would have done well in grasping my attention. Like there should be a smooth transition. When I encountered that sudden change in the beginning, I read the page thrice to see if I was at fault, and later in the story, this crossfading seemed to be forced to appear like a smooth transition. The friendship of Madhumita and Deepika involved discussions about boys; he portrayed that their life revolved around boys since they developed a sense of infatuation or relationship. There may be a few girls that may have such conversations, but trying to generalize over a large population is something indigestible. The author could have worked on being more aware of that for this part of the plot.
No doubt in that the concept from a holistic view seems worth reading, but the overall formulation- the flashbacks, the need to visit old memories, the twist that seemed to be forced, the need for those conversations revolving around the guys, the progress of the story etc. needed to be worked upon. The author may try his hand at short stories; his writing style may be used for that(maybe).
It’s been a long time since I read a book from an Indian author. So I came across this book recently “Between The Hearts” starting with the title of the book it is a relevant and after reading the story I really feel it is a well suited one. The cover of the book being a very simple and creative one. Talking about the story it is a very complicated story but surely an interesting one. So, it goes like the protagonist Madhumitha as a teenager who is from Tirunelveli but as she moves to Chennai she becomes very responsible, strong and modern. As she is in a teen age, she develops a premature love for a guy named Sridhar but she keeps it to herself and it takes sometime for her to overcome It but she is successful now. The she is into a job and she finds a love in a person who is of totally different caste and also younger than her. That’s not it at this very time when her family is against all this Sridhar breaks in the scene. The story is a bit complicated and I feel that you it is so happening that if by chance you miss something while reading, I am sure the story would confuse you. Although I would appreciate the way characterization and situations were written it was something realistic. I was a little bored in the middle of the story I feel the author could have made a story length a bit les in the middle. Apart from that I loved the story especially the ending. I am sure you’ll get it when you read the story. It was a normal length read also the words and the language used in the book were very basic and understandable. I am sure you’ll love the story so what are you waiting for go grab you copy fast.
Book Name- Between The Hearts Author- Pradeep Neelkandan Review- Between the hearts is a sweet and simple story of a teen girl who falls in love. The story being very simple is the real catch of the book as it is easy to understand and has a good flow. The emotions of the characters are expressed really well. The book unveils friendship of two school going girls Madhu and Deepika. Reading about their innocent school days and their different interests in subjects was fun. The writer has beautifully narrated the teen love of character Madhu and the pure feelings and emotions which she goes through. Teen love is the purest form of love one can read and the writer has maintained the audacity of it by highlighting the sweet little moments of emotions of it. It is quite interesting to read the love story of the character from her very first love and read her growing into a women as the pages flip and a new person coming into her life, it feels like watching a movie and visualize the character grow and see the personality development from a teen to and adult. One can experience what the character feels and goes through since the narration is so simple and fluid. The story goes on very smoothly with the blend of school days, friendship, first love and maturity. I really liked how the writer has balanced the proportion of teen love and adulthood in his writings while giving enough of chapters to read for each phase mentioned. The title is a good pick. Ratings- Title- 4/5 Cover- 4/5 Narration- 4/5 Overall- 4/5
🍷Between The Hearts🍷 The novel unfurls some chapters from the life of the girl named ‘Madhumitha’- the protagonist. It unveils how a gullible, naïve, conservative teenager from Tirunelveli in south Tamil Nadu turns into a responsible, modern and strong woman after migrating to Chennai! . For me it was a book for growing up, it was a book of change and transformation. Some people/ readers just focused on it's romantic aspect but the story isn't all about that, it's about building one's character. The way the author transformed Madhu was so beautiful, at the end of the book she was a complete new person with a new perspective. The story shows up some amazing bonds, the teenage bond Madhu develops with Sridhar, the feelings one gets when being in love for the first time! I loved how they were shown and potrayed. They were put it much delicacy, they seen real. I loved her friendship with her best friend who is still in the village when she moves out of the village for big opportunities. . . When she again falls in love with John, Madhu isn't the same girl with low self-esteem, she is a different person totally. I am in love with characters and the scenes. I almost the vibes of it being a real story. The story didn't leave the track, it was so simple yet it taught me so much. I agree on a bit of editing. Overall I feel, it will be a best book for people who are curious and wants to learn more about life and living in a fictional way. Definitely recommended. .
⭐It's a tale of inspiration that motivates me. Basically, it's a tale that begins with attraction, builds the bond and ends with either heart break or happy ending. Essentially, it's a fictional romanceAdolescent love is the sweetest love that is perfectly conveyed by the poet. Apparently, I was watching a movie and I could picture it perfectly. With school days, fellowship, first love and then creation, the storey began. It tells the storey of Madhu and Deepika, two young ladies. Those who like to read love shops for teenagers should go to this book. Madhu is a small town in Tamil Nadu, but she then moved to Chennai. She grows up there and falls in love with Shridhar, but soon he vanishes, leaving her utterly shatteredAfter that, she began working in the IT industry. It was there that she fell in love with another man named John, who belonged to a different faith and was not embraced by his relatives. There's a lot of up and down in the plot in this way, which will basically get you stuck until the end.And if I thought about the way it was portrayed by the author, it was so beautiful that I actually cried out. A certain venue. The best part is that the book steers to an simple English interpretation away from heavy words.I would have enjoyed a longer analysis of the experience of the author ...You will be shocked by the characters and results alike, without spoiling the details, you will find your guess incorrect, and delightfully so.Top marks and strongly recommend it to the team behind this as an improvement to your tabletop arsenal.
Set in society where Patriachy and misogyny are normalised enough it to be a known fact that male ego is before love and peace. This is the story of Madhumita, a teenager from Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu and her journey from naive, conservative teenager to the strong, independent, working women. From chasing a crush in her brother's best friend Sridhar to discovering the true meaning of love in Malayali Christian boy, John.
The title and cover are little ambiguous to the story. The story is much more than the mere romance. 'Between the heart' checks all the boxes- there's racism, caste difference, acid attack victim, stalker, women empowerment and of course romance. This story that starts out easy to digest because very believable. It just demogorgons into very intense melodrama which also kinds of work well until it doesn't. After some twist book turns into a revenge saga but goes back to being a live story till the last chapter. Thorough this book author gives us an insider's view of practice if patriachy that continues to thrive through it is illegal. Outdated and irrational as they may be but the words reflects the reality that confront girls across the country. The book however leans too much on clichés. Narration needed tonality to match the intensity of topic. The lousy narrative style doesn't match the intensity of topic but despite these minor hiccups, this is an invitation that you must not miss.
⭐Introducing the characters (Madhumita, Sridhar, John, and Deepika) is remarkable and noteworthy. Madhumita experiences passionate emotions for the companion of her sibling when she is in eight schools, but she could not pass it on to him. Sridar shifted to Chennai as time passed quickly Madhumita concentrates hard and gets comfortable with Chennai, seeking to get close to being Sridar, not being an incredible understudy in mathematics and battling the ordinary society. It's in Chennai where she is met by John, who loves her
⭐The relationship that Madhumita and Deepika shared was so nice and they were best friends, and it is commendable how the author illustrated these characters.
⭐The book is based on childhood, carefree school days, love, crushing, chatting with teens, stalking, work, caste , religion, relationship with siblings, and much more.
⭐The author has beautifully demonstrated the pain faced by the victims of acid attacks and the desire to return to normal life.
⭐There are a lot of ups and downs in the plot. It will initially make you laugh and remind you of your good old days, but there are some problems addressed as it goes forward that are still present in our culture and that will make you angry as well as emotional.
⭐Overall, it was a good read, and as you would certainly enjoy it, I will highly recommend this book to anyone out there.
💫 This book has been amazingly penned down by Pradeep Neelakandan . I could never see any new writer portraying everything in such a perfect manner. He has all the topics in his debut be it, romance, love, acid attack victims, their pain, their obstacles, happy school days, crush, work, relationships, hardwork, everything. The book started in a very beautiful way and took turns in the middle which were worth the read. Must say, the title is very apt.

My Opinion 🗒✨
❣️The Story is full of twists and turns. It's a perfect blend of emotions. The language is lucid and easily understandable. I feel the cover could be more attractive, anyways, it's simple yet cute. The title justifies the storyline completely.
❣️I loved the bond that Madhumitha and her best friend Deepika shared. The author has described all the scenarios pretty well. His writing style is splendid. I loved the book as a whole, it kept me hooked throughout.
The story is about a simple and beautiful girl Madhumitha, her journey of transformation from a small-town girl to an acid-attack survivor. A book filled with a rollercoaster ride of the strong friendship between Deepika and Madhu, carefree school days, sibling relationships, work culture, love, and stalking. Madhu was head over heels for Sridhar, her childhood love but destiny planned something better than the best for her through, John Titus. Will she marry Sridhar? Will their small town orthodox society accept their Inter-caste marriage? Can a victim turn a survivor? Well! Read the story to know more. Review: 💕The story highlights the significance of friendship. 💕The story emphasizes the barricades of our Modern society towards inter-caste marriage and their blind beliefs. 💕The struggles of Madhu, the protagonist, and her comeback with a determination to help other victims are wonderfully portrayed. 💕The flow of the story is well-paced until the sudden twist of the attack, an unpredictable one. 💕💕The author has brilliantly unraveled it at the end. 💕The language is simple with few Tamil slang, if you’re from down south you will enjoy reading. 💕I found a few words repetitive otherwise it was a pleasant read. I’d recommend this book if you’re looking for a quick and light story to read.
Love and friendship, two main aspect of life without whom life will always be tasteless. Where friendship is peace love is what makes life peaceful.
Between the heart is one such warming story that is woven with emotions. The story revolves around two main characters Madhu and Deepika's life who happens to be the best childhood buddies.
When Madhu for the first time falls in love with Shridhar she felt everything changing around her for good. But that happiness didn't last long. But there she falls in love with John. It was all chaos. Little did she know the defined journey wasn't that easy for Madhu. Will she find her love? You need to read the book to know.
A very touching story woven with realistic characters and emotions. The bond of friendship is defined perfectly. At a point the sorrow for Madhu tugged to the heart. And at the end book teaches not to lost yourself in the journey of finding the mate. A short and sweet read put down beautifully.
Plot: The book revolves around Madhu and Deepika who are best friends since childhood, passed from the same school, stood by each other’s side no matter what. The book tells about the old society mentality of not accepting the love of their children. Madhu fell in love with Sridhar, which didn’t last long. Later, she shifted to Chennai for her higher studies and she started sharing her bond with John Titus, who was from a different caste and then life took a turn. Will society accept their love ? What was the turn ?

This is the sort of book you can complete in one go. The manner in which book is written is excellent to such an extent that couldn't put it down once began. • • I like the way, it spurs us to move further throughout everyday life and beat every one of the hardships. Apart from this, it instructs us to grateful for what we have. • • Coming to the plot of book-it was amazing . The story is about young lady name Madhumitha from Tamil Nadu, how she transforms into mindful, current and resilient ladies in the wake of relocating to chennai. In the mean time, Madhu became hopelessly enamored with a person named 'Sridhar' and how he vanishes from her life. It took a very long time for her to move on. Presently, she fell for another person named John titus from another religion. Also, her family is against her. Here comes the suspence.. will she have the option to wed him againt all odds? • • Cons- I had a hard time reading it due to small text size. • • Get your copy and read to know more.
Lead characters Madhu and Deepika are bestest friends since childhood. Passed schooling together, and did all kinds of mischievous activities together. They come a long way in life, but never left each other's side in thicks and thins. Madhu develops love interest in Sridhar, who is the best friend of her brother, been conservative in nature Madhu's family rejects it. Madhu shifts to city and her life takes a whole new turn, she is changed. Sridhar is gone, Deepika is in village still pursuing her degree. Story will make you laugh at some point seeing Madhu's and Deepika's friendship, but in last chapters will make you anger and thing of some issues which are still prevailing in society. Overall , it was an eye opener story! Full of emotions, Journey of friends and true love , worth reading !!
The book is divided into 46 short episodes. The flow and the way these episodes are connected is very amazing. This is a very inspiring and superb story of the lead character Madhu. She belongs to a small Town of Tamil Nadu but after she shifted to Chennai, their was a sudden growth on Madhu. She grows up with lots of maturity and much responsibility. Then she falls for Shridhar but the love of her life suddenly disappeared from his life leaving her totally broken and alone. To come out of this trauma it took a lot of time. After that she started working in an I.T. company where she falls in love with John who belongs to a different religion and this relationship was not accepted by here family. After thar again she met Shridhar and now stuck between John and Shridhar. There is a lot of up and downs in the story which help the reader to stick to the book till last page. The book is a page turner. The language is easy and lucid. The name of the book is perfect and compliments the story. The cover page is eye catching. Recommendations yes
⭐It is exceptional and noteworthy to introduce the characters (Madhumita, Sridhar, John, and Deepika). When she is in eight class, Madhumita experiences passionate feelings for her sibling's companion, but she could not pass it on to him. As time passes quickly, Sridar has moved to Chennai. Not being an incredible understudy in mathematics and fighting the usual society, Madhumita concentrates hard and gets comfortable with Chennai, trying to get close to being Sridar. It's in Chennai where John, who loves her, meets her.
⭐The author covered the sensitive problems of victims of stalking and acid attacks. He painted the suffering the victims go through wonderfully and the resilience that is similar to the phoenix bird that emerges stronger only to fly higher from all the false traditions and blinded practises of the broad-minded narrow society.
⭐In the end, the twist was very good, I have Not Expected It. The style of writing is lucid. The storytelling is smooth. This is a book I would highly recommend.
Title: Between The Hearts Author: Pradeep Neelkandan Pages: 172 Format: Kindle Price: Rs. 113/-
This is the first book of the author. The presentation of the characters (Madhumita, Sridhar, john, and Deepika) is great and impressive. Madhumita falls in love with her brother's friend when she is in eight class but couldn't convey it to him, as time passes john enters into her life. But he is from another religion, and as usual, her parents won't accept that. and here comes the point that she did?
I should say great for Madhu and Deepika bond and presentation of them both is really awesome.
the language was cool and easy to understand not any hard words to get them. The cover did not exactly suit the story but looks ok. Not a lengthy book, I did complete in a single go. I recommend to all love bookies
📌 To put it in a single line, It is a story of a carefree teenage girl who battles between Love, life and soceity. 📌 The story is not anew but it is special to my heart since it is set up in my hometown ( yayy) I was stunned since I haven't come across books based upon here. While reading, it took me back the memory lane on the mentioning of VOC ground, thamirabarani river which are a few things every tirunelvelian could relate and feel bonded to. 📌 For a debut book, the language and writing is fair. Initially, the pace is slow which might be boring for some because the author has filled pages with details to provide us a close to real time experience. 📌 Apart from the hometown bonding, it's exceptional for the nailing social message at the end ( which could have been more in depth, btw). 📌 Overall - A good read, recommending to beginners and of course Tirunelveli makkals! 📌

That acid attack incident brought tears in my eyes and gave me strength. 🌷 Character like Madhumita and Deepika is amazing and will make you laugh at some points but some times it will create chaos in your mind. Overall worth read with full of emotions. Happy reading ❤️

This book was recommended to me by one of my close friends who regularly read books and review it. I wasn’t expecting much from this book except that it becomes a good companion on my travel and to be true my friend was right when he said that I will complete this book in one sitting. This book was simply amazing. I think it was a better companion that some of my friends who kept on chattering god know what. Anyways, a good piece. A complete entertainment that will hook you till the very end.
Woah! This book brings up very strong topics through this love triangle. It brings up women empowerment, financial independence of a woman, marriage into the same caste, teenage crush, and ofcourse decision making even though you are independent and educated. This story tells us that when we make a decision, we just can't tell whether this decision will bring good results or bad ones. Although every decision matters, we can't predict what is going to happen in the future.
